I've been a customer at Cabin John Giant for many years. Many employees come and go but there are a number of outstanding longtime employees. This speaks well of management. I want to acknowledge one of them - Andrew. Andrew efficiently oversees the produce department, specifically the fruit section. He expertly positions carts loaded with fresh fruit so that they don't interfere with customers' ability to navigate crowded aisles. That he takes pride in his work is evident from perfectly arranged fruit displays. I'm confident that the contents of the packages I select will not be past their prime and have not been disappointed. Andrew approaches his work with an energy and enthusiasm that is rare among service workers. Seeing Andrew brightens my day. read more

This review is for the floral dept: I found magenta carnations that were in great shape, and Jan (the florist) was kind enough to wrap them for me. This store is fantastic. Christine the General Manager has taken care of a number of problems. My mother sent me to get salmon and they were out. I asked for the organic at the same price and Christine told them to give it to me. There was another time I bought fish in a package that was too thin to cook well. Kimberly at the fish counter thanked me for: "giving her the opportunity to make it right." Kimberly gave me a far bigger and truly beautiful piece of salmon for free. Live in the neighborhood for years and have seen the quality and variety of their products decline here... we used to shop here very often, but now only come here for last minute grabs. Even then, the options are often times very limited. The staff are very friendly and helpful, which is mostly why I'm giving 3 stars. This is a medium size Giant store in the Cabin John Village plaza in Potomac MD. The store is very attractive inside & out. The parking lot is quite sufficient for all the businesses here. The store had a constant flow of customers while I was there on a late weekday afternoon. The produce and organic produce at this Giant store is plentiful and fresh! This has been a problem in January 2022 at some Giant stores. The dairy & meat items were also well stocked. The ice cream section was a little smaller than the bigger stores. They open early at 6 am. The displays are attractive & full and I had and saw good customer service. The experience was a positive one. This store has the usual services including Redbox, PNC bank, grocery delivery & pickup, gift cards, self checkout and more. I have but one complaint about Giant stores. So the solution center says it opens at 8am but I waited at the counter for 20 minutes while asking if anyone was going to work on me but no one showed up.its very annoying to get up early in the day trying to get help only to get none. Very unreliable. read more

A regular Giant that we go to only as a last case option - if we are near it and want to grab something quick. Let me rephrase that - if we want to grab something (strike the quick park). The quick part never works, even if we are buying just the one item - the checkout lanes take forever to process and a quick in and out never ends but being quick. And parking can be hard to find at this shopping center. read more

I think this is the Giant I shopped at, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyways, I came to get supplies for a mean vodka cranberry -- meaning lime of course. There was one big bag of limes, and one lonely lime sitting there. I chose the lonely one, but still, where could all of the limes have possibly gone? Perhaps our markets in Michigan are simply superior to those in Maryland. Perhaps. The fruit (I purchased a package of blackberries) was either molded or rotten. Yuck. I would go here in a bind . . . if I ever moved to Bethesda (2000NEVER) . . . but maybe a Whole Foods would be better. read more

Warm atmosphere with helpful staff. Can usually find everything you want. Everyone willing to help find items. Number of checkers usually appropriate, but they should staff the "Fast Lane" (less than 15 items) more frequently. Willing to obtain (order) items that are sold out or new. read more

Went here at 12:15pm Friday. They are NOT enforcing crowd control. Each square foot had a human body in it. Their poor employees. Do not go here. It was horrendous. Just hold people at the entrance until some come out. Other Giants are doing this. Why isn't Cabin John? read more

Good place to get basic staples for good prices. Nothing fancy, however. Store is looking a little worn because this strip mall is from the 60's, but space is clean and aisles are wide. Checkout is pretty slow because they don't have enough cashiers. read more

Compared to Giants in DC this place was heaven. I stopped in during the rain yesterday evening. It felt so open and organized and clean. The pastries and bread appeared fresh and not picked through. I always want to love the store...it's in Cabin John...so you think it's going to be low key. It's a small space, parking is a serious problem, especially now while half of the front lot is blocked off during construction. The CVS is very busy adjacent to it, however to clerks at the CVS are super nice....but I digress...back to the Giant...so when you are dealing with a small difficult space...what should an astute manager do....make sure the customer service is second to none! Sadly not the case here. So many frustrating things, they seem to stock shelves during the busiest times, middle of the day on weekends, you can't navigate the lanes, especially in produce. The clerks are...exhausting...particularly an older woman who always works the express lane next to the self check out....rude, rude, rude, clearly does not like her job. While we are talking about self check out , they routinely leave it without a clerk, so imagine how quickly that becomes an issue. We all want to bring our own bags, the weight thing goes off, the paper runs out in the receipt printer, people need help....you have to staff it and they don't all the time. I see a lot of older folks shopping in this center, so they move slow, don't drive well or Park well, and often need help. That combination spells disaster for this mismanaged grocery store. One bright spot is the special needs folks they use to collect shopping carts, super fun and talkative, always say good morning, and seem to work very hard! I don't understand Giant's view towards this store location. It is in a prime location and you would think competition from a much nicer Harris Teeter up the street would cause it to renovate/update this store. The store footprint is not attractive. Dark and poorly lit interiors. Dirty, old flooring. Chilled sections make you wonder if the health department has visited recently to confirm that the chillers are keeping food at the correct temperatures. Over by the deli, the chilled sections are half lit and seem to be barely functioning. I have never seen anyone actually remove a food item from these areas, which makes you also wonder about freshness, turnover and food waste. I hope Giant is planning on doing a renovation with the update of the rest of the center. CVS looks like a luxury retail space compared to Giant. read more

I love coming to this Giant because everyone is really friendly here. It's pretty much your standard Giant, before they added all the self checkout lines. This place looks just as it did ten years ago. All the produce I've ever purchased here has been fresh. Same goes for the baked goods. The only problem with this Giant is that it gets packed sometimes and parking can be a hassle. Other than that this is a pretty solid store. read more

My big problem is the self-checkout area. 4 out of 5 times I visit the store, I have an issue of waiting in line for more than 10-15 minutes even though they have all 4 lines working. 1) People simply do not know how to scan things 2) People with 20-30 items go on here and spend forever 3) When help is needed, I find that the Giants lacks a person to provide the needed help. They always take a long time to respond to help request It's either one of those reasons if not more that I hate checkout systems at this Giants. I rarely have same issue with other groceries, even other Giants around the area. I think they should limit the items that customers can bring to this self checkout line to reduce the time of useless waiting for those who actually knows how to go through this lanes. Plus, I think they should have faster response time to help needed at the self check out registers. Also, they might need to open up more registers. Even though they have good products, sales, and whatnot, if checkout system is truly annoying and not getting any better, I think that serves as a good reason not to come this this store. read more

Aside from the lines always being super long, this Giant is actually the only grocery store in Potomac that has a Redbox machine. They have a variety of movies that get sold out as soon as they come out so make sure to grab yours quick :) read more

I would give 3 stars, but I gave 4 because the people are really nice here, except there is a creepy poultry guy who seriously creeps on me every time!!!! Anyways it is a standard Giant but I am disappointed in their bakery/cookies section. I love bakery cookies and I can never find good ones here. Also sometimes it is very crowded! read more

Shop here in a pinch for one-off needs since it's close to home, but the Giant in Potomac Village (Falls/River Road) is much better. Here, the fish counter area smells really fishy, which it shouldn't. The fish itself looks dried out. The produce is picked over, with moldy stuff sometimes left in the bins. The folks who work here seem very nice; Bill in the parking lot is friendly no matter the time of day. read more

I shop here because it is close and I am too lazy to go anywhere else. There are never enough cashiers available. How long will it take before they realize that most people prefer a live cashier and do not like self check out. There are often problems that need a live person available anyway, meanwhile the line keeps getting longer. On the other hand the self-checkout machine does not look tired and over worked. In this respect, Teeters is far better; come and think of it, it is better in more than one way. They mysteriously stop carrying popular products. The Giant brand seedless mandarins have about 5 seeds each. Most Giant brand items are inferior to other brands. Not enough people at the deli. Not enough people at the meat/fish counter I have thrown out one third of some fruit purchases. The rest rooms should be condemned by the health department; honestly the worst I have seen. But I have never had a problem with the paper towels. So it's not all bad. read more

This store is just not the same since Gary (the previous manager) left. Items that seem to be popular (and that I like) are replaced by others all the time. They ask you to talk to so and so, but if you leave a message because they're not around at the time, you never get a call back. When Gary was the manager, they would always call back and would try to get the item again (or at least you would get an explanation). Some of the meat also looks bad (why is it still on the shelves?). The people that work there and that I have seen there for years are the saving grace. They're always ready to help and it's nice to see their friendly faces. Hope this store goes back to what it used to be. read more
