Last weekend I was shopping around for the best deal on a new Elantra. I spoke to Sou in hope of getting good service and a good deal. Long story short, he called me on Monday morning and told me that he couldn't get as good of a deal as the guys here in Modesto could, so it's okay for me to just buy from Modesto. I accepted this and did, in fact, go down to the Modesto Hyundai to purchase my new car. As I was waiting to make my purchase, Sou called back and told me he got me a better deal and to come down to Merced. I asked about the deal, I asked to see proof of this approval, I asked him to just email it to me really quickly as Merced is a bit of a drive from Modesto and I didn't want to waste my time. Instead of just simply sending a quick email with my approval, he decided to raise his voice at me, tell me he will drive to Modesto to pick me and proceeded to loudly argue "if I'm willing to drive to Modesto to pick you, shouldn't that be proof enough?" Sorry, no. I asked him SEVERAL times to please just send me my approval via email. After a while of arguing back and forth, he text me a photo of an approval and then called me. And called me. And called me again. And he actually called me SO MANY TIMES that I literally couldn't even use my phone to do anything besides decline call after call after call. He didn't allow me the time to go over the form, to discuss my options with my sister who had taken me to he dealership. He then sent me a text crap talking the dealership in Modesto and just continued to call and leave several voicemails. It was literally at the point of harassment and ended up being the reason I chose to buy from Modesto instead, where they didn't keep pressuring me, they didn't keep harassing me. They allowed me the time to make my own choice. I felt INCREDIBLY uncomfortable dealing with Sou. Marty called me today to inquire about gaining my business and I informed him that I had chosen to go to the Modesto dealership and explained why. He transferred me to the general manager, Gilbert. I explained how much Sou called and how uncomfortable the whole experience made me feel, to which he replied "that's a job well done, im going to give him a pat on the back". I thought he was being sarcastic at first and asked if he was being serious... he told me that he was being totally serious. Do you really think it's a job well done to harass potential customers to the point of losing a sale? I explained that I'm in sales also and I've never found it to be good practice to harass my customers. He then told me that I should talk to my boss about how we go about making sales because in his opinion, being aggressive is the right way to go. Unfortunately, Gilbert doesn't seem to understand that difference between being an aggressive salesman making good, honest sales and harassing customers to the point of either scaring them away or making them feel uncomfortable and pressured into making a large purchase. Gilbert was incredibly rude and then hung up on me. If this is their standard practice and how they decide to conduct business, I'm extremely glad that I didn't make the mistake of purchasing a car there and essentially being stuck with with them for a long time. When I called back and asked to speak with someone besides Gilbert, I was informed that the only other boss man there is the owner. I asked to talk to the owner and, of course, I couldn't because according to Marty, "he's never in the office". Also, turned out that Sou ran my credit more times than most people would run it in 5 years. Even after I expressed my concerns about getting too many hard inquires. I regret ever going on Edmonds and inquiring about one of their cars. read more

Should of read the reviews before even had considered stopping at this place then have these "locals" which represent the town terribly if you ask me but have them laugh over the phone, having the doors literally closed on my fiancé and our daughters, not to mention the comments the manager made as I walked away, unnecessary childish behave. I'm not sure what the beef is with the other reviewers, we had a great used car purchase experience at Merced Hyundai. Our transaction started online with several back and forth emails. I was able to negotiate an agreeable price with Pao, the online sales manager. An appointment to see the car was arranged and I was assured that the car would be pulled off the lot. When we arrived the following day for our appointment we were greeted by Pao and professionally handed over to Cezar for a thorough explanation and examination of the vehicle. After a test drive it was back to the dealership. Cezar had been briefed about the price negotiation so there was no haggling. It still took three hours to complete paperwork, but at the end of the long morning our daughter drove off with a beautiful 2011 Sonata. read more

One star only because I can't give zero or negative stars! I had a similar experience as a previous poster. Was promised a certain price over the phone by Fabian Jimenez, drove 40 miles one way to get there. After 1 1/2 hrs of dancing around with the test drive and paperwork, he finally told us that he couldn't give us the price he promised us. When I explained that wasn't acceptable since we had driven all that way for the promised price (I had informed him over the phone of the price offered by the Hyundai in our town and his price was $100 less), he got his Sales Manager, Fernando Torres, who came out clearly unwilling to negotiate. He literally yelled at me and told me he didn't believe the other dealership was willing to give us the deal I told them about. Well they did the next morning when I bought the car from them! And when I called the following Monday to speak to the General Manager (Sales), Gilbert Hernandez about the experience, he was just as bad as Fernando (disrespectful, immature, aggressive, rude) and just trying to cover his boys' backs- kept interrupting from the start and didn't even let me speak, then got huffy with me for being annoyed at the entire situation. When he found out I had already bought a car, he hung up on me!! Clearly he has no concern whatsoever of the lack of customer service happening right under his nose. What a bunch of unprofessional amateurs!! Trust me, do your car buying somewhere else!! Go to Modesto Hyundai instead, they will give you a great deal and will treat you right!! read more

If I could give this dealership a "0" I would. July 31, 2019, our 2013 Sonata engine seized while we were on vacation. AAA towed the car to the Merced Hyundai dealership and we rented a car. We were told they would check with Hyundai USA to see if it was related to the problem we had received a letter about earlier, where engines manufactured at the Alabama plant could seize or catch fire. It was, and Hyundai authorized replacement of the engine. For the 5 weeks that our car was in Merced (we live in the Los Angeles area) WE had to call for updates. Only twice in the entire 5 week period did the dealership call us. (Hyundai finally authorized a rental car, and eventually reimbursed us for the cost we paid for the first two weeks' rental.) We picked the car up on September 6 and it was filthy, both inside and out. The dealer had left the car with windows down in their back lot for most of the time they had the car. They said they had washed it (didn't look at all like it had been washed). Within a week of returning home we had to take the car to the dealer where we bought it because the smell of gasoline was so strong it was making us ill. The Merced dealer had improperly installed the fuel rail, and our dealership had to replace it. Not long after that we had to have the turbo and the catalytic converter replaced because of a major oil leak into the turbo. Hyundai covered it as a warranty item (90%/10%), but it was directly attributable to the shoddy work done in Merced when they rebuilt/replaced our engine. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. Their service advisor wouldn't even call our dealership back to talk to them about the repairs that were needed on our car. read more

Most unprofessional "car dealership" I have ever encountered. A bit of a joke actually. I found myself at the Merced Hyundai lot in Merced, CA. After a day of the standard back and forth I did decide to make a purchase. After dropping over $16K for a vehicle I got a nice surprise when I got home. While checking the air pressure on the tires I noticed that ALL four tires were different (yes, all different manufacturers). I could not make this up if I wanted to...I quickly called the sales person (Saan) who claimed he knew nothing and then passed me to the "manager" Fernando. Fernando preceded to tell me he was not responsible for the service department and that this was standard practice for them. I do plan on pursuing this through the BBB as I believe this is a safety issue as well as another way Merced Hyundai can gouge you for a few more bucks...shame on them!!! Update - I have sense contacted Hyundai "Customer Service" to file a complaint. The two reps I spoke with were both appalled but at the end of the day referred me back to Merced Hyundai. They assured me I would be contacted by a manager but still nothing...they call this this "Hyundai run-a-round" Corporate tells me I need to work with the site and the site tells me to speak wit customer service...nice!! I would not recommend these guys to my worst enemy! read more

Pass it up! I have never been in such an uncomfortable situation. The people who worked there were SO rude, they said my disabled mother was a complete waste of their time. So, she had questions about buying a car... isn't it in their job description to answer all questions appropriately and politely? Have never been given such horrendous customer service. Don't waste you're time. Ripp off. I wanted to buy local. I already obtained prices several thousand dollars below sticker from other dealerships. At this dealership most cars have an added mark up of 2,500. The salesman was nice, and anxious to make a sale. I drove the last 2015 on the lot and he told me I could get a great deal. I let him know before, don't even consider the mark up as part of the negotiations. He began negotiations by telling me the cost out the door based on the added markup and then suggested that he could definitely get $700 off of that price. I reminded him to completely eliminate the markup. I then offered a price $3,000 below sticker consistent with what I already was offered by other dealerships. In the end they wanted to take only about $1,000 off the price and try to let me know what a great deal I was getting on last year's model. A real waste of time. It was worth driving an hour to save $4,000 for the same car. read more

Unfortunately, my experience with Merced Hyundai was terrible. After agreeing in writing to a price on a new vehicle with the internet sales manager, I was told by the salesman they could not sell the car for the agreed price, after I drive two hours to make the sale, and the internet sales manager had gone home. It appeared to me they were trying to do a "bait and switch." I showed the written agreement to the salesman, and then they said I could not get the color I wanted, despite being promised otherwise. I eventually purchased the vehicle, and the finance manager repeatedly flubbed the paperwork, including misspelling my wife's name and printing the paperwork on a Spanish language template (we speak only English), and this process took longer than it should have. After arriving home with the vehicle, I discovered a piece of equipment that was supposed to be with the vehicle was missing. The dealership also later notified me they made a mistake and did not charge me enough in DMV fees. I called the general manager, Gilbert Hernandez, about these issues and he refused to fix them further blaming me for not doing an inventory on the vehicle before I purchased it! At no point was the dealership apologetic or professional, and I am now in the process of making a complaint to Hyundai corporate headquarters, the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General's Office. I will never do business with this dealership again and would encourage anyone else to avoid them as well. read more

From the time I spoke with Troy over the phone, to driving away in my brand new Elantra...I was beyond satisfied. I have never experienced such fast, dedicated and friendly service. Sent over my application via the internet and had an approval within 30 minutes. Once I arrived at the dealership I was greeted by Saan and he escorted me in to see Troy. Troy had already worked the numbers so Saan took me on a test drive. While on the test drive, Saan explained the car to me from hood to trunk...in GREAT detail!! In the beginning I liked the car we took on a test drive but I didn't LOVE it. When we returned to the dealership, there was one that had gotten right off the truck and it had way more amenities. I fell in love!! Troy and Gilbert worked diligently to get me into that car, as it was a little more pricey. Once I signed on the dotted line, it was the most amazing feeling ever!! I give so much credit to this dealership. My dad had sold cars for over 20 years, so I knew from the gate, they were not trying to swindle me. I felt like family.
