A small town gem (with a hiccup or two)! We went with local friends who love this spot, but had no expectations. Coming from the foodie PNW, and usually driving the freeways, we have learned to make the best of road food. We were immediately struck by the clean white modern decor and austere interior--unexpected in small-town USA. It was spare and minimalist. Not surprisingly, the acoustics are a bit rough for those who don't hear well in crowds. (Also, the chairs are metal and were quite cold on the women's hineys--be forewarned for winter dining and take something warmer to sit on!) The server was friendly and attempted to be helpful but clearly did not know the menu, or wines, well. She seemed very young and inexperienced, which is, of course, forgivable. We wanted to order a bottle of wine and luckily they offered a sample--can't remember the brand now but it was a tasty medium-bodied Italian Red. They also offer 1/2 priced bottles of wine on Tuesdays which made us very happy! The menu is delightful and filled with interesting options--we took a long time to decide but eventually narrowed it down. Our friends usually order a salad and split a pizza, which they said were very good there, but we decided to branch out this time. I ordered the BBQ shrimp (just FYI--there was nothing BBQ sauce-y about the shrimp--purely a grilled flavor) w/ linguine and ordered it without the sausage--it was delicious! (The pasta was more like soba noodles, definitely not linguine--possibly a whole wheat noodle, but still was tasty.) A young friend ordered the same dish and loved it with the sausage. The chicken livers, with assorted gourmet accoutrements, were a big hit with the one who ordered them (he couldn't persuade us to take a bite ), as was the Barrata salad. We shared this and everyone loved the combination of pickled thin-sliced citrus, fresh mozzarella, pickled beets, and a tangy dressing, Nicely done, Meribo! Four out of five orders arrived in reasonable time, and then we waited at least another 10 minutes for the sweet potato gnocchi dish, assuming it was just held up, before saying something. Clearly a mistake, as the order seemed to have gotten forgotten in the kitchen shuffle. Once it arrived it was quite interesting and tasty--I would like to try it next time. An unfortunate distraction of the evening was the "signature Carbonara pasta" dish--smoky black pepper pasta with Parmesan cheese and some chives. The dish was presented as, "our take on Carbonara," but was so far from traditional pasta Carbonara as to be a source of amusement for the table--it lacked a cream sauce, peas, and pancetta, and thus Flavor. As we attempted to explain to our server why the dish was inadequate, and repeated ourselves to a sou chef who brought out the missing gnocchi, and waited for the Carbonara to be amended (they eventually just added some bacon and it became tasty--yay, bacon!), we amused ourselves with our take on their take, "that's like them bringing out a plate of iceberg lettuce and saying, 'It's our take on red beans and rice!'" Our little attempt at humor aside, we hope that the chef will listen to the feedback about the Carbonara--according to our server, it has been offered multiple times--and make a more interesting gourmet version of the dish. Taking the good stuff from a dish that Works and calling it Your Take on it isn't an improvement. Taking a dish that is traditionally complex in both flavor and texture and making it one-dimensional isn't a winner, your take or not. Listen to your customers on this one, Meribo! That aside, we all ended up enjoying our dinners here a great deal and hope to return soon. We're delighted at the quality of food you are providing for the community--thank you. read more

I should have written this a LONG time ago, but I've been busy - we've been there twice so far, but I want to go back to the first visit. The kiddo and I went here mainly because we saw the chef/owner on Chopped and thought he was ROBBED of the win and since Covington wasn't too far away from Algiers, we could run across the lake to visit...we booked a room at a B&B for the night and our dinner hopes well in tow at Meribo - whoo-hoo! Now if you have read any of my other reviews, you will know that when the kiddo and I go to a new restaurant, we go all out and order something from every portion of the menu and share it all...this was no exception. We started with their pimento ham and cheese board that came with fresh made focaccia, it was very tasty and the homemade pickles were awesome by themselves. We also had TWO more appetizer tastes, an arancini that was made with pork they were testing out for the new menu that was upcoming - oh, that was sooooooooo good I really wanted more of that, but I only have one tummy and it just wasn't happening, since we had so much other food coming. I honestly cannot remember what the other appetizer was, but it was delicious too. It was about this time that the kiddo and I realized neither one of us had a form of payment with us, whoops!!! and we still had a pizza AND a special request order of penne and meatballs on order and two desserts picked out too!! I had to make the grape escape and run back to the B&B AND navigate back to the restaurant in a city I know nothing about, ohh scary scary, but after about 40 minutes I made it back and we moved on - they held the rest of our order while I went to go get my credit card and we proceeded to make little piglets of ourselves further because everything was so good. The kiddo ordered a pizza and I don't recall everything that was on it, but it had broccolini and sausage I think, with a white sauce, I thought it was ok, I didn't care for the sauce, but she loved it and that's all that mattered. I had the special order of "spaghetti" and meatballs. It is not a dish on their menu, but they do have meatballs on a smallish plate and they had a penne pasta with a marinara sauce, so they mashed them together for me, so I could have what I wanted yippee!! It was delicious and for me, there is never enough cheese, so I had to request more, but I got that and sighed at my cheesy spaghetti heaven and closed my eyes :). It was the first time in a long long time that I had enjoyed going to a restaurant...and the kiddo and I left incredibly fat and happy. Our visit to Meribo ultimately figured into why we made the decision to move to Covington a few months later when we needed a new place to live. We have been there once since we moved here and are looking forward to our next visit. I see there is a new spring menu out there now, we may very well be in for a NEW visit in the coming days. I highly highly recommend Meribo. I was impressed with both visits, but my first visit was definitely more entertaining to write about :). read more

Lackluster at best. We heard this was the new place to go in Covington so we went. Portion sizes are small. When deciding on any dish, pretend that there is no meat...once things are delivered, they say dishes having "a dusting" of ham for example on the carbonara. Bartender doesn't know how to tilt the glass so you wait for five minutes as she waits for half a glass of foam to slowly come down. We would not go back. We would recommend the wood fired mozzarella. read more

Food is great! Really good pizza just like Italy! The appetizers are great as well, especially the Brussels sprouts the service was attentive but not obtrusive. Restaurant was a bit warm and it's kind of expensive for a pizza place. read more

went here on a Date Night. Interior is retro hipster. No rezzie but we were seated after only a pleasant 10 minute wait at the bar. We split the Snausage Pizza, she had a glass of the Syrah and a glass of Chianti - two thumbs up. I was driving so had only sweet tea but it was just right, not teeth-grindingly over-sweetened like most places in my redneck of the woods. Pizza was a flatbrwead pizza but it wasn't like I was eating cheese off a damn cracker like most flatbread pizzas can be. Lots of cheese, lots of Snausage, interesting pairing with broccoli - I'll eat one of these again. We each ordered desserts - she had the cannoli and I had the cheesecake. Both were excellent. The pastry chef looks like he is overly fond of his own creations but that's a good thing. Waiter was perfect - made sure we were okay but wasn't hanging all over us like a tick on a Coonhound's neck. I also like that they have a long hi-top table by the bar for singles and mingles. Great way to meet new peeps. My only bitch is the black stools at the bar and the black chairs at the tables. Living in New Orleans, I make the trip to the Northshore regularly now just to eat at Meribo. From the gorgeous interior to the sweet staff, the honest and humble owners to the DELICIOUS food, i can't get enough. The burrata salad is a favorite and of course any pizza on the menu will make you do a happy dance. Took my parents here who had never been to the Northshore and Anna (one of the owners) personally welcomed them with open arms and gave recommendations on where to sightsee around Covington! So happy to have found this little gem! read more

They've stayed open for curbside, updated their website (with a special menu and clear pickup instructions), set up online ordering (with secure payment!), AND extended happy-hour pricing(!). I just tried Meribo's lunch for the first time. I ordered the Meribo Muffuletta and substituted the chips for the pasta salad. It was absolutely delicious. I don't really like to order to-go from restaurants because the food portions are always so much smaller compared to dining in. My portion of food was perfect and have another half of the muffuletta that I will most definitely eat later. I substituted the chips for the pasta salad for only $1 and it was the best pasta salad I've ever had. The arugula, capers, and sun-dried tomatoes in the salad added great flavor to it. Between their lunch, dinners, and desserts, Meribo certainly knows how to add a modern twist to traditional plates. The specialty cocktails on the menu are tasty and always change with season. Anyways, Meribo is a great business and I highly recommend you trying it! read more

Pretty disappointed in Meribo tonight. I had been once before and had nice service. Today after we had been seated a bus boy came and gave us water and told us a server would be with us shortly. Five mins pass and still no waiter. The bus boy comes back and we ask if we have a waiter. He looks around for a few minutes and then assures us our waiter will be with us soon. 5 minutes later still no waiter. Pretty bad service for a Friday date night. Burger night! Burgers are not on their regular dinner menu, but a friend saw "burger night" on FB and we decided to try it. I was already a fan of this restaurant, but man, that was the best burger I've ever eaten and the price was unbelievable. Comes with two patties, house made chips (and house made pickles) which were delicious. For $2 more you could get tator tots, which were also good. We had Brussel Sprouts for an appetizer (which are over-priced but definitely the best I've ever had). I've been there several times for all day Wednesday happy hour, but I will definitely be returning for an amazing burger! read more

After several friends recommended Meribo, we figured we'd give it a shot. We were excited about the menu, too. What we didn't do before coming in was look at the one-star and two-star reviews to get a better sense of what's going on here, and I wish we had. Things we experienced have been issues for years. First, the space is gorgeous, but it is INCREDIBLY loud. The entire restaurant is hard surfaces. This is something that's pretty easy to remedy, and I know there are companies in the area who have helped other places that had similar issues (look back to Pizza Domenica and Borgne for examples). Second, we waited about 20 minutes for our server to take our order, which never happened. We ended up walking out after we realized few other tables actually had food. There was a very large party seated near us, with one server handling that entire party, which may have been too much. There was a manager near the bar who seemed unaware of what was going on. I would love to give this place another shot, but unfortunately, I don't think we'll be doing so until the service issues seem less consistent and until the noise issue is resolved. read more

Great service, great atmosphere and the food is outstanding. We had the pizza and it was awesome with a light hint of smoke from the wood fired oven with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. We also tried the crispy chicken livers with strawberry jam. Who would have thought these two were meant to go together? Out of sight! The owner came and checked on us and was very gracious for our business. The best part is the HAPPY HOUR 3pm to 6pm EVERY DAY! During Happy Hour you get half-price pizzas, half-price Specialty Cocktails, half-price Beers and $5 Glasses of House Red and White Wine. We will definitely go back! read more

The pizza was fantastic - piping hot, while served on a light and flavorful crust that held up until the last bite. It was so good that during our week long stay in New Orleans, we went back for another meal. The individual pizza varieties were enough to satisfy standard pepperoni eaters, to those of us with a little more adventure. We went during happy hour, which was a fantastic find that we stumbled into, but the cashier rang us up at full price, which required an overly complicated refund process. The only other drawback was that we were never quite sure if the staff only worked at Meribo, or if they worked at the surrounding counters as well, since nobody was consistently occupying the Meribo counter space. One minute people were there, the next minute they were gone. read more

Had a great lunch today. This place is a refreshing change from the rest of the northshore -a little gem in Covington. The dishes are inventive and delicious. (If you want a roast beef poboy and fried catfish this is not the place for you). Todays soup was creamy artichoke, shrimp and roasted pepper. It was delicious and I've never had anything quite like it. Also had half of the pulled pork sandwich. I love half and half lunch selections, that way you get to sample more dishes.
