Based on today's visit the customer see ice is very unwelcoming and Sherri in checkout lane 8 is rude and has zero people skills. When someone says hi how are you doing or how's your day, a nice response would be nice such as I'm good thank you how about you? No. Sherri ignored me. I asked again. She said ok. Then I said "great we are doing good" since she didn't say anything. I'm sorry but it's not difficult to respond to patrons. If it is then maybe you should not be in the front area checking people out at the register. It's sad to see how good customer service has declined in most stores. The selection of items is decent but I'll go to a different location next time where the staff is much friendlier and more welcoming. read more

Tons of selections. I much prefer this to other big box stores of this nature. They have everything from lighting to plumbing to construction materials to tools. Everything for the house. We stopped today to pick up some mums and we got a couple really nice ones. That'll look great in the backyard. The prices are pretty reasonable and their staff is very knowledgeable and can help you find something you're looking for which is hard in a large store like this. This store opens at 6:00. Staff was on hand to show me where to find what I need and even coach me on what product would work best for my need. I was out of there in 15 minutes with everything. Bought a vanity off their website. It was delivered to the house by Roadrunner Transportation and placed into the garage. When I got home from work, I noticed the box looked like it had been previously opened, so I opened it up just to make sure everything was okay. The box had been opened, and water was all over the the wooden part of the vanity - it was delivered in two boxes so the top of the vanity was still fine. We call Menards and they say we can bring it up to the store to get it replaced, or we would have to email customer service to see what they could do. Since it was delivered on a pallet, we didn't have an option to take it up to the store on our own.  We emailed customer service and had to send in photos only to be told that it didn't look like that much damage to them.  I was shocked that you can order a $1700 item and if "not enough damage" was done it was too bad.  I will never order anything from Menards again if it needs to be shipped because they don't care what happens after they run your credit card. read more

This store has a very random collection of items. It's primarily a home improvement store but they have a large selection of grocery items, cleaning supplies, kids toys, and furniture. Plus a Christmas tree forest during the holidays. By February, that space was turned into a patio furniture display. I stopped in for shelf support pins to fix a broken bookcase shelf and was convinced I'd never find them in that giant store. I eventually found them but by then I had a full cart of stuff. I love browsing the bathroom and kitchen displays, even though I am a renter and have no use for them. A girl can dream. Two of the staff were really friendly and asked if I needed help finding anything, both women, but overall nobody else really acknowledged me. I was just at your store at South Emerson Avenue and Southport Rd in Indianapolis. I found the items I wanted and was checking out when the computer crashed after I ran my card. We waited while they went through the computer trying to figure out what had happened. I believe I was being very patient as there were 3 employees and none of them seemed to know what was going on. I checked my online banking and my account showed that the purchase was run in my account. I asked the woman if I needed to stay since it registered already. She told me that it had gone through but I may need to run my card again since their machine locked up. I told her I wasn't running my card again because it showed paid already. She told me I would have to, I told her that I would like a receipt saying that i already paid and that they could keep the merchandise but if my card was run, i wanted to get my money back. She got an attitude and started trying to explain it again. I told her that I wanted to leave and that if my card was run I would need to be reimbursed. She was being rude, so I went to the service desk where she followed me and loudly in front of a group of employees and customers cut me off as I was talking and said she was the manager and she was the one I needed to deal with. We went to the receipt machine and ran my card and it didn't show the purchase but it did in my bank account. I believe it may have not gone through their system due to whatever issue they had in the store and still may pop up when they get that computer is back up. I again told her I don't want the merchandise I was planning on purchasing, and i wil not be returning to that store, I was just going to leave. As I was walking away, she was yelling on her headset for someone. Not an issue because I left. As someone who deals with the public, and the public trust on a daily basis, I can think of dozens of ways she could have handled this better. To knowingly put someone of her caliber and temperament in charge of a store baffles me and makes me question the values and mission of your store. Her name was Kathyrn. If that sale did in fact proceed through my bank, I intend to issue a fraud alert. It will also be a cold day in Hell before I, or any one in my family, goes to that store. I will also make it known with all my family and friends that this Menards is a Toxic store and that they should avoid it at all cost. read more

The young man at the resister was bothered when I asked if someone could go back and grab a bag of dirt for me since a large while was in my top soil bag. He said begrudgingly that he would "try." Then I asked due to his poor attitude if he had a piece of tape. He acted bothered again. So I asked another worker whom I found out later was manager on duty. She was spresking to a man who appeared to be a friend who had to tell her that she was needed. It was definitely was a personal conversation. She finally gave me a piece of tape with no apology for inconvenience. I felt like a complete inconvenience. I understand the young man's attitude as he was young and likely a first job. The "manager" would have spent her time better trading and coaching the young man on basic customer service. This would benefit the young man and make better use of company time. It's unfortunate that the customer is the ultimate sacrifice. I see now why the reviews are so low. The date and time for this was 04/08/2025 at about 5:30 pm was at Menards on Emerson Avenue. I doubt she was the GM as she truly was just kinda hanging out. Just a note. It was not busy at this time. read more

Love menards prices as compared to Home Depot and Lowes. Also love that they often have their 11% rebate. I cannot believe I didn't initially take advantage of that until recently. I am all for hiring people to have staff on deck, but if you do they need to be placed appropriately. I often have questions, so I expect a worker to be able to answer those questions. On this visit I had specific questions about flush lighting, which neither of the two women knew what I was talking about. It took several trips down several aisles to finally find what I needed. On the other hand, I went to the paint department, and the gentlemen back there knew exactly what I needed and were very knowledgeable about different paints and primers and such. I spent more time than I would have liked to have dealing with the light situation. one last thing, they carry all kinds of things besides just hardware, such as detergents, but they don't carry Persil . wahhh :( read more

Don't buy anything seasonal here. I bought a snow blower that had a defective tire whenI opened the box. When I returned it I asked to just exchange the tire. The dept manager said no and that the item couldn't be returned because it was seasonal. That taught me a lesson to go to Lowe's or Home Depot. They are better quality stores who stand behind their products. I can spend the 600.00 plus elsewhere. I will only shop Menards when buying small non-mechanical items only if it is convenient for me. I was certainly an inconvenience- removed and threw the retaining straps on the floor, along with the carpet identification. Zero conversation . I am saddened that this Menards isn't as high quality as it used to be. I'm frustrated that the lady in the paint department is grumpy and couldn't match the paint we needed at all. Every time we interact with her she seems irritated. Additionally, the young girl who checked me out of the store was not super conversational or kind. When I told her "thank you" for ringing me up, she said "yup" and walked away. Also, there was a group of 3 employees chatting it up in the flooring department, barely acknowledging that I was there. This place never seems to disappoint. Whenever we are trying to locate something hard to find we can get it at Menards 9 times out of ten we can find it here. Many times it is also on sale. Everyone here is so helpful and friendly and it seems that they are especially skilled in the department they work in. If you need something in another department they will direct you to a person in that department. I am not sure if this is true at all Menards stores but it certainly is at the south Emerson store. Bring the exact SKU with you to the lumber counter because chances are they won't know how to find the building material you need or it will be wrong. This has happened about 4 times to me now. And you can't leave the lumber yard... you have to park out back, get the correct material on your ticket, walk all the way up front to do the exchange and walk all the way to the back to your vehicle. Their stock is almost always wrong. If it says they have 10 or less of something in lumber... it's very safe to assume they have none. The only reason this gets a second star is because they FINALLY had a helpful and competent forklift driver in the yard. read more

after paying for my items I was met at the door by security. he was holding pictures of me with a $4 magnet I picked up to look at. They didn't see me set it down so he assumed I stole it. I had to go show him the box it stuck the magnet to when I decided not to buy it. If you are going to stop a customer and accuse them of stealing, you should really have good proof. BEWARE, they are ADA VIOLATORS Only reason we will go back is to return the $34k+ we just spent on construction materials. The dime store security guard informed us I had to leave because I cannot wear a mask. I explained it was a medical reason and he said "I don't care this is private property". Obviously he wanted to flex his "I have a store bought badge" mentality because had it been an issue of me actually being some sort of health threat, he wouldn't have approached or engaged me as he did. He was in my face, all but pounding his "me Tarzan with a plastic badge" fist into his chest. It actually would have been funny had he not been serious or had they not been discriminating against people unable to wear a mask. He refused to give his name but was happy to throw manager treys name under the bus in lieu of himself. Been in touch with corporate office so not to have issues returning all the building supplies. Not someone we want to give our business to now. I went to Menards this day looking for a part for my shower drain. On a previous day the sales associate told me that if brought in the item he could help me locate what I needed. So, on this day I brought the item in inside a Walmart bag walk inside the door pass the security guard. The sales associate looks at my part & tells me that only 2 parts they sold would work. So I got both colors because I needed to decide. I continued on to get a few more products. While I was shopping I noticed the same security guard that I passed coming into the store watching me. I go to the register to pay for my $11 worth of parts & another security guard approached me saying " you need to pay for the items in your bag". I opened up my bag only a part that was 20 years old was in the bag. The guy was aggressive with no reason to approach me being that the security guard at the door saw me bring the bag from my car into the store. I had been in this store several times before this day brought several parts in to match during the renovations at my home. However , the MOD on duty told me that they check his bags too when he leaves. Absurd right! They checking his bags because he's an employee & that's what he signed up, if Menards gone check bags they should check everyone bags. The fat security guard attempted to loud talk me I guess to scare me but his size didn't bother me. I loud talked him & told him go watch the footage. He went & watched it & realized they made a mistake he attempted to apologize I told him & the Manager to keep the same energy. To be clear, I parked my brand new car by the door, where security cameras could see my license plate. I wear a distinctive shirt & bag that has a company logo on it. A quick Google search would of told them where I worked & a snapshot of my picture my employer would of identified me instantly. People that steal take things of value I had a drain trap $3, light sockets about 5 .84 cents each & draino. Nope I didn't buy those items I left them all at the register went across the street to Home Depot with my same bag no problems then down the street to Lowes still no problem. I spoke to other security guards & police officers & was told I should of never been approached being he saw me bring the bag inside the store. Also, while inside of the store they never saw me put anything into my bag. They assumed I was doing something illegal. When I told them I'm a federal government employee & it's no way I would risk my livelihood over for 11 then apologized started coming in but I didn't fall for them because my profession shouldn't matter. The people that were stealing they walked right the door because Menards has 2 of the dumbest security guards. I hope I can rate a zero on delivery. If not, when you see the lowest rating, know that it is really a zero. I have went to this Menards for years and have spent thousands of dollars. There has been minor problems in the pass such as helping me load up in the yard. But last week may have been the straw to break my loyalty for good. I went in on a Saturday and bought $500 worth of building material. They told me they could deliver it to me at 9 am on Weds. Well on Weds. I finally called the deliver service at 12:30 or 1 pm and asked what was going on? He told me that Menards should not have told me the delivery time as he and his business determines it. However, he said he would be there with the delivery in about an hour. After waiting for two and one half hours, I went to the store and made a fuss till they gave me a refund. I was furious. Now I have to wait and watch to make sure my VISA is refunded. If not, I will post again and make a complaint to the authorities. I truly had be lulled into believing that this was a half way decent store. My carry away from this is don't trust Menards and try to find someplace else to take your business to. read more

I came in to purchase a light, which was shown in-stock online. The older gentleman working the area explained to me that they were out of stock and were unable to sell me the floor model. I leave. I look on the website, it says I can pick up the FLOOR model at this location. I go back to the store only to get a bunch of terrible attitude from the lighting section manager about why they can't sell me the fixture, only to be sold the fixture after I explained what their website said. When I get up to the front to pay the friendly cashier says that I should get a discount. Guess who got to make that call? The, couldn't-be-bothered, lighting area manager, in which she said "NO". We come here weekly and it just always seems like such an inconvenience when you ask for any assistance. With 2 other home-improvement retailers within a stones-throw, you would think they would be friendlier. read more

I've been coming to this Menards for a few years now, as it's the closest one to where I live, downtown. I've always had great customer service, but today I went to the outdoor section to try and find some hardy flowers for some planters I have. Lita and another woman (wish I remembered her name!) we're so helpful! They talked with me for about 15 minutes showing me different varieties and even the proper way to trim roses. Even though the flower section was lacking due to the odd time of year, I was happy to find that all trees, shrubs and roses were 30% off. So thankful for the service these ladies provided in helping me with my lacking green thumb! read more

I like coming to this store to look for things as they have an odd collection of things not normally in a giant hardware store such as pet food and supplies, canned foods, dry food goods odd brands of soda pop and much more. It's fun to explore and see the strange things a hardware store sells, haha. Kind of like they mixed a Big Lots into part of their inventory, haha. I like to compare prices here with the other national chain hardware stores and Menards is usually right on par with the rest. Plus it seems Menards is able to special order things the other stores can't such as a customer wood look metal frame door. And it was a decent price too. By far the worst service I have EVER experience. I am not sure if the place is beginning to fall apart or what is going on, I won't name the experiences. I will tell you this much. It took 3 BAD, CONSECUTIVE; experiences for me to stop money from flowing into this branch, maybe even at a whole level. We can go right across the street to Home Depot, where the selection and service is better, and get 10% off every purchase with a military ID. Menards is my go to hardware store. They've got a good selection of cheap tools that can only be beat by the guys at Harbor Freight. Frequent sales can lead to even better deals. Huge selection of lumber and great prices. If you're buying the cheap stuff it can be ratty, but they better grades of lumber are fine. I've bought a lot of cedar, pine, and treated lumber over the years. Plumbing, laminate flooring, vinyl flooring, bathroom fixtures, Christmas and Halloween decorations. On and on. Service? I don't really need any service as this is a DIY thing for me. The checkouts are well staffed, friendly, and efficient. The guys at the contractor desk are very knowledgeable and quickly process large lumber orders. I've done special orders of doors and pull-down attic stairs and that has always worked well. A real sleeper deal at Menards is Brach's candies! Specifically Brach's Maple Nut Goodies and Double Dippers chocolate covered peanuts. Often these bagged candies taste stale, but at Menards they are fresh! All I can imagine is they turn over with a good volume of sales. read more

Virtually all experiences have been positive and prices (sink, faucet, lumber, cleaners, painting accessories, hand tools, power tools) have been lower than others. A lot of times the help can direct me in the right direction; however sometimes they are less than helpful. Once I priced out many cedar planks and posts (Thursday), 2x6's, and upon arriving with my truck to purchase them the next day (Friday) they quoted me completely different prices, increasing the price of lumber for a project by 20+%, or a few hundred dollars for this particular project. read more
