after making an online order and receiving confirmation of it being pulled and ready, I showed up to the store to pick it up and find one of the items incorrect. after taking it back into the store, I was told that they currently didn't have the correct item in stock ,me explaining that it showed three currently in stock at that store. at that point I was.informed that it was obviously a mistake. But they would get one ordered in for me in short term.. my explaining that I had a crew on the job site , waiting for the materials that had already been paid for, yet unable to deliver. Knowing that the crew would still have to be compensated for their time. I asked to speak to the manager to express my frustrations.. with zero compassion he proceeded to play on his PC for about five minutes to inform me that it was in fact, correct that they didn't have one in store, but if given a little bit of time, he could possibly find one in store. After waiting approximately 15-20 more minutes I requested that the full order just be returned. ,at this point, I was informed of the fact that the money that I had paid shopping online to purchase the materials that were in stock wouldn't be returned to me for five days. leaving me with the financial obligation of paying my crew a minimum of one hour of labor but having to send them home do to no materials and having to come out of pocket to pay for the materials that I had already paid for on a confirmed purchase from Menards. The store managers sarcasm, and lack of compassion is compounded by my financial loss due to Menards mistake. Their truck rentals are advertised as being $18.95, but they neglect to mention the required $300 deposit. There's a $5 surcharge for renting on a Sunday and they charge per mile too. The truck I rented said the tank was full, so I put gas in it after I used it for my 14 mile round trip travel thinking it would be a maximum of 2 gallons of gas. I shut the pump off myself at $10, which was almost 4 gallons!!! I WILL NOT be renting a truck from Menard's again!!​ read more

First time in the store. It's huge and bright. Low competitive prices. That's about the only good thing. Customer service? Non existent. Friendly staff? Nope. Not at all. I wandered up and diwn the aisles unable to find what I was looking for, so I had to find a staff member...she told me the wrong area. So I wandered more about to give up when I came across another staff member, he took me way across to the other side of the store! Lowes and Home Depot offer aisle numbers on the apps and websites. I love Menards! My mom and I visited looking for a kitchen faucet. We were told by the employee that the brand we had, the company sends the part for free, with the guarantee. Which ended up being true. As of the store itself, it's wonderful. It has everything you'd want, and it was hard to categorize it on Yelp. It has hardware for sure, but work clothing, paints, decorations, and has a better than basic grocery store stuck in middle.The food section has baking, canned goods, some basic frozen, snacks, milk, eggs, soda. It has an organic section. I loved their Christmas decoration area. It's a huge store, and I have no complaints and will be utilizing them A great addition, and we should feel lucky to have a Menards. read more

I bought a snow blower in the fall last year. I carefully followed the instructions for the 11% rebate. I have been patiently waiting but nothing has materialized. It's been 4 months and no rebate. This isn't the first time, no rebate. Could it be, they just hope no one follows up or simply forget. After all , 12 weeks is a long time to keep your eye on the mailbox. Don't lose your store credit certificate. After some returns we had a few hundred in store credit. We made some purchases on the store credit that day, and had about 98 dollars left over. The cashier handed us the receipt, and told us we would need that to show what we had left. A few weeks later we go in the store to pick up a few things with the receipt in hand. They told us they cant give us credit because it doesn't have a series of numbers they need at the bottom, and we needed the certificate. We didn't think we had gotten the certificate back. The store manager went to check security footage from that day and said we did. But refused to let us see the footage. It is very possible they handed the original certificate back to us, but we will never know. So, somehow this store can keep track of every purchase made on security footage, but can't keep track of store credit. I don't see how a corporation this large can not keep track of store credit, but has such an amazing security system that they can go into a room for five minutes and come back and tell you that they gave you the certificate from a few weeks ago. read more

We went to look for new windows and unfortunately they didn't have the size we needed in stock because it was an odd size. This review has three parts. The first regards the overall, fabulously overwhelming store, the next regards an experience I had in late September with a return at customer service, and the later with a painstaking issue everyone should have with how rebates are handled at the Menard's chain. I first discovered this store in St. Joseph, MO and was very happy to find out that we would soon have several locations in the Kansas City area. The products are great and, basically, you can get everything under the sun for a reasonable price. It's a great place to work out too, and by that, I mean, a good place to walk for long periods, while getting lots of update ideas. Last September, I had a bad experience with a return at a customer service. The person behind the counter, well lets say, I am going to be politically correct here, but she was lazy and I will let you visualize what I mean. I had to show this person where on my receipt the item was and how to find the bar code on the product to match it with the receipt. I assume she had either missed training or they plopped her behind the counter from off the street in order for Menards to get a tax break from this person's hours. Anyhoo, she should have given me cash refund or returned the amount to my debit since I had the receipt, instead she gave me a $3 in-store credit. No biggie, at that time because I was going to shop for some tile. A few weeks later, I go to the return counter because, although, I had purchase tile, I bought a few other things as well, and I changed my mind on one thing that would not work out for a project I had. It was only an $8 item, but this shouldn't have been a big deal. This time, another customer service lady was savvy and kind but insisted that I could not receive a refund, not even partial, because I had provided the cashier on the day of purchase my $3 in-store credit on a $40 something total purchase, and the $8 (new returning item) in theory, should have been refunded with $5 in cash and, maybe, a separate $3 refunded in-store credit, to be used again. But, because I had used a measly $3 in-store credit my receipt (I assume) was flagged from ever receiving a full refund because I used in-store credit, making my purchase, in theory, some exclusionary Menard's only cash. I asked to speak to the lady's manager, which was none other than some flaming stuffy red head who made me feel like I was a nuisance. She encouraged me to get some other products. And this is when I realized that Menards, although neat and overwhelming eye-catchy for their consumers, particularly cares about keeping any penny you spend there. I went ahead and gave my receipt and apprehensively received a now $8 in-store credit. The problem after this is that the red-head manager never returned my receipt when she handed me the credit so that I couldn't ever mail the receipt w/rebate to the "Rebate International," which sounds rather scammy, for the some odd $32 left on the receipt for products I had purchased and still owned. Which brings me to the point with regards to how rebates are handled at Menards. There is a fundamental issue with the way Menards has set up rebates, and their lure to try and gain customer whim, making the customer had the edge, in their own Wal-Mart fashion. The rebate is set up as such that you can only mail (yes, in this technologically advanced age, snail mail) your rebate, and there isn't any way to enter rebates online by adding transaction numbers and amounts paid, such as many technologically advanced big boxes do. I had recently checked to see the status of my rebates, at least I had sent three in, and one I had just received in the mail. I would have had four if I had received back the one the manager never handed back. The two other rebates, according to the rebateinternational.com are unaccounted for. When I had mailed off two together, in order to save a postage stamp, with two separate rebate slips for each I assumed that I could or should trust Menards and/or their affiliate : rebate international to keep all rebates organized and accounted for. I was wrong. Apparently, there is a website with regards to very dissatisfied customers who have vented at Menards. p**ssed consumer.com, and you will find many varied discrepancies with missing rebates. One person claims that anything above $50 for an 11% rebate seems to magically disappear. It seems to go hand in hand with my theory that Menards is like the roach motel of consumers cash, once you check it in it never comes out. I will still shop there, but I suppose, unless I'm not sure it is a good deal, and I can get it for less elsewhere. If it seems like it's too expensive I can and maybe should purchase it with a credit card since most credit cards will protect you on your purchases. read more

Menard's hopes you will forget about your rebate. I bought a generator in September. Its now January and still haven't received the rebate. After multiple phone calls, Menard's is now taking the position that they want to wait until the generator returns to being on rebate status before I will be able to return to the store and beg for it. Menard's is going to lose out on much more than a $44 rebate when I use Home Depot and Lowe's as plan a and plan b. read more

Great store with great products. Extremely arrogant lazy and unprofessional management and staff. I took a trip to the outdoor lumberyard July 28th picked up my items drove to the gate and gave the "load checker" my receipt, she checked it, went into the guard shack and lowered the whittled down scrap lumber 1x already opened gate onto my truck, gate breaks, damaging my hood and fender. Gate lady laughs and tells me she's the second time it happened that day. It just gets better from here. The gate lady calls the joke of a store manager and tells me to wait for them as she continues to check loads. several minutes later I ask her what's going on?? she calls the managers again and they tell her they want me to come inside the store. I go into the store approach the two females standing at the counter with the phones up to their face and ask if one of them is a manager to my surprise both these idiots reply "we are both managers" I told them that the gate had hit my truck they both laugh and say we watched it on camera, she tells Me we will get you taken care of as soon as John Doe gets off the computer- John Doe is busy taking an important call about a screen door. 15 minutes later I ask one of the two "managers" how long is this going to take, she tells me he should almost be done with the computer so we will be done shortly.. 25 mins later she takes my info and give me a card for Menards joke of an insurance company Gallagher Basset and tells me they will be in touch. Not once was I apologized to for the damage to my vehicle and we going on 2 weeks and my truck is still scratched. THANK YOU Menards Independance 2 months later my truck is still not repaired. Menards insurance says it's not Menards responsibility it was an outside vendor controlling the gate. Time to hire a attorney. read more

Been here several times. No one ever seems to ask if you need help, they just walk past you. This time there was two guys just walking around stocking the shelves. Not even once in the almost 30 minutes I stood in the aisle trying to figure out what I needed did they ask me if I needed help. Could I have chased them down as they walked past me? Perhaps, but it is their job to help customers. Maybe try checking at least once if the customer needs help. Decided to start doing my business at Home Depot. They are always checking on their customers in the years I have been going there. Nice selection Menards; why not train your associates to help customers? Menard's has a great selection and decent prices... however their 11% rebate is a crock we've mailed in 3 different ones and NEVER gotten one back. Menard's uses a third party company for the rebates and they not the company take any responsibility for them. Next I spent 98.00 and used a 50.00 gift card on my purchase. My blinds didn't work out so I returned them $30 worth and Menard's refused to give me my CASH back. They gave me a merchandise credit piece of paper... RIDICULOUS! Sure thing I'll lose it. I set an order up to be paid by a customer. He went in to pay and I came to pick up the materials he paid for 2 days later. And they didn't have everything he paid for on his order. So I asked for a refund so I may go to Lowe's to get what I needed to complete the job. But they are not issuing refunds. So let me get this right. My customer paid for his shit but it's not guaranteed all his materials? I was told First some first serve.. he did come , three days ago, where's his first serve? The order on line and pick up is a joke, I ordered day ahead, after I arrived and called them as instructed it took 2 more phone calls, me going into store twice second time to inform them my order was incomplete and a little more than 45 minutes to have them bring the order to my car. Once the kid wheeled the cart to my car he asked if I wanted help loading items when he could clearly see my leg was in a cast! read more

I have been trying to fix up many things in my condo/unit for years now lol, and I recently had a close friend from high school move in with me (we are in our mid 20's), and he actually knows quite a bit more than myself about handy work. We both have really liked going into Menards, and we both are used to places like Lowes and Home Depot (I prefer Menards by far) I am about to go get a Window Rod for Drapes is why I thought to write a review after we've had multiple successful visits (shopping experiences). I saw someone had mentioned in another review about it being hard to find people who work there and how that wasn't anything new in comparison to Lowes or other stores ect. But.. I really find the staff over like 4-5 visits (soon to be 6th) to be far more helpful than at Home Depot for sure, and the thing is it is a HUGE store compared to Home Depot or Lowes.. I felt like I was in Nebraska Furniture Mart I was telling my roommate "Expect for hardware more than Furniture lol" He agreed. And like also was said in that same review, "They have groceries" but they have like so much extra stuff, I found it odd for something I assumed was just a hardware store, but epic XD we found butterscotch pudding snack packs and we were both like yassss lol because we'd been having trouble finding that flavor (they do have quite the selection of food and not at bad prices at all) I am Culinary Arts Grad (side note) XD. Anyways, so far our projects have went well because our product searches have went well, and help with finding what we needed and the overall layout of the store have been very satisfactory. It's a huge store indeed, but that just means more selection (And exercise!) lol... I am sort of chunky and am on the ever so common journey of weight loss, aka I am American (no offense intended XD) (just saying we all have fast food fever) I find it very beneficial how big the store is. [Pro to getting lost in a store: More Calories/units of energy burned] when we get lost or are on the hunt for a certain product. [Other Pro to wandering around: Find pudding snack pack flavor on accident** XD then go back to store for later project to burn off the calories] and repeat the cycle. Overall, in conclusion. I far prefer Menards now, over Lowes or Home Depot or Costco or places like that. I had no idea what it was like inside besides the Genre of hardware store. I must say was pleasantly surprised. And their customer service was great too I forgot mention, when I saw that a simple mistake was made (on my receipt) after I got back to my car. It was $4 and something cents I had purchased door jams or wedges, it got rang up for a pack of 10 or something by mistake for $40+ rather than $4. (all that I had to do was walk back into the store and on the right is the 2nd (of 2 that I noticed) Customer Service desks, and the lady was polite and joked about just seeing us as we walked out, "Hey I just saw you guys didn't I" and I explained and showed her the receipt and she pulled up the receipt on their computer in seconds, refunded the correct amount, and it was all under 2 minutes, I walked out and felt much better (we are tight on a budget as well lol) also not alone in that I am sure. We went home and enjoyed pudding XD and our new Bathroom Ventilation Fan/Light project is just now complete and so very much an improvement to this shady 30+ year old other one. Had delivery service scheduled for a Thursday between 7-12. Very poor service. Finally got call stating that it would be maybe Friday evening or Saturday morning before supplies would be delivered. That phone call was received at 430pm. I would not recommend the delivery service for a big order at this time. read more

I purchased about $8000 in building materials 4 weeks ago. Some items had to be ordered because it wasn't available in store. Common items but just not at this store. I set up delivery at the same time as the order so that when all items arrived they would be delivered. Monday the 5th from 12 to 6 was my delivery time. I waited the entire day to later find out for what ever reason and without informing me my delivery was put on pending status. IT was rescheduled for the up coming Wednesday for a 12 to 6 delivery. Again I waited all day and NO DELIVERY. I called and talked to the Manager of the store and he was aware of the delivery not being made. He gave many excuses which were mostly based on the delivery service not doing their job. The fact that I was not notified on neither of the failed deliveries was blamed on the Manager not being able to make all the calls himself, HOW MANY DELIVERIES COULD THERE BE IN ONE DAY . MAYBE 10 OR SO? HE CAN'T MAKE 10 CALLS to make sure customers are treated with some respect. He said he designated it to others whom did not do it. Bottom line, I as the customer now have waited more than 12 hours in two delivery attempts where they knew it was not going to be delivered but never called to advise. At this point they should be paying me for the time I've wasted instead of me paying them. Not pleased with this Menards so far. Now I'm told it will be delivered tomorrow, not morning but again 12 to 6. Boy, Have I heard that before, before, before. Just to add a bit more. I also ordered several windows and a patio door with this the day I set up shipping. All was ok. Later I find out they can't ship the windows and door because of them not being packaged to take the ride. They said I could hire another truck to deliver those items. Started going here a few months ago, was always a Home Depot person but wanted to check it out. Found I really liked the prices and loved the lumber department. Had a few things I didn't care for when returning lumber, had a lot of hoops to go through but hey they had all the lumber I needed and in stock and no place is perfect, so stuck with them. Have bought lights, and other household items there, spending $400-$800 over that time and had no issues. Was needing a shed for the house and looked around a few places and found the one I wanted at Menards, order process was easy and fast, paid for it that day- all is good. This has all changed now after ordering the shed 3 weeks ago. Ordered the materials to be delivered, was informed 2 pieces needed to be special ordered and the rest was in stock so once those 2 items came in would receive a call to set up delivery. Order placed on 07/07/17, special ordered items came in on 07/12/17 per a email I got to confirm ready for pick up. Did not pay much attention to email date as I assumed they would call me that week to schedule a delivery, I thought wrong. I contacted the store (Independence) to find out where the order was. Talked with a GM, who will remain nameless, no reason to trash the person. "Looks like the order just came in and someone will contact you Monday or Tuesday (07/24-07/25) to schedule a delivery. So Lie #1: came in on 07/12/17 and on 07/22/17 when I called "it just came in sir". As you may have guessed no phone call on Monday, Tuesday, or even Wednesday. Went to the store to find out W T F is going on, spoke with a helpful delivery manager and appears the GM that took my original order did not submit it right and the order was set to pending and NEVER processed correctly. Let him know needs to be in my driveway tomorrow Friday 07/28/17 by mid day so when I get home from work I can start building the shed. Looked at the delivery manifest and was third in line to be delivered between 7am-12 noon. Was upset a bit but good to go this weekend to build the shed so all is good. Received first phone call from delivery manager at 11am Friday "order should be there in a few hours, driver has 1 more stop to make then will be there." Next phone call was at 4 pm, something about driver being pulled over, DOT issues and jammed up for hours, and the store knew nothing about this or that's what I was told. I then called store back at 5 pm to speak to them as to where my material was. "Sir the driver is on his way back to the store from the first delivery in KC and once he gets back he will be to your home." Lie #2 when I scheduled delivery the manifest had Blue Springs, Oak Grove, then me (not KC). So at this point I lost my cool a bit, not good on my part but I do not like being lied to. Oh meant to throw this in earlier "Miscommunication from so and so" was the main reason for all this, heard that multiple times from a few folks. Waited til 8 pm this evening 3 hours after speaking to the GM. Bare in mind only 1 time in 3 weeks did someone from the store contact me, and even confirmed last Saturday they had the correct phone number as maybe I gave them the wrong one. Not the case they have the right number. I'm assuming their phones just can't dial out locally for some reason, only explanation as to why I cant get a simple update phone call. Called the store again at 8pm asked status of delivery from a nice gentlemen from the delivery department. "Delivery just left. He had 1 stop to make first then will be there." This is where I lost my temper. Could not understand with all the issues I had why I could not get the common courtesy to get the delivery to me ASAP, as I had been promised to get it before noon today. The GM, who was at the end of his shift, did not seem very concerned considering he never contacted in that 3 hour window as promised, to notify me that the delivery was on its way. I guess their phone system could not dial out. Again. I asked for the delivery to be canceled and to give me a full refund. This individual on the phone did not know how to contact the driver or how to facilitate a refund or who to transfer me to, to take care of this matter. Again, miscommunication on all ends at this place. I called back and spoke with the store manager who was able to rectify some of the situation- she refunded my money- and I made clear they will not see another penny from me. I'm pissed and sharing my experience in hopes that the store will see fit to make changes and keep others from going through the same frustrations and stress that I have gone through, all to get my shed. With all DUE respect someone on your end is stealing. Firstly, there are several rebates requests you say you have no knowledge of ( 0307, 0304, 0390, 0384, 0350, 0338, 0417). They were certainly mailed to you. Or perhaps someone at the post office is selectively stealing the rebate requests before you receive them. You mailed me checks on 5-13-17 and 5-24-17 for additional rebates the scoundrel at the post office missed when I mailed them but they were miraculously picked off at the post office after they were mailed to me. Obviously I have yet to receive either check. In addition to all of these coincidences when I go onto the system to check the status of my rebates the system is egregiously in accurate. Even per your accounting. Maybe the scoundrel at the post office has hacked your system! There are a few possible scenarios: There is indeed a scoundrel at the post office intercepting the mail, I am the "Village Idiot" and never mailed the rebate requests, or someone is stealing or committing fraud on your end.
