I can admire plump, round, and juicy shapes without wanting to squeeze them with my hands. I like to imagine the earthy, feral flavors of wild things without bending down deeply to smell them. I like to imagine the juices dripping off my lips and the stickiness on my fingers. I like to watch and admire from afar. Even if I never intend to pay for the pleasure of eating. That's how I feel about farmers' market food porn here at Ukiah's visually stunning Saturday Farmers' Market. It opens at 9am and goes until around noon, with a nice local park nearby for resting in the shade and abundant amounts of free street parking all over. Of course, you can fill up on food for the coming week here, but what if you don't have the means to carry a lot with you? When visiting a local farmers' market as an out-of-town curiosity seeker, looking without leaping is sometimes pleasure enough. Buying means making a commitment to cook, and if I am just passing through town and have prior reservations to dine, what would be the point? All of this deliciousness would just sit in the back of my car all dressed up but no where to go. What's awesome about a quality farmers' market in summer especially is how great all the produce looks, even if you aren't ready or able to buy that day. Admission here is free and no questions asked. Look, admire, and buy if you can but don't pass this up if you are only passing through. Fruit, veg, and products this delicious deserve all the attention they can get! You can always slake your thirst after at Ukiah Brewing Company's bar when you are through loving the veg with your eyes, or grab a cold brew on nitro at Black Oak Coffee Roasters. But the market itself is a highly recommended stop if you have time to kill on a sunny Saturday afternoon and want to see what's happening in this part of Northern California's ever evolving food scene.

It's on the smaller side, but has a nice variety -- fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, craft jewelry, food vendors, and even live music to set the vibe. Most of the vendors were friendly and welcoming, which added to the experience. It feels like a true neighborhood market -- relaxed, low-key, and easy to browse. A pleasant stop if you're in the area..

With suggestions and attentiveness and really vibing with our needs. The restaurant was out of stock of my favorite dish (seared white albacore), but I was so happy our alternatives worked out to perfection. We were blessed with the first of their new beef dish they haven't launched on their menu quite yet and it was perfection. The beef melted and was savory and absolutely delicious. Give Jazmine a raise! Oh and our greeter, who I assume was the owner couldn't have been more gracious or kinder. I will definitely be back!

Twas a solo, business trip on a Friday night, so I was able to experience this place on full, local display. Sat at the sushi bar and I was able to watch the chef make my Oco personally. The only reason I left a star out is because as I sat at one of those bar spots, I was exposed to the back side of the deep fryer so not only was it warm but it was a touch scummy. It needed to be cleaned thoroughly. (To me that something you expect in Japanese culture is the expected cleanliness.) The service was not bad, perhaps not top notch, maybe due to the fact it was a full house with tables turning over. Overall well done and I will return.
