this is my first yelp review and it will be a long one.
I usually don't bother with reviews if I've had a bad experience with a place.
But unfortunately, the experience I've had with this salon warrants a review.
I've come to this establishment a number of times, I usually see Ivy who to be honest does do a good job but she is one of the reasons I will not be coming back.
The first time I had an ill experience, I decided not to say anything, im just not the type of person to complain or start something,
But this is the second time that something has happened and now I just can't keep quite
I'm not sure how they are still running a business.
The first unpleasant incident I had was back in November I had made an appointment with Ivy who I have seen a couple of times before. I was her first client for the day
I came in on time, the second I sat in the chair I could sense her attitude shift. I thought ok maybe she is just not in a good mood its early.
Then I had my hair washed the stylist asked me if I wanted an extra conditioning treatment which takes an extra 10 minutes to do and I said yes sure. So the girl that does the shampoo washed and conditioned my hair and then sent me back to sit in my seat. Ivy then started to brush my hair, now I'm of south Asian decent so I have long thick hair. My Hair is extremely thick so its not the most fun hair to work with because it does take muscle to brush and blow dry it. And during the fall and winter it gets knotted in the back, this particular day it was pretty knotted in the back due to it being longer then I normally wear it. Now im also a mother of two and at the time of my hair cut I had a new born baby a few months old so I had not had the time to come 30 mins away and get my hair cut, so my hair did grow quite abit and had knotted up.
I could sense that Ivy was a little more than annoyed that my hair had been so long and knotted
She kept mentioning it in a nice way that you just need a hair cut, well after a few minutes once the knot was brushed out she did seem to be in a better mood and the rest of the hair cut went fine. When I was checking out I was charged for a normal haircut, which I expected, the conditioning treatment, also expected, and then the receptionist tells me they are going to charge me extra because I have long hair and that I should have mentioned this on the phone so they could have booked extra time for me. At that time I honestly didn't say anything I paid my charges then went on my way. But I do wish I did say something. it is not the client's responsibility to mention they have long hair and they will be needing extra time, it is the receptionists job to mention while making the appointment that they will do an upcharge if more time is required. I have been there multiple times and my hair has been long on all occasions and I have never heard of a upcharge before.
But i was still willing to come back to this salon
I made an apt for last week I even made it with Ivy just because she does do a good job each time, but that week ivy was not available, and I made it with a differently stylist Morgan.
Now I live about 25-30 mins away, and I have two small kids
So its not easy for me to get out to get an hair cut, I don't have family near by where I can leave them nor do I have a regular baby sitter who I can call whenever. And my husband works odd hours. So I had to plan for this hair cut, I had finally found a baby sitter on a Saturday to come watch the babies so I could get a haircut done. I drive all the way to the salon the second I parked my car I get a phone call, it's the salon. Informing me that Morgan my stylist for day has called out sick, she was sick the day before and called out and they were "hoping she would have come in today, but she just called out"
I was quite upset at this point
The receptionist did nothing to help me out did not offer me to see another stylist just said all the stylist are booked and it would be inconvenient for the other clients, all she offered me was a 20% off voucher for my troubles and to pay for my gas, neither one I took. I informed her 20 % is not going to pay for my in convince or time and that 20% was nothing she then said "well 20% is a lot off" and honestly if she offered me a free cut I would have not taken it. She really had no sympathy for me and all I got was basically oh well nothing we can do we didn't know she would not come in. I just don't understand how you could not give your clients a heads up the night before if you knew your stylist was sick and had a chance of not coming in.
This salon does not care about its clients, and I just don't understand how they are in business. I've made it my business now to tell anyone who asks not to go here. I have sister in laws and friends I've referred here, and they will no longer be coming here.
Save your money and time and go somewhere else. New jersey has so many better options then this place. read more
