I really like pizza. A lot. Meribo has a lot of awesome pizzas. I like Meribo. They also have a bunch of other awesome stuff, like tuna #sofresh that it probably swam all the way up the Bogue Falaya from Venice to the back door. That's a long journey for a tuna, so it's seasonal, but if more tuna hear about the awesome pizza, I expect more to make the trip from the gulf. Not too many places around here have Wagyu beef, and not too many places around here have Carpaccio. Meribo has Wagyu beef Carpaccio. Wagyu beef Carpaccio is like combining the voices of Fergie and Jesus, raw, uncut, with no auto-tune. Their wine selection also rivals the Catalina Wine Mixer. I've never been. Just things I've heard. They also have Benton's bacon. If you haven't had Benton's bacon, your life thus far has been a failure. It's never too late to fix that though, and Meribo is a good place to start, because like half the menu has Benton's bacon. The only thing that could make that better is if every single item on the menu had Benton's bacon. Or if every single item on the menu was Benton's bacon. I'd be fine with either really. There's a squid ink pasta, which a.) is awesome, and b.) reminds me of the ink scene in Finding Nemo, which is also awesome. I reluctantly (prefer talking to a person) tried to order online..... this did not conclude my evening with a pizza. I called and spoke to someone there and I asked to order "to go". They instructed me to order online in which I mentioned the technical issues (frustrating) I had and wanted to place an order. I received a non apologetic "we are busy, you need to order online". In the time we spoke on the phone the person could have easily put in my order. I already avoid chains like Walmart and CVS for diminishing people from the workforce with automation but this is concerning that a local eatery would take customer service out of their offerings. read more

Tried for lunch for the first time today and it was wonderful! The atmosphere is light, clean and bright. Our server, Cole, was so friendly and attentive and knew his stuff. We got the calamari, burrata, Brussels sprout pizza and turkey sandwich. Each dish was delish...the burrata and the pizza were the true stand outs. The crust on the wood fired pizza was impeccable. Not a repeat. They were 50% full on a Saturday night but would not seat us until full party was there (managers policy), I guess we won't have any extra drinks while we wait. Wow are the acoustics bad - desperate need of sound deadening- literally could not hear people across the table. My wife's $10 drink was half full (see photo) I am sort of glad now that we did not order extra drinks - probably saved myself $40. When the waitress took orders - she missed my daughter - I had to find the waitress and bring her back. To be balanced in my feedback - food was good. Each dish was tasty. Particularly good was the queso and Brussels sprouts. But VERY expensive for very mediocre service. I guess when there is an automatic 20% tip built in, why try hard? read more

I didn't get the appeal of this place until I went for happy hour. The $7 pizzas are amazing and the cocktails are great. Stick with the pizzas, though. I have tried the chicken sandwich and a couple of pastas. The pastas were ok, and the chicken sandwich was not good. read more

My wife and I ate at Meribo on the night of 9/5. I had the chicken parm, which was good. The hostess commented that the crabmeat spaghetti was very good, so my wife ordered it. As it turns out the dish was not good at all. It had a very strong lemon flavor. We told our waitress that we didn't like it and she took it away. We were very surprised that we were charged for the meal upon receiving our check. I understand that the restaurant doesn't want to eat the cost of the meal. I also didn't want to pay for something that we didn't eat. Companies that have outstanding customer service find a way to turn a bad experience into a good one. Was $18 worth disappointed customers, a bad review, and negative word of mouth to future potential customers? read more

Potato pizza is outstanding as are the bee sting mules. My only complaint is the hostess needs an attitude adjustment-quit if you are so unhappy but You shouldn't be so nasty to clients. If she's there next time We'll go elsewhere. I went for lunch on Saturday, 9/12. read more

This place is good don't get me wrong but the service is so iffy every single time! Like one time me and a friend went into the bar area one night for a few drinks and sat at the bar for 35 minutes with not a single person acknowledging us!! Rude staff were not accommodating at all. Wanted to try it but the unexpected lameness ruined it. The place was mostly empty but when we asked not to be seated in the sun we were told we couldn't sit anywhere else. Take it or leave it. Casual sophistication! This place feels like a big city in a small town. First, I've been to Italy several times and can tell you that Meribo's pizzas blend the best of Italy with the best of So La. You can tell the pizza oven came from Italy. Try the fried oyster pizza. Second, the carbonara is as good as I have had anywhere. Third, the bar is just plain chic. Finally, the dessert was a kind of Italian beignet. Just delicious. I will be back. So, they've added lunch. I had the cold cut panini which was just like the ones I've had in Italy. The food was so surprisingly amazing! The reason I didn't give five stars was because the very popularly recommended appetizer, "Crispy Brussels" were not good at all. We overheard two other waiters, including ours, recommend them. After trying them for ourselves, I definitely recommend a pass. BUT! Everything else was outstanding. Overall our experience was good. To start we got the beef tartare and it was disappointing. The blue cheese was too overpowering and you could barely taste the beef. Then we ordered mushroom pizza and it was amazing. Seriously delicious. I highly recommend. My only other criticism is the restaurant was really warm. I am not sure if it's normally like that because of the oven being exposed in the restaurant but I found it to be uncomfortable. We will definitely try it again though. read more

Very Modern Italian Restaurant in Downtown Covington. The Beef Carpaccio is outstanding! It is with out a doubt some of the best I have ever had. The Squid Ink Pappardelle is delicious. I ate at the bar and the staff was very nice. The only think that I see wrong with this restaurant is the acoustics is horrible! I would not recommend going there with a large group because you would never be able to hear any conversations that are going on. read more

My first visit here and I was pleasantly surprised. Many times when you order a wood fired pizza, the crust tastes like cardboard. I really like the fact that they make their own dough; the crust was great and pizza was very flavorful. We got a meatball appetizer and it was very good. Had a wonderful dining experience! The restaurant is open and inviting. The waitstaff is professional and very friendly! The pizza and appetizers were very tasty and unique. (Wine was pretty smooth and refreshing) My daughter and her husband met me for dinner. We were only able to meet about an hour before they closed. I am from out of town. We suffered no issues at all with coming in close to their closing time. As a matter of fact they went out of their way to provide a fantastic dining event. I am a bit nervous dining towards the end of service anywhere I dine. I eat out quite a bit. This is the bewitching time for restaurants. I am a chef and have owned and managed quite a few dining operations. Close to closing the staff is working towards closing and also tending to diners. We finished and left before their closing time. In my experienced opinion diners should respect posted closing times. Coming in an establishment minutes before posted closing times and expecting the best a restaurant offers in terms of food and service is unrealistic, selfish and entitled. The staff here made us feel like royalty and provided a memorable dining experience. I tip my hat to the owners, staff and management for their hospitality and professionalism. Thank you! read more

Pretty disappointed...came here after going to see a movie with my husband hoping to get a few bites to eat and a drink or two. The food was blah...we got a mozzarella appetizer and that was probably the best part of our dinner. The calamari was overly greasy and my pizza was insanely spicy. My husband got a pasta dish with shrimp, had two bites and that was it- it taste awful. We didn't complain but the waitress noticed we barely ate our food and comped the pasta dish for us. Drink wise...hubby got a beer so he didn't go wrong and I got a cocktail but it was over poured and couldn't taste anything but the vodka in it. Basically, we won't be returning. read more

Neat place! Fun atmosphere. I found them on instagram advertising for Covington White Linen Night. We went on White Linen Night so it was JAM PACKED, but they seated us without a reservation because someone had cancelled. We got lucky! The owner is great! He was very friendly and so were all the staff members. Those greeting us at the front door weren't very friendly, but they had just recently opened and were so busy. They did a nice job out back with live music and a bar that night, we had a good time! The pizzas are not big! They are tasty though! Usually, I would not justify spending $15 on a thin crust pizza with just 3-4 toppings on it, (I usually reserve that for the extra supreme from Papa Johns); however, when you have a happy hour every day from 3-6 (and all day Wednesdays) that's 50% off pizzas, how could I NOT go?! Based on my Papa John's comment earlier, you can already tell I'm not a pizza snob. As a graduate student, I love cheap and large quantities. Thankfully, however, the post-doc in my lab turned me onto this place and their happy hour pizzas may be the one thing I look forward to each work week. I've tried their meridionale, Italian sausage, and Brussels sprouts, and all three have been exceptional. I want to pick a favorite but I seriously can't. The Italian sausage is great because it has large pieces of roasted garlic and then the crisp broccolini which gives a nice dense crunch, and their white sauce is smoky and rich and delicious. The meridionale has pork shoulder, collards, and caramelized onions, probably the greatest trio since the Three Musketeers. And for a kid who waged WWIII with my parents over eating "baby cabbages" as a kid, the brussel sprout pizza is incredible. There's something about the slightly burnt/crispy brussel sprout leaves that gives a distinct, slightly bitter, smoky flavor that really rounds out the whole pizza... Which also has a runny farm egg and bacon on top... It's so decadently delicious. The servers are always courteous and polite and bring you water pretty regularly (if they don't leave a bottle of water on your table), and my only complaint is that sometimes it takes a while to get your food. However, I know this is because they've got one brick oven and a lot of happy hour pizza orders to throw in; absolutely nothing wrong with that, just don't show up and expect it to be a quick meal... On average I've spent around an hour-hour and a half here, so make sure you plan accordingly. The interior design is crisp, modern, yet very home-like, and the brick oven fire is warm and welcoming. They even have an adorable patio with a fountain that's great to just sit out at and socialize while you wait for your food. Parking can be not so fun because they only have about 3-5 street spots in front, but you can park in the field by the cross fit place/Abita Brewery. I should feel guilty for parking by the cross fit place and walking over to indulge in decadent pizza, but I don't. Also, I should probably mention happy hour is also half off glasses of wine and well drinks, too? Either way, this place is a total win in my book. read more

A small town gem (with a hiccup or two)! We went with local friends who love this spot, but had no expectations. Coming from the foodie PNW, and usually driving the freeways, we have learned to make the best of road food. We were immediately struck by the clean white modern decor and austere interior--unexpected in small-town USA. It was spare and minimalist. Not surprisingly, the acoustics are a bit rough for those who don't hear well in crowds. (Also, the chairs are metal and were quite cold on the women's hineys--be forewarned for winter dining and take something warmer to sit on!) The server was friendly and attempted to be helpful but clearly did not know the menu, or wines, well. She seemed very young and inexperienced, which is, of course, forgivable. We wanted to order a bottle of wine and luckily they offered a sample--can't remember the brand now but it was a tasty medium-bodied Italian Red. They also offer 1/2 priced bottles of wine on Tuesdays which made us very happy! The menu is delightful and filled with interesting options--we took a long time to decide but eventually narrowed it down. Our friends usually order a salad and split a pizza, which they said were very good there, but we decided to branch out this time. I ordered the BBQ shrimp (just FYI--there was nothing BBQ sauce-y about the shrimp--purely a grilled flavor) w/ linguine and ordered it without the sausage--it was delicious! (The pasta was more like soba noodles, definitely not linguine--possibly a whole wheat noodle, but still was tasty.) A young friend ordered the same dish and loved it with the sausage. The chicken livers, with assorted gourmet accoutrements, were a big hit with the one who ordered them (he couldn't persuade us to take a bite ), as was the Barrata salad. We shared this and everyone loved the combination of pickled thin-sliced citrus, fresh mozzarella, pickled beets, and a tangy dressing, Nicely done, Meribo! Four out of five orders arrived in reasonable time, and then we waited at least another 10 minutes for the sweet potato gnocchi dish, assuming it was just held up, before saying something. Clearly a mistake, as the order seemed to have gotten forgotten in the kitchen shuffle. Once it arrived it was quite interesting and tasty--I would like to try it next time. An unfortunate distraction of the evening was the "signature Carbonara pasta" dish--smoky black pepper pasta with Parmesan cheese and some chives. The dish was presented as, "our take on Carbonara," but was so far from traditional pasta Carbonara as to be a source of amusement for the table--it lacked a cream sauce, peas, and pancetta, and thus Flavor. As we attempted to explain to our server why the dish was inadequate, and repeated ourselves to a sou chef who brought out the missing gnocchi, and waited for the Carbonara to be amended (they eventually just added some bacon and it became tasty--yay, bacon!), we amused ourselves with our take on their take, "that's like them bringing out a plate of iceberg lettuce and saying, 'It's our take on red beans and rice!'" Our little attempt at humor aside, we hope that the chef will listen to the feedback about the Carbonara--according to our server, it has been offered multiple times--and make a more interesting gourmet version of the dish. Taking the good stuff from a dish that Works and calling it Your Take on it isn't an improvement. Taking a dish that is traditionally complex in both flavor and texture and making it one-dimensional isn't a winner, your take or not. Listen to your customers on this one, Meribo! That aside, we all ended up enjoying our dinners here a great deal and hope to return soon. We're delighted at the quality of food you are providing for the community--thank you. read more

Lackluster at best. We heard this was the new place to go in Covington so we went. Portion sizes are small. When deciding on any dish, pretend that there is no meat...once things are delivered, they say dishes having "a dusting" of ham for example on the carbonara. Bartender doesn't know how to tilt the glass so you wait for five minutes as she waits for half a glass of foam to slowly come down. We would not go back. I should have written this a LONG time ago, but I've been busy - we've been there twice so far, but I want to go back to the first visit. The kiddo and I went here mainly because we saw the chef/owner on Chopped and thought he was ROBBED of the win and since Covington wasn't too far away from Algiers, we could run across the lake to visit...we booked a room at a B&B for the night and our dinner hopes well in tow at Meribo - whoo-hoo! Now if you have read any of my other reviews, you will know that when the kiddo and I go to a new restaurant, we go all out and order something from every portion of the menu and share it all...this was no exception. We started with their pimento ham and cheese board that came with fresh made focaccia, it was very tasty and the homemade pickles were awesome by themselves. We also had TWO more appetizer tastes, an arancini that was made with pork they were testing out for the new menu that was upcoming - oh, that was sooooooooo good I really wanted more of that, but I only have one tummy and it just wasn't happening, since we had so much other food coming. I honestly cannot remember what the other appetizer was, but it was delicious too. It was about this time that the kiddo and I realized neither one of us had a form of payment with us, whoops!!! and we still had a pizza AND a special request order of penne and meatballs on order and two desserts picked out too!! I had to make the grape escape and run back to the B&B AND navigate back to the restaurant in a city I know nothing about, ohh scary scary, but after about 40 minutes I made it back and we moved on - they held the rest of our order while I went to go get my credit card and we proceeded to make little piglets of ourselves further because everything was so good. The kiddo ordered a pizza and I don't recall everything that was on it, but it had broccolini and sausage I think, with a white sauce, I thought it was ok, I didn't care for the sauce, but she loved it and that's all that mattered. I had the special order of "spaghetti" and meatballs. It is not a dish on their menu, but they do have meatballs on a smallish plate and they had a penne pasta with a marinara sauce, so they mashed them together for me, so I could have what I wanted yippee!! It was delicious and for me, there is never enough cheese, so I had to request more, but I got that and sighed at my cheesy spaghetti heaven and closed my eyes :). It was the first time in a long long time that I had enjoyed going to a restaurant...and the kiddo and I left incredibly fat and happy. Our visit to Meribo ultimately figured into why we made the decision to move to Covington a few months later when we needed a new place to live. We have been there once since we moved here and are looking forward to our next visit. I see there is a new spring menu out there now, we may very well be in for a NEW visit in the coming days. I highly highly recommend Meribo. I was impressed with both visits, but my first visit was definitely more entertaining to write about :). read more
