My family loves out of state so though they can provide guidance I'm always stumped as to where to go for certain items. Now I have found it and better yet they give great advice! My war with squirrels brought me here. I needed chicken wire to deter those pests from eating my freshly planted tulips bulbs. I called and they had 3 varieties to choose from. When I showed up, it felt like I was stepping back in time and I loved every moment. I was greeting and given guidance to what I needed. The gentleman even considered price when making a suggestion to me. Not trying to up sell or give me more than what I needed to get the job done! I'm hoping today's war against the squirrels efforts did the trick but if they didn't, I know where I can go to get some new supplies!

In the back of the store they still have a scale to sell nails by the pound. At the front counter they can make a duplicate key for you and it will probably work the first time, unlike the key machine at the chain hardware store. Furnaces and parts for them are available here. Sinks, faucets, drain parts are all here as well. Only 2 employees, so if you live in the neighborhood, you can get to know them and make this your one stop shop for hardware. You can look around in here, but you should really ask to find what you need because some of the stuff they carry is in the back. I really enjoyed my short time here because it reminded me of the hardware store I grew up visiting with my Dad when I was little.

I think Fusek's True Value is the only other hardware store in the downtown area, so for those who reside near here (especially those who own homes with lawns downtown), there is now another option. It is located across the parking lot from the new Bodhi Cocktail Bar & Thai Bistro in the site formerly home to Indy Reads (which moved to Fountain Square.) Before you read any further, know that because I don't live downtown, I didn't engage in any transactions while here, so I hope others will soon add more detailed shopping information than I can. The shop is especially prepared for home owners in the area. Lots of items for outdoor work as well a the standard aisles of small items do it yourselfers need and can't find elsewhere. Note that when we visited, a "house" dog was lounging near the counter. So, I would advise not bringing your pets with you to shop since I don't know how they might interact. The dog did not move during our entire visit. Seemed well mannered. One of the benefits of shopping here is that they are open 24 hours a day. My wife asked and yes, they do get shoppers throughout the night! I am glad I'm too old for those all night projects now, but realize that when you get started on something, you sometimes just want to get it done and having a place to get the supplies you need is a huge benefit! The one negative that keeps this from an even higher rating is that the parking is very limited and if you wanted to bring a big truck for hauling larger or multiple purchases, you may have some difficulty in the small parking/loading area compared to most hardware stores I have frequented. But, the store did have a lot of needs covered. I think they are supposed to be a paint supply specialty shop as well. But I didn't realize that until I got home and read some info on their website. We purchased several vegetables, like kale, cabbage, Brussel, sprouts, and more. We also purchased some soil and a few other household items we were running low on. Our experience was great from start to finish, and I was very impressed with their selection of gardening vegetables. There were multiple varieties of greens, a dozen plus a Herbs, and pretty much everything you could need to start an expansive vegetable garden. He told me he had never seen or heard of anything being online as I was offering to show him the info on my phone. I was confused about this reaction because it was this store that prompted me to sign up for the awards program online in the first place. He seemed agitated and cut me off mid-sentence and walked away from the register. He also said he would 'check with someone.' The cashier and I were both confused by this. She asked him to confirm whether or not he was talking to someone else about it while he was standing 10 feet away noticeably not busy. He scoffed and replied 'I'm not doing that today' while rolling his eyes. The cashier looked uncomfortable and apologized to me. The manager didn't care if I made a purchase or not. I'm not sure if he was in a bad mood before I came in, but he was unnecessarily rude and unprofessional in a situation that could have easily been treated with more grace. The other Sullivan locations nearby have been amazing with their customer service. I recommend shopping with any one of them instead.

I've been going to this hardware store for over 30 years and I will never return…read more I purchased a replacement lock for my back door. It was in the sealed plastic stuff from hell that there's no easy clean way of opening. So I cut the top off. Discovered a lock washer was broken so I unscrewed the screw to replace it, then something clicked in the mechanism. Replaced the washer only to find the entire thing wasn't working correctly. I'm no locksmith. I went to return it for a refund and was told it wasn't returnable because of the way I cut the packaging open. ? There is no easy way to cut in to those things so what the heck? They said they had signs indicating such a thing but there were signs for everything EVERYWHERE. As a customer I'm supposed to reach each and every sign in your store? The supervisor went to the manager to ask about a refund and she said no. I guess this place is under new ownership or something? You'll never stay open if this is how you're dealing with customers. VERY disappointed and I seriously will never set foot in that store again.

We also picked up several tomato and pepper plants, and everything looked incredibly well cared for and high quality. It's the kind of place where you walk in for "just a couple plants" and leave inspired to redo your whole patio and garden. But the real surprise? The Grill at Sullivan Hardware & Garden. Yes -- a grill inside a garden center, and honestly, it deserves its own destination trip. The baked brie was outstanding, the Reuben was easily a five-star sandwich, and the brisket potato soup was the standout of the meal. Rich, flavorful, comforting, and absolutely packed with brisket flavor. What really made the visit special was seeing owner Pat Sullivan there working right alongside the staff.
