Bought a screen door from Menards in Plainfield. Asked for someone to install. Was given the name of Jason Pedrick. Jason installed the door but took off the sidelite covers and has not replaced them back. He added new wood on the side of the door which the sidelite covers need to attached to. Jason failed to add a whole for them to attach. I have called and texted repeatedly. Jason was paid IN FULL at time of the installation. No return calls or texts. DO NOT USE JASON PEDRICK for any door work from Menards in Plainfield. Too bad I believed in him too. (I did not notice this until I tried to install after I had painted the sidelites) Jason graciously suggested leaving them off until after I had painted the sidelites. Now I know why!!!!!!!!! I went to Menards this morning to get caulk. There was a large display on an aisle end cap advertised for $1.77 (see picture). I get to the checkout and she wants to charge me $2.91. I told her about the display. She calls the paint department who says there is no display of caulk on an aisle end. I said do I need to go over and take a picture. She said its $2.91. So I go all the way back to the paint department and take the picture and bring it back to the register. She said she will give me the price. No apology. They insist its the wrong item. I had a very bad experience just at this particular Menards because of just one particular assistant manager. Perhaps she was in charge late Friday due the Peter Principal. Clarisse is a sturdy woman, a strong back is a terrible thing to waste. A few days ago I bought and assembled an electric fireplace/TV stand as a house warming gift for wife of 40 years. She loves it. Today I brought in the sale paper to get an instore credit for difference in price. Regardless of the fact that the Customer Service person was already preparing the correct paperwork, the store computer ok'd the adjustment, but Clarisse insisted I bring back the unit I assembled for a refund and if more unassembled units were in stock, I could then start over and buy at the lower sale price. This Menards has fantastic and extremely helpful employees. I have found customer service to be extremely lacking at a lot of retail stores since the beginning of covid. I just like to be handed my receipt with a "thank you for shopping with us" or even just a "thank you". So many places will just hand you the receipt and say "here you go". So, my expectations for customer service have been fairly low in the past year. Imagine my surprise when I met Colton. Not only did Colton approach me in the furniture section and ask if I needed any assistance, he delivered it tenfold. I had my eye on a couch that was on a platform above the rest of the furniture. He called a couple other employees over to assist in putting the couch on the floor, so that I could sit on it. He also spent quite a bit of time searching the inventory in other stores so that I could get a matching recliner. He went above and beyond and Menards is lucky to have such a great Store Manager working for them. I was looking for a rug for the floor as well. A couple employees were nice enough to take several rugs over to the furniture section and roll them out in front of the couch for me also. Just a fantastic experience with this Menards and I was very impressed with Colton and his team. read more

I enjoy coming to menards. I came to this one because the one by my house did not have enough of the product I needed. This location is much bigger than my local menards. I came here and had no issue finding the product. However, when I asked a sales associate to see if they have more of it on a pallet, he couldn't find service on his device. What's the point of having them if they don't have service? It took him 10 minutes walking around waving it and still couldn't find service. So he finally had to go to the computer and found the pallet that way. read more

Once again I find myself needing to give this Menards a five star rating. In addition to my previous rating of five stars overall for this store I must mention a particular employee "Mitch" who on two different occasions in the span of one week went out of his way to assist me. I did not seek him out rather he was passing by while I was in the lumber section and stopped to assist with the loading of the boards on a service trolley. I had 20 boards. Then Later in the week he again assisted me without any inquiries on my part. I've been a Menards Plainfield for over 3 years. Yesterday was the first time I had experience with the Customer Center for a high value product. It was by far the worse experience I have ever had with a department store. The front desk helper gave wrong answer, and I asked to talk with the manager, she came few minutes later and was rude, and was not interested to listen me. After I ask to talk with store manager or Menards 0800 number, I decided to say would open a credit card dispute. She finally listen me and shows no intension to help me asking to looking for help outside of store before I return the item. Long short, I have to drive 10Mi round trip and paid $10 for a specialist survey document, to prove a brand new item never used was broken. When I return she was reluctant to accept the document from a repair shop they sent me. If you are looking for a light bulb, go forward, but never ever look for high value item in this store. The Customer Service is horrible! read more

Placed an order online for three pieces of moulding. One of the items was incorrect, which means whoever pulled it didn't bother to make sure all three items matched, which is just simply lazy. Customer service was rude and short, and ultimately not helpful. I will never shop at another Menards again. read more

I'm done with this chain. I can no longer subsidize the greed of John Menard. This guy is worth over 8 BIllion dollars and has clearly gotten there by underpaying and mistreating his employees, ignoring environmental and labor laws, and then gouging customers with rebate forms he knows most won't mail in. Enough. The final straw came today when renting a truck to carry some plywood. Notwithstanding the $18.95 price written on their trucks, Menards now charges a mandatory, non-refundable $4.75 fuel surcharge and a refundable $50 deposit on top of the $18.95. $18.95 + $4.75 + tax on both the fuel and rental brings the actual price to $25.20. Other are at $20 with tax. You have my CC, so why the deposit? That's just nonsense. Worse, they illegally charge tax on it. Yes you get it back with the tax, but why bother at all when renting a dirty beat up pickup with 50k miles on it and requiring my insurance card? The fuel surcharge is pure greed. You are only allowed the truck for 75 minutes so using up $4.75 in gas in that time is a real challenge given how local the truck use is likely to be. Since the employees check in/out the truck anyway, how hard is it to monitor fuel? This time the employee walked my around the truck pointing out the countless dings, scratches and cracks that Menards certainly got insurance settlements for, but never fixed. The manager told me this charge started in Dec 2016 after "issues" occurred at other stores. Sure... I will now move all my business to the other 2 big box stores that are literally down the street from Menards. Life's too short to support nonsense and greed. read more

It's clean and well organized/stocked minus being out of snow blowers on 12/12/16. The cashier was friendly and a lady at the customer service desk thanked us for coming in- what a sweet gesture! This is the first Menards I've been in and will most likely return as we just bought a house in that neck of the woods. My husband and I stopped into this location on our way home from a lovely little lunch in downtown Plainfield. We intended to pop into the Menards closers to our house in Aurora, but this was on the way home so we said eh, why not. The reason for our trip was to pick up some chicken wire. We needed it to fill in a gap in the corner our patio fence so our dog can enjoy the outside without me constantly keeping an eye on her (or her taking off down the block when she sees a fellow dog). It wasn't too busy in the store that day. I actually found it to be unusually quiet for a Saturday afternoon. We headed over towards the outdoor area to find what we needed. They had a handful of different options that were similar to chicken wire. Some were more of a plastic material, some wire, some black, and some green. I originally just planned on your typical chicken wire because I didn't realize these other options existed, but then I found a black heavy duty plastic option which I thought would look much nicer considering our fence is black. I really wanted a second opinion and to ask someone what the main differences between each of the materials were, but there was not an employee in sight. Kind of one of my pet peeve's in a store like Menards considering I typically don't know a whole lot about whatever project I'm attempting to take on. Decided to just go with the black plastic fencing material and I want to say it was about $15 for a rather large roll of it. We really only needed about a foot of it, but that's the only amount it was sold in. The material was super easy to cut and it ended up working out just perfect for what we needed it for. Side note: Our cashier was super slow at checkout. All we had was the fence material and a few other household items and it took quite a while to complete this transaction. read more

Besides my new fetish for power tools, I find myself stopping by here every once and again during my lunch break or whenever I'm bored to stay on the cutting edge of home improvement items such as 16-penny nails and hardwood flooring. Also, for some reason I'm fairly certain this particular Menards has the largest variety of beef jerky products I've seen in the greater Plainfield/Romeoville/Naperville area. The absolute worst service I've ever had in my life. I'm having my bathroom redone and my contractor told me to go and get this item. First of all it took me 20 minutes to find somebody to help me and that was only after I called the main number and complained. This location is across the street from my house, so it has come in handy for my numerous DIY and emergency projects. My most recent project involved glass shelving. But they do not cut glass here. You're limited to pre-made shelving, and the even the selection of that is very limited. I've often had to seek out employees to get help, and they are few and far between. When I do track them down, they guide me in the right direction. The size of the store can be overwhelming, so be ready to spend 5 minutes looking for somebody to assist you. What's with the aisles of groceries? I understand the quick chips and candy at the register, if you're famished during a project this is a quick moneymaker for Menards. But they sell crap like cake mix and canned vegetables. Someone tell me, if you're installing a tile floor, do you really want to bake a cake when you're done? read more

Menards dropped the ball today. I shop here all the time. Today I grabbed some shelf brackets out of a full box with a 1.99 price tag. Full box of the same product, not reshop or a customer putting them in the wrong place. They weren't exactly what I wanted but for 1.99 I would make them work. When I checked out they rang up 5.89. I asked the cashier to take them off without any fuss. She said we can do a price check quick so I said ok. The guy came back and said they were mismarked and brought the sticker. The manager told me the sku didn't match (didn't know I was responsible for matching sku's) and anyone could have moved the box. I'm a store manager at a retail facility and if we mess up, we honor the price. This whole process took an extra 10 minutes with everyone in line staring at me. Now I'm pissed I was accused of switching boxes of product when I didn't complain about the price in the first place. read more

I have been what I think of as a very good customer of Menard's and probably will continue to be but not because of the management. Jim H. is VERY RUDE. A few weeks ago, I purchased approximately 90 Autumn Blend Flagstone Pavers and installed them. I purchased this amount as we wanted to see if we would like them. We determined we did I went a back to purchase another 250. The desk said they had 494 in stock. I went to the yard later to pick them up, and they had had NONE. The yard employee was extremely helpful and we looked for almost 1 1/2 hours. Went to the Materials Desk and talked to Tom S the department manager. Tom was very helpful, checked on the computer and said inventory showed 494 in stock. We went out to the yard and looked again. Tom apologized that the inventory was off and informed me that Baxter and Hudson, WI had more than what I needed. I went to the front desk and asked for the GM. His name was Tom H. I explained to him the situation and asked him to transfer the blocks to Duluth. He told me he could not that they don't do inter store transfers. I asked him to have the private delivery service deliver them. He told me it would cost me $280. I told him I had ordered and paid for 250 stones two days ago and the problem was their inventory was off. I informed him he did not know how much I spent with Menards which is a lot, but he was telling me my business was not work $280 to Menard's. I offered to split the cost with him and he said no again. I then said "now my business is not worth $180 to him. He stated "don't put words in my mouth". I said I am not, it is exactly what you are saying. He stated the product is seasonal and that I could purchase them next spring. I informed him I wanted to finish the project this fall, NOT next year. I also explained that I had previous experience on the blocks purchased at a later date being a little smaller. He told me he could not to do anything. I told him "there is a difference between couldn't and wouldn't. He was extremely rude and disrespectful to a very loyal and good customer. We ended up driving to Hudson, WI and purchased 350 blocks and transporting 6,600# of blocks to Duluth. read more

I usually love this Menards but lately the service has gone down hill. I think some of the staff should be trained on their customer service skills. As I was leaving the store I noticed a young man pulling the carts into the store so I waited along with another customer to give him our carts. He took the gentleman's cart but told me that he couldn't take mine. I asked him you can't or you won't? He just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders and proceeded to go into the store. No big deal, I just thought that he was very rude. I feel as if you ask a question to any of the staff at this location you are somewhat bothering them. They seem less interested in helping. No matter what position you are hired for at a store like this you do know that you will have to deal with all types of people. If you don't want to help everyone then don't get a job in customer service. read more

I am writing this review after my last visit to Menards last weekend. They were not letting customers into the store without a mask (they had masks available for those who did not come with one). Thank you Menards for using science and common sense in order to protect both your employees and customers! Pretty poor customer service from the jump. Every corner I turned felt the employees were turning another to avoid having to actually help customers. They're all mostly lethargic and uninformed teenagers that don't give a shit. I asked TWO separate people where I could find sand for a children's sandbox. Asked because I was in a hurry and couldn't seem to find it where it would be most obvious to look. Girl at front said "idk, check cements or insulation, I'm front so I don't really know that part of the store so ask someone back there." Okay? Walk me to it. What more do you have to do with your day beside help the customer? That is your number one priority. Went by myself back to another department I already looked in. Found a kid working there aimlessly walking. Looked like he didn't understand a word I was speaking to him. Said check outside. At this point I was livid. I shouldn't have to seek THIS much help for such a simple thing and really have gotten no help at all. Ended up leaving without what I went in for. Should also add I found it pretty unsafe they had a forklift just sitting in the middle of the outside yard where customers walk through. Tf? Why is there a giant piece of dangerous machinery in the open and unattended like that? I could have gotten on it and driven it. read more

I rented a rug doctor from this location. The machine was not very clean when I got it and when I went to rinse the dirty container, there were A ton of a red clumps that came out... Nothing that I had cleaned was red at all... Only used it on two rooms with tan carpeting. I made sure to rinse this thoroughly before I returned it even though it was not clean when I received it for rental. I also cleaned out the bottom of the machine yet the very unkind Carlos who was working the desk insisted that he had to charge me $20 additional cost because it was not clean. I did clean this and I did quite a thorough job. It was in better condition when I returned it then when I received it. Charging $20 is absolutely ridiculous on top of the price that you already had to pay for the rental. I will never give this location my business again which is unfortunate because it is so close to my home but I am willing to drive to Lowe's or Home Depot in the future. read more

General manager here does not understand that if you issue receipts with outdated policies you must honor them or replace with current policy receipts. Store issues receipts with policies on them that were changed some time ago and he refuses to honor them as he uses up his old stock with the outdated policies and feels that it is acceptable. Avoid this hot mess at all costs. Drive 10 minutes to the North Aurora ave. store where people understand service and have integrity. Why: I spent several thousand dollars on special order carpet. I was informed that it would take three days to get it from Plano. When it arrived the color was not what I ordered and so the process began again. I waited three more days and was forced to physically go to the store to ensure that it was the carpet and color I ordered. Because of the delay my installers had to be rescheduled - costing me time and money. Wait it gets better - when my installers arrived to pick up the carpet Plainfield Menard's shipping department gave them someone else's order. After installing two rooms Menards called and asked them to return it. Now I am paying for the installers to put in the wrong carpet and for them to take it out. It has been 10 days since they processed payment for the carpet, which now sits in my home waiting for a break in the installers schedule. Oh yes - I called and explained the financial costs I've absorbed due to the store's error and Chris the general manager told me he was sorry, but that it was my carpet now. The last straw was when he tried to imply it was the installer's error! PS - they are the installers Menards promotes. Thousands spent - hundreds more absorbed due to their incompetency and they are sorry. No integrity or accountability for their actions and a totally unprofessional experience. Do yourself a favor and find another option. Buyer beware...GM Chris is a huge corporate disappointment. read more

I HAVE to tell you about THE most helpful, patient worker there EVER. Her name is Lianna, and I walked in with some paint color schemes on my phone that I found online. I wanted her to help me match them to get paints like what I had in my pics. THIS GIRL, should have told me to go get stuffed and make up my mind already!! I took FOREVER, I couldn't decide for at least a good hour. She went through countless samples, trying to match them. NEVER even sighed when I would be almost close to deciding then suddenly change my mind completely and start back all over again. She was so polite and helpful, all with a smile, I honestly don't know how she did it. lol. I wrote her a good in-store review too, but just had to say on here as well. SHE made me want to be a returning customer for sure. read more

We always have a great experience at this Menards! Another example of that is the customer service we received while pricing out quotes for an exterior front door. Reluctantly we had gone to the Home Depot in Shorewood because we know that they are staffed to do installations. Typically, they were of no help at all--an associate there told us he would be right with us and proceeded to ghost us while we waited a full 15 minutes for him to come back and assist us with a quote and then never showed. Even though we knew Menards doesn't have installation in-house, we decided to take a chance and get a quote in hopes of being connected with someone who could help us with the installation. John and Deb in the door department were so pleasant and amazingly helpful and John hooked us up with a guy who not only has stellar reviews, but called us back within 5 minutes of us leaving a voicemail on a Saturday, and we got an appointment for a measurement/assessment in a matter of 2 days!! That's why Menards in Plainfield ROCKS! Effective and efficient is how they roll. Can't wait to get our new front door! I'll have to update about that experience later...stay tuned. :) read more
