    Small Restaurant inside

Nice place to grab a quick bite to eat. This is primarily a grocery store but there is a small restaurant inside. There are about 5 tables. Place your order at the counter and once your order is ready, the kind lady calls you over. For the most part, everything we tried was quite tasty. The Soondubu jjigae was my favorite. Once you are done, place your trays on the rack beside the counter. You don't have to pay tip here. The grocery store offers snacks, seafood, meats, veg, condiments, etc. Overall, La Mart is a good place to do some grocery shopping and grab a quick bite.

La Mart had opened its 4th location just 10 min away from me. There were SO many flowers near the entrance that I couldn't get them all on this photo. For advertising wise, La Mart really needs to work on updating their website. Not only we can't find what's on weekly sale, their website doesn't even mention the new store. Extra employees everywhere, but the store was nearly empty. Advertise! As a Korean, I'm always looking for a good deal on Napa & radishes. This weekend, you could buy a box of radishes for $9.99 & a box of Napa for $2.99 in Annandale! La Mart has nice selections of vegetables & meats, but Kimchi ingredients aren't ever on sale. Also, it would've been sweet if they had food court. (Alas~ If only a Korean market had opened up at the Toys-R-Us location.) I'm irked that they had chopped up the 4 makerels into chunks- heads all included. Yuck. I requested #3, the butterfly shape. I was going to grill them. So sad; The store gave me some kind of free container as an opening give away. I would've preferred my fish cut correctly. How did I spend over $200?

    Raw Meat Packs

Purchased 2 packs of meat one " sell by April 3rd " and the second " sell by April 4th" on Thursday March 28th , today is April 1st . I went in today tell them how could this meat been sold if it wouldn't even have a shelf life of 3 days. His response "you didn't buy the meat in that condition , we don't know where you kept that meat. The sell by day means we have to sell it by that day and you have one day to eat it" - what ?! And I told him I had another one that is still great , red and doesn't smell HORRIBLE and he said that it could be be true. The one pack of meat the went bad in 2 day has a sticker underneath (being the original) with marked date "April 1st" which I didn't notice until this morning. He asked for my receipt and I obviously didn't have it 1 because who keeps those types of receipt ; never thought I'd have to go to a store and tell them the food didn't even have a shelf life. How are they selling meat and overlaying stickers so carefully that if you didn't look any closer you wouldn't notice it ! Never will purchase anything from here again.

My family has been coming here for years mostly because it's close by and has fresh produce at great prices. Only come here for fruits & veggies and maybe Asian snacks. Everything else is overpriced and the meats aren't that great. But don't count it out you can expect to save $30-$40 monthly if you do your grocery here! I'll warm you up front that parking can be a struggle because of large crowds and cramped parking spaces. The secret is to park behind the store. The store could be cleaner and there is a weird mixture of stenches that hits you when you walk in but it has never affected the quality of the food so it's a preference. The great part is that you'll find a wider variety of produce from all parts of the world that you won't find in your typical grocery chains like Safeway & Giant. Since my family is big on making home cooked meals, we are frequent visitors.

One can't help but compare La[me] Mart to similar Asian grocery stores around here. Maybe it's me, maybe it's them, but seeing as how I'm the one writing the review - it must be them. You'll find your produce, your live fishies, those other meats, the mandatory Hispanic foods aisle, and if you're lucky a favorite Asian snack. Don't get too excited now, they don't have it all. What they do have is a decent amount, but nothing in abundance. Get ready to wait on weekends if you have your eye on certain produce, but while you wait, strategize how you'll be making your way around people that like to park themselves dead-center in the middle of an aisle. It's just unfortunate that the people working here are as cold and stinky as the durian they sell. Lady running the "No More than 7 items" lane, seriously, quit taking people who have a million items and other lady, don't give me the cold shoulder when I ask you about the sample of whatever it is I'm about to eat. I know you're in Springfield, but it still won't hurt to smile. If you really can't hike down Backlick Road a bit more to that slightly better grocery store just like it, I suppose you could settle for this place.

And finally, there are some freshly prepared foods that make the co-op a destination store for me. Sushi. And those spicy samosas that are kept in the warmer near the soups. Especially the cabbage one! Apparently they are made by Zemen, the Ethiopian grocery on Maple, so you could also look for them there. That is the co-op the way I experience it. While browsing produce, I briefly placed a bag of kale in my backpack while continuing to shop openly in plain view. An employee approached me near the seafood counter and essentially implied I might be stealing, telling me I needed to take it out of my bag because he "didn't want me to get in trouble." The interaction felt unnecessary, humiliating, and accusatory -- especially since I was not hiding merchandise or behaving suspiciously. What made it worse was that the store seemed understaffed in areas that actually affect customer service: most checkout lanes were closed, customers were forced into self-checkout, and basic assistance throughout the store was lacking. I understand stores have loss prevention concerns, but there's a respectful and professional way to handle those situations. Instead of making paying customers feel singled out, management should focus on improving customer service and staffing.

Making my way to the register was easy, but the speed of getting to one is not quick. When I did get to the register it wasn't the simplest thing to use either. While using them I felt like I was under a microscope being watched by the employees instead of being assisted. It would have been quicker if they could have seen I was struggling a bit. This would have been an easier stop if this was my local store, but when in the area I had to make do.

I am part Russian and occasionally crave pierogi (vareniki); Wegmans is one of very few stores that sell fresh refrigerated pierogi (these are much better than the frozen ones). The last few times I instacarted these, I put them in my fridge and a few days later, after opening, I noticed they were moldy. One time I even put them directly in the freezer, and when I opened them they were moldy. I kind of gaslit myself and figured it was my fault for waiting too long to cook them. Well, yesterday I went to Wegmans in person and saw stocked moldy pierogis!! I mean several of the packages had visible mold. I cannot believe Wegmans is selling these, and clearly this is an ongoing issue for months. This really makes me question buying fresh food from Wegmans, given this wasn't a one off. Hopefully this is just limited to the pierogis, which is a specialty product that I assume doesn't have high turnover. Nonetheless buyer beware!! Wegmans, please fix!
