I've been wanting to try this place for a while. I drove by it a lot and it's always packed. I had high hopes. They were quickly able to accommodate our large party. The lights were constantly flickering. The music was so loud we had to yell just to hear the person sitting across from us. The plates were hotter than the food. There was no carne asada available. Great spot for Mexican! We had been to this location previously when it was Savory Memories - we much prefer this over its predecessor. Located on a strip off Killingly with a decent amount of parking in the lot. Good looking spot with plenty of seating and a nice large bar. The only thing was that the entrance faced the bar directly where we sat so everytime the door swung open we got a huge gust of wind and a wave of cigarette smoke from the chain gang outside. So I'd suggest sitting further away from the entrance to avoid this. I'm not always the biggest fan of Mexican but wanted to give it a shot and I really enjoyed my experience here! I didn't get her name, but our bartender was phenomenal! She was a little spitfire - great personality and very attentive. You're started off with complementary chips and salsa - chips were a tad salty but were hearty bites, salsa was just ok. We ordered fish tacos and the pollo al gusto. The chicken was a bit on the oily side but was seasoned well and each bacon laced bite paired nicely with a crema sauce (I requested on the side). Fish tacos were very tasty and the chipotle mayo was yummm. Both came with rice, beans, lettuce and pico. We ended our meal with the fried cheesecake, good but not great - it wasn't what we were expecting. We both thought it would some sort of breaded cheesecake fried but it looked like it was in a wrapper of some kind and deep fried. I prob wouldn't get again but glad we tried it. All in all, we really enjoyed our visit, the staff was outstanding - the manager checked in on us a few times and really made us feel welcomed. We will def be back! read more

New Mexican restaurant in Johnston!! This place definitely has a good vibe. The Esquite Plazero was a delicious start. Somehow it was spicy but not a bothering spice. The Guacamole was fresh and it was fun to interact with the waitress while she was whipping it up. The manager was very friendly. And checked in many times throughout the meal. The Trio platter is a great deal to taste many items. However the food ate a bit dry. The rice and the meats could have used some moisture - however overall it was good. And of course Mexican Fried Ice cream is the best goodbye. Next time I hope they have vanilla but the strawberry was good. Overall the prices were very reasonable, the food was average and the service was good. I will be back because there are many different options I want to try. The food was pretty standard solid tex mex. Everything was good. Its seems a little upscale but is very nice inside. The service was as good but I dont think they know the menu that well. Theres no a la carte portion and there is no substitutions. Place is on its way to be a hot spot if they crank up the enthusiasm and knowledge of the cusine. read more

Ambiance was comfortable and also interesting! After a long day of errands, I still felt welcomed in my relaxed outfit (sans makeup) but I could also see being dressed up next time for date night! Easy lighting on the eyes and fun music in the background! Great bar seating! Service was welcoming, helpful, friendly and outstanding! I asked questions about the seafood options and landed on the grilled octopus. Fantastic! The perfect kiss of spice, cooked perfectly and the cucumber salad was the balance that gave the dish just what it needed. I also got the blueberry margarita - not too sweet but exceptionally delicious! We will be back for sure! I'm angry with myself that I realized I didn't snap any pics so gosh, darn it!! Stopped for dinner and loved everything. Staff was attentive, the restaurant was clean and beautiful. Vibrant colors and good music make the it a whole vibe. The food was the best authentic Mexican I've had in RI. We started with chicken taquitos which were filling enough for an entree. I had the whole red snapper and my husband had the fish tacos. All had amazing flavor with fresh ingredients and good sized portions. I accompanied my meal with the margarita flight and all three flavors were great. Do yourselves a favor and go! read more

The food at this restaurant was definitely the best Mexican food I've ever had. I thought I didn't like Mexican because what I had elsewhere was so bad. Service was perfect, we were never left waiting or wanting anything. I cant describe how delicious everything that we ordered was. I want to go back now and work through the whole menu. The sauces were fresh and tasty and the main dishes were loaded with meat. The atmosphere was pleasant, music playing and a beautiful setup. It wasn't too loud and was extremely clean. This place has been on my list to try and instantly jumped to one of my favorite Mexican spots in RI. The place is clean and aesthetic, the drinks were strong (the flight is 3 full sized margs!), and our server was kind and attentive. But the food was the real highlight. We shared a cold seafood dish (torre de mariscos) and the molcajete - and cleared both plates. Every bite was packed with flavor, and you can truly tell the food is made with love. read more

Food was okay with good flavor. Had the steak fajitas the steak was chewy tough but tasty. Order a spicy margarita it was awfully sweet! Then order Mexican coffee! the good reviews here have me completely baffled. 66 bucks for the two of us. i just had the appetizer sampler and my husband 3 tacos. food was ok but nothing to write home about esp for the price. we also had the chorizo nacho cheese as an appetizer, which was runny to the point of being fully liquid. once we ate all of our chips, having barely breached the cheese at all, they took the basket away and didnt refill it lol. when we asked for boxes, they didnt bring anything for the cheese and i just didnt care any more to bug them for a cheese container. sure whatever. keep my cheese. dozens of restaurants in town serving tacos, you dont have to choose this one. its also loud as hell in there lol. you took my cheese AND i have to listen to mr. worldwide??? read more

Went this past friday for dinner. Had no reservation and they were very busy.And we were told, we would have to wait an hour. Our table was ready before an hour. While at the bar waiting for our table i ordered a paloma. I don't know what they gave me, but it wasn't a paloma. It tasted like saltwater and maybe some soda water I could not taste any tequila and no grapefruit. Told one of the female bartenders and a guy walked over and asked, who ordered the poloma. He then told me that yeah, we don't have any grapefruit soda. Okay, so what did you put in it?If there's no grapefruit, soda or grapefruit juice in it. And why did the bartender agree to make me one If they didn't have the ingredients. If the food was very good, the burria tacos and the guacamole trio were excellent. The restaurant is very loud. They play the music very loud overhead, and when there is a birthday, they had a giant lit up sign and they play overhead the birthday music which was extremely loud. My daughter ordered beef tacos and we got chicken tinga. I think if it hadn't been that loud Maybe the server could have heard what my daughter was saying. Excellent! Stepping in tonight, we immediately noticed what a cool restaurant this is! Mix of mex meets industrial decor with popping colors and modern gleaming lighting fixures. Warm. Welcoming. We were immediately acknowledged at the host stand, provided menus, and we were seated by the friendly host. (Menus look great by the way.) Never been there so we scanned the restaurant noting very cozy tables, large roomy chairs and the comfortable roomy booth where we were seated. Our server came and welcomed us and took our drink order and then returned with drinks and to check if we were ready to order. She was VERY pleasant. Bar looks cool. Large TVs with the game on but not obnoxious volume at all. Music was great, fitting for the restaurant with volume set perfectly so we could hear it... and each other. The bar looked and comfy with about... 15 - 20 bar seats. My cocktail days are over, but I can easily see my younger self coming in to eat and drink. We ordered shimp ceviche for an appetizer. It came out in no time and was super (SUPER) fresh with a generous serving with chips. I got a chicken burrito and my friend got a skirt steak and chicken. (Dose omigos.) Everything was delicious and super fresh! Yum so good! (We came across an article about Mexizol in a Johnston newspaper. We visit family in Johnston, and then before the drive back to Boston, visit our regular spot for dinner. We stopped here instead not knowing what to expect.) I would give this experience a 10. This place was EXCELLENT. I have no words to capture how delicious this meal was. As a Mexican-American I am always looking for places with authentic flavors with a modern twist. And this place is IT! I genuinely did not take a picture because of how delicious it was, I ate it so fast. I had the salmon Al pastor and it was delicious, my father had the carnitas tacos and said they were absolutely amazing. My mom had the fish tacos and ate every last bite. If I was on death row, my final meal would be the tuentanos con arrachera!! The flavor of the bone marrow with the chimichurri is the BEST thing i've ever tasted. this has been our go to place for Mexican food as of lately, but each time we come it seems to be more and more disappointing. we walked in and noticed besides the two men at the bar the place was completely empty. this was nice, more attention on us and our food should come out fast. wasn't the case. our server was very soft spoken and seemed like her familiarity with English was lacking. we told her what we wanted to drink, and after coming back with waters I asked for a lemonade with muddled strawberries. she giggled a shy laugh but made a face like it would be coming shortly.after 10 minutes I realized...I wasn't getting my lemonade. we ordered our main dish and specified what kind of protein we all wanted. Barbaco for one and the other two were shredded beef dishes. when we got our food, all the dishes were made with ground beef! this was particularly interesting because she had come back and double checked what each of us got, just to be sure. I can't recall if she checked in with us after we got our meal but we're not picky so we ate it. Check in times were very speratic and spaced out. We finally finished and seemed like we were waiting for the check for a long while. ( remembering there were only two other men the whole night sitting at the bar) the check finally came and my sister in law politely requested the check be split. The top card totaling $55 and the remainder of the check will be applied to the bottom card. I even jokingly said "yes $55" in Spanish and she said it back to me in Spanish. Nope. Checks came back and the top card had $76 while the bottom totaled $60. These are all very minor things in the bigger picture but given the over all circumstances it seems like mistakes that could have been avoided. They were not understaffed, the place wasn't busy by any means, and our orders were not difficult. Hoping the next time we go it will be a more seamless experience. we do enjoy going here and it would be disappointing to do business elsewhere. read more
