Doesn't get better than this! Plenty of parking, quality product (excellent matcha), and great staff! Huge bonus: the shop next door is very popular, gift and thrift. Watch out for their coffee too, it's some of the best in the state/valley! :)

Inside they have spots where you can purchase other people's artwork

We stopped on way out of town to grab cup of coffee and came to this cool spot. Great cup of coffee and very nice staff. They had bakery items that looked very good and big portioned.. the biggest choc chip cookie I have seen and a banana nut bread slice that was thick and looked delicious!! Few people sitting indoors in booths catching up on their day as well as some cute outdoor seating.

If I could give it more stars I would!!! Amazing staff, amazing storefront, amazing coffee!! I walked in today after driving by heading to Starbucks. I promptly asked my bf to turn around so we could try this local small roaster- and BOY AM I GLAD. Upon walking in the store is full of greenery and life. Very clean, and welcoming. I wanted to try something new and spring like- so the berry lavender latte it was. I got the largest iced ice (20oz) and wish they had larger. I asked for it less sweet than usual (2 pumps of French raspberry syrup and 2 pumps lavender) and ordered half oat milk and half macadamia milk. PERFECT crisp spring flavor without being overbearing and the milk was *chefs kiss* the owner is very knowledgeable of the best combos and knew the flavor profiles of her drips. My boyfriend got a class drip dark roast drip coffee with chocolate notes. He got a blueberry muffin warmed up and it didn't last very long- no dairy free or gluten free pastries sadly. I got a tiny lil chocolate bar with oat milk and coconut sugar. I will be back tomorrow:)

We stopped here on a road trip due to the reviews about the quality of their coffee and I'm glad we did! Their drip coffee and espresso are so wonderful and the flavor was delicious. We went back for seconds and even left with a bag for the house. I would suggest sticking to their coffee though as I wasn't the biggest fan of the matcha latte I got. The flavor was a bit off and it just wasn't the quality of matcha I was hoping for. It wasn't bad by any means but I wouldn't get it again. The atmosphere here was great though and it was a wonderful place to get some work done and relax for a bit. It wasn't too loud and there is a great restaurant attached to it that you can grab a quick bite from as well!

Black Sheep has the great atmosphere of a coffee shop... somewhere you want to bring your laptop and friends and lounge for days... But oh... Merge Coffee Roasters... that's exactly what they are... small batch roasters with a keen palate for the notes of coffee that can often be roasted out or purchased at a cheaper farm or estate... but not Merge... I love the tomato acidity of the Kenya Lenana with its honey like sweetness and full body. They also are the winners of the Golden Bean bronze medal for 2019... so you know that their Ethiopia Gera Estate is going to be complex and floral and the natural process clearly brings out a fermented acidity... I think most causal drinkers won't like it... but those that love to venture into the tasting and deciphering of complex notes! I couldn't recommend the coffee from Merge more! As a coffee fanatic... this is my go to place for complex coffee roasts that is done with care and love for coffee!

Can there ever be too many locally owned coffee shops in one community? Don't make me laugh. Each…read morereflects a ambiance, bean(s), roast (if they're also a roastery), and menu offering that is all their own. And of course more shops equate to more locations while walking around to discover (then continuously support) all things caffeinated. And such it was when I first visited the 'Burg over a year ago. I wondered streets and alleyways in search of a pour over, Americano, and of course a bag (or three) of beans to take home. And in doing so I stumbled upon Chestnut. At that time they were next door to Magpie (which was where I was headed) so I popped in. Chemex in use, beans being stirred in the back (part of the roasting process), and an aroma that feels like a warm blanket to my soul. Since that first visit they have moved over to Liberty Mercantile (across the street and in the basement) and expanded their space. But their quality remains top notch. I say that on behalf of their pour overs, espresso, and lattes. And beside it, their customer service. Always a smiling face and willingness to chat about all things Harrisonburg. I highly recommend you stop in and try them for yourself!

It is in the basement of the Liberty Mercantile, which is well marked once you find it. I went there with the intention of looking for some fresh-roasted beans to take home to use in my recently purchased espresso machine. What I found is a simple, yet perfectly curated coffee shop with very knowledgeable employees who just love coffee! I got a great recommendation on a Mexican blend, which was only roasted a few days before my purchase. They were even actively roasting beans when we were there! I decided to get a freshly made latte while I was there for the ride home, and needless to say, the coffee was absolutely phenomenal! I will be sure to continue to purchase from this family-owned business in the future for great tasting coffee!

Simply put, the bodega breakfast sandwich might be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever eaten. I took it to eat on the road and was startled about how delicious it was. I think it was because they enjoyed working there. Or, at least it give them a chance to eat some really tasty food. I had their Cubano Tartine. That's kind of like an omelet with the ingredients of a Cubano sandwich, except for the roll, mixed in. (And yes, I get that the cooking process is a bit different.) ' Anyway, this Cubano Tartine shows up on a plate in front of me. I dig in and keep digging. The ingredients, ham, cheese, pickles, etc, were plentiful and delicious. They were sitting on an ample slice of their sourdough bread. That was the first issue. It was IMPOSSIBLE to cut. I guess I could have asked for a steak knife or maybe a power tool. But, there was so much other stuff that I was able to have a very filling meal without it. The other issue was that the lightly dressed side salad was doused in dressing. Again, didn't complain because, for me, it wasn't a problem during this visit. Issues aside, if I come back to Hagerstown, I'll look for an excuse to come back.

I ordered the El Diablo Latte, and it was phenomenal. The cayenne and ancho brought a gentle warmth, the cinnamon and vanilla rounded it out, and the chocolate and espresso tied it all together beautifully. Spiced, smooth, and perfectly balanced. I also had a V60 pour-over of their seasonal Costa Rican single origin, and it was incredibly clean and expressive. I genuinely tasted the pomegranate and hibiscus notes, with a subtle cocoa finish. Bright without being sharp -- just a really well-executed cup. The triple ginger scone was the perfect pairing with the latte -- tender inside, lightly crisp outside, and warmly spiced without overpowering. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, the space was welcoming, and the quality across the board was top-tier. My only suggestion? Stickers. I'd absolutely put one on my laptop. Highly recommend.

The barista gave my drink away so I asked if my drink would be ready soon and she told me that someone must have taken it, she then promptly made the latte. The bagel was cold and dry, even with the cream cheese. The latte however was moderately enjoyable. Overall, I will not be returning.
