Having lived in NYC for about two decades. One gets familiar with what a Diner should be. If you are in Manhattan, Long Island, or the Hudson Valley a diner is a comfortable place where you can get anything from Eggs Benedict to Steak and Lobster. The food and service is great and if it isn't which is rare, you let your NYer come out and you never go back. Luckily those experiences were rare. Stopped by this morning for breakfast. I was warmly greeted and promptly seated. My very friendly server Tayla was very helpful with the menu and specials. Doesn't hurt either that she resembled Fiona from Shameless. I ordered coffee and orange juice they were quickly delivered. The coffee is very good as was the OJ. I ordered the hash and eggs with white toast. She delivered my breakfast lightning fast. The hash was delicious and the eggs perfectly poached. The toast was of a very good quality and perfect for yolk dipping. This establishment is the perfect example of a well oiled machine. It opened just a day or so ago and clearly everyone knows what they are doing. I always say that extensive pre launch training is a must. I will definately be back to try lunch and dinner. read more

So let me get the negative out of the way. Our service. We gone in on a weeknight an hour before closing. Host sat us, and we were greeted shortly there after by our waitress. The restaurant had customers, but was not busy. Bottom line, she took our order and brought us our drinks. Didn't see her for a while. She was talking to another customer or off-going worker. We saw our food on the counter ready to be taken, but I am not sure. Eventually the host brought us our food. No refills for my boys or anything like that. OK. Done with the truly negative. The food? Really, really good. With a few exceptions. The fried chicken? So good. I've had better in only a few places. I would put this chicken in my top 10. The skin was was crispy and not over fried. The salt was just enough. My issues with the chicken? It was a little undercooked. There was pink at the bone near the joint. I unfortunately do this all the time at home, so I was not truly worried. But this is a restaurant. This should not be. I don't send food back, and I am still here to write this review, so I did not die. Just be aware. It was supposed to be hit with a sweet/spicy sauce? I didn't taste sweet or spicy. The chicken was fantastic (minus the pink) as was. And the biscuit that came with? Never had a harder/stale biscuit. The cheeseburger? Again, a great burger. Good toppings. BUT again, under cooked. My wife asked for medium rare, and that is not what she got. It was red/pink and fleshy. No, didn't send it back. Yes, she is still alive. But this event has me ordering burgers medium everywhere I go from now on. The BLT club? Fantastic. The bacon had a great smoke taste to it. If you get the BLT, you won't be disappointed. And finally, the chicken pot pie. Great, great, great, stick to your ribs meal. My son loved it, and ate it all before I had a chance to taste it. Now you are saying, "you've identified some pretty not good things there Dan!" I think it was the Quality Control or lack there of. I think on any other night, the things I experienced would not occur. I chalk this up to being the end of the night. If I went there again, and it happened again, I would change this up. Terrible quality and creepy waiters. Ordered the chicken salad sandwich and the chicken salad was crunchy and seemed to have bones in it.

We have been here about 4-5 times. We like the food but we REALLY wanted to try the chicken fried steak. Well, we finally got some and it was worth the wait! Just kidding. It was extremely over cooked and it looked like they use a miniature spoon to put gravy on it (see picture). Or they ran out and scraped the bottom of the gravy pot. Or their recipe calls for covering 1/10th of the food. It was tough to chew, but I was so hungry I just gnawed through it til I couldn't take it any more. The food is usually good. It is VERY busy on the weekends. But maybe don't get the chicken fried steak. read more

Used the bathroom and was disgusted to see that, despite this being right at opening, nothing was cleaned. Floors filthy with urine and toilets nasty. Came in on a Saturday and was seated right away even thou it was busy . Our waitress Jamie was awesome. She was quick to bring our drinks and didn't rush us with our orders . I had the veggie omelet which was packed full of veggies and cheese heavy on cheese I might add . The English muffin was hard as a brick thou but I worked my way thru it . The hash browns were also nicely done . My friend tried the eggs Benedict which she enjoyed . The portions are large and not that expensive. I've been here 4 times. The food is always plentiful and good. There is a bit too much salt in the chicken beast that goes on the sub. Otherwise, very good. The waitresses are not very good, they forget part of the order or its the wrong order. The one waitress we had that was really good was Amy. I think that was her name. She had a lot of tattoos. The fried chicken was delicious--fresh, crispy, juicy. The fried chicken was not boneless, so I ate it with .y hands. That said, I ate the waffle quarters by hand also, just dipping it in the syrup. The staff is sweet and very helpful (CUDOS to Pam's very attentive service) and the desserts divine, also HUGE, SHARABLE and change daily. Great Breakfast! Great coffee! I had "Blueberry crêpes" stuffed with cream cheese and topped with blueberries and whipped cream. Wow was it good! My wife had coffee and a "Stuffed peach hallah French toast". My wife liked her entrée very much. The service was great and our food came out just like we ordered it! The manager/owner came to our table to ask us how we liked our food. We told him that it exceeded our expectations. The management of this place is apparently rotten to the core. I had left a prior review explaining how I had walked in and was told a specific booth was "closed for social distancing." Then, one minute later, the hostess sat her friends in that spot. The managing partner of this restaurant then commented on my review, saying she "understood my frustration with changes made during the pandemic." No, it is clear you don't understand at all. My comments had absolutely nothing to do with changes made during a pandemic. They had to do with employees enforcing these changes inconsistently and in a way that insults people. A change made during a pandemic would be keeping a booth closed, and making sure ALL customers comply with that. Fine, cool. I approve! But that's not what happened here. In this case, certain customers were asked to comply while others were given special treatment. Not a pandemic issue, but a SERVICE issue. And for the GM to not see that is unprofessional and ridiculous. read more

4am hunger pains brought me to Metro Diner. Arrived around 10:20am on a Saturday to find the place packed and me taking the last seat before they went on a wait. Specials are located on the blackboard on the back wall. I saw two things, lemon blueberry pancakes/waffle and the Sicilian scramble. Just what the body needed! Lemon blueberry waffle was moist not dry at all. Waffles and pancakes come topped with a lemon sauce. No need for syrup, even though I added a taste, cause it's a waffle lol. The Sicilian scramble is a bowl of hash browns, scrambled eggs, marinara sauce, peppers and onions, and topped with two Andouille sausage links. Let's dig in: The marinara wasn't thick like spaghetti sauce, had to been homemade, and the onions and peppers were small diced so it married real well. Eggs and hash browns were basic. Never would have put Andouille sausage and marinara together, but the andouille brought it all together. Would recommend that you try it if your in the mood for something different. Logan, our server was very friendly and kept the coffee coming. Metro Dinner is a win in my books anytime for anything. read more
