Chicken Salad Sandwich on Baguette April 20, 2024
Joyce Y.

Stopped by the Potomac Grocer while in the area for an appointment today. Surprisingly of all the food spots in the area, this was one of the highest Yelp ratings. Looking at the reviews, I saw that the place offered take-home meals as well as a deli. Apparently people loved the chipotle chicken salad sandwich, so I decided that was going to be the thing to try. I wasn't super blown away, I found the chicken to be a bit dry and bland. But I will say man did they PACK that sandwich with chicken! I mean they did not skimp! I also saw one review that mentioned getting it on a baguette so I did, although personally I found the bread to be a bit hard. BTW the chipotle is SPICY! But I do have a low spice tolerance so take that with a grain of salt. They had another option for the chicken salad which was the tarragon, as well as lots of other deli sandwiches. I was curious to try the soup of the day, potato leek soup, but decided not to get it. They had a variety of packaged soups and salads along the refrigerator. It seemed like a pretty popular place on a Sunday afternoon, so while I didn't love the chicken salad sandwich personally, maybe they have some other yummy options.

Corn and crab chowder (does not come with bread on the side, must purchase separately)

New to potomac! Thank goodness there is a new place to eat around here! This place has definitely turned into my favorite place to eat in town, great for lunch. ALL the sandwiches are good with fresh soft bread. Fresh ingredients for the sandwiches and salads. The salad are delicious, fresh quality veggies, with homemade dressings. What I like is that the salads are unique and different from salads anywhere else. The Greek steak salad is a must try. They have different soups of the day and so far I've tried the chicken noodle and the corn crab chowder, both are delicious and not too salty.

Yummy desserts!

Wow...if I could give this place over five stars I would. First time stopping by today, and it definitely won't be the last. I can see myself shopping here on a consistent basis :-) I ordered the chipotle chicken salad on a baguette and it was delicious! It was well-seasoned, you can clearly taste the top-notch ingredients as everything is fresh and local. Excellent service! The folks working here are extremely friendly.

Amazing little grocery store with prepared food and sandwiches. Great alternative to local chain food stops.

This place offers great, fresh, pre-made foods. Highlights include the butternut squash soup, the quinoa salad and the crab cakes.

Well, Harris Teeter checks all of those boxes. I am usually there twice a week and the people who work there are the nicest. They help me, if I need anything. They stock a wide variety of products. I started buying baby bok choy here. And, they have loads of sauces whether you are looking for rice vinegar or sesame oil. They have a variety of gluten free baked products. I always buy their gluten free cupcakes, cookies, and pastas. My favorite day is Thursday, when they offer a prime rib dinner for $20 dollars. You get a large piece of prime rib with vegetables and potatoes. You do pay a little more for the great service and convenience, but, I think it is worth it. So, if you are looking for a grocery store, I recommend Harris Teeter in Park Potomac.

Since being acquired by Safeway/Albertsons, the "specialty", in a specialty store, has pretty much vanished. I still do believe that their bistro meals, ordered with care, can be a budget, friendly, yes, I do mean budget, friendly, alternative to fast food (herb, roasted turkey dinner with fingerling potatoes and green beans are $16 and can last for two meals) Their carrot cake, has always been exceptional and remains so The disappointing part is how Balducci's now stocks basically Safeway products and up charges considerably for them. (perfect example is their prepared coleslaw. ) Items like cucumber salad, herring nibs, and other items have disappeared in favor of commercially packaged items. I always found their fish to be fresh and flavorful, but now I have seen a decline in the quality of their fish. Recently , I went to get one of their wonderful cups of coffee and found that that Service no longer is available. I guess things change. However, I don't feel the change at Balducci's has been for the better

They have many foods, snacks, and drinks that you cannot find in Hmart and Lotte. I bought some Japanese snacks that I grew up eating, as well as a specific brand strawberry - green tea that I haven't found in any other local Asian grocery store yet. I also found more flavors to a specific sparkling drink brand that I like and haven't found in any other local Asian store yet. Interesting fact, some of the Japanese snacks that I grew up eating were from this Chinese grocery store that no longer exists in Chinatown, DC. They brought back memories and nostalgia. This shop is small but you can find so much around and in between the aisles and shelves. Our family enjoyed looking at the bowls, eating utensils, beauty products, and hello kitty stuff (my daughter specifically). Service was so friendly. They gave my two little kids each a piece of Japanese gummy candy. My kids were so happy.

That's a little high, considering they weren't super stuffed with filling, but it seems like that price is pretty standard for the area. She was very nice and smiley.

But this one is preferable to the one in North Bethesda because it seems to have more parking spaces and getting back onto Rockville Pike can take a while, especially on Saturdays. And unless you like parking in underground garages, you can give the downtown Rockville TJ's a pass (formerly Dawson's Market). Store is clean and well-stocked, and they always seem to have staff restocking the shelves. Cashiers are friendly and efficient - they'll call you over to one of their lanes if they're open (and the lanes are named after local roadways for convenience). Just be careful turning into the lot from Travilah and Route 28 - the first driveway is exit-only!!
