My true pick would be one star. Though truthfully, it really seems like they have a vision and are trying to make it what they envision and you can see attention to detail. As bad reviews are normally something I will skim through to see what made the reviewer leave such a review. I will list in bullet points and list just the basics as well as my personal thoughts in parentheses. Enviroment - trying for a modern feel, which equals hard, cold metal chairs and too bright of lighting. No color, all white walls, and a slight echo (cute fake succulents at the tables, I will give them that. personally hate the feel of it. The bar has little coat hooks for ladies purses, nice touch) Food - food at a price that does not reflect the crinkled paper menues, $13 for a 1/3 cup of tomato sauce, some cheese and two pieces of bread, for example. Southern/italian fusion food (mediocre food, small portions, too exspensive for what you get) - you're paying for the enviroment and the presentation of the food, not the actual food (except the cookies, those are actually really good and house made according to the waiter) - Calamari, (my order) very lightly breaded. not, comes with fried lemon slices. (interesting, not my thing, but another in the party loved them) - a seafood pasta, which the name escapes me. they said it was pretty good, but not for the price. - salmon, too small of proportion which left her still hungry. Basic in taste - dessert, chocolate chip cookies and a cup of milk. can't go wrong with this, great, cute milk mug. Best thing here Service - waiting for water refills for 45 minutes, overall slow and subpar service (former waiter here, so Im not judging this aspect too harshly. nice water containers) - group of 4 people ask for bread? Had the opportunity to visit "Meribo" while on work assignment in St. Tammany. I am from Brooklyn, NY, where there is no lost for fine thin crust pizza. I am pleased to announce that "Meribo" delivered on its flavor and crust and transposed me to the finest pizza spots in Brooklyn. This spot is a must if you are in the Covington LA. area. They have managed to combine the two worlds of southern flare and pizza. Please please pleeeaaase do something about the terrible acoustics at this restaurant! I was hoping something would be done about this during the recent remodel, but my husband and I decided to come here for dinner last Saturday night (I know weekends are usually crowded) and everyone was just yelling over each other and it just felt really chaotic. It seems like basic restaurant knowledge that soft surfaces absorb all the excess noise, but there is nothing in this restaurant able to do that (no rugs, upholstered seating, etc). The food here is AMAZING but sadly we will not be dining here again (maybe just ordering to go) because the atmosphere is just not enjoyable. read more

We were driving on I-12 on our way towards the Mobile area. Traffic was so bad we got off and found ourselves in Covington, LA. We went to Meribo Italianl Restaurant. It was worth the trip. The food was great. We were there on a Wednesday and they have drinks at a reduced price and $8.00 pizzas. We got on pizza, chicken parmigiana, and a burger with loaded Tatar tots. The food was terrific. The pizza was so good we got one to go. Service was great, all the people were so polite and professional, especially Lainey, the hostess. She got us seated fast and made some great suggestions. My rating would have been five stars, but it was very loud inside. read more

Went to lunch at Pythian Market on Monday, July 16th, to celebrate surviving the torrential mists of Hurricane Barely. My third trip there, and have tried the food at DirtySouth Sammich Company (brisket is the BEST) and Meribo Pizza. I walked into the Market and went to the Maribo Pizza counter. Before I could even place an order, one of the two men behind the counter barked at me to "Get your stick off the counter." I am in my sixties. I walk with a cane. Canes don't balance well on their own, and vendors like to be paid, so I usually prop my cane against a wall or place it on a table while I reach for my wallet to pay a bill. Could not place the cane against the wall as it was topped by a wide counter, so I placed it on top. After the guy told me off, I silently left, and my cane and I ordered an excellent lunch from the Sammich Company where the vendors smile and are cordial and kind. As I left the Market and stepped onto Loyola, "Get your stick off the counter" guy and his buddy were sitting at a sidewalk table, smoking. Good to know the hands that make your pizza have a smoked-in flavor all their own. Here's my tip: do NOT go to Maribo Pizza if you use a cane, or are old, or disabled, or expect a smile, or want courteous service. The pizza is good, but it's not worth being treated like dirt. read more

I really enjoy this place. The food is delicious! Our go-to is always the ham and cheese pizza and for $7 on Wednesday's you can't really beat it! My absolute favorite thing here? The brussel sprouts. Oh. My. Gawd. Those things are just little green bits of delight. Those would turn out a sprout hater. Also, the whipped ricotta, arancini and tots are always delicious! The only real negative to Meribo is that it's so loud. Like, real loud. They could probably use some rugs on the floors or curtains to absorb sound. If you're planning on going on a Wednesday (all day happy hour, so it's always crowded) with a group, don't plan on conversing with the table very much; you won't be able to hear them. In the end, I'd recommend this place to anyone. The food is always a hit and the servers are great. read more

This is the perfect case of a great potential that is undermined by indecision. This restaurant cannot figure out what they want to be. They have the meridional approach to simple pizza salad and rose wine that the South or Italy or France offers. That is appealing. They then throw in gnocchi and fancier fare that goes into heavy sauces. So then you think to yourself this restaurant is trying to be Tuscan-Louisianian. Then you find tater tots with pimento and cheese cake.... bottom line it leaves the consumer confused. That is obvious by how people dress from casual short flip flops with baby strollers to dolled up and elegant. Pick a lane- either lane - and be good at it. Not kid friendly. No changing tables in bathrooms. And manager didn't seem to like that we were there without 18 month old. Won't be back. Editing review after response from manager- We were visiting with some friends during happy hour. When we arrived around 4 pm there was waitstaff setting up tables, sliding chairs, sliding tables around -- while we were dining and having some drinks. The noise didn't really bother us because we had our precious 18 month old with us. We just moved to the area and are still looking for a babysitter, but we take her with everywhere anyways! She has been to Italy & Switzerland! When my husband wanted to go change our little girl's diaper, he went to the restroom to find that there were no changing tables in the men's restroom (guess that's a female role only!) and then decided to change her on the patio, outside, where there were no guests. Apparently the trash can that he threw the diaper into was not in use, even though there were several guests in the restaurant. Then my sweet 18 month old decided to clank around a fork and a butter knife on the water glass and all of our friends (all who have children of their own) thought it was adorable so we watched her do that for about 60 seconds. Then all of sudden a dark shadow came over my shoulder and it was the big scary manager. I honestly do not even remember what he said, but I am sure it was something along the lines of "oh how cute, but let's not break the glass".... I love how he described it as ear-piercing. Maybe that's why I didn't hear what he said. Funny enough we left a restaurant earlier in the day because the bag pipes were playing too loudly for our little girl's ears. We take great care of her ears and would never let her contribute to ear-piercing noise, if that is even possible for an 18-month old to do. The class of 07 was having their 10 year reunion 15 feet away in the exact same restaurant and let's just say they were not being very quiet. The restaurant was not too packed otherwise (maybe why they have to rent it out to high school reunions on a Saturday night?). The food? Eh, same as the first time we visited on a house hunting trip to the area. Not great. But our little one has had real italian pizza, so it's hard to compare! The service? Our bartender/waiter was nice enough. We didn't see a hostess when we walked in. And the girl who delivered our food was not friendly in the least. And well, you already know what our impression of the manager was. No one ever acknowledged our little girl, not with a kids menu, not to offer her a drink, nothing. So I stand by my "not kid-friendly" review. So needless to say, we won't be back. read more

Meribo.... When i hear that name there is a unfathomable parch in my body to consume true excellence. It all started on the conquest for the core sin of gluttony. My first time at meribo was more of a heavenly retreat than a lunch. Upon arriving at the restaurant the atmosphere was unbeatable, enjoyable music playing, respectful staff, and most of all comfortable seating. I decide to order a classic, margherita pizza. The wait was well worth what I like to call the best pizza that has ever been served on this solemn earth. It was absolutely perfect... no other words. On the recent upcoming of the june month I had traveled to Italy, hoping to find something possibly better than the absolute perfection known as Meribo. I couldn't have been more wrong. Dare I even say Meribo has ruined my taste in pizza as I can never eat decent pizza again. Disappointingly on my Italy trip not ONE SINGLE AUTHENTIC PIZZERIA could even compare to the majesty known as Meribo.
