We went in here today just to check it out, and WOW. First thing I noticed, produce is WAY cheaper than Giant, and better looking. Great selection of everything Asian and Latin. And the seafood counter looks like an actual fish market. Fantastic. I'm no Asian Market guru, but I like this place a lot. Its a little crowded, and the parking lot is a little odd. Cheap produce, cheap meat, cheap vegetables... I can't complain about anything else if I just come here for groceries. I don't come here to hang out in the aisles or whatever. Parking sucks. People park crooked here. No one looks when they turn in/out. Don't take your nice car here. It is kinda dirty on the inside (floors, etc) but nothing grimey. Just a little dirty looking. We live 40 minutes away and I beg my husband drive me there every time we need stock up grocery. You can see I am a big fan. We've been to Fresh World, which is close by but we prefer this one. Being Asian, We've been to Grand Mart, H-mart and Global Food. I chose this LA mart. I can not speak Spanish or Korean but I got help from Customer service, I saw only one person. I asked him to show me spring roll wrapper and he took me there. We have no problem with using credit card. By the way, you need the credit card that protects you in their policy then you can shop till you drop. read more

I have been shopping here for awhile now and have noticed that it has been gradually going downhill. They still have the same amount of produce for sale, but they are very picky when it comes to letting you choose what produce you want to buy. Lets say you are just picking through the apples for the good ones, if they believe you are making a mess they will literally get in your way and tell you to stop making a mess. If I am the customer and want to spend my money on apples I do not want to buy the bad ones and want to buy the good ones, but they will not let you pick which ones you want. The workers and managers also do not want to help you unless of course you can speak their language. You had better know how to speak in spanish if you want help from the spanish workers or speak korean if you want help from the korean managers. If you only know english they will stare at you and give you only 2-3 words of english and hope you know that means to not bother me. I would rather drive down Backlick Road to another store called Fresh World. It is less than half a mile away and they sell everything LA Mart sells and is about twice as big. read more

Inside of the store is little crammed so hard to navigate with cart when there is lot of people inside. Parking lot of little hectic and confusing. LA mart came in the clutch unlike most supermarkets in the area. They are open on all holidays for any last minute shopping needed. Food is still fresh. This is an international market so I may understand why as it's still open as there are some who do not celebrate Christmas. Avoid the little area the sorta goes outwards when you've passed through the meats second because that place is just way too bloody tempting, soooo many yummy baked goods. Pretty good produce selection, they have fairly good variety, most everything is quite fresh, the area that holds the produce is honestly a bit too small for the amount of produce in the area so you're often pretty much shoulder to shoulder with everyone else in that area. read more

We live in very close proximity to this store. Come here often, and like other Yelpers here, mostly for veggies and/or fruit. Prices on that stuff rocks. If you're concerned about it, there's a thing called "washing produce", or just don't come at all. I have a recipe calling for Shanghai noodles which i figure i will find here. Also as other Yelpers have said, parking sucks and most of the other dry goods are a bit on the expensive side. This review is for the Edsall road location. Most fruits and veg are are priced the same as other grocery stores. Some exotic fruits like guava and sapote are expensive, which isn't a deal breaker for me because, exotic fruits. They do have a phenomenal selection of international food stuffs so you'll many find Thai, Chinese, middle eastern, Indian, Pakistani and Spanish brands not available elsewhere. You'll also find a good selection of Asian grocery items. However... and this is a big one... the fish area smells like hell. I have a high tolerance for fishy smells and I enjoy the pungent fishiness in different world cuisines, but I tried to check out the fish selection at la mart and had to beat a hasty retreat for fear of heaving my lunch on the floor. I love Asian grocery stores! And I'm lucky that this one is within two miles of my house. The produce & seafood is cheaper compared to American ones. I can get a nice salmon fillet at $4.99/lb and it looks, smells, and tastes good! I also come here to stock up on rice, soy sauce, sriracha, and Hello Kitty mango marshmallows. If you're looking for cheap mangoes this is your spot. I will never ever buy a mango for 1$ when I know that I can get better and cheaper in LA Mart. The hard thing with LA Mart is that, in general, I would like to know what I am eating and with the Korean food and lack of language knowledge it is hard to buy things. However, large size mushrooms with a large stem were delicious and the large package of thicker noodles was tasty. I love to buy (fairly expensive) Philippine dried mangoes because they are the best if your kids play sports and have to hang around a lot waiting for their event. They also have peeled and cooked chestnuts if that is your cup of tea. As far as the produce in general, LA Mart might be the only store in NOVA where you can get out of store and pay less then $100 for all your food. read more

This is an honest review. I'm sure others will relate to this experience. All I can say is, as much as I hate this store I'll stop by when I'm in the area to check out what produce they have that will be very cheap but slightly of decent quality. For the most part, I usually just bring home a bag of oranges or apples. If you're looking for "FRESH," don't come here. Other Korean or International markets have better stuff. LA Mart is great for keeping prices low, but please expect the quality of the items your buying to be "questionable." They'll have their days when they sell something that's completely great and cheap, but for the most part I find that my vegetables have to be cooked within a day or two and my meats have to be used immediately after purchase before it goes bad. I don't get the "fresh" sensation, but it is useable if you use them right away. Because I like to buy food and store it, I'd expect for it to last longer so I don't depend on LA Mart. Now, let me tell you about the seafood and meats! OMG they are so much cheaper, but remember you'll be getting what you paid for in the end! You may get more quantity wise, but the meats do seem like they're at the "end" of its legal sellable state. The meats will have a slightly different smell or texture than fresher products. And if you can't honestly tell the difference well, you must've had shitty foods your entire life. I'd say if you're cooking something that will need meet but you'll pack it with flavor, then go for the cheap buy if you can disguise the quality of the meat. However if you like to taste your steak or chicken, Hit the Road Jack! The customer service here is awful. One time I bought a bag of chicken drum attached to the thighs and drove home to prepare it. In that 20 minute drive, somehow the chicken decided it wanted to rot on me (assuming LA provides fresh meat). I called the store and reported that my chicken, which was bought under 30 minutes ago, had a foul smell as if it has gone bad. The response - "Could you please wrap all chicken pieces and come right back so we can show it to our manager." Of course I had no problem with this, but I just did not have the time deal with it. I kindly told the manager I wouldn't be able to return to LA Mary until the end of the week, it is a work week after all. He then told me to put the chicken in my refrigerator and not to freeze it. Like WTF!!! I told him I'm not doing so because there's a foul smell coming from the chicken I don't want it in my fridge to contaminate my food. So I said to the manager that I wanted him to check all the other chicken bags on shelves and to replace them with fresher ones. He said he cannot do such action without proof. So you're telling me a customer calling to report the issue (I wasn't even asking for a refund) is not enough to warrant chicken inspection? Do you expect other customers to buy the same thing? I then told him if he has denied my request as a customer, I would rather bring my rotten chicken to health inspectors and the FDA's attention than to return it back to LA Mart. It was a simple request to reevaluate the chicken bags that were on the same shelves I purchased mine. I'm sorry in customer service etiquette, customers are usually right on a complaint like this. Even if the customer is nuts, you must take the matter seriously. So being that this matter annoyed me, I waited 2 hours to go back to LA Mart. Not to return the chicken, but to buy another bag and see if they had taken my request into consideration They didn't! The new chicken bag I bought had the same foul smell! I then asked a friend to smell it and they said the same thing! I went to the customer service desk and presented my just bought bag with the previously bought one and told him to smell it. And I said to him, "you got a customer pretty frustrated and upset to prove a point." Luckily they kindly agreed and apologized. I took their apology and my money back, and that night they decided to check the chicken -and put newer bags up. If they had checked the chicken earlier like I requested, they would've found that the chicken was in fact spoiled and bad to sell. They would've been able to save other customers from buying awful chicken. And get this! I wasn't the only one returning my chicken that day, I saw at least two other customers come in with the same problem! BOOM! Be careful here guys! read more

The price of fruit here is great. If you're used to shopping at Giant you'll be pleasantly surprised by how cheap produce is here. I am less than impressed with the store's appearance. Eyes and nose burn when entering the store. They need to clean and disinfect the place. It reeks of rotten food, dead fish and other racid smells. I love this place. This is where I go when I need the ingredients for bibimbap but their other stuff is great too. Wide variety of fresh, cheap fruits and vegetables. They also sell hot foods and fresh made rice cake desserts, and there's a small Korean eatery I can't wait to try. This place just opened up this year so there isn't that old, decaying, fishy smell like other nearby Asian grocery stores I've been to. LA Mart is my go-to for international packaged products, international produce and dairy that I can't get at my local Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Expiration dates should be checked before buying and produce should be carefully cleaned after buying, but I also do that at other stores. Shopping at LA Mart is reminiscent of shopping overseas, so I embrace it. On one recent visit, I had ingredients in my arms to make a popular Korean dish (Tteokbokki). I stopped by to grab samples of hot dumplings being fried and the the woman left her station, pulling me along through the aisles, to show me which type of ingredients I should have been using instead of the ones I had picked out. She giggled with delight imagining me cook a Korean dish and wanted to make sure I was on the path to success--it was a very kind gesture. read more

Could I give this store less than one star? I wish I could rate this lower! I was in recently to buy a few a few items at the last minute and I don't plan to go back. This is one of the worst grocery stores in the area that I have been in. The most dirtiest store I've ever saw. This is the worst Customer Service I have ever had! Terrible customer service, lazy people, store manager, very rude. It seems La Mart staff really need complete training and managerial/supervision! On Nov 11 at 7 pm I purchased Whole Milk, 1 Gallon in this store. At home I noticed that the milk was soured - expiration day was "yesterday" - Nov 10. Next day I came back to the store. My visit to that store wasn't a matter of returning money (milk cost a little over $3, but I have spent more to get there). So the question is not about the money (although most grocery stores offer double refund as appreciation and excuse). Customer Service guy was disrespectful, he doubt that that was a milk I bought the day before. After that, he started blaming me that I had check the date before buying. Instead of apologize! This kind of behavior is unacceptable for someone who represents store's customer service. I've never experienced such horrible customer service before. What a shame! Buyers beware! read more

" The customer services said $15.99 only for oranges but charged $23 at the cash register. A product manager said "Buy it or leave. Well first off... there is not restaurant inside... musta been a thing of the past.... This is a great place for great savings on produce, seafood and meat. A huge supply of asian and hispanic foods... and 1 aisle of basic American stuff.... You are not going to find alot of low sodium items.. I'm not sure about all of the complaints I have read, but I do agree with some. The Asian selections are limited to key number of brands, so you'll have to go to the Fresh World which is less than 5 minutes away to get it. They are a bit disorganized, but I attribute that to the size of the store. As far as the customer service, they will help you find what you are looking for if you ask. The cashiers are mostly latinas who always greet you in a polite manner. The produce is mostly good, could be better but then again you are paying a low price for grade B - D produce unlike Giant, Safeway, etc who sell mostly grade A. The meats are ok, but I generally buy only chicken and oxtails, round eye steak or sliced rib eye for Asian soups. The seafood selection is somewhat limited but not bad. If I am in the mood for steak, I will go to Safeway for much better quality Angus beef when it is on sale. Overall this is a great little Asian grocery store. The best Choice for Asian produce in the area is Great Wall supermarket, they take excellent care of their produce if you can manage to find a parking space, they actually trim off the aging leaves, remove spoiling fruit and produce right away, unlike any of the others I have mentioned, Their seafood selection is one of the widest and wildest in the area (in the mood for Jelly Fish? They have it) Fresh World would be my second choice for best Asian produce, but it can be crowded on weekends. Best Way markets who focus is latino's does have extremely good prices on poultry, but I would not buy their beef products. Oh by the way I have never ever had a problem with my credit card being compromised at any of these markets. In the end you get what you pay for. I live near this market and I've shopped here a few times and am far from impressed. My main objection is that it is not clean -- the floors are filthy, I have seen employees handling food with bare, dirty hands, I have seen pallets of unwrapped produce left in the parking lot for an entire day, and there is an unpleasant, unclean smell in the store.. Frozen foods contain large amounts of ice crystals leading me to believe that they have been stored a long time and were partially thawed and refrozen. Even though the prices are good and there are some interesting products, I choose to go elsewhere, pay a bit more and live to see another day. read more
