    Breakfast Sandwich

My wife and I were driving down the road on our way to another restaurant and we saw all the cars in the parking lot for this one. Thinking if it was that popular it had to be good, we decided to give this one a try. SO glad we did! Great service and great food in a Mom and Pop diner. My wife had the best tuna melt that she's had in years , she said. My ham cheese and egg breakfast sandwich with simple but delicious! On a sidenote I loved all of the photos of military veterans on the wall. This was a great find and we will be back!

Umpa's Diner- Merritt Island, FL- 2 Stars Reading the name on my random name generator, I metaphorically wiped my brow. After a run of Italian joints, I was in need of a good ole fashioned American diner, and just my luck, Umpa's Diner in Merritt Island popped up. The drive up was a given spectacular journey as you just can't beat the scenic drive up the island especially when you get to the zero lot line commercial district with zero growth planning. After being seated I was introduced to my waitress, the owner, Michelle. Michelle is extremely pleasant and informed me she had been here for 10 years. That deserves a shout-out as the restaurant business is a fickle wench and surviving 10 years (including a pandemic) should be congratulated, regardless of the slop they are slingin'. Thankfully, I got my order of a Tuna melt with fries and two eggs, corned beef hash, home fries, biscuit and a griddle cake, before Michelle was called away to attend to other duties and was replaced by an inattentive, Bogdanoff looking emo named Christina. I wish Michelle had been able to remain my wait staff, but alas, that is not how the cookie crumbled in this case. After snapping a few requisite snapshots of my fodder, grabbed the tuna melt and commenced to the job in hand. The toast was grilled in margarine, so I have to give some points for that, however, the tuna itself was bland, unseasoned and did not taste exceedingly fresh. It wasn't bad, mind you, it just didn't have the fresh made-to-order taste. The fries were of your average frozen variety. Moving on to the order of breakfast staples, I found neither the potatoes nor the corned beef hash exuding much in the seasoning department (reminiscent of the Tuna Melt). I understand not wanting to overly salt and pepper your goods before shipping them out, but all three foodstuffs mentioned should have some flavoring. The eggs were average, however, the big conundrum here was the biscuit. It tasted okay but clearly frozen. Michelle might be getting frozen biscuits and other foodstuffs from Sysco, but I can at least attest to the fact that the biscuits are on the higher end. The Johnnycake was thin and flavorless, nothing to write home about. Umpa's Diner is like hundreds of greasy spoons across this great land of ours that appeal to the lowest common denominator. This place will certainly never win any James Beard Awards (or any other culinary award for that matter), but if you just scraped up $2.00 from your couch cushions or a passing stranger, this would be a King's breakfast. The Big Boy says, "I don't know what Umpa means, as I looked in every foreign dictionary I could find. Apparently, it means BAD FOOD STAY AWAY." #bigboydiningout #bigboy

Good food and good people! What else is there! God bless! Patriotic pictures of our veterans lined the walls!

We had a great breakfast here. I highly recommend this family owned diner. Very friendly staff.

I've eaten at a lot of restaurants in my life, but nothing compares to the experience we had. Yes,…read morethe food was phenomenal. Yes, the ambiance was perfect. But let's be honest: this place runs on one thing and one thing only, Josh. From the moment we sat down, Josh didn't just "serve" our table. He orchestrated it. The man moves like a hospitality ninja. Water glasses never dropped below the halfway mark. Empty plates disappeared as if teleported. He anticipated our needs before we even knew we had them. At one point, I casually considered ordering another drink, and somehow Josh was already walking toward the table with it. Telepathy? Probably. When we asked for recommendations, he didn't just list menu items, he delivered a passionate, Oscar-worthy monologue about flavor profiles, textures, and life-changing sauces. We ordered exactly what he suggested, and I'm convinced my taste buds ascended to a higher plane. If Josh told me to try something I've sworn I'd never eat, I'd trust him without hesitation. The food itself? Incredible. Perfectly cooked, beautifully plated, and clearly crafted with care. But somehow it all tasted better because Josh brought it to the table. I'm not saying he seasoned it personally... but I'm also not ruling it out. He handled a packed dining room with the calm confidence of someone who was born for this. Other servers were great but it was hard to notice anyone else while witnessing Josh in his element. It felt less like dinner and more like watching a masterclass in hospitality. By the end of the night, we weren't just satisfied customers, we were Josh fans. If this restaurant has any sense, they'll put his face on the menu, the sign, maybe even the building. Five stars for the food. Five stars for the atmosphere. Ten stars for Josh. We'll absolutely be back, mostly to see Josh.

I'm picky about where I have breakfast because when it's local it's often a regular old diner with…read morethe same dishes as other places. Merritt Island Pancake House is different from a typical diner. Even though at first this looks like a low-brow diner, the special touches say a lot. They keep with the islands theme in the decor, dishes, etc. There is a whole wall with colorings from children who have dined here. There yummy dishes with lots of gluten-free options (I had GF lemon blueberry pancakes that were great). Something that impresses me is their fruit choice--blueberries, blackberries, strawberries--instead of the typical cheaper fruits. I was really glad with the eggs because they even taste better (creamier) than a typical diner egg (like possibly cage free brown). Maddie was my server and she was sweet, easygoing, and good with the menu. I'd like to bring my girls here and was glad I tried it.

The chocolate chip pancakes are a must try for chocolate lovers. The inside was huge with two areas for seating, seating outside the restaurant. There are accessible restrooms in the back. The inside was a bit chilly with the fans running, I would recommend bringing a sweater inside if you easily get cold. Overall, a great experience and I recommended checking out this spot if you have a craving for pancakes.
