See, I FUBARed my hair last summer when I was ambitious and impulsive and angry at my thick unruly hair... and attempted a very poorly done DIY pony tail cut. Like it looked like a three layer cake. Lots of regret but since I WFH and really let myself go after covid/kids, I never did anything about it until today. Well Larry done fixed it. He did give me a slight lecture (in Chinese so it felt less disappointing) but he smoothed and layered and thined my hair... and then blew dried it and made me all pretty again. My husband and I have been going to Larry for more than 15 years. He's extremely skilled with scissors and is very nice and kind as well. I have recommended several of my friends and they have also became loyal customers because Larry is just that good. I'm East Asian, my husband is White and the friends that I recommended were Indian and Bi-Racial... so Larry is good with all types of hair. Just show him the picture and he'll do his best. He's extremely skilled with the scissors and is careful to listen to exactly what you want. He's never cut off more than I asked him to. His salon is no frills, he's there to cut your hair, you don't pay extra for ambiance and that's why he doesn't cost an arm and a leg. We've always been more than satisfied. The review by Ariana was just ridiculous. The hairstyle that she asked for is curled, styled and colored. I've had curtain bangs and long layers before and my hair is past my waist. If it's not curled and styled, it's not going to look like a 'curled and styled' picture, which is why her hair looks the way it is... just cut. If you want it curled and styled, you need to pay for that because only a basic blowout is included in a regular wash and cut. Once it's curled and styled, it'll look closer to that picture. Also, why blur out your face? It's visible right on your profile. A lot of hair salons only accept cash, they would have to raise the price if they took credit cards because there are processing fees associated with that. Silly complaints by a one time customer. Great experience at this salon this afternoon! The coronavirus has definitely slowed down businesses, but Larry is continues with his dedicated nature to serve his clients. With around 30 years of experience, Larry does a great job - very meticulous and detailed in his cuts! I have especially thick hair and hadn't gotten a haircut in about a year. He took the time to go through my hair multiple times to cut it short, add layers, thin it out, dry it, etc... Appreciate all his hard work! Came here to get a perm and haircut. This is my first yelp review ever - it usually takes a lot for me to give a bad review. First of all this place is super dingy and unsanitary. The person washing you hair is constantly spitting out mucus and burping. When they applied permed solution to my hair, they forgot to add a protectant (they later admitted that they wanted to save time because I had short hair). This caused my scalp to literally burn and bleed in some areas. Also the perm was supposed to help my hair go from left to right. Afterwards, I found it really difficult to do my hair in the mornings (a perm is supposed to make it quicker in my past experience) because my hair would simply not go in one direction. It would only go upwards which made it look super puffy. I called the owner to let him know but he did not seem concerned at all. He made no effort to remedy things and simply did not care. I was quite happy to find this salon from a coworker's recommendation, because I thought her short bob looked great. Larry is the stylist, he takes his time and great care while he's cutting. He knows to layer Asian hair and make it wispy very well. The only minus is that the salon is a bit dingy and the bathroom is not so great. But for $35 a cut for my long hair (vs $47 I used to pay in Boston), I do come back every 2 months. Definitely worth it. read more

Just moved up to Edison, NJ from Los Angeles, CA. If there is one thing that's hard to find here in Edison, it is a decent hair cut. Thanks to this place, I can say I've filled that void. Larry is the main guy, that the guys before me was talking about, but I got my hair cut by his assistant (another guy), who only speaks mandarin. I don't speak a word of mandarin, but we got through with sign languages and I came out satisfied. The cost of the hair cut was $19, not too sure how much Larry would have charged if he cut my hair. I think it's fairly reasonable if you don't need a super complicated haircut. You know they can cut asian hair when they actually dish out the hair thinner scissors, and they definitely do not dissappoint. This place gets all 5 stars from me. Five thumbs up. Muy Fantastico. For the record, I'd give this place a 4.5 vs a 4 star, but Yelp doesn't allow half stars. It truly was a great place and experience with very little credit lost as described below. Location/Accessibility : As long as you have a car, then depending on where you're coming from, it's easily accessible. It's along a main road in an area with a lot of businesses. Parking lot is certainly of sufficient size! Unfortunately, it's not really easy for me, personally, to get to, simply because I live in the city. Ambience : This is where the salon loses some star credit, but very little. If I could only dock half a star, I would. It's a really basic salon with no eye candy, so to speak. It doesn't really look professional and I suppose I'm used to more upkeep, but it does have the essentials. It also has couches (although they are worn, it is still appreciated) and a tv for those who have to wait. Considering how large the space is and how many chairs there are, I'm surprised that there aren't more stylists. However, I suppose that there are lots of things about that type of business that I'm unaware about (rent, finding good help, overhead, etc). While not one of those trendy nor upscale salons, it is clean enough and it does the job. Service : Larry is the owner and primary stylist. I believe he has someone come in on the weekends to help, but throughout the week, it's just him and a helper. I think it says a lot when you have clients follow you, which is his story. He worked at a salon before, but then started this one up, and lots of his clients left the previous salon to stay with him. He was very very nice to take me, as I came in with my boyfriend's mom for her appt, just hoping that he might have time for a hair cut in between her color. Things didn't go quite as I had assumed for her appt, and we were crunched for time, but he still made time for me and got me out in time. I must say, I was incredibly worried. 1 ) I haven't been able to get a hair cut that I was happy with for years until a month before leaving Boston in April. 2 ) I was worried that he would be rushed. Those things being said. The haircut that I received here dwarfed the cut that I was finally happy with in Boston after years and years of being unhappy. This is by far the best cut that I've ever received as far as structure, transition, and flow. Even with a limited amount of time, the cut is superb. The best parts about it are : 1) the transition from the back being stacked to the sharp angle in front (A-line cut), in which most stylists have flat out failed at this. 2) how it was texturized. He made sure to adjust all of the right parts that are typically bulky without thinning it out too much. Again, most stylists have failed at doing this properly. Side note about the helper who washed my hair : I did get some suds in my ears, but who doesn't appreciate a nice wash with a head massage. This may have been my favorite part, despite the suds. Good to know : Cash Only! This is definitely where I will continue to go while I'm still (relatively) in the area. It's certainly worth the trip every so often for a cut that is AFFORDABLE and of high quality. I'm used to paying $55 starting price without tip for a crappy cut. Here, the cuts start at $25 or 28 I believe? Very worth it, and I would highly recommend based on service, which in the end is what really matters. read more

Been going here for two years ago and have always been happy with my cuts. Larry's (owner) scissorsmanship is unrivaled in this neighborhood when it comes to Asian hair. He's Taiwanese and speaks Mandarin and Cantonese. It's tough to get an appointment on the weekends if you don't call early in the week. Today, Mr. Wang washed my hair, but there used to be 2 nice girls on the weekends. If you're an Asian guy or girl, and are in the Edison area, definitely give this a shot. read more

I've been getting my haircut for the past 20 years with Larry. He is simply the best. You will not find a better value for what you pay, and Larry can do any advanced hairstyle. I just tell him shorter, and he just takes it away give me a super modern and stylish do. I've been here a few times and the quality of the haircut really depends on who you get. Usually the owner cuts my hair; he does a fantastic job cutting and styling. Unfortunately, today he was busy with a client, so I ended up with another hair stylist. I showed him photos of how I wanted my hair cut, and it came out nothing like what I showed him. The model in the photo had large curls, and layered bangs swept to one side. The stylist...straightened my [permed] wavy hair. He also didn't layer my bangs either or thin out the back enough. I tried telling him how different it looked from the photo, but he kept saying that my hair is just straight and that's why it doesn't look the same. (well duh, cuz he straightened my hair). Not only did the cut not come out right, but he burned my scalp 3 times while blow drying my hair. The second time I flinched from the pain, he said, "Wow! Your skin is so sensitive!" But if you're willing to try out this place, I would highly recommend asking for the owner. read more
