Let me start by saying this - I am REALLY picky with my hair. I do not try new salons ever and I like things a very particular way. With that being said, Sahar was recommended to me by a friend for color and I decided to take the chance. I had never dyed my hair before and was so, so nervous, but I wanted something different (and needed to cover up some grays!). From the time I walked in, Sahar was so sweet (as were the others in the salon) and she spent time really listening to what I wanted and my concerns. She gave me the perfect blonde highlights to ease me into coloring my hair. Fast forward a few months, I decide to add some red, she does it perfectly! Recently, I wanted purple (I know, I know but I had many years of catching up to do!) and oh my it's exactly what I wanted. Subtle enough to remain "professional" but colorful enough to give me an edge. Plus, she recommends quality products and teaches you how to take good care of your color. That to me is going above and beyond for your clients. This review is long overdue, but I HIGHLY recommend Sahar for hair color. Bad Customer service! The man at front desk, probably the owner is really ..... stupid with funny rule of asking Depositing from customer for the service in making an appointment! He supposes to be calmed and patiently explaint to customer about his funny rules in this salon,there is no even any rules or anything posted on wall about that! Instead, he got mad at the customer rudely. Perhaps,this is the way he have been chasing away lots of customers since his salon is always looks emty! BEWARE: We purchased a Groupon for highlights and it Still cost me over $200.00. They have hidden mark up fees they charge at the end. thick hair, extra product, extra time....etc. they give you a price for a service and when all is said and done it' turns out to be double that price. I should have called the police and refused to pay for the service. I will NEVER go back nor will I ever recommend. I must admit, I am pretty high maintenance when it comes to my hair. I won't let just anyone touch my tresses, so after moving to NJ it wasn't until my hair had reached a state of emergency that I finally sought out a new salon. Cute, spunky, sophisticated... Salon Envy may be in sleepy Highland Park, but this is not your grandmother's beauty shop! (Although I'm sure they'd take good care of her, just the same. =P) I can always get an appointment within a day here, which is ideal for busy procrastinators like yours truly. When my bangs get so long they're practically not bangs anymore, I can pop in here for a FREE trim! and be looking good as new in just a few minutes. ($5 bangs trim for newbies; they're complimentary for repeat customers.) And Noel? Queen of scissors, I'd trust you to do pretty much anything with my ole mop. I usually bring my 11 year old to a barber so when I was in HP visiting my parents I did just that. Sadly, the barber had a bad day and gave my son the worst haircut. I mean, I was nearly in tears it was so bad. I walked right over to Envy, George took one look at my son and said, "sit down, I'll fix it" and he did!!!! I'm so relieved and grateful. I went to Salon Envy today for the first time ever to get a balayage but didn't have a clue as to what color would be best. Sahar and George were amazing in helping me decide on a color that I'd like. They were so patient and kind, and I love the way my hair turned out! After my appointment, I met up with my husband and a friend, and both of them said they loved my hair as well. I am looking forward to going back in 4 - 6 weeks to keep up with my hair. WORST SALON EVER!!!!! Would have gave it zero stars!!!! I went there today for highlights and a cut. My stylist was SAHARA (the worst and the most unprofessional stylist). I showed her a couple of pictures of what i was looking for and she said no problem. Long story, short. She did totally the opposite of what i wanted. When i told her i didn't like and that i wanted her to fix it she told me to pay and leave and when i said i am not leaving without my hair being fixed she threatened me that she was going to call the COPS. So unprofessional. I payed $180 for nothing. The manager did absolutely nothing. Didn't even try to fix it. She told me that the color will look different after a couple of washes. Okay let me start by saying I am totally traumatized by hair salons so much so that I hadn't gotten my hair cut in nearly ten years...crazy I know. Anyway, Sahar totally hooked it up! We cut almost twelve inches of hair off and she gave my hair the most awesome texture. As I was getting my hair cut she suggested that I try a color glaze on my hair and I was down with it. It turned out to be the most rich, copper mocha color ever and I couldn't have been happier with it. Sahar is also totally awesome and super fun to talk with it! The gentleman owner is also so nice! This one would have gotten a 5 star until I was hit hard with the bill.Unfortunately I had only vaguely known the service prices beforehand... I thought how expensive can a highlight and haircut be at a local Highland Park salon... 100? 150? I was shocked when I was charged $185 for highlight and haircut, especially when the latter was literally a few flicks here and there with the recommendation from the stylist not to do anything with my hair. Haircut itself was $55, basically for NOTHING. I argued this and the lady who ran the card just didn't budge. 55 bucks for what had to be 10 bucks was just daylight robbery!! In my state of shock I forgot to "mention yelp to get 10% off" so basically I brooded the whole day for what was my "day off at the salon". I will not be going back to this place just because they were so unreasonable on the pricing and didn't care for their customer. On the bright side (which was very overpowered by the above fiasco) Nina did an excellent job with the highlights. She recommended a color that was exactly what I wanted - subtle and sophisticated. I called on a whim last Saturday and they were able to fit me in a the last minute which I appreciated. I arrived and was informed that my stylist was running about 15 minutes late. I was offered a choice to leave and come back if I didn't want to wait...or a free deep conditioning treatment. I have waited much more than 15 minutes in a salon before so was very pleasantly surprised at the offer. I took them up on the deep conditioning treatment and it was wonderful! The haircut was good. It's something different for me so I think I need to give it some time, but I will be back! read more

A classy, professional salon located on main street Highland Park, I love Salon Envy because nearly every stylist has worked with my hair before and done a great job. I have super thick, dry hair that gets colored regularly, so I know it can be a lot to deal with. Every time I come in, I am complimented for wanting to switch things up and they always exceed my expectations with the color, especially! For someone who gets bored easily and is very indecisive about her hair, they always manage to keep me leaving happy and satisfied. My hair is always cut and styled in a way that sticks to what I know and love about my hair, but they just make it look so much neater and HEALTHIER. My color ranges between dark brown and auburn. The way they color my hair makes it eye-catching and rich with color no matter what the lighting is. Every time I get my hair done, without fail, I always receive compliments about the style, length, and/or color. Salon Envy knows what they're doing even for the most fickle lady, like myself, who has to keep my hair looking styled and attractive on a college graduate budget and in a professional career. So I've been doing my hair in Elizabeth, and my usual hairstylist ruined my hair when he bleached it, leaving me with split ends and i couldn't even run my fingers through it. Never again! I needed to find a new place to get my hair done and fixed as soon as possible. I decided to try Salon Envy and the service there was awesome. Noelle took good care of my hair. She suggested a deep conditioning for my bad ends and to keep coming back every two weeks for faster results. After a deep conditioning for the first time my hair felt like real hair again! The reason I have gone back is because the first time I went was for a correction. A friend had recommended another place that, unfortunately, did not do a very good dye job and cut, but another friend suggested Salon Envy and that has worked out great. i do not like to write bad reviews and i feel horrible doing so. but i did choose this salon based on the good reviews on yelp, so i must contest.. i recently moved to this area from north jersey and was getting my bangs cut at Whistle in the East Village, where i had an excellent stylist. unfortunately, she was away for a few days and since this was my only day off this week, i had to get my bangs trimmed today.. the staff was nice enough, but my stylist's skills were amateur. ive had many, many bad bangs cut until i discovered Whistle, so it's totally my fault for being impatient letting someone else touch my hair. first she drenched my bangs with water. then made one cut across. a couple little extra snips on one side. pollyanna poufed them up with a rounded brush and a hair dryer, then attempted to flat iron them back down.. and Voila! crooked poufy bangs. i quickly went across the street to the coffee shop bathroom and slapped water on them to flatten them back to normal. totally on a crooked slant, uneven, with lots of long-ish untrimmed pieces. ive made an appointment at another salon to fix them tomorrow morning since they were booked for the night.. im hoping that the stylists at this other salon are more experienced in a seemingly simple task.. i cant go into work tomorrow with these bangs.. =( read more

Nina was very nice but I had asked for a trim and somehow ended up with a sort of mullet. To be fair, I gave it a few days to settle, and it still looks unflattering and dated. I recently got my haircut at Salon Envy by George the owner. I had been letting my layers grow out and decided to go there(my son and his fiance love Salon Envy). I can't say enough about the time George spent on my haircut talking about how much he would take off and when the layers would all come together. I have never had such a positive one on one experience before. The salon is beautiful, clean and the staff are all fantastic and friendly. I loved how George took the time with me and really got a feel for what I wanted. I loved my hair and cut. Didn't really enjoy the blow out since I felt the girl who did it was not trained. I literally felt like she was pulling my hair and didn't want to do it. I didn't complain since I thought maybe it's the brush, but when George finished the front part I realized it was not the brush. Love the hair treatments and all the products. Honestly, it was nice but the prices for all of it was not worth it. I get the products are high end, but to me I was not expecting how much I was charged. So for thay I give it 4 stars. I went in with short, thin, ugly hair that had the adhesive glue still in it from when I tried to do my own tape in extensions and she did more than just fix it! She gave good advice and consultation as well beforehand on the hair cut that suits my face and made sure to follow a hairstyle that I wanted, and also recommended a good hair color. Make sure you bring some cash for tips, because they only charge exactly for the service rendered on the credit cards. She was very patient in her consultation and was genuinely happy to thoroughly explain how to better care for my hair and what products would work best for me. I got a haircut and a blow out. I got my hair cut here for the first time today and I really enjoyed the experience! My stylist, Maya, was really nice. She wasn't too chatty, which was fine by me, and she gave a great haircut and blew my hair dry very nicely. I printed out a coupon from their website, and went I went in, they also had a sign offering a student discount for new customers. This place is pricy, but you can definitely get a good deal if you're a new customer. The only downsides were that this salon has no receptionist, so the stylists kept having to walk away from the haircuts to answer the phone, and a random old woman showed up 45 minutes early for her appointment and creepily stared at me the whole time I was getting a haircut. read more
