That was my second highlighting that I did with Kyle. I will quick point what I like about this salon and especially about Kyle's job: 1) Kyle makes notes for himself what he made for you. So, when I had come, he knew what he did for me a year ago!!! 2) He is the only one who does all the work. He will color you, make a haircut, dry and wash your hair. I like it!!! 3) Kyle listens to you attentionally to be sure he understands exactly what you want. And if it is needed, he gives you an advice. 4) I like highlighting and haircut that he did for me! I got my haircut my Kyle on a Saturday. I made the appointment on I think a Monday or Tuesday? And it was pretty easy. I contacted Kyle through yelp and then through is personal phone. Very easy to book as well as he explained everything to me before hand as well as prices. I went 10 min early and was taken right away. Kyle himself washed my hair and gave me a cut.the whole process took about an hr. So first off I read that he didn't listen when you asked how much to cut off but he listened to exactly what I wanted. He cut my hair well and blended my layers in well together. If i can give this place 10 stars I would... I could not be any happier with my experience here. First of all, Coleman is a hair genius. He will listen to what you want and what look you're going for. I really appreciate that he takes his time for his clients as well. I didnt feel rushed at all, and he'll tell you upfront if he has time for you or not. I only went for a cut today, but he literally spent 2 hours making my hair look and feel healthy as well. Let me preface this review by admitting that I have absolute SALON PHOBIA since I was a child being traumatized by my mother taking me to get an "old asian lady perm" when I was 8 years old. I've been seeking a stylist for years and since I moved back to NJ 3 years ago have been unsuccessful. I've visited fancy places and then not so fancy (run of the mill asian salons) and always left with no feelings at all (not happy about my hair but not terribly upset). I found Coleman on YELP and visited him in February. He IS amazing!! What I liked about him the most is that he took the time to listen to my actual concerns and what my needs were (whether or not I had time to style my hair, etc). He instantly told me I definitely needed a low maintenance cut being that I was pregnant at the time. He's the solo stylist in the salon for now. He also gave me the best shampoo/massage ever (I felt like I was in a SPA). In the end I got exactly what I wanted without knowing what I wanted - a simple, low maintenance cut that's easy to style. Even better- he showed me how to style my hair (I truly appreciate stylists who take the time to do this). Will definitely be back! Came in June to get a haircut and I just had to come back before the end of the year. Got a last minute facial from Mabel before my appointment with Coleman and my skin has never looked better or felt more rejuvenated. She explained all procedures and let me know what each cream/treatment was for. The face massage was epic. She also took the time to explain after care and how to maintain healthy skin after the appointment. Coleman did a Keratin repair treatment and was also just as thorough. He took his time to make sure he didn't leave a strand of hair untouched. The process was almost 3 hours but we took breaks and laughed a bunch. He explained what each process was and how it would repair my hair. Not having touched my hair since I saw him last, he gave me a trim to get rid of split ends also. Overall, it's safe to say that my trips to the east coast will never be complete until I see Coleman and Mabel. My skin has never felt better and my hair has never looked silkier. This is my first visit to Salon de Coleman and the experience was awesome! I've been looking for a designer that meets my expectation since I moved into the area, but always ended up with miserable layers or weird bang...while all I wanted was a regular haircut with a bit style. As I sat down Coleman (I believe that was him..?) asked me how I wanted my hair cut, and he got it right away when I showed him the pictures with the style I wanted. He was chatting with me while doing my hair, and happened to give me some travel advice on California where I'll be visiting soon and he used to live there for 20 years or so. He also adviced me some hair care tips. When he was done I was really surprised that the cut was exactly how it is on the picture! He really did a great job on all the details. Wife written: I came here after reading the reviews. I am a natural brunette Who took herself blond this year after many salons wouldn't, or couldn't. My hair needed a great haircut and an overall dimension adding base for fall. I had hoped there were more color lines available here besides just Goldwell, which they used and it did come out nice. I just still think Wella offers more options and shade differentiators, especially for blonds. He used Olaplex for the color but I notice the bond 2 conditioner post treatment was not used which suppose only seals blonds AFTER the color treatment. So this is where I'd give 4.5 stars instead of the 5 plus the salon should offer their clients the Olaplex conditioner to bring home after purchase home to maintain no damage. His haircut was amazing, precise, clean. I have to grow out some upper layers and bleached ends so considering that, he did an amazing job while keeping enough length for me to pop in my hair extensions at the end. The scalp massage at shampoo bar was amazing. His wife who does facials and is a sweetheart who I mean to see next time! The salon is quiet, relaxing even, well decorated, ocean and they are hands on. It's not a chaotic kind if place where you feel tossed around and forgotten like bigger salons. Just completed my ritual of cutting off 10 inches every 2 years. Went for a long pixie but very specifically did not want to look like my mom. I booked a same day appointment and got my haircut by Coleman. He was just the right amount of chatty up front to find out what I wanted without being too pushy, and then took out the scissors to make the big cut. He also gave a really intense scalp massage during the shampoo. The cutting and shaping was very meticulous but not overly drawn out. I was out of there in 90 minutes with one of the best haircuts I've ever had. He said it should grow out well too so we shall see! read more

Maple is so wonderful in everyway. I see her once a month for a deep facial and she gets rid of my horrible acne, calms my dry and sensitive skin, trims my eyebrows, and finishes off with a nice massage. I'm not usually very particular with my hair but I had probably the most unpleasant experience at the salon yesterday. My hair was long- near my ribcage and I asked Kyle to just cut the damaged part but to still keep my hair long. I also asked for some layers. He then asks me if I wanted the layers to frame my face- I didn't really know what That meant so I told him yes. He proceeded to cut about 5 inches and now I have short layers all throughout my hair. read more

Coleman is great with one on one attention and giving great cuts. The issue is that he doesn't listen to what you are asking for & the price is now crazy high $60 from $45. I showed him pictures of what I wanted and he just goes ahead and cuts how he wants to cut it. It's happened twice. Luckily, like I said, he give great cuts so it came out pretty good both times in terms of shape. I did notice he is a little less exacting now 'cause he left two strands longer than the others and I had to fix it at home afterwards. Seems like he's kinda sick of his job or his life. He used to look excited and inspired...now he looks pained. A warning sign- if you love your medium length hair and ask for a styled trim and i SAID TRIM he will cut it short. AMAZING, AMAZING salon. I googled best hair salon in Edison. Was used to going to an excellent salon on Jersey City for years. Was dreading the change bec I'm VERY particular with my hair-- like it edgy in cut and color. I am Asian with blonde hair. Also, been lucky in having had a reasonably priced salon. I'm so GRATEFUL to find this place. KYLE CHANG IS AN AMAZING HAIR COLORISTt!! I came in with a grown out blonde. In my previous salon this takes almost 7 hours to lift and to tone (yes, crazy, I know). Kyle did it in 4.5 AND also gave me the PLATINUM BLONDE I've been dreaming of for years!! It is such a gorgeous, gorgeous color. What makes this even more remarkable is that my scalp did NOT burn at all in his process!! I have to tell you this in and of itself is quite a miracle. I normally deal with scratching the burn when it begins, the feel the full burn then get relief as it's being washed. This the experience with ALL the salons I've been to. Have had disasters, disaster corrections and finally thought I had found The One. Well, ladies, I was (happily) wrong. This is The One. Also must mention that Kyle cut my hair last week and I'm quite pleased with it as well. By the way, the owner, Coleman, had a client next to me who was there for the first time. Was SUPER impressed with how he handled her cut. She came in looking for a short cut, described. The cut he gave her was the bomb: sassy, short and sharp. It made her look 10 yrs younger. I just got my perm/body wave and cut today. I really love how it came out. Coleman took his time in trimming and styling my hair. The salon is very cozy and clean. I even had a complimentary espresso: great way to relax while waiting for my hair to perm. The only thing I didn't care for was the helper who washed my hair: it's not the typical massaging hair wash that I prefer. But, after the perm, Coleman gave me a nice hair/head massage. Afterwards, he even used a warm towel for under my neck. The heat relaxed the neck muscle. That was a first! Overall, I had a satisfied experience. I have even booked a facial for next week.
