I don't usually write reviews because- well I'm lazy. However today I have to give credit to Joe Huewe who is the Cabinet & Appliance manager. Last Saturday we bought a high-efficiency Maytag Bravo wash machine because sadly our 1988 washer broke. I have never been so livid in my life to find out what a piece of crap these "HE" machines are. I have heard horror stories on how they brake down often and get moldy. But not realizing that they actually don't clean the clothes, and if you do want a soak wash you have to wait an hour and a half for it to be done. I could go on about my disappointment and anger with these stupid HE machines,but Ill spare you with the details. So upon doing further research I knew I needed a speed queen which unfortunately Menards does not carry that brand. I have read reviews on how the Menards return policy is a little bogus so I kind of knew what I was up against. When I called and explain to Joe my issue he originally said that I could only return it, if I exchanged it for another machine. Now mind you I'm still within the 7 days of purchasing it. I told him that unfortunately there was not a brand at Menards that I wanted and that I would just be even happy with store credit but I did not want this washing machine what so ever. He put me on hold to ask his GM if store credit would be ok. Only to find out no it was not, that I would have to call Whirlpool myself to see if they could do something etc etc. This is when I got even more heated, and obviously not at Joe because he doest make the rules...but are you freaking kidding me?! So Joe had to listen to the wrath I was unleashing(poor guy). He told me he would call them and see what they could do. I honestly wasn't expecting to hear anything back from him because I'm sure he was like screw this lady. But you know what, Joe came through. Just when I thought I was totally done with Menards, Joe emailed me saying I could get the full refund. Joe you big sweety you, I hope they give you a raise. Because you earned it. Going out of your way for a crazy lady. Bless your soul. read more

Great product selection and pricing. Today I had a great service experience. I was returning 4 items purchased at 3 different times from 2 different Menards stores. The service desk guy was great, he was super fast and efficient. I had my refund credit slip and was leaving the store in about 2 minutes. I appreciate the efficiency, especially when I'm busy with errands as I was today. Thanks Menards! read more

Service in the store was spotty, but once we found someone who knew how to schedule a delivery he was very helpful. They were also helpful in arranging delivery of the furniture we bought when we had to adjust the delivery window. The furniture was defective, but after some effort we finally managed to speak to someone who could help us. They offered to send another delivery truck out to pick up and replace the defective piece. Very poor phone system. It took many, many calls just to get to the switchboard, because the line is almost busy. The store also seems understaffed. Once you get some attention, though, they are quite helpful. read more

I wish I could give less than 1 star. I have been a frequent customer here since they originally opened in Lombard probably 10 years ago. I need to share with you my experience last July. I purchased a lawn mower on July 3 to use at my summer place. On 7/5 I assembled it, gassed it up and it would not stay running. On 7/7 I attempted to return it to Menards. When I told the clerk my issue she said "Did you put gas in it?" I told her I did and she replied "We will not accept it for return if you have put gas into it." I explained that if I had not put gas into it I would not know that it didn't run and also without gas I could not mow my lawn, which is why I bought the mower in the first place. After calling Menards headquarters and getting the same response I took it to their repair facility where I was required to put up a cash deposit to cover the inspection. The next day I got a call from the repair shop saying that the float in the carburetor had been damaged by a hot screw driver. I explained that I had not taken the mower apart and that was how I received it from Menards. I reported this to Menards and they were unmoved. They said I needed to pay for the repair and have the manufacturer reimburse me. The repair man told me that the manufacturer would not reimburse since there was damage to the mower. I grudgingly paid for the repair only to find that the mower then ran, but was very erratic. Reving up, then nearly dying. After nearly 2 months I finally wore the manufacturer down and they agreed to give me my purchase price back. I asked how about the $50 I spent for repairs and they refused. Finally after 6 or 7 calls they agreed to pay for the repair too. Menards will not accept anything with a gasoline motor as a return if you put gas into it. The manufacturer told me that if I were to buy anything else with a gas motor to go to Home Depot or Lowes. They will accept defective equipment for up to 60 days from purchase. read more

Too bad I can't give less than 1 star! I walked around for about an 45 minutes looking for something. Nobody I guess could see I was confused or even say hello. Home Depot always sees if someone needs help or greets their customers throughout the store. Don't even get me started on the Ace Hardware chain . My local Ace hardware in Wheaton , like Home Depot in Carol Stream, will go out of they're way to help they're customers. Prices are better at Mennards , but I hate patronizing a company that takes they're customers for granted. Your not Walmart guys and can disappear if enough people go elsewhere ! read more

Worst customer service Ive ever had. I was wondering the store looking for people that worked in the department I needed for more than 30 minutes until I found someone. I asked for help to find an item number of times and everyone would just disappear in a second without even acknowledging I was there. I walked out pissed off. What a waste of time read more

I love menards but this store just seems to be backwards .. Is it just me or do some of these big store not always seem to flow the same . When you go in the door they should all be the same because its easy to find what your looking for .. But this particular store just has little help so please let them know they need more staff . read more

Amazing customer service. They have all been so thorough and helpful in helping my dad replace his sump pump. After going back and forth exchanging pump units and parts, they've been super patient throughout this whole ordeal. Started off as lovely shopping for summer home needs. As we check out, we experienced such a rude, bitter, miserable, woman named Marzieh. She snatched things out of our hands as we tried to organize our flowers for her. She carelessly started scanning away not keeping track of what she was scanning. She was not helpful at all and when we explained to her that she was there to help us, she yelled at us and said we were there to help her. Not someone that needs to work in customer service. She was very flustered for no reason and should never take your bad attitude out on a customer. When we nicely tried helping her organize our things on the counter to make things easier on her, she angrily rang her bell to get assistance for whatever reason and the woman to help was very very nice so I appreciated that but I don't know how that woman has a job there. This would keep me from coming back to this location. OH and she intentionally turned her name tag around so we couldn't see her name but I guess she forgot her name was on our receipt. read more

If you are going to Menard's because it is cheap- You are definitely getting what you pay for with their customer service! I am not going to put down the items they carry, or the hours, etc. My experience with special ordering a bathroom vanity and sink has by far been the worst experience overall with remodeling my entire house! My item was suposed to arrive in 2 weeks and I did not receive it for approx. 2 months. The main issue is that no matter who I spoke to ( salespeople, department mangers, store manager's) I was always promised a call back and 9 out of 10 times that didn't happen. Of the 10 people I dealt with, each had a different answer for me, from it will be here tomorrow, it won't be here for a week, the sink is here but not the cabinet and you can pick that up, no actually it will be here the following week, we can't find it, we have to re-order it, now we can confirm the date , actually now it's not here yet, we'll just call you. I could keep going on but I won't. In the attempt to get some resolution for not just the wait but the terrible customer service and frustration, I thought it was appropriate for the store manager to at least take some small % off what I had paid for the vanity, but nope, not at this Menard's. Thanks for the headache and anxiety without ever even attempting to somehow make up for any of the multiple things you did wrong for 2 months! read more

Everyone we encountered was very helpful. This was one of the few times, where several of the employees, actually knew, exactly where the products were, that I was looking for. In my past experiences, shopping at hardware stores, a lot of the employees, have no clue, where items are located. They were not busy when we went, so i just approached Steve, who worked in the cabinets & appliances section. He was super helpful, friendly, personable,and knowledgeable. In fact, he made a normal, routine shopping experience, so much more. He actually made us happy, just talking to him. I just want to give credit where credit is due, for making it one of the best shopping experiences we've had. These days, it's all too evident that most people hate their jobs, so it's refreshing, when that's not evident to the customers. read more

Store security is an outside source. They answer to no one. They prey on seniors for a quick 150.00 "restitution" charge. My father picked up a battery ( hearing aid size) and put in cart. It was missing at checkout so it fell out thru the bottom. As soon as he crossed the doors to exit the security guard brought him back into store and searched him. No battery. He passed the search but was told to pay them 150.00 or they will call police and have him arrested. Again NO BATTERY was found on him. He asked to walk thru store and look for it on the floor. The security guy told him he was told not to enter the store. Be very careful in Menards Stores.. If you drop something or put something back... It could cost you dearly. read more

I will no longer shop at Menards. Bought four 80" x 30" Mastercraft doors. Not a single one measured 30 inches; they didn't even measure the 29 13/16" that was printed on the door label. As a result, not a single doors fit properly in my 30 inch door frames. Went back to Menards, where they played the blame game and never took responsibility for selling a sub-standard product. They claimed no door is 30" anymore. It will now cost me double the door installation labor costs (an additional $400) since my contractor had to take down the Menards doors and install the Jeld-Wen doors that I purchased at Home Depot (which, by the way, all measured exactly 30 inches, were made with wood framing, and were about the same price). read more

Stopped in and got some things I needed. Went to hardware and wanted to buy a knife. Found a clearance one for $6.99 had about 15 of them on the rack. Went to check out and it rang up $14.99 walked a manager over and showed her the price she looked at it and said they made an error but would not honor the $6.99 price. What a joke. Menards has consistently had great customer service over many years. The lighting department in particular. Today I was so lucky to have Bernard help me. He is always so knowledgeable and happy. I have shopped at this store for 20 years, the last two years their sale items are gone, many times , within 1 hour of the store opening. Very poor business. Sales go anywhere from 3 days to 7 days, and the sale items are out with the first hour, of the first day, the store opens. It seems their advertisements are only to get you in the store. No rain checks. So you go for nothing. It has been getting progressively worst. read more

Decent store if you know exactly what you want and where it is and don't require assistance. They carry lower end products. I don't like how they have groceries and tools and clothes etc. Also the "rebates" that make you think your getting a deal until you discover you can only spend it back at Menards. read more

They have the worst customer service ever. I bought a bunch of cabinets and they almost all of them were ruined when they delivered them. We did not notice the damage till we unpacked them. They were very unforgiving and wanted me to bring them back to exchange. They would not send a truck to replace. When I talked to the store manager he was as bad as the manager of the cabinet department. When I ask to speak to a district manager or regional manager I was told there isn't any. I was given a customer service number which was a recording. They don't speak to customers they only take complaints in writing. What a bunch of BS. That's why they treat there customers like sh-t because they can get away with it. They don't have anybody watching them. Please don't spend your money at any menards they don't deserve it. read more

Great prices, and good service. This is one of my favoritism stores because it has many products. Some materials are cheap made but their return policy is the best, they will pretty much take anything including sump pumps! read more

Needed 5/4x6x4 pretreated lumber for a deck. I had exhausted Home Depot of their supply so I looked on line and saw that Menards had 19 in stock. I went straight to the lumber section showed a sales person what I was looking for(I had save the page on my phone) and was told it would be outside. I went outside and asked a sales person where it was located and was told inside. I told him I was told that it was outside. He said if it out here its on the second level. It wasn't, so I went back inside asked and was told it was outside. Outside guy said they don't know what their talking about so I went looking all over in and out. Finally went to the service desk and had the guy look up location. I was told they have 19 in stock and where it was located which was where I had looked 3 times earlier. I left went to a different HD found what I needed and was out the door in less than 10 minutes. I will never shop at Menards again. read more
