We weren't sure where to eat so we came to Yelp to find the highest rated places. Since it was right across the way we decided to try it out. We ordered the Mac Stack, the Bold Burger, and the Monti Christo. AND EVERYTHING we touched was delicious!! From the crisp onion rings to the mac-n-cheese to the burgers themselves. Metro Diner is incredible. The service is good, the food is excellent. It is a little expensive, so if you are expecting something comparable to waffle house or IHOP, this is not it. I Love Metro Diner. The chicken and waffles with the signature hot sauce and strawberry butter is my favorite. They give you so much chicken, and it's perfectly cooked. The staff is friendly and attentive. I love the hustle and bustle and cozy atmosphere. I think if I had to mention one think I wasn't fond of, it'd be the staff waiting to bus tables just standing about 2ft behind you the whole time. Loved the initial aesthetic of the restaurant, it has this sort of New York Diner feel. The wait time to be seated was brief and once we were seated we were helped immediately. The overall table experience was decent, though my group was seated outside. Food brought to our table was excellently presented and tasted like heaven. Absolutely fantastic! Went there for brunch after a friend of mine had been telling me how good it was for a while. We were very impressed with the food, atmosphere, portions, price, service, and overall dining experience. One of the best bloody Mary's I've ever had. Mimosa was also great. Ordered the shrimp and grits and it was unlike any shrimp and grits I've ever had. Grits are fried which sounded odd at first but I really wanted shrimp and grits so I gave it a try. I did not regret my decision. They were AMAZING. Portions were huge and it was so filling I could barely finish 1/3 of entree. Service was also impeccable. I had high hopes. All the food online looks great, the food that was up on the hot plate looked great, and the place was packed. I ordered a crab cake Benedict Florentine from the specials board. When it arrived it looked so blah. Just two Benedict's on a huge plate. No side of potatoes or anything. Plain English muffins. The crab tasted somewhat like canned crab. The hollandaise was watery and the menu said it had spinach. I had one spinach leaf between the two eggs. I ordered a side of bacon since I had zero sides just this sad looking plate. And a coffee. $26.50 after a 18% tip. Way over priced for what was on that plate. I don't mind paying the money but please dress that plate up. Add some spinach. Put a side on it. Very disappointed. We had a very good experience at the diner for lunch so we went back for supper. While dining at lunch our waitress, Pinkie explained that if we made two visits in one day we got a discount. What's not to love about that. The food for lunch was great. We both had chili and for supper we both had specials which were Salisbury steak and crab patty green salad. Both were amazing. Accidents happen, but it still sucks walking in to the smell of burning food. The staff was awesome, super friendly! I ordered a Coke, the Monte Cristo sandwich and subbed the fries for a side salad. The sandwich was okay, but you could really taste the oil it was fried in. My coworkers ordered the Chicken Salad Salad and the Chicken Pot Pie. For an area that has few diners, this was top notch. Breakfast was awesome. I hade the blueberry pancakes and the blueberries were fresh, the bacon was crisp and I was a happy girl. I was traveling for a trip and stopped here for breakfast and I must say the restaurant was clean and the food was good but most importantly, the customer service was excellent! I tossed the receipt and I can't remember my waitresses name but she was AMAzing! Food is always tasty and memorable and indeed it can really make or break your day, but the wonderful character of this young lady was wonderful. Having to drive such a long distance and head back home to Florida, I was happy to have such good service before my trip. She was cool and had small talk with me and my mother and guest. She also made sure we enjoyed our meal and that's what it's all about. If I'm back in town, I'm def stopping in. read more

Great place to have a meal !! We were in Dothan for business and had time to kill, Went to Metro Diner !!We are from Panama City Florida!! Our Son lives in Jacksonville Florida!! We had tried the one In Jacksonville Florida and loved it !! Was greeted first off and seated very quickly!! Restaurant was very clean !! Bathroom was Awesome, no sharing have it to yourself !! Waitress was very nice and did a Awesome job We order our breakfast of Eggs, Hashbrowns, Bacon, Pancake and TOAST !! Everything was perfect except the Toast burnt to a crisp. Waitress was bringing our drinks and we were joking and telling her to make sure the cook is not MAD and burning our Toast, well it was our toast and it was burnt to black. Sent it back and they sent Toast that was not browned !! Did not eat it !! Finally got our Hashbrowns !! Other than the Toast and waiting on our Hash Browns, everything was great. I was so disappointed. We travel all over the county for my husband's job and to us a diner means great food. Metro Diner threw diner in the name but it's just a restaurant. I am being generous and adding a star because of COVID 19. I understand all businesses are struggling and working with what they have. This was our first time there. We were seated and handed one paper menu to share. I'm not sure if they were going to throw it away when we were done or what, it was just a piece of paper, yet it was printed with color and resembled what was online in their plastic menus just a very limited menu. What I had seen offered previously was not available. We asked for meat omelets, I chose hash browns and a English Muffin. My husband chose fried potatoes and toast, and he had sausage patties. We asked for butter, jelly and sugar free jelly and syrup. To me there is nothing worst then serving hard butter! How are you supposed to spread it. I didn't receive my sugar free jelly. He did receive his sugar free syrup. We go to eat the food and they had cooked the eggs and then add the toppings we chose after. I have never seen an omelet like that and I don't ever care too. You try to take a bite and you are losing your ingredients! On top of that, by not cooking the ingredients in the eggs they don't stay warm so everything was cold! We were both disappointed. They had plenty of waitresses, and not many people but we had to wave ours down to get a refill. It's sad because I was looking for a place with great food, comfortable and quite to eat after my doctor appointments. This is not it! My suggestion, learn to make an omelette, encourage your wait staff to be friendly. Yes these are crazy times all the more to have them show a smiling face. Even if people can't see them smiling, it will show in their cheeks and eyes. If they say Hi and do you need anything? It hoes further then walk around or standing around. With everyone wearing mask people are along the personal connection and we need to work on that! read more

Great food and even better customer service. We ate dinner there recently and two of us ordered the chicken pot pie. When it came, we ate about 1/4 each and didn't find any chicken, so we lifted the crust and found that it had all been tossed on the top of the filling in the middle of the pies. The waitress saw us looking and let her manager know there may be an issue. He took both off the bill (they were great once we found the chicken) and apologized, explaining that is not how they should have been prepared. My wife had the club sandwich, which was crammed with meat and accompanied by some fresh, crispy fries. We'll definitely be back when we're in town. read more

Pulled into parking lot with over heating vehicle. What a pleasant surprise when my friend and I saw diner sign. While waiting for vehicle to cool down, we ordered lunch. We told waitress that we had never been in a Metro Diner and what had happened to my vehicle. As we were waiting for our lunch, a very nice lady came up to our table and asked "which lady had car problems?" I told her that I did. She smiled and said "mam, lunch is on us". I couldn't believe my ears. It is so sweet and nice that there are still businesses that are thoughtful and helpful to someone who is having travel issues. We were 70 miles from home. I have to eat gluten-free, so I was skeptical of a diner. However, Metro had good great gluten-free menu with a lot of options. It's nice to see a gluten-free menu with more than three things on it. We sat down at 655 and had our food by 705. Absolutely fast, fresh and amazing food. My husbands shrimp and grits was delicious, hot and the gravy was pretty good. My philly cheese steak was extra cheesey and was cooked outstanding. It also came with a pickle, which I always say you aren't at a proper sandwich place if you don't get a pickle with your sandwich. The peach tea was amazing like fresh and perfect! My waitress was outstanding and super sweet and even gave us some ideas on what's the favorites in the place. She was just an amazing waitress.
