Went to check this place out for lunch, Mr. Gemba Walk and I are scoping out the local eateries in Temple. Today we decided to go south of the border for some Mexican. In the words of Mr. Walk: "yeeeee HAW!!" The place has darker tile floors, a larger room in the back, 2 TVs for your viewing pleasure, and it gets packed during lunch. A friend of mine has been here and loves their "Super Mocajete" which I found on the menu - - oh my, it's a huge bowl of shrimp + beef + chicken and some fixins for $13.99. Looks fabulous but a bit too much for lunch, so I lock in on a $5.99 Al Pastor gordita + soft taco plate while Mr. Walk goes for his usual - - a beef taco + quesadilla plate. You get three sauces with your chips here, which is a delight since I love choices. Two red sauces, one is steaming hot, both are spicy, and the third is queso- - which was a surprise. More on that later. The chips here are yellow and a thicker cut and they taste good (see pics). The queso was good, nothing outta this world but tasty, and I loved both of the red sauces as well. My Al Pastor was good but not great. The gordita was somewhat greasy so I didn't finish it, but the pork was well seasoned. I think next time I'll try the beef. Mr. Walk had no complaints about his dish - - this I could tell since he was very quiet and focused during eating time - - too busy munching on that queso. We ran out of the 3 sauces so I ask for refills, the waiter obliges. When we get our bill I notice they charged us $1.99 for queso, so I asked the waiter about it and he said the 1st one is complimentary. Well, we didn't know that, I never read that anywhere, no one told us, and frankly had I known that I don't think I would have re-ordered it. The waiter was baffled so I told him to talk to the manager - who cleared it up and took it off the bill. I thanked him, the waiter apologized for the misunderstanding, and I said no worries - we're good. While all this is going on, Mr. Walk's posture stiffens as he sits up in his chair and acts like he's getting ready to do the Alamo thing all over again. I told him there wouldn't be a battle, they took it off the bill, we don't need an Alamo repeat, we lost, they won, we got NAFTA, and we love each other now so let it go. We called them 20 minutes ahead to place our order and they said it was gonna take 10 minutes so we come after 15 minutes thinking our order is ready. Then finally someone from the drive through took care of us she asked us for our orders name and then after 30 minutes waiting she gave us our order so in total this took 1 hour. I am an absolute idiot for giving this place a second chance! this is absolutely the worse place in all Temple or Texas for that matter! We sat for 35 to 40 min and our food NEVER CAME! We order 2 ground beef tacos and 2 soups. Our server never came after our water not even once NO ONE ever came and ask or let us know what was happening NEVER! We got up and left and NO ONE even noticed. It is not the first time we have had bad service here so actually it's on us for even walking in here but it was the only open place at 9pm. I should have read Yelp reviews 1st bf going there for the 1st & last time this morning. Ordered one 3 Taco Plate w/rice & beans. All 3 "crispy" taco shells were like yesterday's rejects as they smelt old & were rubbery. VERY flimsy on the ground beef. Didn't notice this til after getting home. Also, rice was bland. Initial service was just ok. Our waiter was very nice once he finally came to the table. Food lacked flavor. My food was cold and sent it back to be heated up and it still came back barely warm. First things first, there was a shrimp on my Huevos Rancheros plate. A SHRIMP. Second, there was rice in my refried beans, so that makes me wonder if they just reuse beans from other people's plates. Because if you just cooked it up, theres no reason there should be rice in refried beans. Only thing I could really eat was the eggs, but those werent even how they should have been. I didn't expect much walking into this place but when they delivered our food, the plates literally burned our arms and hands because entrees were finished in the oven. My husband took one bite of his entree and didn't like it because the onions and cilantro which should've been used as a garnish were burnt to a crisp. Entree smelled and tasted burnt, but left on the bill. We don't mind it being left on the bill, but at least offer a replacement. read more

It was my first time coming here. First let me say that the chips are out of a bag. Like are you for real all Mexican places make them them selfs not buy them. The salsa was even out of a can. I know Mexican I can tell when something isn't authentic at all. I got the fajitas mix so stake , shrimp, chicken, well I got 2 pieces of shrimp. The stake was good and so was the chicken. For a appetizer I got the mix started witch had 4 pieces of chicken wings 2 pieces of shrimp 1 half of a quesadilla and a taquito. Oh and the plate was filled with old lettuce. I must say that the house margarita was in definitely good. The server was over the top and I know the food wasn't his fault at all. Thank goodness the food is decent; the service is horrible. No one at front desk, seat yourself in bar area, 15 minutes before anyone came with menu, and took drink order. Was the bartender himself. Very polite. Chips and salsa arrived 15 minutes afterward. Iced tea, came 10 more minutes. Order came to table 40 minutes after being seated. Hardly anyone in the restaurant. Inexcusable. Macho man waiter flirting with female waitresses. Lilly should train her employees better. Very unprofessional. Have been going there several years, most likely won't be returning. I am married to a Latina and eat Mexican food all the time in the Houston area. This is by far the best Mexican food I have had dining out. The chips and salsa are delicious and the food was served very fast but taste amazing. Highly recommend this place. I saw were some people were complaining of slow service but they must have fixed it. My items were delivered so fast it was awkward lol. read more

I drove to Temple to visit the old homestead. By the time I arrived in T-Town, the double-double I'd wolfed down from In & Out in Rockwall had vacated my stomach. I needed a little something to tide me over till morning. So I decided to give the Taqueria Mex tacos a go. OK, so how do you say "yum" in Espanol (other than que bueno)? I ordered lengua (tongue), al carbon and barbacoa. The al carbon was right off the chain delicious. Thin-sliced and done to about as perfect as you can get. The lengua was pretty doggone bueno tambien. As I sat in the drive-through waiting for my order, I could hear the chopping the meat on the other side of the wall. Fresh. For example, $10.99 for carne guisada plate (with rice, beans) and they only give you two tortillas which are so small you can hardly fit anything in them. Just plain bad the last two times I've been. The sour cream chicken enchiladas were spoiled to the point where I threw them out. The tortillas for the expensive tacos al carbon have been thick and tough (not fresh). The pico they put in the dish is not enough for one Taco. They have a major issue with guac- the menu states that guac comes with the tacos al carbon and we have pointed this out to them to no avail. Instead they charge u extra for it and on this past visit, despite me asking for it, they did not include it in my order - even though I paid extra. I called and placed an order for pickup I was told it would be 20 - 30 minutes I said that's fine and drove there and waited in the drive through. I get to the window and the lady was talking on the cell phone and finally came to help me I told her I called in an order she immediately said "I don't have any call I'm orders " I showed her my call log and she was just rude saying "I just said I have no call in orders " finally I said well can I place an order she said I guess go ahead so I gave my order and she charged me more then normally I asked her about it and she shut the window in my face.
