I couldn't be happier. My personal furniture and belongings were going into a second floor apartment, but my studio was relocating to a 3rd floor finished attic in my new home, and they managed to get some of my heaviest pieces, including a teak storage cabinet of more than 250lbs, and a large light table, up a narrow, winding stairway without one scratch--to the cabinet or the walls! (Something I thought would be impossible. I was prepared to sell the teak cabinet if, as I expected, it simply wouldn't fit up the stairs to the attic.) Joe was super accommodating and helped us in a pinch. They came right on time and did their best to move items carefully and efficiently. Moving sucks, we all know that, but when you add on a moving company that makes you CRY, that's not helpful. Metrosexual movers had me in tears for a long (11hrs long) moving day. I did the research, I made the calls, I read the reviews and everything I could find was "thumbs up" for these guys. They were great on the phone, funny in email, smooth and cool website: I thought I'd found my guys. Then moving day happened. I moved from a 3rd floor triple-decker in Somerville to the same in Cambridge and it took DOUBLE their time estimate even though I sent a detailed list of my home contents. They broke things, the dawdled, there were only 2 guys for $160/hr, and with every passing hour all I could do was think of how much it was costing me and how distraught I was at my really bad choice. They made me never want to move again. And next time I do, I'll use Precision.... I've used them before and should have used them this time. Just read Joe's response, and am puzzled. If you give him the benefit of the doubt, he's confused about which customer I am. After seeing this yelp page, I have a bit of trouble believing he's just confused. Especially in light of him repeatedly ripping on yelp reviewers who give bad reviews and calling himself the "creative director" amongst several other titles. This is just a moving company, right? As opposed to his absurdly inaccurate recollection, I don't have car seats, booster chairs, or a TV. There wasn't an elevator in either building (maybe you recall the move was from a first floor to a one level storage facility?), I coordinated the entire move (not my "wife"), and spent the last three hours helping unload the truck with Joe and the other mover including the hour Joe spent folding his mats. Not sure you were cut out for customer service Joe. I know you like to wear all the management hats, but probably worth outsourcing that one. read more

I wish I could join the bevy of lady ravers on this one but after the over-priced jaunt, I don't think I can. So merits of the organization, they are well-spoken, affable enough, and possess the equipment to make a move possible. Joe and I corresponded over e-mail and drilled down a 'figure' based on the number of predicted hours the process would take. Needless to say the job was done, with some unnecessary comments on age guessing. Yes my roommate and I are Asian and look delightfully young, get over it. The only reason we hastened the process was thanks to the aid of my then boyfriend. They billed us for time they spent in the truck wrapping up blankets, long after furniture had been moved. Fancy that. I can appreciate what they do, how they do it and even their marketing strategy. I don't appreciate the dawdling to extend time. read more

I have moved many times in my life. My last move was from a 2200 square foot home in CT to an apartment in Boston. I was charged less for that move than my current move from Cambridge to Arlington. It took the two guys 5 hours to move15 pieces of furniture.Yes, five hours! At one point I said what is taking so long. Oh, we are prepping the truck. What does that mean. "prepping the truck". I also got charged an extra 1/2 hour for a 5 min problem with the elevator in the building I was moving out of. I never thought that I had to ask a mover to be sure the carpet is covered so that no mud or dirt is brought in to my "new" apartment. By the time they left the rugs were filthy with mud. I asked what are you going to do about the rugs. Oh, just wait till the mud dries and vacuum it up. I believe from past experience that the movers are responsible for making sure the rugs, carpets and floors are just as clean as when they arrive. Especially if they want you to use them again or recommend them to your friends. So, would I recommend them yes, if you have an extra 5 hours in a day and money that is just burning a hole in your pocket. I also made sure that they were well hydrated and fed. I am sure I was charged for the time it took them to drink and eat the bagel. Oh than they had the audacity to try to make more money off me by selling me a Metrosexual t shirt. I had a great experience with Metrosexual Movers back in April, when I worked with them to move my friend's stuff, so I hired them to move my stuff. It was really a great experience overall. I've never had a move that was so un-stressful. In fact, like some reviewers have suggested, it was fun. Hard to believe - but it went smoothly, and Joe and Xavier were pleasant, polite, helpful, efficient, careful, and funny. I had been thinking that I don't have any expensive stuff (which I don't), and that thus that it wasn't worth it to hire careful movers - but I realized that I do care about a lot of my stuff, and I want it well-cared for - which it absolutely was, and I was glad. Joe (when asked) even gave really helpful suggestions as to where furniture might go, and why, which I really wouldn't have thought of. They went above and beyond in more ways than I can mention. I'm really glad that I hired Metrosexual Movers and I absolutely recommend them for a smooth move. (Though, unlike the previous reviewer, I can't attest to their smells.... which I guess is ok with me. In any case, I'm sure they smell great.) read more

I've been meaning to write a review of these guys for a while. I first used MM in 2010 when moving from Brighton to JP. They were prompt, speedy and even helped to cut my box spring when it didn't fit up the stairs (tho I had to run to the hardware store to buy a little saw...I think they know better now to bring their own tools :)) In 2011 I was moving again to another part of JP. Sadly, my email got lost in the shuffle of September moves and they didn't contact me back when I emailed in July. I had help that year and kind forgot I had emailed them and Joe wrote me a very sweet apology letter when he realized he had put my email to the side and hadn't followed up. In 2013, I moved again to another part of JP. This time I had more furniture than I felt like moving with friends so I wrote to Joe who was happy to help. Again, they were efficient and awesome. It was a unusual 95 degree May afternoon so I was glad for their help and even bought them a pizza for their efforts. I have found their prices to be reasonable and their estimates accurate WHEN you are honest with the amount of stuff you have. I'm moving again this summer (hopefully the last one in a while) and I am using them again. I gave them the full gamut of my furniture (waaay more than last year) and opted to move boxes myself to save on cost. The stairs are going to be a pain in their ass getting to this second floor apartment but I know they'll work as efficiently as they can. At the end of the day, these guys are sweating so I don't have to, and I love and respect them for their work. See you in August, gentlemen! read more

These guys are great! They moved me the day of Hurricane Irene...well, in the afternoon. They called me back within the hour, gave me a great quote, and met me 10 minutes later. Joe was really nice and his assistant was great too! All my stuff was already in a truck, so they just unloaded my stuff and took it up one flight of stairs. Next time I move, I will definitely call them again. Joe offers very good service for a reasonable price... you'll be glad you chose him. He honors his commitments (and won't commit if he can't do it--much to the chagrin of a couple of his "customers" who have posted bogus 1-star yelp reviews), and he believes in honesty and fairness above all else. I'd never required moving assistance before, but when I found out my new third floor apartment often requires hoisting of furniture items up to a balcony, I decided not to recruit any of my wimpy librarian friends to assist this time. Joe and Jason were great! I don't have a car so couldn't do a whole lot of moving on my own, though I did rent a zipcar to transport my dogs and foodstuffs. My apartment was a studio/1BR. The pricing ended up being only slightly more than the estimate, and that was my fault as I arrived to the new apartment behind them with the keys due to a parade detour and getting slightly lost. All of my stuff arrived intact and was handled carefully. The couch that I thought needed to be hoisted up to the balcony actually fit up the stairs, with some clever maneuvering on their part. I'm hoping I don't have to move again anytime soon, but if I do I'd certainly use their service again! Both movers were friendly and professional, and I'd recommend them to anyone I know. read more

I had a very smooth move with Joe and Terence. These guys are tough, careful, well organized and don't drag their feet. They emailed me the night before saying they were ready to Rock n Roll , showed up early and we moved a 1 bedroom apartment in about 2.25 hours -trip included. We brought stuff from the first floor and delivered to new address to the first floor. That said, I prepared everything very nicely, and all they had to do is go in and out. My advice to you is to be well prepared, move all the small stuff you need to move by yourself so they don't waste time with carrying stuff you packed in your kitchen bags up and down. ...and of course: Give them a hand if you can because: ...well... time is money when it comes to moving :) They moved some big heavy stuff that took me hours to get inside in just a few minutes. They were professional and fast, and were also kindly able to accommodate a last minute rescheduling when our storage pod delivery was delayed. In my experience, moving is never fun, but I'm happy to report that my most recent move went about as smoothly as I could have hoped. I was looking for help with a smaller move and felt torn between looking for cheap (and potentially unreliable or careless) labor off craigslist, and going with a larger professional moving company. That's when I came across the Metrosexual Movers website. The name alone brought a smile to my face and I began to think there might be hope :-) I figured if they put half as much thought, humor and brains into their moving as they had with their website, I would certainly be in good hands. I read rave reviews of their "alternative" approach to the moving process and decided to give the owner, Joe, a call. He was extremely friendly and professional from start-to-finish. Although they are a fully-licensed professional moving company and typically handle larger moves, when I explained my particular situation, Joe was flexible and accommodating. After we sorted out the details, he called again the day before the move to confirm everything. On the day of, he arrived on time, despite lousy weather and traffic, and the move, itself, was handled quickly, efficiently and with great care. I can't tell you what a relief it was not to have to worry about running late on the clock, hidden moving charges, or damaged furniture. I would happily recommend MM to anyone looking for professional, reliable movers with BOTH brains and brawn :-) read more

Back in March 2011, I was stuck in a situation where I had a PODS container full of furniture and other belongings sitting outside my apartment building with my street permit about to expire the next day. My regular moving guy couldn't make it, so basically I was left with 12 hours to clear out my POD or risk being cited by the City of Cambridge. I called probably half a dozen moving companies and was told--not surprisingly--that they didn't have anyone available. Next on my list was MM3.0. I had spoken to Joe, a co-owner, over two years ago, when he quoted another job for me, and knew he had a good reputation. I did not go with them then due to their price, which was significantly higher than others. However, this time I was desperate. Joe miraculously had the afternoon free, and within two hours was able to get his truck and another guy and be at my door. They then worked long into the evening to help me sort through my family's enormous amount of stuff, since only some of it could fit into our tiny apartment and the rest had to go to storage. They put things where they needed to go and put my son's complicated bed together without any instructions--not everyone can do that (certainly not me!). The rest of the stuff went onto his truck for delivery to the storage facility the next morning. Finally late in the evening (was it midnight? 1:00 am?), the POD was empty and ready for pick up. Joe and his guy showed up again the next morning--on time--and proceeded to fill my storage unit, taking care to use space efficiently and to make sure I could access what I needed. They worked very quickly and were done packing an 8x10 storage space to the brim within about two hours. I initially waffled between giving them four or five stars because I think their prices put them out of reach for many folks. Joe did everything right that day to help me out of a tight spot, which deserves five stars, no question. However, I've also read the negative reviews and believe some of them to be true. In an attempt to be fair and balanced, I have to say this: I believe Joe is a perfectionist who strives to do a great job all the time, but no one is perfect all the time. It seems that he gets defensive when someone believes he hasn't done a good job, probably because he has worked hard to earn their praise and has a hard time accepting that he hasn't done a good job. It doesn't mean he's a malicious crook; it just means he's human. Bottom line: My experience was top notch, for real. MM3.0 is a reputable, reliable moving company, and chances are that you will have a good experience too. read more

Unfortunately I had to move - again - in October. MM packed my truck for a cross-country caravan ending in Austin, Texas. When the movers on the Austin end unpacked the truck they remarked SEVERAL times that they were impressed. They were saying things like "Man - who packed your truck?!" It was surgical. Nothing was broken - and I was driving the rental truck, so that is saying something! Also, I probably got a truck that was one or two feet too small - but they made it work. They made my last (sniff - sob) moments living in Salem fun and made a job I didn't even want to do enjoyable. I will miss MM next time I have to move!!! They are well worth every penny! read more

In the midst of a very stressful day, I felt the only beacon of relief was Metrosexual Movers. I was moving into a large apartment complex in the South End and was told I could access the unit at 1 PM and no sooner as they were turning it over from the last tenant. After explaining the situation to Joe via phone and email, he said no problem, he and his second mover would be there at the appointed time. They were a bit late (Boston traffic on a Red Sox day can be a bear) but as it turned out, they would have been standing around waiting if they had arrived on time anyway as my leasing manager told me the workmen were not done in my apartment. While I argued with her, Joe and his partner quickly and quietly began unloading my mobile storage unit (that of course had to be emptied by 3 PM for the scheduled pick-up) into the hallway. Piece by piece, they essentially moved my belongings out of the storage unit so at the very least it could be removed at the appointed time. Soon after, the carpet installers were complete and the cleaning crew went in. I was told I couldn't get into the unit until 5 PM now but Joe stepped in and spoke with the cleaners about working around each other. "Can you vacuum in the bedroom first so at least we can assemble her bedroom furniture?" They piled boxes in the middle of rooms so they cleaning crew could work around them. Instead of just sitting in the lobby and getting paid to do nothing, they were proactive about finishing the job in the shortest amount of time possible. And when it came time to determine where said bedroom furniture would work best, I asked them to move large bureaus and dressers at least two or three times and they neither complained nor made me feel bad for doing so. In addition to moving and helping me deal with the difficulties presented, Joe also managed to calm my father who was visiting to help with the move. All in all a great experience and I will recommend them to anyone who is moving in and around the Boston area, hopefully not me again any time soon. read more

This review is long overdue, but here goes. The circumstances surrounding my move were somewhat unpleasant, but these guys made it the most painless moving experience of my life. They were so fast, efficient, careful with my stuff, and came right under the estimate. To be honest, the main reason I chose them because they were the only company with availability the day of my move (Sept of last year) that didn't have terrible reviews. I found the whole Metrosexual thing extremely corny so probably wouldn't have booked them if there were other options. But I'm glad that it worked out the way it did because they did a fantastic job. I hope I won't be moving again anytime soon (ugh, fingers crossed, moving is horrible) but when that time comes I'm definitely going to try to book these guys again. read more

This review is ridiculously overdue, as Joe helped my husband and I move into our place back in September...But since he was so helpful and put as at ease in the middle of a highly stressful last-minute move situation, I never forgot about him. Plus, we have his big 'ol orange business magnet still holding up things on our fridge. Had to finally get this one scratched off my to-do list... Joe rocked. Came to our aid at the last minute. We literally called him the day before our moving truck arrived, and we finalized our contract with him the morning of. He was fun to work with...I helped unload only to save on time (and hence money), but Joe and his employee graciously accepted my annoying help with a good dose of humor and friendly chit-chat--all of course which makes a job go much faster. Metrosexual Movers was a great assistance on my moving day. My move was filled with inconvenience's, initially I had to change my move date because I couldnt fly back from outside of the country. Joe happily responded via email, and set a new date. I was not charged any additional cost for changing the date in less then a week of move in date. My second moving date was a snow day. Although, to every mover this can represent the worse situation Joe made it a breeze. Although a slight accident made the team arrive a little late, I was quickly notified of the inconvenience. All my items were moved in the snow, quickly and effecitvely. With Joe's team, no one is standing around, they were basically running down the stairs to get the next item. Not making time to additionally charge you. My move was completed in approximately 4 hours, it was the best experience I have ever had with movers, and next time I have no doubt i will call them again. I would recommend them to anyone. Fantastic experience! This was a multi-stop move in different towns that went vey smoothly. Joe and Jason arrived on time and took very good care of the furniture and boxes, even commenting that they needed to make sure everything was secured properly because of the poor state of the roads after the winter we just had. They brought a couch and loveseat up to a third floor apartment very easily despite the narrow hallways, and didn't even have to hoist it up (which was required for another loveseat that we had). Second time with Joe. We said we would use them again, and we did. This time his assistant was Joe instead of Terence. Again, it went very smoothly. Joe is the master truck packer. And they are very good at getting all of your stuff to where it needs to go without a scratch, even the electronics! We were better prepared, and the move took less time and money as a result. But here is why I wouldn't use anyone else. We were moving into a house with hardwood floors from a house with carpet. Not all of our furniture had pads on the feet to prevent scratching. Joe and Joe actually held up the heavy dresser and insisted I put the felt pads on the dresser before they placed it. I would never be able to do that with anyone else. read more

They accommodated all of my requests (starting at a storage unit in Boston (from where they were willing to make an unscheduled trip to drop off some furniture at a friends), picking up stuff at my old house in NE CT, then an additional stop at the furniture store for some new stuff and then on to the new house near Hartford. I was amazed at how Joe fit all of my crap (which was at least 3 times more than I had estimated) into the truck. Yes, it took longer than expected (again - I waaaaay underestimated my crap, and everything that's difficult takes longer than expected), but Joe and Bat pushed on tirelessly into the night. read more

The only good thing about this company was the marketing and website. EVERYTHING else was very bad. Very expensive service at $160 per hour which I wouldn't have minded paying if I wasn't talked to in such a rude, condescending, obnoxious way by the owner Joel. I actually had to excuse myself to go cry for a minute when he basically yelled at me for forgetting to mention two SMALL tables. A couple small things were broken which wouldn't have been a problem if when confronted he just took responsibility and offered to pay for them. INSTEAD, he told me they must have already been broken prior to his arrival and that he has never broken anything. I would highly recommend NOT USING this service. I believed I was hiring someone who would care about my stuff and me. I feel like I got the exact opposite. read more

Wow. Just got done arguing with Joe from Metrosexual Movers, which ended with him hanging up on us. All started well: we asked about availability for either tomorrow or Saturday, and he called back and said first thing tomorrow would work. Unfortunately, the truck reservation we have is for 9am, and we wanted to schedule so there was plenty of time in case things go wrong with UHaul (which has happened to us before around Sept 1.) Joe was not flexible about the start time, because he didn't want to make it difficult to schedule other potential moves around ours. He even tried to shame us about not wanting to do it early (I made the mistake of telling him my husband works nights so later in the morning is better in general - which he repeatedly implied meant my husband was lazy or something.) He said we were "putting our needs above the needs of the collective whole." Jeepers, man. We are just trying to schedule movers to help US with OUR move. The whole time, he talked about three times more than he listened, which is never a great strategy, and he was upset that we "were thinking about it wrong" and "were undermining his expertise." He takes himself very seriously, you guys. When we gave up on tomorrow, and said, okay, how about any time on Saturday, he didn't want to schedule that in case more lucrative jobs appear before then. All of this after initially telling me that "unlike other movers, who may not show up if they get a better job, we make a commitment to you." Essentially he wanted to hedge his bets the same way. Ultimately he ended up arguing with my husband after I couldn't handle his pressuring us about time, and finished the conversation telling my husband that "he clearly has issues." Oh yeah, but they "have the best service in the area." Service includes communication and flexibility. Despite a recommendation from a friend, and what I'm sure is good moving service assuming you work on his schedule, I am happy not to be moving with Metrosexual. After looking at how he has dealt with other negative reviews in the past, I fully expect Joe to reply to this with something long, defensive, and snarky. Go for it. But I figured our experience was worth sharing, too. read more

I'd heard good things about these guys and wasn't disappointed. I asked Metrosexual Movers to help me pack for a one way, out-of-state move. I really didn't think I had that much stuff (one room and some extra bits?) but actually had a ton of goods that just HAD to fit into a 5x8 foot uhaul. Joe, the owner of MM, packed that trailer like a skilled surgeon performing major surgery. And it all fit. I thought I'd have to cut a few things but got to bring it all! I'm a service-oriented gal, so I hired MM to make the out-of-state drive with me. Good driving, excellent unpacking at the destination, and everything arrived in perfect condition. MM quoted me a fair price--maybe a bit more expensive than some, but the service they provided went above and beyond--I felt well taken care of at the beginning AND the end of the move. Possibly the best moving experience I've ever had. These guys definitely spoiled me with their careful attention to detail. Sounds like reviewer Kelly O was having the worst kind of moving day (sorry about your pup, girl) but I found these guys to be friendly, accommodating and professional. This was my first move of many where I finally broke down and hired movers. I'd used up all my favors from my friends and family and I finally had enough "stuff" to justify spending the money. MM has had great press (other than on Yelp*) and there pricing was moderate amongst my other quotes. What sold me was their upfront customer service. Joe was very attentive and eager to answer any questions even before I booked them for my move, the other companies- not so much. The two horses, I mean men, I booked for $160/hr (Joe and Brendan) showed up promptly at 9:30 and proceed to walk through my space determining what was coming and staying. I had forgotten a considerable amount of "small stuff" but they managed to squeeze it all into the 24ft truck and very carefully. These two were non-stop. They didn't even sit to eat the sandwiches we had ordered. I bite here and there, a sip of water every few minutes but they were hustling to much to break for lunch. In the end, the move took a little longer than anticipated, but I blame that completely on my having misrepresented my inventory. Who knew I had so much crap in my basement. This company filters negative reviews in order to provide an artificial sense of customer satisfaction. On the "filtered review page" the owner argues that negative reviews are fabricated by rival companies. Perhaps some are; I can attest that mine was not. I can prove that I worked with this company and had a terrible experience of being taken advantage of, grossly overcharged and subsequently harassed and personally insulted. As I based my selection of this company on positive reviews from Yelp I do believe it is important to convey that such positive reviews do not reflect the genuine customer experience of Metrosexual Movers. Some of the other "filtered" reviews name Joe LaRoche and his employees by name and do indeed sound informed, experientially-based and fully legit. This company is manipulating customer feedback to convey a better business image than they actually earn. Be aware that Metrosexual Movers is an unethical and coercive company. If this review is filtered then the manipulation I have flagged will be confirmed. read more
