    Esquite Plazero

New Mexican restaurant in Johnston!! This place definitely has a good vibe. The Esquite Plazero was a delicious start. Somehow it was spicy but not a bothering spice. The Guacamole was fresh and it was fun to interact with the waitress while she was whipping it up. The manager was very friendly. And checked in many times throughout the meal. The Trio platter is a great deal to taste many items. However the food ate a bit dry. The rice and the meats could have used some moisture - however overall it was good. And of course Mexican Fried Ice cream is the best goodbye. Next time I hope they have vanilla but the strawberry was good. Overall the prices were very reasonable, the food was average and the service was good. I will be back because there are many different options I want to try. You should definitely give this place a try.

Stopped for dinner and loved everything. Staff was attentive, the restaurant was clean and beautiful. Vibrant colors and good music make the it a whole vibe. The food was the best authentic Mexican I've had in RI. We started with chicken taquitos which were filling enough for an entree. I had the whole red snapper and my husband had the fish tacos. All had amazing flavor with fresh ingredients and good sized portions. I accompanied my meal with the margarita flight and all three flavors were great. Do yourselves a favor and go!

    Molcajete Ranchero

This place has been on my list to try and instantly jumped to one of my favorite Mexican spots in RI. The place is clean and aesthetic, the drinks were strong (the flight is 3 full sized margs!), and our server was kind and attentive. But the food was the real highlight. We shared a cold seafood dish (torre de mariscos) and the molcajete - and cleared both plates. Every bite was packed with flavor, and you can truly tell the food is made with love.

We went here for the first time. The atmosphere was clean and the floor was amazing. Service was quick. The food came out hot. We had drinks right away. The mules were awesome.

It's best for small groups (no more than 4-5). I love the customer service here: our server explained the alcohol as we got each of our cocktails. I will admit, though, because I'm slightly hard of hearing, I missed a lot of the explanations, but that's ok. I came in a group of four and we all took sips of each other's drinks and that was really fun! Every drink was great, but I do favor my sake drink, white port/cream soda cocktail, the vermouth, and the one with the amaretto. Don't expect the menus to be the same as in this review! They do change it frequently and have non-alcoholic mocktails, too. We heard about this place from coworkers and that they had won an award for best new bar--an award that's well-deserved.

First the hostess / doorman really helps set the mood with his calm, soft spoken demeanor. Once inside the lighting is dim, the space is washed in a pink pastel hue and you realize how small the space really is, 16ish seats. The menu is short but you have the option to order "off menu" and we are so glad we did. We had a little interview with our server for what we were looking for and none of the custom cocktails were a disappointment. This was great as a double date venue and we cannot wait to come back. A really incredible experience and the team clearly works very hard.

I was lucky to have tried North when it was open so when I saw the former chefs were preparing the meal for Chef Night, I knew I had to sign up and was so glad I did. The meal was stupendous! The first course was shrimp and corn fritters. The fritters were filled with shrimp and corn and you can visually see the shrimp and corn. It wasn't overly doughy and the sauce was delicious! Chef Andrew described the dish and he told us that the shrimp was locally sourced from Dune Brothers. The second course was noodles with tomato and pepper dashi and grilled fish. The noodles were fresh, but it started to get a little clumpy. The dashi was really flavorful. The third course was miso tres leches cake with sakura whipped cream. This course I was the most excited about and it totally blew my expectations. Chef Andrew told us that they hand picked sakura petals and made their own whipped cream. The tres leches cake was moist, dense, and airy. The dessert was definitely the star of the show. Bravo to chefs Andrew McQuesten and Stephen Sternkopf for a wonderful locally sourced meal. Jean-Marc and the other bartender were also very friendly and accommodating. They checked on all the customers throughout the night and made yummy drinks. I had the Toasted Venture. This is one of the signature cocktails and has Toasted Pumpkin Seed-Infused Misguided Spirits Red Sky Silver Rum/Cynar/St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur/Rosemary Elixir/Mole Bitters. It was very good. Upon entrance is a doorman who is so friendly and accommodating! He found us an open table and checked on us throughout the night. The place was packed and they only had maybe 5 or 6 employees so the service was a little slow but understandable. I think the longest wait was about 20 minutes when we were waiting to get our initial drink order taken, but everything after that was fairly quick. For drinks I got a thin mint martini because they were out of the chocolate reuge martini I wanted. It was so yummy and came with 3 thin mint cookies. My mom got a pistachio martini and the Jefferson Tea. Both were pretty good but I wouldn't order again. My dad got Dead Mans Redemption which is good if you like bourbon. It comes with a wood topper and they light it on fire, let smoke fill in the drink, and then take the wood off. The drink then has notes of smoked wood in it which is cool. For food we got the crispy spring rolls and pepperoni flatbread. Both were so good!!!! It was absolutely worth the wait!!! I could eat the whole flatbread myself it was that good and I can't wait to go back and get another one. The crowd is definitely much older, not a lot of younger people around. It's a good date night for married couples. Overall it was a nice place and I would come back.

Lots of retro decor (think Slimer from Ghostbusters, Hulk Hogan pillow buddies, etc). The walls are lined with arcade games... bring your quarters! Whole variety of seating, from tables and chairs to circular booths, and the like. The perfect space to settle in for a bit, especially on a rainy weekend evening. We were greeted immediately and provided with a number of menus... and what a menu! Lots of comfort food options ranging from apps to entrees, and a number of sandwiches and burgers. I was vacillating between the hot dogs and a couple of the chicken sandwich's and ultimately selected the Cool Ranch Ray with grilled chicken, cheddar, bacon, and Ranch dressing. It was delicious! Unfortunately, the fries left something to be desired as they were fairly dried out and a bit tough to get down. Perhaps a bit less time in the fryer could have fixed that. Dessert was a nice cap to the meal with Nutella empanadas. Yum! PB & Jealous drink... divine. Our waiter Chris was moving and grooving... never seeming to stop for a second and always finding time to check in with us. Pretty certain he was behind the bar AND waiting tables and kept up with it all. Bravo! Fun evening, great food. Will definitely be back.
