Don't be misled by all the 5 star reviews. The lower starred ones do matter and you should probably pay even more attention to those because those are real customers. I think it's unfortunate that the person in question thinks it's okay to be unprofessional, rude, and bullying to customers leaving honest reviews instead of trying to learn from their experiences and feedback to make his business better and improve as a hairstylist. My experience was quite uncomfortable and bad for many reasons: He was busy cutting someone else's hair, told me to sit down, and after verifying that I made an appointment, told me to wait. It wasn't the greatest customer service because of his annoyed tone and dismissive body language, but I let it go because I thought, well maybe he's just that busy and isn't having a good day. Then a different hairstylist told me to follow him and I went to get my hair washed. Hair washing was fine, no issue with service, but the steps you have to climb up to get to the hair washing chair aren't secured and may come up when you step on them so if you decide to go, please be careful not to fall. Afterwards, the different hairstylist had me sit in his chair and asked how I wanted my hair to be cut. I was surprised that the hairstylist I specifically made an appointment with (I mean really, look at the title of this Yelp page) was not going to cut my hair. KC didn't even bat an eye to explain. He continued doing the other customer's hair like he couldn't be bothered. Interestingly, her hair cut wasn't more complex than mine. The hairstylist I had did the best he could with my basic cut with layers and side-swept bangs and I could tell the "vibe" of the place is that they're all scared of KC and work for him. The atmosphere was awkward. No talking, just low volume pop music with barely any interaction between hairstylists and customers. My hairstylist tried to make small talk with me and it was very sweet and I appreciated the attempts for good customer service so I tipped him very well even though my hair cut wasn't as great as what I used to get from the mall for like $35. I had to pay almost $80 for a lower quality hair cut here which is...unbelievable. As I was getting my hair cut, the other hairstylists finished and went on break and KC was talking on the phone to a potential customer that wanted color and highlights. I feel bad for the person on the other end because they could not see his irritated and frustrated body language but they must've heard his annoyed tone. He was trying to explain balayage and his choice of words and tone made it seem like he was assuming that they were stupid which isn't right. Also, the reviewer that mentioned that no heat protectant was used, I can attest to because I did not have heat protectant put on my hair either and my hair is quite fine and thin. So in sum, if you're looking for a new hairstylist, this one is one to skip because you may not even be getting your hair cut from them, they may not even tell you that you're not getting your hair cut from them, and you may just end up getting a subpar hair cut with no heat protectant during blow drying and pay almost $80 for when you had a much higher quality hair cut from the mall with wash, heat protectant, and blow dry for $35. read more

I was very optimistic for my color/haircut appointment because of the great reviews, but unfortunately, my haircut with Kyle was the worst of my life. I showed Kyle MULTIPLE pictures of the shape/style I wanted and specifically said I did not want my hair to have a choppy, V-shape. This is EXACTLY what I got. Immediately after leaving, I went to another hair stylist in an attempt to correct be disaster. Kyle thinned my hair so badly that the other stylist was shocked. While my hair was being colored, I was very uncomfortable because the two stylists were speaking about me in their native tongue. Even the color, which I was initially happy with, came out uneven in the back. Kyle seemed like a nice guy, but in retrospect, I should have refused to pay the $180 for this horrendous experience. I will never come back. Aside from being completely the opposite of what I asked for (and exactly what I said I did NOT want), the hair is overall choppy and uneven. My coworkers pointed out that I still had a ton of grey hairs toward the back of my head. Didn't even want to ask them to correct it because I don't want anyone here touching my hair ever again. I've never been so disappointed with a haircut. The biggest problem was the lack of communication from Kyle and how he made me feel when I tried to communicate my preferences. When I arrived at the salon, I asked for a haircut with lots of layers and I even pointed to the approximate length I wanted. However, Kyle immediately dismissed my request by saying, "You can't do lots of layers with that length." I insisted that I did want lots of layers and also wanted my hair to be thinned out significantly. In the past, I've requested this kind of haircut without any issues, and other stylists understood exactly what I wanted. But Kyle simply repeated, "You can't do lots of layers," and implied that I only wanted my hair thinned. He didn't bother explaining what length would be needed to achieve layers, leaving me confused and frustrated. Despite my reservations, I trusted Kyle's confidence and allowed him to continue cutting my hair. However, as he was cutting, I tried to communicate my concerns about not cutting too much because of my hair's slight wave. I wanted to maintain the integrity of a layered style, but Kyle just moved my head back into position and replied with a dismissive "mm." I felt ignored and almost guilty for interrupting him, even though I was just expressing my preferences as a paying customer. To make matters worse, even when I specifically asked him to thin my hair a lot, he didn't do it properly. My hair thickness is almost the same as before the haircut, which I had yesterday, and the style doesn't match what I requested at all. I also have past photos of my hair at similar length with the layers I want. My haircut is extremely different as it almost looks like a long bob of some sort instead of many layers. All of the emphasis is at the top and middle of my head with little thinning done. Got a cut and keratin treatment to smooth out my hair for the summer. My hair is a little bit wavy but ALWAYS frizzy when it's humid, so I wanted to straighten out my hair again because I had an old Japanese straightening perm from last year. He recommended doing keratin for the frizz and so the final texture wouldn't be so pin straight. I love how it looks, and my hair is cut exactly how I wanted it! Long and not too layered, and he was really thorough throughout the 3 hours it took for my appointment. I've been in limbo stylist-wise for 6 years since my previous go-to in Manhattan moved away. Kyle is super knowledgeable and recommends the best treatment for your hair. I initially booked a haircut with him with the goal of removing the weight of my hair which is naturally thick, curly, and frizzy, but upon sitting in his chair, he knew a haircut wouldn't achieve what I wanted since I normally wear my hair straight and instead suggested a relaxer/re-bonding treatment. I'm glad I went with his suggestion because for the first time in my life, I finally don't have to worry about my hair frizzing in the rain or "poofing" up in the humidity. The interior of the salon, looks nothing like the exterior. The decor is very sheek and modern. The shop is also well ventilated and very clean. I worked in a nail salon for a year, so I know how smelly a shop can get from all the fumes, which is why I really appreciate the ventilation in this shop. I came a half hour earlier than my appointment, which was very easy to set up. I was expecting to wait because I was early, but he was able to take me right away. I got my hair cut and balayaged. I appreciate the fact that he thinned out my hair and gave it some texture, now it feels light as a feather! My balayage didn't come out looking the pictures I showed him, but it's still nice. I was going for a more ash brown, but in some lighting my hair color looks a bit golden. He did say the color will fade a bit and get lighter as I wash, so we'll see how it looks after a few washes. Even though my hair didn't turn out like the pictures, it's 1000x better than what my hair was like before, so I'm a happy camper. I also love that my hair doesn't smell like ammonia, like those stupid box dyes, when I'm all done. Kyle knows what he's doing. His technique is flawless. I'm not very knowledgeable on color, and after the initial consultation with Kyle I really appreciated his suggestions and explanation regarding what to expect and the process needed to reach certain colors on Asian hair. I had some family matters that came up that day and realized I wasn't able to stay for the full balayage process (I'm also coming from out of state visiting family so my time was even more limited; I couldn't simply just come back). So w the time constraint we were able to discuss an alternative that still achieved a color I wanted. I was also very appreciative for his willingness to change course from the initial balayage request. I received a layered cut as well and in the end I was very happy w the overall color and look. He's very attentive to detail, which I also liked. I also really liked that he suggested some products to use at home to maintain the color. What did sour the whole experience, however, were some remarks I overheard him speaking in a different language to another coworker, after the initial consultation, about how the change in color request shortened the time he would spend with me even though he had cleared the rest of the day for it. It's unfortunate that I was able to understand, because I felt uncomfortable the rest of my time there knowing that's how he felt. I would've given 5 stars no hesitation if this hadn't occurred. With that being said, I do plan on coming back sometime because I do think Kyle is really great with color (especially on Asian hair) and I do still one day would like to get that balayage I initially wanted. They had zero volumizing products. My hair fell flat within hours of leaving the salon. I don't think this salon is equipped to handle hair that's not East Asian. I have a hard time letting people touch my hair with sharp objects. On the flip side, I never really know what to do with my hair either so I've been the subject of some very bad haircuts. Salon appointments are very hard to come by but Kyle Chang was able to make it happen for me within 2 days. My stylist, TJ, is excellent. He looked at the layers in my hair, listened to what I wanted, and gave me a great cut. We took off a modest 2-3 inches, kept the layers I already had, and changed the sharp "V" shape to more of a "U". He didn't go scissor crazy and chop it to high heaven, nor did he break out the razor clips to hide any mistakes. He did a fantastic job framing my face and used his superior technique to achieve a result I actually like.
