I showed Kyle MULTIPLE pictures of the shape/style I wanted and specifically said I did not want my hair to have a choppy, V-shape. This is EXACTLY what I got. Immediately after leaving, I went to another hair stylist in an attempt to correct be disaster. Kyle thinned my hair so badly that the other stylist was shocked. While my hair was being colored, I was very uncomfortable because the two stylists were speaking about me in their native tongue. Even the color, which I was initially happy with, came out uneven in the back. Kyle seemed like a nice guy, but in retrospect, I should have refused to pay the $180 for this horrendous experience. Receptionist asked if she can assign me with someone else. I said anyone but Jimmy (owner). My son and I had him once before and he did not do a good job. When I walked in today, they gave me Leo. He took over Allen's station. I asked for 2" off with lots of layers to give my hair some volume since I have very thin hair. Leo showed me how much he would cut off and I gave him the go ahead. I thought Asians are supposed to be great at math but holy shhhh he started cutting and cutting and cutting and it got shorter and shorter. At this point it was hard for me to say something. Pretty sure that he cut off FIVE whole inches. Not only did he cut off 5" but the layers he gave me were very choppy, it looks like he hacked it with a saw. The receptionist came by to sweep up my hair with a dust pan and my eyes were bugging out because I was in shock at how much he cut off. I spend an obscene amount on high quality hair products at home to keep my hair healthy. Now it looks like shhhh. Never in my entire life have I ever gotten such a bad cut. I know it's just hair and it will grow back but I felt I need to write this review to warn others. When layers are trimmed, it should fall softy and naturally. He also thinned out my ends so much that it looks weird. OMG!! I can't!! The strange thing is, all the best stylist at this salon, Allen, Ben, Jackie left. As I'm not familiar with the area, I found this salon per Yelp. It was a life saver and great choice! First off, I arrived 30 mins earlier hoping the salon was open so I'd be done on time for a special occasion. The location was easy to find as it's located on a strip of stores a few minutes away from the NJ transit with paid street parking in front. Surprisingly the salon was open and there were already customers getting work done. The salon itself was very clean, spacious and well lit with natural light. I was happily greeted by my hair and makeup stylist Christina. I didn't have any expectations since it was last minute and my first time at this salon. Christina was easy to work with and very upbeat and explanatory when it came to her process. I felt like I was conversing with a friend which made me feel at ease and not worked up from the afternoon's activities. She immediately got to business with my hair and was open with experimenting with my length as I did not have a clue how to get the style I wanted and left the figuring out to the expert. I had two photo references and was open to whatever she could do to achieve a similar effect. She did hit the look for the hair with an additional twist which took the most time due to a little experimentation with a bit of improvisation. After she nailed it, onto makeup. Again, I showed her the photo reference and explained what I wanted to attain; Christina pulled out her case of makeup and went about her artistry. With all the proper COVID safety protocols, she had explained that the palettes and lipstick were new and all brushes were cleaned. She always kept a positive mindset even on a time crunch. See, I FUBARed my hair last summer when I was ambitious and impulsive and angry at my thick unruly hair... and attempted a very poorly done DIY pony tail cut. Like it looked like a three layer cake. Lots of regret but since I WFH and really let myself go after covid/kids, I never did anything about it until today. Well Larry done fixed it. He did give me a slight lecture (in Chinese so it felt less disappointing) but he smoothed and layered and thined my hair... and then blew dried it and made me all pretty again.
