Matcha highball, purple haze
Ashley L.

! Vancouver! My partner and I stopped in after our anniversary dinner and were warmly welcomed by the host. The atmosphere is wonderful and inviting. We tried two of their signature drinks: the Matcha Highball and the Purple Haze. The Matcha Highball was a delight, smooth and easy to sip while still letting all the flavors shine through. The Purple Haze, however, was a little tough for us. It tasted strongly of brandy, and while it included Torres 10 brandy, hojicha Pedro Ximenez sherry, buckwheat, and taro milk foam, the hojicha was barely noticeable and the taro foam quickly disappeared. Maybe it was just our palates, but we found ourselves drinking it quickly just to finish. That said, I'd definitely return to try more of their creative drinks and snacks, as the rest of the menu looks very promising.

Giving this restaurant 3/5 only because the service, vibe, and cocktails were great. Food wise, unfortunately, was a big miss for me. The cold soba noodles were drenched in sesame oil. The fideua had very crispy noodle pieces that were almost inedible. The most disappointing dish was definitely the basque cheesecake; it tasted like melted brie. I would not recommend eating here.

This place has popped up in every food media outlet I follow, so I wanted to experience it myself. Expectations were high being the sister restaurant of Kissa Tanto. I luckily got in without a reservation (it was around 6 on a weekday in late June). If Kissa Tanto is the poised older sibling, Meo is the broodier alt-girl, but without the judgy attitude. Once your eyes adjust to the dark, sit back and bask in the retro space. The service is chill, but they are also well-versed on the menu, so if you ask questions you'll get some very thoughtful responses. To drink, I started with the Rhubarbella -- campari, marjoram, rhubarb, and lemongrass. It was bitter and a little tart. Later, to pair with dessert, I had the Golden Devine -- tequila, Americano, white peach, cacao nib, and ginseng -- which was a lot lighter and sweeter than my previous drink. Of the two, I preferred the Golden Devine, though I didn't care for the sticky, sugary candy garnish. All of the food was top-notch. The plating of the patata brava (crispy potato with spicy salsa brava and aioli) made it easy to share, the lamb yakiniku (essentially a Japanese, grilled skewer) on special was lip-smacking good, and the fideuà (Spanish seafood and noodle dish) was a showstopper when it hit the table. But nothing compared to the Basque cheesecake. Without a doubt, it was the best version of that kind of cheesecake I've ever had. My spoon glided over the top, smooth as silk, collecting rich, ultra-creamy goodness. Every bite was satisfying. It never got cloying. And the preserve on the side (lychee, I think) added a bright contrasting flavour. I would go back just for this cheesecake. I'd cry if it came off the menu. Other considerations: - space between seats is tight, so I'd advise against bringing large bags or totes - washrooms are down a flight of stairs (so, unless there's a hidden elevator I don't know about, they're inaccessible) - ^^ speaking of accessibility, warning there's also a small step from the entry to the dining space - it gets loud. You will have to speak up to be heard, even just across the table

The Meo cat painting. Great backdrop for our dining experience.

Wow! We loved Meo! The food, the ambience, the service were all tops. We reserved their largest table for a staff dinner, under the cat painting. The waiter was so friendly and gracious. He asked us our food preferences and omissions and asked if he could pick for us. It felt like a private tasting menu. We loved it! The milk bread was something else, same with the burgers. Some colleagues had to leave before dessert. Their loss as there was more for us and that was the highlight for me. One after the other, yum, yum! A feast for my palate! Can't wait to go back.

Excellent ambience, food was great, the drinks were a solid 8.5/10. Overall, great service and experience. The pink aesthetic got me ;)

A sister restaurant to Kissa Tanto right below them. We came right when they opened at 5pm. Which was nice because it was empty and we were able to have a normal conversation with out having to yell. The drinks were all very interesting, classic cocktails with a twist. We thought the food was a bit pricey and it didn't feel cohesive with the drinks. I'd come back for the drinks, but maybe not so much on the snacks.

We started out with different drinks and ended up with rounds of pillow talk. This is the best drink here.

We came here for a Winnie the Pooh Afternoon Tea. Oh my goodness...it far exceeded my expectations!…read moreHats off to the kitchen staff for coming up with such a creative and whimsical afternoon tea. First thing that caught my eye was the cover of the afternoon tea menu. It was red with a picture of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin printed upon it in a shiny gold colour. When flipped over, it had the menu for the afternoon tea printed upon it. I was super impressed that they even had a separate menu printed for Vegetarians. (I opted for a Vegetarian menu). There was a cute little ceramic jar that was shaped like a Honey pot, and it had sugar cubes in it! Then there was this booklet that was pages long, and divided into Chapters. It was basically the menu again, but in the form of a small book. Each Chapter of the book described different foods from the afternoon tea. The last chapter listed all the different tea flavors one could choose. When we sat down and read this menu, I heard more than one person at the table say that they wanted to take this menu home. Guess what? For the price of $25, one could take this menu home as a memento of this extraordinary afternoon tea? Maybe I'm a bit of a sucker, but how often does one get to go to an afternoon tea as special as this? And I've always been a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh. So I coughed up the $25 and brought one of these menus home with us! Food was sooo good. I loved how warm the scone was when I cut it open. This was one of my favourite items. The sandwiches were amongst my favourites as well. As phenomenal as the experience was, I do think there are a few things which could have improved the experience. For one, a bit more service would have been appreciated. I had to wave my hand in the air to get our server's attention so that I could ask her to refill our tea pots with more hot water. Would have been nice if she'd just come around a bit more often and offered to top it up for us. Tea cozies on our tea pots might have been another improvement. A lot of my tea cooled down by the time I got to it. I like my tea hot but I didn't get in very many cups of hot tea as there was a lot of food to eat and by the time I was ready to pour myself some tea to wash down my food, the tea was...not so hot anymore. Oh, and while most of the food was appropriately sized, there was this one chocolate cookie sandwich that was really gigantic and suggested to be eaten last. We were so full already from all the other foods in the afternoon tea, and then to squeeze that giant cookie sandwich in...right at the end? A smaller and daintier cookie sandwich would have been preferred. It was overall a truly phenomenal experience. Yes, I do think it could have been slightly better, but I do emphasize the word "slightly". The points lost were so minor...I would still highly recommend this afternoon tea to anyone. It was well worth the money. It's offered every weekend for now but not sure how long they'll keep this around so if you're interested in a Winnie the Pooh themed afternoon tea, I'd make a reservation for it ASAP!

The setting is cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Staff was lovely and we were not rushed. Unfortunately they require full payment at the time of booking including a tip % automatically applied. I find this quite distasteful. It is one thing to pay a deposit to secure our spot ....but asking for the tip for a service yet to be provided is terrible. My friend really wanted to go and therefore I agreed to it this one time but I would never do it again.

We sat indoors with the option to be seated outdoors with heated lamps but we didn't want to smell the smoke from people smoking outside. We ordered the Dark Spell Latte, Albedo Spritz, and Final Word. The Dark Spell Latte is like an espresso martini with chocolate syrup added, which is pretty solid. The Albedo Spritz is a red wine cocktail with hard liquor, and stood out to me as they had 5oz of alcohol so this was fairly strong, but I would imagine most of the ounces came from the wine itself. I liked the gold dusted blackberry. The Final Word is fruity and smoky, which I enjoyed, but not warrant a hefty price tag compared to the other drinks. Service is decent and in line with other restaurant bars. Overall, solid drinks at okay prices that I can see myself recommending this spot. Given the name, it would be great to see more alchemy themed cocktails or decor as what draws me as a frequent bar goer is themed and unique drinks.

This was fine with us since the goal was to have a couple of drinks and stuff ourselves with some burgers and fries from Hundy (the burger joint we needed to go through to get to Stock Room). I started with the dangerous liaison cocktail (beefeater gin, peach, lemon, sugar, butterfly pea flower). This was a solid drink, refreshing and hit the spot. My second drink was spreadsheet (beefeater, st. germain, lime, strawberry syrup, green strawberry bitters). I enjoyed this drink better as it wasn't too sweet and the flavor profile was more to my taste when it comes to cocktails. I'm happy to have found another bar to add to my list of places to grab a good drink in Vancouver.
