Well here it finally is! Mesa has been reopened! We stopped by on a Tuesday night, hoping really, that nothing had changed. But it has. The new buildout is awesome. It is clean, simple and unpretentious. Our server Mel, was attentive, smart and pleasant. Just a really nice person who did an excellent job. We started with steamed quahogs with chourico. The Syrian bread that came with them was fresh and the clams were done to perfection. As it was $2.00 taco night, we ordered one cod taco, just to try them. IT WAS THE BEST TACO I HAVE EVER EATEN! Served in a crispy, warm tortilla, the fish chunks were fresh and lightly seasoned. And of course we ordered Margarita pizza from their famous brick fired oven and it was awesome. So this wonderful gem of a place did change. It is even better than before. However I am told that it is no longer advisable to show up and expect a table. The wait on a Friday or Saturday can be up to 45 minutes. So I guess absence did make our hearts grow fonder. Welcome back Mesa 21! You have been missed! read more

Tried Mesa 21 for the first time last week and I was impressed. I wasn't expecting much since I haven't heard many people talking about it but it was really good. The first time I went here I ordered take out since I was at work and craving some good portuguese food. I ordered the pork and little necks and it was really good. Large chunks of pork and juicy little necks, yummy! I also went with a couple of girls from work for lunch this week and ordered the pork sandwich which was just as delicious. The other girls I went with ordered the meatball sandwich and the hot italian. Both girls equally enjoyed their meals. Everyone left happy. read more

Let me start first by saying the waitress and the manager were EXCELLENT. They were so, so nice. Had the food been better, we would be back to try something else on the menu. Unfortunately, whoever created the menu needs a wake-up call. I ordered the lobster roll and my boyfriend ordered the portuguese steak. The lobster roll was $15 and came out on a HOT DOG BUN. I thought it was a joke, it literally looked like a kids meal. No way were we paying $15 for that when I could go to the 99 for a much BIGGER lobster roll for that price. My boyfriend's portuguese steak was also very small, and came out BROWN when he asked for it medium/really pink. The manager told him that because of how thin they make the portuguese steak, they really can't cook it any way except well-done... well then whoever's cooking it doesn't know how to cook. The restaurant itself is beautiful, I can tell they're going for a 5-star feel... but don't give us the 5-star serving sizes! We don't go out to eat in Fall River just to go home hungry! If we want the expensive food that's the size of your palm, we'll make the trek up to Boston for that, not our hometown! We ended up leaving to go somewhere else and the manager and waitress were extremely kind and understanding with our decision (it seems they get this a lot). The manager even took the beers off our check so we didn't owe them a dime, but we still left a tip for the waitress for the time she spent with us and her professionalism. read more

There's no other place to recommend in my book for exceptional Portuguese cuisine.... Mesa21 is the best in my book! The service is great, food is always fresh, hot and very safisfying. The two owners are brothers who work very hard to provide a quality product with fantastic service. The setting is inviting and comfortable for dining in or out during the summer time. What was once one of our favorites, it now off the list for good. It all started off with very slow service. The food that we ordered was terrible. Both entrees arrived cold as if it had been sitting around for a long time. The fish was cold and tasted like soap. There was nothing about this entire experience that was fresh. My advice, sit away from the door especially on a winter day. Order the Portuguese steak sandwich. Sooo good and cheap. The red pepper slices are the best so ask for extra. Service can be a problem at times but overall the waitresses bickering about the lack of tables they get can be overlooked. read more

Took my family out for dinner, the service is good, the food was good, I would highly recommend. They have brick oven pizza, it's delicious, you can smell it as soon as you walk in the place. Kids love the place because you can draw on the table, will definitely be back for more. read more

Recently ordered 2 pizzas for pick up. Pizzas were ready within 20 minutes and were absolutely delicious. Much better then any pizza you will get at a chain. Prices were a little bit higher but you pay for what you get. read more

Went with some friends tonight. Our server was too busy chatting at the bar and ignored us the whole time. We had to keep calling her over...for needed plates, utensils, water, bread, more drinks. At one point, we considered using our cell phones to call into the restaurant to tell whoever answered to send our server to our table. We complained, but even after that, it still did not get better. The manager came out and apologized, but things still did not improve. I don't think I've had such poor service in a very long time. The food was great and we enjoyed that. I think if I go back, it will be for take out. read more

Wonderful brick oven pizza! Try the Italian ... It's the best! Pork, steak, fish it's all there and all good. Just about everything else is worth a taste. My wife and I used to love this place, so we were anxious to visit Mesa 21 after they reopened. Unfortunately, I wish we hadn't gone. Positives: -Interior design is nice, the facility is clean. -The bread and oil was tasty -Good fries Negatives: -The server was unfamiliar with the food on the menu. -Kitchen is rather slow - over 30 minutes for a burger and a fried fish sandwich. -The "Portuguese soup" lacked flavor. The cup was was a quagmire of greens with a little bit of bland broth, a few carrots and a chunk or two of potato. There was no chourico in it and it lacked the spiciness usually associated with this kind of soup. -The burger came out overcooked and just wasn't very good. It tasted more like grill char than a burger in places. -The fish sandwich didn't include everything described on the menu and was a real disappointment for my wife. -The server didn't seem particularly interested in us, we saw her to order, clear the table and bring the check. We were unable to get additional drinks because of the inattention. You can get better food and service for the same (or less) money elsewhere in the city. This just isn't worth the time. read more

I told him what I was told earlier and a different woman comes on the phone to say they were sooooooo busy that they can't take reservations and that it's tough and may be a long wait because we have a party of 6... Mesa 21 almost ruined the surprise dinner I planned for my friend last night. After I called 3 times yesterday, no one felt it necessary to tell me they were closing to the public after 6pm. I called at noon to make a reservation, they told me they don't take reservations. Then a few hours later I called to ask if I could bring a cake in advance for dinner at 7pm, they said no problem and they'd put it in the fridge. I decided to get an ice cream cake so I called a third time to confirm they had freezer space, which they said they did. So, I get there with the cake and asked the hostess if I could bring in balloons (which I had in my car) she left to check with someone. Shortly after another girl approached me to tell me they were closing to the public after 6pm for a golf event that will be for more ppl than originally expected. When I asked her why I wasn't told that during any of the previous phone calls I made, she stated that she was the only person there who knew about it. I suppose the people who answer the phone don't need to know when the restaurant is closing to the public. I told the girl I have a melting cake and 4 others that I'd have to change plans with. I asked if they could just set one table aside for us. She said she would call someone to see if there was anything they could do. After waiting much longer than I cared to for her to return, I decided to walk out. read more

What an AMAZING friday night out dinning with friends. A large group of us got together to celebrate a friends birthday and I have got to say it was a night to remember. Our server Raffi, was attentive and very sweet, and everything came out just the way we ordered. This restaurant has an array of options in their menu that's satisfied everyone's needs and the drinks are out of this world ( best sangria ). It was a busy Saturday night and I was in a large party. First, the food was amazing. Their takes on the "Fall River staples" are great. The mix of the menu gave everyone in the group something they liked. Second, staff is great... the waitress and hostess were the sweetest: super friendly, quick, and most importantly got everyone's order correct. On a Saturday night orders can go wrong quickly (spent years as a waiter in NYC). This is my new first date place. I would've given 5 stars but the parking is a bit of a pain. read more

My wife and I decided to try Mesa 21 with some friends last Friday night. To begin, there is very little parking available in the area. We were seated promptly and asked if we'd like some drinks. We ordered some drinks and the Swedish Fish Martini that my friend had was really good, however when she ordered a second, it seems that they were out of the liquor that they needed. We ordered the Calamari for an appetizer and asked for bread for the table, but were told that it was still baking. When it came out the bread was tasty. The Calamari wasn't too bad either although it could have had a bit more oil. My friend and I both ordered the T-bone Portuguese steaks. The server took our order and returned to tell us that they were out of the T-bone. We changed our orders to the Pork Alantejana. It was just okay...my wife had the Shrimp Mozambique and she thought it was mediocre. My friends wife had the meat lovers pizza and she thought it was good. After dinner the server brought our check, but we told her that we were interested in dessert. We ordered Flan and Espresso. It turned out that they were also out of Flan. Bear in mind that this was 7 p.m. on a Friday night and it seemed that their stock of some typical things were very low or they are ill-prepared for a Friday night. My final take on Mesa 21 is that there are so many good restaurants in Fall River that serve great Portuguese food, that you should pass on this place. Very good food. Parking can be a little tough. I was hoping that the reports of slow service were exaggerated...but they are not. Horribly slow service...we were there for literally over 2 hours and it was not because we were hanging around after we finished our meal. The waitresses seemed more concerned with chatting with each other or their friends at the bar than serving customers. Would give 4 stars if the service was decent but in my mind, in a service industry, the unprofessionalism and disregard for customers was unacceptable. read more

I arrived at 6 pm on Saturday night, 9/24/16, and was seated right away. Although there was a long line of people waiting when we left at 7:15. I ordered a Cosmo and it was made perfectly. The waitress was on point. The items on the menu were priced very reasonably. I ordered the Bourbon steak tips (mashed potatoes & brocollini) $16. My brother ordered the swordfish (fingerling potatoes & asparagus) $16. Both meals were cooked perfectly and we enjoyed them. The portions were satisfying, but no take home containers. Only negatives were the bread basket came with no butter, and we assumed that it was up to us to utilize the oil, cheese and crushed peppers that were on the table to make a dip. Our attempt was no competition for Not Your Average Joe's seasoned oil. And the NOISE LEVEL! Yikes! It was a full restaurant and the noise level was bad. I almost felt I needed to text my brother our conversation because I was tired of him saying "What?" The restaurant might benefit with some wall hangings to absorb the noise. I'd visit again on a week night or during the day when it wasn't so full - the noise was that distracting. read more

The food was great, and Josh was with us the entire night to ensure that everyone was happy and things went as planned. Yet another Portuguese restaurant in Fall River, but nothing special about it. My recent experience here left me hungry and annoyed that a new Portuguese restaurant cant even make better food then the ones that have been around for many years in my home town. After ordering a classic Portuguese dish of pork and little necks and have the shellfish over cooked, rubbery, and overly salted, the only reason I took more then a few bites is because of how hungry I was. Luckily my fellow diners had ordered a margarita pizza that I was anticipating to have a few slices of to curve my appetite, but after only two bites, I realized my luck had run out. When this place was Il Piatto Semplice, the pizza was amazing and the service was impecable, but after having bland pizza (cooked by the same cooked who worked here when it was the former establishment) and a server that took twenty minutes just to bring us our drinks and always seemed to pre-occupied to check on us, I feel who ever took this place over needs to talk to the former owners to see how its done. I would recommend this place if your looking to socialize as the bar was packed, but I guess any place can do that when football is on If you cant think of anywhere else to go in the city, and have over used all of Fall Rivers very few choices, then go to Mesa 21 but don't be expecting much read more

Bourbon Tips were tender and really good! My daughter loved her steak sandwich (not tough like most places ) and my son enjoyed his pizza. Wife's salmon was great and flaked nicely. I went here tonight with my wife and the experience was awful. We sat at a table in the dining room for 15 minutes without anyone coming up to us. At that point we figured we would give the restaurant another chance going to the bar. When we sat at the bar the bartender came over and we asked if we could speak to a manager. She said there wasn't one. From an industry point of view there should always be a manager on duty and that was a flag right there. Our experience was horrible and I wish we could have let the manager know. I doubt we will ever return. read more

A good neighborhood restaurant , Mesa 21 features an interesting mix of classic Portuguese dishes and brick-oven pizza. The former is testament to the local heritage, whiel the latter is a welcome leftover from its previous incarnation as a pizza joint. Prices and service are both reasonable, and the atmosphere is clean and casual. Their bourbon steak tips are a house favorite, and their margerita pizza is well-prepared. Went here for dinner last week on advice of a friend. Food was great, especially the bourbon steak tips. The brick oven cheese pizza was also good:) The only thing that I didn't like was how loud the restaurant was. There really isn't anything they can do about the sound. I found it difficult to hear my husband from across the table which is why they lost a star above. A lot of Hah, what did you say? All in all we will be back for the great food. read more

Not really a choice for me if I go out to eat. The service is ok but not the best. What really got me is that when I walked in they were playing rock music on the speakers.
