I have shopped here for years. It has maintained its high quality. The workers are friendly and helpful. Many have been there for years. The prices are comparable to the big chain stores. (You put the meat on the slicing machine and set the thickness to 1 inch.) went to the front counter and asked the manager (?) to help her do it, he was no help. I said REALLY? he said REALLY! This is one of the most pristine supermarkets I have ever visited. Although it's not a huge store, it is well-stocked, and you can find everything you need--and more (including chicken gizzards!). The staff is extremely helpful, and the patrons are very nice. There are always multiple registers open, which is a bonus! It's a great local store, especially if the "Aldi" situated right behind it doesn't have what you're looking for. While you might find better prices at larger supermarkets, the inconvenience and less-than-friendly staff at those places make "Snider's Super Food" worth the extra few cents. read more

Snider's has become extremely expensive over the last year. I have compared prcices with Mom's which sets the bar prety low of high prcies), and Sinder's exceeds these. E.g., block of Guyere cheese at Mom's $6.99, Snider's, $9.99; Athletic NA beers, Mom's, $10.99, Snider's $12.99 Zeke's coffee: Mom's $16.99, Sniders, 17.99, and so on. The dismissive service by the young white male cashier was so unnecessary! YOU CHOSE TO WORK HERE so be kind to customers! If it's too difficult to be kind by smiling and wishing people a good day, then don't work in the customer service industry! The produce prices have skyrocketed! Great deli, and they carry a number of specialty items (especially cookies) that are hard to find in other supermarkets. The prices are higher than supermarket chains as well, but that isn't unusual for an independent store. I love the convenience of running in for a few items on my way home. The store is almost never crowded amd I am in and out in under ten minutes! read more

I've been coming here for almost 30 years. I figured when the Snyders Family sold, there would be changes, but the new owners went out of their way to reassure customers that the important stuff would remain steady. Sadly, the deli counter has, which was my main reason to keep shopping there despite other changes, has declined so much that I feel compelled to comment here. I would say that at least a third of things that I order come out wrong. The counter staff, who are not new to the job, do not seem to know the products. I ask for turkey ham, I get pork. I ask for navel pastrami, (which is the old fashioned beef product that other places do not stock), and they start slicing turkey. (This, even when it says pastrami navel in the display case!). I ask the price of something, and the counter person keys in a code, slices the meat an then charges five dollars a pound more than the price she said it cost (which I only asked because the staff neglected to label the price for that particular item) -- and then argues with me when I point out the discrepancy! (Claims she quoted the price of something different). Or I ask for cole slaw, which the posted price lists as 5.99 a pound. She keys in a code for 6.99 and when I ask, she claims that an old price. (Clearly, not understanding that you can't advertise the wrong price and refuse to sell at that price). When I ask for a manager, the counter person says no manager on duty. Snyder's was known as a place with good food and good service After a number of recent experiences, I am sad to say my old favorite is becoming no longer so . I hope the new owners read these reviews and do something to restore the store's former luster. read more

Snider's is great!!! Yeah, it's small. Yeah, it has a limited selection of some items. Yeah, parking can be cramped at times. I discovered a secret today: Go during the peak of Passover. I went today (the first full day of Passover) at 10 am and the store was empty!!! What I like best about Snider's: * Fresh produce * Friendly staff * Lower prices * Cheap wine * Cheap wine (I purposely repeated that one!) Also not to overlook is the 'bargain' area when you first walk in. The dairy case contains sale items for things soon to pass their expiration dates. For example, a 7oz wheel of brie expiring on April 22 is just $1.98. Calavo guacamole with a sell by date for next week is just $1.98 too. One of my favorite finds is the containers of Uptown pastries. I got six jumbo muffins for $3.98. Carrot, chocolate chocolate chip, blueberry and cranberry, yum! They also have packages containing danishes and scones. My neighbor works at Whole Foods in Georgetown, but does her regular shopping here. I usually stop in only for wine and fresh cut flowers, but after today, I plan to shop here more often. It's not a chain; it's family owned and locals love it. The staff seem to like it to. When Jerry Snider passed away from lung cancer at age 80 earlier this year, the staff placed a plaque on the wall out front in his honor. Definitely a place to shop for this and that. You may not find your favorites, but cheap wine is cheap wine. :) read more

I really love Snider's for so many reasons, but they need to up their game on hygiene and sanitation!! Half the employees have ineffective face coverings (eg, 1 has a bandana, 1 has a mask that is open on his chin and not sealed.) These are high level employees! Managers! I was very disappointed. We're still in a pandemic, people!! The owners should either provide Snider's employees with KN95 masks (3 per person per week) or with properly made cloth masks (including noise clips, and various sizes) with the Snider's logo. I don't like shopping somewhere I don't feel safe, or where I don't trust their commitment to health and hygiene. They've always had problems with the cleanliness of their employee restrooms, which does NOT inspire confidence. Please do better, Snider's!! read more

For 15 years, Sniders has been my favorite market in Silver Spring. I usually shop during the evening rush hour on my way home from work. This compact market is the place for FAST in and out. There is almost never any wait for a cashier, and they have a second bagger who moves fast. (Even the parking lot moves fast, especially compared to the nearby shopping centers!) They have almost everything you want, if not in the precise brand you expected. Over the years, I have found their prices to be extremely competitive for vegetables, fruit, meat, dairy and most groceries. They have an astonishingly good choice of wines and beers for a non-specialty liquor licensee -- again at very competitive prices. The deli counter is excellent -- whitefish salad, potato salad, fresh mozzarella balls, cole slaw. Their catering is excellent too. I have had raves about their sandwich platters at my events. (But for a hot pastrami sandwich, go to Parkway Deli.) Before long you will recognize the men and women who staff all the departments, and the checkouts. Today, in the face of widespread shortages, they had everything I needed for a week's worth of meals, plus staples, as we plan to minimize our contacts. I've pass this place for years, not knowing if they were even really an operating business. After, looking into it, I learned their open and actually a great place to shop. So, today I stopped by for my first visit. I will definitely shop here again. The store is small, yet having all essential items. You don't feel the stress of larger grocery stores. I found some great items( I've never seen elsewhere). Sniders have all the local breweries stocked on their shelves. The produce and meats appeared very fresh ( I'll update you all on that in later post). Definitely stop by Sniders if your in the area. read more

Truly a dying breed : the independent grocery store . They have a great deli ! They have a prepared Italian cold cut sandwich that is amazing ! A lot of unique desserts as well . A great local family owned supermarket. I love that they sell beer and wine along with groceries! Because I live in MOCO, there are not many places like this anymore. They have some amazing deserts in the bakery section and even get cannolis from Little Italy (Vaccaro's) in Baltimore. Pro tip: they post a $10 off coupon in their website once a month, keep an eye out during the first week, must spend at least $50. read more

If you grew up in MoCounty or have been in the Silver Spring area for awhile, you probably know someone who has worked here. My first boyfriend worked here. A large number of people from my church and pool worked here. I've had classmates work here. Even kids I've babysat have worked here at some point. Snider's always does a great job of finding high school and college students part-time jobs as baggers and cashiers. This small, local grocery store is also not as intimidating as some of the larger, mega chains. They usually carry some excellent produce. In fact, during the summer this is one of the best places in the area to purchase seedless watermelon. They also have tons of Mediterranean products: plenty of hummus flavors, babaganoush, tabbouleh and the like. Additionally, unlike many grocery stores in Silver Spring, Snider's sells beer and wine. And a pretty good selection at that. Lines are usually manageable and prices are very reasonable, so what is there not to like?! read more

How on earth could I have driven by this place so many times and not gone in? Perhaps it was the parking lot of death that scared me, it's a small u shaped lot where shoppers with carts and those looking for a parking space cannot coexist in harmony cause there's no room. Perhaps I thought it was a slaughterhouse cause all it says is "meat" on the side and looks intimidating. But I did bookmark this on Yelp and finally went in and realized what I had been missing. 1-Cheap and fresh produce. Bell Peppers (3 for $1.59). Even the fresh herbs are cheap. Case in point, a small container of fresh mint at Whole Foods runs in the $4.00 range, a large tub container is about a $1.50. 2-You would be suprised by the seafood selection. Cheaper salmon by the pound and some ginormous shrimp. 3-A wine and beer selection,rare in Maryland grocery stores. 4-Oh yeah, the wine is cheap. 5-Alot of mediterrean type cuisine ingredients, and lots of products from Cava. My final bill was alot cheaper than most grocery stores. Looks like I'll be cooking at home more often. read more

Great service, great selection; awesome produce section with excellent prices. Customer service here is good; very nice deli. Reasonable prices and good selection on meats as well. Their bagels and breads that we've had have also been very good. They sell beer and wine as well (a plus), though I still can't get used to MD alcohol prices... higher than any surrounding state for less selection :( Parking lot is a little tight, though we haven't had a problem finding a spot yet. read more

Broken-hearted after ordering a hot pastrami sandwich only to open it up in the car and see that it was not a hot table, slow cooked pepper and spices on the edge pastrami but rather a cold; cold cut style impostor with YELLOW mustard and not something delite-ful like Ba-Tampte/Golds mustard soaking into the hot, steamy middle. At least the Rye bread was LEVYS! The two knishes I took home for dinner looked ok and sufficed (with some gentle microwaving) despite being a little bit dry and not as creamy as most...maybe they were old. They have the round Jewish grandmother ones and not the more common square pillow shaped commercial ones. Cole slaw was eh... The best bet for Knishes outside of NY( and in FLA) maybe even within it's legit boundaries is Ben's https://www.bensdeli.net/content/boca-raton-florida-takeout-menu The last good Pastrami Sandwich south of Philly was at Pearly's in Richmond. You know everything that is terrible about grocery stores these days? So big it takes 1/2 hour to circle the store? Self checkouts? Long lines? No staff to help you? Factory produced, prepackaged, pink slime containing meats? Understaffed, understocked delis with no selection? No wine or beer? Well, Sniders is just the opposite. This small, neighborhood grocery store just inside the beltway and steps from Georgia Avenue makes going to the store a pleasure instead of a chore. I can be in and out in under five minutes if I am in a rush, and for weekend stock ups, they will bring your bags to your car. They are adding new fancy items all of the time, trying things at the suggestions of their customers, and are improving their already excellent store. You can get in and out in under five minutes in a rush. No lines. Real cashiers who greet you and thank you. Staff who bag and carry your groceries to your car with a smile. People there to answer your questions and help you. Actual butchers who can help you with special orders or grind actual cuts of fresh meat for your burger or recipe. The new owners are destroying what was a great grocery store. Each visit has been worse than the last visit;Whitefish Salad that was half mayonnaise, rotten olives, expired milk, steak that was discolored. On my most recent visit all of the old expert deli staff were absent. A sullen young woman informed that there was no smoked Turkey or Fresh Turkey. A produce worker was loudly cursing while doing his work. The story was mostly empty of customers. My guess is the store will close because everyone that I have spoken to has had bad experiences. I, like many others, will pay more for high quality food and good service; I will not pay more for lower quality and poor service. The founders must be turning over in their graves. read more

My new habit is to go to Sniders at least twice a week on the way home from work, because I can be in and out of there in 10 minutes or less with whatever I want to make dinner with that night. Fresh, easy, hooray. It's a great size--big enough so they have most of what you would need, but small enough that you can shop really fast. The staff is friendly and helpful and more often than not I have zero wait for a cashier. Unlike the nearby crappy Giant, they have separate cashiers and baggers so by the time you're done paying, everything's bagged and back in your cart. They sell wine and beer! Also, they support local public schools so yay them. I lived here for years without going, and now I'm a Sniders superfan. read more

This is going to seem hopelessly sentimental but I miss supermarkets like Sniders. When did we decide that we need 50 types of mustard? When I was a kid, there were many of these grocery stores around that offered real service and a good selection. Sniders will never be able to compete with a giant food or shoppers for selection but I just need what I want at a good price. More is not more. And more sometimes comes at a cost. This is my neighborhood store and I've been coming here for years. Love it for many reasons. However, I really do wish the mgt would up their game a bit regarding the teen cashiers. I think it is delightful that Sniders gives local teens part time jobs. But how about a little customer service skill training for this workforce? More times than not lately, the cashier is a young male who makes no eye contact, says nothing and tries to keep his eye on his phone while ringing up my order. Doesn't lift a finger to even move my merchandise into the bag I put up on the counter -- I now routinely bag up my stuff myself. Is this a new Covid prevention routine. How about a thank you? I will go on living but ending the experience at Sniders in this manner is a downer. read more

By fresh I mean I can by tomatoes that do not wilt or wither for over a week for example. The people are always friendly and the meats are really good. Don't see something you want in the meat department, ask the butcher. They can make some fresh cuts for you. Ohhh and did I mention the wine and beer selection in the store?
