This place was great. You can't find somewhere with this extensive of a selection in downtown DC. I went to the prepared food section to order lunch. My friend got the soondubu jigae that tasted delicious. It felt like something your mom would make homemade. I got the kimchi jigae that was very spicy and very good. Next time I really want to try the bulgogi deupbap. The market itself has a huge selection of items from produce, meats, and seafoods. The meats section was my favorite. You can't find the cuts they have most places. And then of course all the snacks. read more

Been here a few times to get my Asian groceries. What's Hot - Food court. There's a very small food court with hot and cold foods, that are already prepared, including a menu that you can order fresh made foods from. Their food court had foods that were already made, such as kimbap, potstickers, japchae, fried chicken bites, etc... - Bakery. There's a small bakery near the entrance, that has a decent variety of desserts like swirl cakes/cake logs, frosted cakes, baked buns (red bean buns), cookies, etc... It's small, but it's not bad. - Produce. Pretty good variety of produce. I saw longans, bakchoy, and other Asian veggies. As for fruits, I saw Asian pears, fuji apples, and other varieties. - Seasonings. Excellent variety! I was able to find my white pepper. They have more than an entire aisle dedicated to Asian seasonings, such as different brands and types of soy sauce, rice vinegar, rice wine, sesame oil, fish sauce, oyster sauce, etc... I was able to find things like fermented tofu, too. - Price. Pretty reasonable, especially given that many of these products aren't commonly found in the average American grocery store. For example, I found 3 different brands of white pepper and there was about $1-$2 difference between the 3 brands, which isn't so bad. HMart is definitely on the high end cost of Asian grocery stores. - Diverse clientele. This is one of the few HMarts that I've been to, where I saw a large Latino and African customer base. Every HMart that I've been to across the country always has a diverse clientele, especially because ethnic minorities are always looking for specific products that can't be found in mainstream grocery stores. - Health and safety. During this time of the pandemic, as things are evolving, it was really nice to see all their staff wear face masks. I've been to other locations, where it's a hit or miss- some staff do and some don't. It's reassuring to see all their staff wearing face masks. - Location. Conveniently located. There's a pizza joint (I think Domino's) and a froyo shop in the plaza! Definitely enough parking, as well, which is helpful. What's Not - Lacking variety. This HMart location is small. As a result, their variety is less. It also means they don't have the capacity to make so much on site. For example, I presume none of their baked goods are made on site. At other HMart locations I've been to, you can see different food stalls in the food court have their own kitchen areas, which means they're making their dishes on-site. That also means I've seen baked goods made on site. In addition to less dishes being made on site, it always means this location has less variety. For example, I was looking for dough slice noodles, which I've always been able to find at any HMart location I've ever been to. This location didn't have it. They do have a decent amount of dried noodles, but definitely not what I was looking for, which was disappointing. Same thing with their ramen. Half the row is dedicated to ramen, which is great. However, I couldn't find certain flavors and/or brands that I've been able to find at other HMarts before. My point is that because this HMart is a physically smaller space, they're limited in what's being provided. Be prepared that you may not find everything you want and you may need to look at other places and/or order online. Final Answer Not bad, but definitely doesn't have all of the products that I would want and/or need. read more

I've been to many H Marts. This one is an old one and not as large as some others. However, it is clean and very well stocked. They have all your usual items but also have a decent selection of fresh fish and other seafood. You can buy sashimi grade fish that is very fresh for a decent price. There is also a excellent selection of pre-made food as well as a small restaurant and eating area. The downside is the parking lot which is small and busy with cars pulling in and out from a tightly packed lot. But there is always a space to park. You just have to be patient with the parking situation. read more

The coronavirus has definitely made going outside a bit weird these days but coming here during the middle of the week and middle of the day was ok. Parking wasn't too bad as there were still quite a few open spots towards the back of the lot. There was an employee at the entrance making sure we all had face masks on (not sure if they were keeping track of the number of people entering the store as well but there was signage indicating that face masks were required to enter via governor decree). People were generally cognizant of the 6 ft social distancing recommendation especially by the checkout lines where there was tape on the floor. Produce, rice and meat were decently stocked. There was signage about how they were running low on kimchi but there was still some left. Obviously the food court was closed but you can still get some take out food. Cashiers had face masks and shields on. It seemed like some people were able to push their shopping carts out to their car but we opted to pull our car up to the curb to load our groceries in the car like we've always done in the past. read more

Fairly small sized H Mart Location compared to their other stores in the area. It's a very convenient place to pick up some asian food and groceries with ample parking available. The parking lot is often busy and filled with many cars and pedestrians so just be careful and mindful when driving around. I arrived yesterday afternoon to pick up a few ingredients to make Ramen for a yelp event and of course a few snacks. Prices are fair or even pretty low so I do appreciate shopping here. The store is also taking appropriate precautions with COVID19 going on, but I noticed a lot of customers weren't necessarily staying 6 feet apart. This store is a good place to buy ingredients for any Asian food but they don't tend to have everything you might need. There is a bakery in the inside that we order a slice of red lever cake which was delicious but a bit pricey. The biggest con is the main exit because at the stop sign and if you need to turn left to get into Georgia Ave there are cars park on both side of the road that block your view of oncoming car which make it dangerous! read more

I really liked how this H-Mart carries certain hard to find Japanese items for less relative to nearby competitors. I stopped by during late Friday afternoon. The store had moderate amounts of customer traffic. It was easy to park near the entrance without having to look too hard. The store carries some of my favorite Japanese items much to my surprise. It has frozen eels for less than $11; my favorite Japanese curry roux for only $2.99; all of my favorite refrigerated noodles were available: the Sanuki udons, the yakisobas, and the fresh ramen noodles. These are amazing compared to the dry variety. I liked how this location also had the Sriracha Mayo by Kikkoman and the Bulldog sauce (Katsu sauce). The meat section had a good amount of squids and sliced pork and beef ready for shabu shabu or homemade Korean BBQ marinade. I also discovered that I can purchase the dorayakis, Orange Brand Swiss Roll Cakes, Cream Puffs, and Eclairs here. Best of all, all items were more inexpensive than purchasing them at Maruichi or Great Wall. Lastly, the checkout experience was fast and efficient. Despite moderate amount of customer traffic, there was no line and no wait time. In sum, I can understand why some of my Japanese friends prefer this store more. As a someone who's used to H Mart/Asian grocery stores in LA/Hawaii, this store seems smaller and different. It's great to find Korean and Japanese products, but less variations and more goya (mexican products). I saw a lunch box, which was like $5 and good deal. Import products were not cheap, but if you miss authentic asian snacks, foods, and condiments, you can find some for sure. Parking is easy, but the store is pretty crowded. read more

My Indonesian wife and I come here on a regular basis to stock up on vegetables and fish, both of which are fresh and diverse. From pomegranates to bok choi, dragon fruit to cactus, you can find oh wonderful array of interesting food stuffs. The fishmarket is particularly fresh, better than any we found in the region. On top of that, you can stock up on all manner of Asian, Latino, and other package goods, like Ramen and frijoles. There is a nice selection of Korean prepared foods as well, interestingly prepared mostly by Latinas. We usually pick up snacks or dinner there. Spicy bulgogi is particularly yummy. One challenge is the parking lot. People seem to have a hard time driving in here and it can be a little complex getting in and out. Prices are good. Service is straight forward but not particularly warm and fuzzy. read more

In comparison to the H Mart I visited in Woodbridge I am forced to reevaluate my feelings toward this one. I like being able to find items that I can't find in other places. That was what I loved originally. Those things were snacks. As far as fruits and vegetables, I feel like Great Wall has a slightly better selection and better quality. A lot of this could be due to the size of this H Mart. It is on the smaller side, which of course means that they have to stock what sells. I understand but I'm also confused. There's an abundance of Central American mercados en Wheaton so I wish that more shelf space was devoted to more goods from the Asian diaspora. I will continue to shop at H Mart. The location is closer for me and I know what they have but my heart does reside elsewhere right now. read more

This place had what I needed - sweet potato noodles! It comes in a few different brands. The defining factor for me was getting the largest bag possible at the best price because my kids go through these noodles like it's the end of the world. I couldn't find them at the other local market I checked, so I'm really happy they carry them here! They also have some great produce here! I needed some salad ingredients for lunch and this place had some great looking Romain and cherry tomatoes! And the prices were reasonable! I'll definitely return again soon! read more

I'm a pretty big fan of H Mart but this location left me wanting more. I stopped by on a Friday around 6pm and the parking lot was full. The store appeared very busy and social distancing wasn't a thing anywhere other than the checkout. The store has the basics but it is smaller than nearby locations. I would probably go to the Gaithersburg location next time. I was at H mart to grab a bunch of Japanese snacks for a care package and found myself underwhelmed by the selection. There's a tiny selection of salty snacks and the sweets are at the checkout which wasn't convenient. There's also only a few ready to drink options. I will say there's a hot bar and a bread section that is pretty nice. Overall it's a normal H Mart that is slightly smaller than the ones you're use to. Update review - we finally checked out the food court here. It's tucked away next to the refrigerated drinks section. Don't let the strangeness of having a food court inside a grocery store fool you, the food is well worth it. Their prices are very reasonable and are served in quality bowls. Their tofu soups are delicious and comes with tons of side dishes. If you are hungry, definitely check out the grocery store. Plus, the staff here are very nice. They didn't have what I was initially looking for but, there is a lot to see. My issue is the pricing at check out. Someone else commented that the shelf price does not reflect at check out. I tried to tell the cashier and she just repeated the price on the screen. It is a problem if you have a budget in mind and the pricing issue was for a majority of my items. Used to go to this supermarket once every couple of months but now a lot more frequently during the pandemic. Good selection of fresh veggies and fruits as well as seafood here although prices are not the cheapest (for that still prefer stores like the Great Wall). Nevertheless this is my go to place for pomegranate juice, snack seaweed, imitation crab legs, rice cakes and occasionally other types of prepared food from the deli section. But most of all, love the tiny Momo Bakery tucked in a corner right by the entrance - they have the best European style layered buttercream cakes - you can buy them whole or in slices - the mocha flavors are my favorites. The cream and the cake are both very light and not overly sweet - which means you can eat a lot more of them without feeling stuffed. Too bad the store is a bit far from where I live - then again this is probably the only effective way to ration the purchase of these cakes. read more

It took me some time to get on the H Mart train, but I am here. I am happy to have one within driving distance of my home because it has added so much more variety to our diet. Also, I have family members who are transitioning into a vegan diet, and H Mart has so many essentials and cool produce for vegan meals that have made the transition more exciting. I've also been able to stock up on some cooking essentials so that I am able to try my favorite Asian inspired dishes at home (loooove thai basil chicken and noodles, yum!). We also did hot pot and korean bbq at home and we picked up everything from this H Mart included lot of marinated meats. As far as the atmosphere, it's rather tight and isn't super dirty, but I've seen cleaner H Marts. On occasion, it will smell a little fishy. However, it is still worth coming here....oh, and when food runs low at other larger grocery stores and limits are enforced, H Mart has plenty and you can get as much as you need. Don't forget to stock up on all of your favorite or never before tried ramen! read more

I occasionally go to this market because I live close by. I shopped here when it was called Han Ah Reum Market then changed to H-Mart. What has never failed to disappoint is the consistent rudeness and lackadaisical attitude of the cashiers. I don't know if it is store policy but they don't bag your groceries unless you pay the Montgomery County tax and get the H-Mart bags. I placed my opened up plastic bag on the counter as I was paying with credit card machine and the cashier was just looking around. This review is for the food court. It's rare to score a good chef. The Hmart food court's got an awesome Korean lady cook here. The soups are real bone broth soups. Their ox tail, galbi tang, and sullung tangs should all be made properly with lots of bones. It's rare to find Korean restaurants that don't take shortcuts in regards to proper usage of bones. Here, they do it right! One way to know is when you see a plastic container with ox tail soup, look and see if the broth is gelatin. Also, the broth would be smooth and give a slight sticky lips. This is a nice place for basic Korean ingredients, and a smattering of other types of food. This store isn't my usual go-to, but I found it to have everything I needed. I think if you're looking for an array of Korean utensils, this is the best place. All of the utensils here are very affordable, I got a stone bowl and holder for less than twenty dollars. It is a little less seasonal than some of the other Korean stores (they were running out of songpyeon for chuseok), but I do like that they have an array of Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino, and Mexican foods. read more

I recently came here on a Saturday afternoon and had a good experience! While smaller than expected, this H-Mart packed a lot of items into the space, particularly in the produce section. The prices were very reasonable, particularly coming from DC, and I picked up a number of vegetables, fruits, marinated meats, sauces, and banchan. The check out was fairly efficient as well and I noticed another customer had a refund processed quickly. One note, the parking lot was a mess! I prefer this one over the Gaithersburg one. There's a good seafood selection, and like all Hmarts, lots of great Asian ingredients and unique meat cuts! Some good premade banchan (Korean side dishes), and they tend to have samples on the weekends. The bakery here is pretty good!! The pastries are fresh and the items here are very true to Korean pastry styles (totally opposite for the Gaithersburg bakery). The little food court is also not bad! They have some surprisingly rare dishes -- their soulongtang (oxtail soup) was actually very tasty, with a great broth that can be hard to make. The galbi tang was also great and flavorful, with generous portions of beef. They also offer some side dishes, but I didn't feel they were that fresh, and were lacking a bit in flavor. Overall, this is a good Korean grocery to go to, with fun surprises all around! Coming here is almost like a trip to a food theme park. read more

I just made another visit to H Mart, yet AGAIN! Their produce section is very impressive! I bought a large amount of vegetables and a few fruits this time around. My goal was to make Buddha Bowls for the next 2 weeks. The veggies are SO fresh and tasty, the apples are HUGE! I bought kimchi for the first time! I love it, fresh. I finally, found sesame & miso dressing by Angelo Pietro, so so good! I always have to make a shopping list so I get everything I need because their variety will distract me from purchasing my go-to items. I watch a lot of Asian mukbangers, they always have amazing foods. Great experience! I shop early on Saturday or Sunday mornings (note recent change in hours). There is always a great selection of fresh vegetables and fruit. Prices are reasonable and, because most items are loose, you can buy as much or as little as you want. No need to buy in large quantities to get a fair price. Customer service is good. Even with a language gap, an employee in the office offered support when a worker in the seafood area spoke harshly to me while I was standing at the counter waiting for help.
