A plus that you can walk around and sample some korean food and pick up some groceries. First time visiting. Came in 10 minutes before the appointment time, and I got started right away without delays. Process: I was given a small locker to put away my jacket = PLUS! Started off with a wash by the older gentleman (owner's husband, I presume), then sat down for the cut by the older lady (the owner herself). I was given a large arm cushion (never seen that given to male customers before! PLUS!) After asking what kind of haircut I wanted, she started working on my hair immediately. EXPERIENCE: It was a pleasant experience overall -- NO LOUD MUSIC, just the droney background music from the H-mart outside. Only one chatty customer in the other chair, with the younger female employee working there. The shop is BRIGHTLY LIT, clean, and it's not filled with odors like some other places sometimes are. I almost fell asleep from the snip-snip sounds of the cut. Having the arm cushion to rest my arms made it even more comfortable. The owner did a great job with my hair which hadn't been cut in half a year. She switched back and forth between clippers and scissors. She used a brush and then blower to get all the hair off, then styled it with a gel the way I wanted. Even trimmed my eyebrows a little. CONCLUSION: All for a good price of $30. I tipped $5 per person. The owner is experienced (10 years at that location, and before that 10 years in Metuchen, the next town over). I feel like I found a good, reliable shop who knows who to cut Asian men's hair. Getting my hair washed first was a bit unconventional, but I'm fine with the result. Speaking Korean will help. **WARNING-- DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!**My brother went here for a men's perm and here are the results before and after. His hair looks EXACTLY the same after the appointment and the older woman who did his hair, Julia, said that it is normal for your hair to look exactly the same after a perm and that it would take several more appointments to see any results. Note, this service cost $100 and she was asking us to pay another $100 for the next appointment with no guarantee of results. Despite the lack of any change in his hair, Julia argued with us and refused to issue a refund or fix the results, insisting that we should come back the next month and pay another $100, again with no guarantee of results. Thankfully the other man was working in the salon that day and accommodated our refund. Not only is this salon trying to steal your money, but they are not willing to compromise with the customer if the results are not as promised. What a nightmare! Separately, as a woman, I have gone to this salon one time for a trim where they charged me $50 (never again!). Awful...My daughter went there today and came out with color that was too dark...lady told her it will fade with washing (permanent color)...orange patch as well near the hairline....$180 and she is on her way to a different salon to get it fixed. If it's possible, I would give ZERO stars. Went in with my hair at an even length and touching my shoulders and asked for a TRIM. I understand cutting 1-2" but I left with a shaped and layered bob haircut just below my ears. WTF?! I went here based on the other reviewers who said they were good with asian hair, maybe if every asian that walks in wants to leave with a bob haircut. That's completely not what I asked for. I was having thinning hair and she still was able to cut my hair that came out really nice. I had recently brought my daughter there for a hair cut. A young lady cut her hair. Just a simple trim. I am new in the area and was looking for a simple, low maintenance haircut. Just wanted the same cut, but have my points cut off as they were split and dry. I have very thin, light and blond hair. So i do think it was a risky bet to try an Asian hair dresser - who is not that fluent in english. But Julia, the owner, took her time to cut my hair and did a great job. My hair is very nicely cut and I only had to pay 35 dollar for shampoo, cut and drying. The drying could be more thorough... As my hair is so thun, i really need a good amount of styling foam for the shape to hold... So although they put it in a very nice and trendy shape while blowdrying, it soon went back to the normal flat shape. Also, i called at 5pm, went there straight and was back at the car before 6pm. Salon is very relaxing: nobody else there, no loud music, no chatting (except when you speak Korean I guess). Overall great experience and i will definitely be back!
