My first time at this restaurant by myself. I haven't really been here very often, but I went to the bar and ordered a drink and was given a menu. I ordered my food, enjoyed my drink but was not offered any bread before my meal. I'm quite fond of the bread and oil oil before a meal. Unfortunately to my surprise, I was not offered this. Looking around, the couples that were there, eating or not were given bread. I thought this was surprising. I didn't realize that because I wasn't with a special someone I would be treated differently. My meal was good but my experience was less then expected. It's the little things that make a great experience. In addition to this, I began to notice that certain patrons, based on what they ordered received their utensils pre rolled in a napkin versus placed on a napkin. I don't agree with treatment from the bartender. The last patron I viewed, who was by themselves received bread. I guess I have to order wine to get bread if I'm by myself. Additional, upon paying my bill, I was charged more than what the menu stated for my entree. Not coming back here. read more

I took my family there for my daughters birthday, It was a party of 8 with two small children. We had little necks and baked stuffed oysters as appetizers, the oysters came out cold , the little necks were ok at best. Kids got pasta with butter and all the adult meals were ok. The problem was just after we got home 3 of the 6 of us started throwing up and got severely sick , we determined it was the oysters . Me and my daughter missed work the next day. Our bill was inexcess of $300 and we called them to notify them that there serving bad seafood and they never responded , we called multiple times to speak with the owner . No response, I was very close to being admitted to the hospital for dehydration. I will never step foot in that place again. Beware and stay away. read more

From Fall River not sure why it says York, ME I am giving a one star because it has been piss poor on the last three take out orders but today was the straw that broke the camel's back. Cold pizza and incorrect. Waitress took ownership on the incorrect items which I can appreciate but the two orders before were similar by missing extras and food being cold. Have not sat in the restaurant in a while so it may be different onsite eating. But this time I actually returned the food because strike three and your out. We were so sad when Mesa 21 closed because of the fire. It was one of our regular spots. It took a loooong time but they are finally back. What a great job redoing the inside. It's got a much more contemporary vibe now and there is some extra seating. It's also great to see some of the same faces working there. While the menu has some of the old favorites on it, there are some new options as well. The new boneless wings and spinach and artichoke dumplings are good. We have a tough time ordering anything other than the pizza here. It's a thin crust brick oven pizza. I highly recommend it. Bread is also brought with every meal and it's made fresh in the pizza oven. It's great when dipped in the garlic oil that's on the table. I could make a meal of it. Parking is still an issue here. Be prepared to walk. There's no lot and the streets in the area fill up fast. Welcome back, Mesa 21. I missed you. read more

I've been to Mesa several times. What is consistent is that they are very inconsistent. The service is okay the food is sometimes really good and other times the same dish is not great at all. Their flat bread is not an actual flat bread which I find disappointing. Their cocktails are great sometimes and others not so much. I love the vibe but for now I've recently gone for their Sunday buck a shuck. It's worth a try to hopefully get them on a good day. read more

Every time we come here we find a new favorite menu item. This time we tried the grilled octopus. It was tender and had a tangy flavor. I would rate it as some of the best octopus we have eaten anywhere. The mix of roasted kalamata olives, peppers, and onions was an amazing flavor combo. In our party we also ordered the Portuguese steak sanwidiwhch- which is a must have. My husband ordered the pork and clams, which he said he will getting again next time he comes. Our favorite thing about this place is the amazing flavorful sauces that accompany every dish. Lastly- the service is fast and friendly. We have made some special requests (like extra dipping sauce for the steak sandwich), and they are always happy to accommodate without making you feel like a pain. read more

Mesa 21, in my opinion, has one of the best pizzas in the area. They have their specialty pizza options on the menu but those have a lot of meat toppings that we'd rather not have (to eat a bit more healthily) or combinations that we'd rather pass on (no disrespect meant, just not our taste). Well, no problem, you can choose from a decent list of toppings and build your own. Disclaimer: I am selfish and do not want to share our custom combination. But they are not shy about adding large quantities of what you ask for (be prepared for large quantities of garlic if that is what you choose!) One of our favorite things to do is to order an appetizer and a large (very) pizza and take half of it home. We freeze it and have it with salads when we stay in (yes we do stay in sometimes). I have only ventured past the pizza once and ordered steak tips and these were quite good too. Other tips - appetizers - try the Shrimp Mozambique, the Cod Fish Cakes, or the Buffalo Tenders (ask for the Tenders, which are not on the menu, if you prefer boneless). Give it a try, have an extra Stella, Shock Top, Goose Island, or Sam Seasonal draft, and enjoy. read more

The waitress forgot to put in an entree, we kept trying to get a hold of her but she was busy on her phone at the bar, then when we paid she claimed we shorted the check $20. I have been to Mesa many times before and had great experiences, however, this most recent time I went it was as if everything that could have gone wrong did. I ordered root beer, and the cup that I received was greasy with food all over it, slipping out of my hand. After that, we ordered the dirty fries and were met with wet parmesan cheese on our appetizer plates, assumingely from previous guests at our table. We received a new drink and plates, but the most disgusting thing of all, were the shrimp shells in the $21.00 steak plate we ordered which only comes with egg, steak, peppers, fries, and rice. This was not only volatile knowing that my mother and I had consumed shrimp shells from somebody else's dish before us, but extremely dangerous considering we could have been very sick if we had a shellfish allergy. We thankfully were reimbursed for this meal after waiting nearly ten minutes for our waitress who barely checked in on our table and was unattentative to our needs throughout the night to even notice our discomfort. Our first two inconveniences were met by the hostess, and the final by our server who nearly spilled steak sauce all over my mother's sweater removing the steak plate from our table. Working in the restaurant business as a hostess myself who works extremely hard to ensure all needs are met to guests in the restaurant, and hesitates to bother other restaurant workers over minor issues, I was appalled by my experience. Stopped in for lunch Sunday. First time there nice little place. Ordered the mesa21 steak ,wife had the Salmon and daughter had the chourico and fries. The steak was unbelievably tender one of the best I've ever had but the fries were way to crisp. The Salmon was ok according to my wife. My daughters chourico and chips again the fries were way to crisp and the chourico was way over done to the point where some where almost burned. The service was ok but could have been better. The menu has a good selection and the items are reasonably priced. We split a Portuguese steak pizza and it was more than enough for two. I never leave reviews but I have to give credit where due & hope this gets back to this server: My boyfriend & I travel frequently all over & often realize how uniquely natural / genuine charismatic servers are scarce to come by in New England in comparison to southern /western states. They say everyone has a purpose & is right where they should be at their specific moment in life. Server Josh is exactly that. Its clear he's passionate about serving others & does it with such ease, kindness, & happiness to interact- a rare find in our generation. Patio area is super cute only down fall is that it is acceptable to smoke in the patio area. Total turnoff!!! Especially when a huge group of arrogant men are all squeezed into a 4 person table, sucking away on CIGARS, and swearing like truckers!!!! Not taking any consideration for the paying patrons surrounding them, who are actually spending $$ not just taking up space. I like this place. I've been in both daylight and night and there is aways great ambiance. The decor is hip and cool. The service is aways good, servers have been attentive and friendly. I noticed an outdoor area on my last visit, but not sure if we could dine out there or if it's just a waiting area. There is no parking lot which can be a problem. They have valet at night (at least on the weekends, don't know about during the week). My main hesitation on giving this place a higher rating is food-related. The menu has a pretty nice variety (pizza, steak, seafood, sandwiches, etc.). I've had a couple of the chip-style appetizers which were amazing. My husband had the Tuscan chicken sandwich and it was wonderful. I've had both the tuna steak and the Mesa steak (Portuguese-style) and while they were both good, they were both super spicy, just on the border of being uncomfortable. I like flavor and spice, but it was juuuust a bit much. The first time (with the tuna) I thought, okay, fine, but when it happened again with a steak, I'm seeing a pattern, a cooking style. Which is fine, but I might be wary next time. Will there be a next time? Sure. Will I try something that likely won't be too spicy (pizza or a sandwich)? Maybe. But I absolutely recommend trying this place, just with that one asterisk - beware the spice! read more

My wife and I visited Mesa 21 last week. The valet parking was great. The wait was a tad long but definitely worth it since the food was fantastic. The service was excellent.We've been there countless times before. It's been a little on the noisy side but nothing like we were subject to this time. This is the reason for the 3 star review.I would have given it 5 stars but unfortunately can't. We sat on the high tables. Right beside us were a group of young men who were there when we first arrived. I noticed they were not eating just drinking. I thought that a tad strange. We were seated next to them. That's when the problems started. The abusive language was appalling. The constant litany of obscene language was disgusting. They were so loud and obnoxious that they ruined our dinner and also the couple sitting next to us. It was impossible for the staff to not hear them. I'm shocked no personnel approached the offenders and reprimanded them. The beer guzzlers must've thought they were in a men's bar which I would have had no problem with. That's acceptable in that type of establishment. Not in a restaurant like Mesa 21.They ordered no food just beers and inexpensive domestic beers at that. No regard for fellow patrons or couples out for a nice dinner. A continual barrage of beer bravado was endless. I didn't want to approach them to avoid a situation. I did make a cell phone call as we were leaving since I was incensed that no employee confronted them. My wife and I were highly offended by their actions.They created an awful hostile environment. You can bet, I won't take the chance again going to Mesa 21 and have my evening ruined by drunken hooligans. There are plenty of great establishments that don't allow that type of behavior. read more

I hesitate to write this review because the food was outstanding. My mother and I went Friday for the first time to celebrate her birthday. Our waitress was pushing us to order our meal at the same time we ordered appetizers. I specifically told her we did not want to rush. Lo and behold, while we were eating our appetizers, our entrees came to the table. I was extremely mad. She offered to put them under the warming lights until we were ready. Our entrees were both fish--this would have spoiled the dish. She argued with me about why she put the order in so early after I told her not to rush us. While eating dinner we ordered two more glasses of wine. Both wines were not the correct order. Again, she gave me a hard time. I have been stewing about this all weekend and I blame myself for not calling the manager over to complain. Again, excellent food--terrible waitress!!! I will go again, but this waitress needs to realize that the customer is right and not to argue about her poor service. read more
