The cafe is a well designed and well thought out space complimented with regularly rotated art but brought down a peg with fake flowers and knickknacks. The tables / couches fit in the space nicely and are interspersed with bookshelves and racks of periodicals. The place is clean, like really clean; however it's not as sterile as many coffee joints in big, new, spray-on facade buildings. The offerings are spare; your standard coffee, espresso, tea, bottled drinks and pastries. Coffee is good; Herkimer from Seattle, I believe. They obviously take pride in preparation, but not consistently; I've had a couple shots I abandoned mid-demitasse. Beyond coffee drinks... it's there, it's decent. Service varies from luke warm to friendly. I'm not a huge fan of an employee only poking his head up from a laptop when you come to the counter. Please, just bend over backwards, glance up from ebay and thank me for coming in. It gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling. One time, an employee from the other location was impressive; we talked, she flexed some barista skills, she made me happy to come pay money for hot imported bean water. It takes 8-9 atmospheres of pressure to correctly extract money from my wallet. Speaking of, I'm glad I carry cash cuz they don't take plastic Overall, the place is nice, seems to fit the needs of its customers and its neighborhood well. Good location, internet, respectable coffee, and OMG I can bring my doggy in and he can have a treat (if I had a dog). read more

I had a meeting there last night and was expecting fantastic coffee. I mean if you choose not to accept credit cards, you should have damn good coffee. Meh. It wasn't the best. It definitely didn't have any mocha in my mocha and you can't use a credit card. I just don't carry cash. Sorry. I don't know many people who do. It did get two stars for free wifi, nice decor, easy parking, and chill staff. However, the music was blaring and not very conducive to being comfortable. Really, it was just meh. read more

Something about this coffee is just right on time. Awesome, and unique flavor, classy presentation, cheap, and properly loaded in ratio milk to espresso. Kudos to this place. Cheers! read more

This is a great cafe for studying or doing work. They don't have lots of wall outlets, but they have lots of power strips. Great prices; nice, quiet, and clean atmosphere; and lots and lots of seating. The bathroom seems to be a shared bathroom with other businesses in the building; it's super clean, but the hallway you have to walk through to get to it is slightly echo-y and creepy. Anyway, still an awesome cafe. read more

This is just everything you want in a coffee shop. It's cute and cozy, friendly service, and of course delicious coffee. Pretty latte art doesn't hurt. It's bright enough to work in here but there's also some nice spots you could cozy up with a book. read more

I am in love with the coffee here. Herkimer coffee from Seattle- it is my favorite coffee of all time. I love the flavor, how smooth it tastes and it isn't too bitter. I do have a favorite barista's coffee- whenever he makes it, I swear it's better than any other day! The staff is great here. Always friendly, never acts too busy or cranky and it makes a very laid back atmosphere. Often offer to just give me a free coffee, since I'm not ordering anything fancy, just a cup of coffee. While others describe it as a community living room, it really reminds me of libraries at colleges on the east coast- intellectual feeling but comfortable. And with coffee! read more

This place served one delicious espresso beverage. They hold to the classic conception that less is more with their beverage offerings, with cappuccinos and lattes "for here" being served in 6 and 8 ounce cups, although for all you Starbucks raised 'Mericans out there you can get your 24 ouncers as well. They have their osmosis water filter on the wall for display to put the purists at ease. Currently brewing with the beans of a solid roaster out of Seattle, Metropolis hits the spot for us espresso parched quality hunters out there. Keep ballin Metro! read more

Metropolis Coffee - Had to taste the drinks before the picture haha, the latte art was better I promise - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Denver, Colorado

If you have read my coffee post before, you will know that I don't really drink coffee. But they do have other beverages I can enjoy. I will say I am a huge fan of hitting this place up to get some S&*# done. There are a few tables and comfortable chairs for hanging out. Apparently it has a very Seattle feel, but that is probably because the owner is from Seattle. Oh, and they are usually playing some good tunes. So, go, hang out, drink coffee, feel like one of those cool Seattle kids without all the rain. read more

My favorite coffee shop within walking distance of my office, I love how they make the basics. I also like the sizes they offer and pastry selection. My favorite is the chocolate croissant. Yum! Overall, a great independent coffee house in the style I was used to from back in my college days....minus the smoking of course! read more

I used to go there a lot mainly because it was close to my work place. It's pretty quite place to get some work done and sip some coffee. Their coffee quality is not superb, but I don't think anyone expect it to be! From what I observed most people go there for work meetings or just writing a few emails. And I must add the prices are a bit cheaper than nearby coffee places! read more

I like the espresso here so much that I have yet to stray from my Americano order. The espresso is so rich and delicious. They redecorated and got rid of the shelves filled with books. I miss those, but the space is still nice--warm colors and now more open, just not quite as cozy as before. It always makes me smile when a business thinks of our canine friends, and there are free dog biscuits near the side door. I'm a fan, and my dogs would be too if they had the chance to take a stroll in this neighborhood. read more

Stopped in this morning for a latte and an iced tea. Pretty enjoyable overall. The staff was friendly, and when I had questions about the cold brew I was offered a sample. There was limited seating when we went in, as there were 5 people on laptops spread out across the tables. Id like to go back when the weather warms up more and enjoy some coffee on the patio! read more

My mom and I were on our way to the art museum (a popular hangout for us gals) and thought that we should have a cup of coffee and relax for a bit before the museum opened. We headed over the Metropolis Coffee because it was relatively close and because neither of us had been there before. We were warmly welcomed by the barista and casual atmosphere. We sat down with our well-made lattes in a sunny corner and chatted. The seats were comfortable, the temperature was right on, and the music was fantastic. This definitely looked like a quiet local favorite and I can see why. read more

Came here on our way back to the airport after a weekend of skiing. We looked up Parsley (the soup/sammie place across the street) and decided we had time to go out of our way for some good organic/vegetarian eats. Looked across the street and saw Metropolis and decided we'd swing by. Great coffee. I love their menu- very simple. We had a cortado (great, I'd compare it with the cortado at Asado here in Chicago, which currently has my heart for top coffee shop) and a giant shortbread cookie. Even though it looked like a supersized Walkers shortbread, it wasn't as rich or buttery which was good news as we would have surely died if it had been. It was delicious and went great with the cortado. Comfy ambiance, nice atmosphere. I'll be back here the next time I'm in Denver! read more

I was in GTC Saturday morning so I decided to drop into this Metropolis location (I usually go to the LoHi one) and really, you can't ask for more than getting in and out with an almond milk latte to go in about two minutes flat. Plus both the cashier and the barista were so very friendly. Bravo! read more

Metropolis Coffee - Interior of Metropolis Coffee - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Excellent coffee. Friendly staff, living room atmosphere. Unpretentious. 5 stars. I dont know of I've ever seen a triple water filter before. Obviously a custom job concocted by obsessive freaks. Places like Metropolis raise the bar on Denver's coffee house scene. An additional note: this review is for the 11th and Cherokee location. But I do want to point out that metropolis has improved the service at what was once Happy Coffee Broadway. That was a pretentious place. Metropolis and has un-snobified that experience as well. read more

I am not sure why there is such a disconnect every time I visit this coffee shop. Its a shame because its across the street from my work. The staff are rude and last time I came in, I waited while two employees just chatted. Not only are the staff rude, they seem to purposely make you wait for whatever reason. It is down right unprofessional and reflects directly on the managers and owners of the establishment. read more

Great atmosphere (decent music and great people watching) and very friendly baristas. The serve real-live-awful for you donuts and great pastries. Don't forget your greenbacks, because they don't take plastic. FAR superior that the 15 starbucks within shooting distance! read more

In my mind, the quality of the coffee makes or breaks any coffee establishment. I went here for the first time today while visiting an architect friend over in the Golden Triangle as he suggested a cuppa java was in order. We went to Metropolis as it is directly across the street from his office. Cool interior, nice chairs and tables. Excellent wifi signal that permeates the space. Reasonably priced pastries and other small noshy items. Service was pleasant and efficient. The coffee was a bit bitter. I don't mean bitter in a roasted coffee bitter, but a bitter in a weird way. My caffeine partner likewise had an oddly bitter cup of coffee. He said that he has never had a bad cup of coffee here so I am thinking that we got a bad bag of bean. Were it in my neighborhood, I would definitely patronize such an establishment. read more

Metropolis is a gem. It is definitely one of the best coffee shops in Denver. Metropolis provides a great atmosphere, engaging Baristas, and killer Herkimer espresso drinks through their classy La Marzocco. The owner Brock is about as nice a guy as you will ever meet. I'll admit that I have not yet tried their drip coffee, but I still confidently give them 5 stars on their competition grade caps and cortados. The casual feel can comfortably house professional interviews side by side with old friends catching up. As an experienced coffee enthusiast and Barista, Metropolis more than makes the cut. If you haven't had the pleasure, treat yourself! read more

Metropolis serves the best espresso in Denver hands down. I am a big fan of high-quality coffee and really like Novo and Kaladi Brothers coffee too, but this is always consistently better than anywhere else. Yes, it's not roasted in Denver, but is instead from Herkimer Coffee in Seattle, but who cares because it still tastes better. It's always extremely flavorful and smooth with no bitterness. It costs slightly more here, but I have no problem supporting quality every day of the week. In regards to the actual shop, it's pretty solid. There is plenty of seating, free wi-fi and since I don't live right down the street, it's great that there's always plenty of free parking in the neighborhood. Oh, they also sell Spruce Confections scones too which are some of the best in Colorado. They charge more for them here than at other coffee houses in Denver which is too bad, but the espresso keeps me coming back. Lastly, the baristas have always been nice every time I have visited. They never seemed pretentious and can pull some pretty mean shots of espresso. Don't miss out on this spot! read more

i ordered a loose leaf tea and hot chocolate. the tea smelled nice but was served way, way too hot and burned the roof of my mouth even after I waited 5mins to drink it. the barristas were also really snobby ‍ read more

We stumbled across this during a bike ride and decided to grab some food and coffee. Service was great but they didn't have a grill. Pretty much pastries and donuts, but they did have a few empanadas left over from the breakfast rush. We had 3 types: a spinach, an egg, and a meat (called tengo). All were very good but would have been better if they were warm. They didn't have a dark roast coffee on their menu, but they offered to brew the espresso bean over a slow drip. We opted for the americano. Very smooth and we were able to get flavoring in one. We had a nice spot outside to eat but not much of a view. Overall a good coffee shop close to our hotel. I would recommend. read more

My all-time favorite coffee place! Great Herkimer coffee from a small time Seattle company, friendly folks and good atmosphere. Very comfortable space with great wifi. I spent many, many hours here when I lived in the area - I can dedicate my good grades in grad school to Metropolis... I heard someone describe Metropolis as the 'community living room,' a description I find very appropriate. Great sandwiches and pizza across the street too that you can bring over - If I did not move back to Seattle, I would have never left this place! read more

I created a Yelp account just to review this place. It has a really great barista who gave me a free donut since they were about to close and even tried giving me more free food and coffee since they were closing. Great atmosphere in a fantastic area of Denver. It has a great patio though it was a bit cold for that today. Great vibe, well worth a walk in read more

Metropolis Coffee - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Walking through the doors of Metropolis is a pleasant surprise. From the exterior, I was anticipating a cold, modern-style coffee shop, yet what I found was an incredibly warm and welcoming coffee-shop. They have somehow managed to make the large, loft like interior feel cozy. The walls are painted with rich, earthy colors, and they have a great mixture of cute little tables and comfy couches. The walls are lined with bookshelves filled with vintage style novels. The menu is pretty straightforward, and they have a pastry case filled with goodies. I ordered an iced soy chai and a raspberry scone. The chai was perfect. Not too sweet, just a perfect balance of soy and chai. The scone was delicious, and I'm picky about scones. Overall a really fantastic coffee shop. I was pleasantly surprised, and will definitely return. On a side note, they don't take credit cards, so have some cash ready. read more

Here is the honest truth. I am addicted to coffee. Seriously addicted. On my early mornings (Ahem! 9:30 IS early all you nay sayers!!) as I zoom at warped speed toward Speer I occasionally make a b-line for some joe. Said b-line is usually Metropolis. It is easy, it is fast, and the medium coffee with room is super-dee-duper!! Plus, it seems to me that Metropolis has ignored the pretentious employee thing that some coffee shops seem to have going. read more

This is a cozy spot for anyone to escape the noise of a hectic day. Whether it's a meeting or a haven for peaceful reading and thinking - this is a warm, inviting business in the Golden Triangle. Metropolis Coffee doesn't look fancy, but the coffee they make here is the best I've found in the Denver downtown. No, they don't make green tea mocha freeze milkshakes, but that's not actually coffee, you know. They have all the basics, plus they make nice strong coffees with non-whipped plastic milk. Yay! And convenient to the convention center, just 3 blocks up at 17th st, if, like me, you are stuck here for some work thing, that's important. Plus, I got to hear an 80s-faded denim jacketed regular order, "a mocha for the missus, please." read more

If I lived in Denver, this would be my daily coffee. This place is so nice, quiet and chill. Everyone is super friendly, see a pattern here folks? I came here on a Sunday morning expecting insanity and instead, I was one of 3-4 people inside the place. Beautiful room as well. read more

I was worried I would be stuck with Caribou and Starbucks for morning coffee (or coffee at all, for that matter); thank goodness for Metropolis. Every drink I've had here has been fantastic - quite honestly the best latte in Denver. It's laid-back, almost always empty (which sometimes leads me to wonder how they stay open for business), and the baristas are friendly, in spite of their mad skills. It feels like one of those places that seems to be a rarity downtown: a neighborhood coffee shop. read more
