This was our first visit to this particular Costco as we are hardly ever in this area.  It might have been the overcast drizzly weather, but for a Costco it was pretty quiet and nicely so for a weekday afternoon.  I was wondering if maybe it's like this normally as Bloomingdale possibly just isn't as congested with people as say a Schaumburg or Niles.  IDK.   Another observation is that there was not an abundance of sampling. Some, but probably less than average for a Costco. Otherwise, it's a pretty typical Costco, meaning very good and handy, and this one also has a big and spacious parking lot. read more

Stopped by Costco to pick up some arborvitaes, which were on special, very healthy looking, and a great price. While shopping, I was surprised (and a bit grossed out) when I grabbed a box of Ready Clean protein bars and a cockroach ran away. I immediately informed one of the assistant managers, who assured me the entire pallet would be removed from the floor. Why do you need to scan a membership card to enter Costco? I can shop at 99.99% of all stores and not need a card to enter. Example Sam's club you do NOT need a card to enter. Of course I need a card to pay. There is sometimes 1 scanner and a line to enter. There are sometimes two scanners and a shorter line to enter. When asking employee WHY? The answer is "we only want members to enter." They are paying an employee to stand at a door to do this? Consider this... It is costing about $90,000 year to pay people to stand and check cards! I was in the area on Christmas Eve after work and needed gas. Fortunately, it was like 4:30. Got gas, and ran inside to see if they had any of these delicious mango cakes. They not only had mango cakes, they had other cool stuff not at my local store. We were in and out in 5 minutes - they were closing and we only needed a couple things. I was delighted to see these two employees - you can't tell but the name tags say "Cindy Lu Whoo" and "Red." I would have walked right past, but someone else was having them take a photo and I turned at the noise and was delighted. Working retail on Christmas Eve sucks, and I appreciate that not everyone is a fan of the holiday (losing family this time of year is rough), but I'm grateful to these wonderful women for trying to bring people a little extra joy. Changed policy and now have to scan ID to enter. To go into the food court you have to go through main entrance and then through the registers, not an easy task. The whole vibe is changing. Upon leaving I asked the receipt checker, " is Costco going to lose business by not letting people come to the food court?" The snotty reply was, " the food court is a loss, so...." BUY HARD III: BUY HARD...WITH A VENGEANCE   Like the 3rd installment of the John McClane franchise, Bloomingdale's Costco is no better or different than the ones that came before it.   Tired of always hitting up the Naperville store, I decided to switch things up and do some midday shopping at this Costco on Army Trail, about a mile east of County Farm Rd.  We generally buy in bulk once a month and leave basic items like milk/eggs/bread for ALDI trips (for what it's worth, Costco's milk comes in odd, square gallons with an offset spout that everyone--myself included--absolutely hates).   Our groceries have largely remained the same: Friskies canned food for the cat, formula for the baby, body armor for the wife (drinks, not Kevlar), case of Two Brothers/Lagunitas beer for me, and frozen taquitos for the whole family.  A footlong hotdog + soda for $1.50 at their foodcourt is still the best deal around, one that I would've happily taken advantage of had I not eaten lunch prior.   I had a tough time finding Enfamil.  At one point I saw an unattended cart and -- assuming it was full of 'go backs' to be restocked, since there was no way someone would be buying 5x100ct diapers and 6 bins of formula --I began to rummage through it.  My hand barely grazed the label before I heard a woman mutter the Polish equivalent of "get the fuck away from my groceries".  OOPS.   Embarrassed that I was caught attempting to poach some lady's stuff, I took a lap of shame around the store.  Eventually I swallowed my pride and asked an associate for help.  Turns out, this Costco stocks their baby formula next to the diapers way in the back (which makes sense, I suppose), but the other three Costcos I've been to stocked it near the pharmacy by the pills/powders/health supplements.   Checkout was fine.  The parking lot wrangler was cool, he offered to take my empty shopping cart after I finished loading up the car.  I definitely heard the first few bars of "Come on Eileen" blaring from a phone clipped to his belt (these ears know a one-hit wonder when they hear it). If I had his job, I'd be blasting tunes all day long, too.   * TL;DR *   There are five Die Hard movies (so far), and way more than five Costco's in the western Chicago suburbs.  That means either Bruce Willis needs to holster his Beretta for a sixth adventure, or I need to stop reviewing Costco's.  Although, after the disastrous mess that was A Good Day to Die Hard, the smart money is on the latter.   This Costco is A-OK, but the one at 75th & Route 59 is slightly nicer and the layout is familiar to us, so that remains our primary store. read more

My son had a behavior yesterday while at Costco and instead of having compassion and empathy for him and the teacher, a staff member came and told the teacher that if he couldn't behave he would have to leave the store and couldn't come back. Stopped by this Costco while traveling to see if they had the Peanut Butter Pie, that I've been hearing all about. No dice, but did see a huge key lime pie so picked up one of those (hoping we can finish it before we have to go back home). This Costco has a very large parking lot, a large number of self-checkout registers with a dedicated attendant helping to direct traffic. Decided not to get a cart this time, to force ourselves to limit our purchases, and it worked. read more

Yesterday, My husband and I made our monthly trip to Costco when we spend at least $300. As we were in the parking lot a young man who worked there stopped us and told us something was leaking from our Cart. Sure enough - it was a package that had swiffer wet cloths in it. He took it back and brought us a new one. It was such a kind act and I knew he was busy, but took the time and effort to help us. I asked his name and he told me it was Mike. I thank Mike and pray for him - such a nice man. When the mail came, the Costco Connection was there. Some of my favorite things here: Great prices for generic medicine, chocolate covered pretzels, and croissants. The quinoa salad from the deli counter wasn't great. Wish I would've checked out Costco's optical dept years ago. I've shopped at many Costco locations, but this one is quickly becoming my favorite. Clean, organized and less chaotic = less vultures compared to a closer store near me. Plus, I just have to brag about how great their optical dept is. Even if you don't come here for an exam, their prices are worth a visit. I was due for new specks and a friend had mentioned Costco has really great prices on frames, lenses, exams etc. so I decided to check it out. I ended up booking an eyeglass exam at the Oakbrook location and really wish I had come here instead. The exam was fine, but the day I was at Oakbrook at 12pm it was a ZOO. I felt really uncomfortable with how they handled social distancing during Covid; basically nonexistent. Appointments were back to back and delayed. The entire optical area and exam waiting area had way too many people standing around. This is what led me to the Bloomingdale store. I came here to select frames and noticed each entrance for the optical dept sectioned off to allow for only 3 people at a time. There were no customers when I arrived (lucky me) and a few workers were behind the counter. I was greeted right away and had the best experience with Carrie. She helped with my selection and checked my script against my old one per my request. At first glance, it didn't seem like they had a huge variety of frames, but I had no problem finding more than 3 I really liked. It was tough to narrow it down to two. Coach, Cole Haan, Guess, Vera Wang, Prada to name a few. They also have specialty lenses and the newest styles available. I was in & out in less than 30 min. and when it came to pricing, I was SHOCKED at how affordable they were compared to what I've paid in the past ($300-$700/pair for specks..yikes). Frames run from $50 up to $189 (for some designer) and lenses $60+. Eye exams start at $60 for glasses only. I didn't know these prices existed. I could finally buy a pair of glasses for under $200. I was so happy I bought 2 pairs. (they currently have $30 off second pair). Their turn around time is approx 3 days. Even though I only use my glasses in the evening, I'm in love with them. Picking them up was just as fast and easy as ordering them. Kudos to Carrie and the staff here. I can't recommend their optical dept enough. read more

I LOVE this store.. BUT, not only was this scanning your membership thing sprung on us, I guess I didn't realize how strict and serious it truly was. Auschwitz level serious. Employees are willing to yell at you and shame you and threaten you over it! I go in to pick up a pizza when a short, wide woman with a Karen haircut yells at me to stop and go to the other door immediately or else she's calling security. I show her my membership and she doesn't care. She needs me to do what she says, speaking to me NOT like a paying customer but like her incompetent boozy husband. I ignore her and she threatens me with security again. She starts saying things about me loudly to customers within earshot. You'd think she lives for Costco profits. Do not purchase tires from this Costco Tire Center. The customer service is absolutely nonexistent. I ordered 4 tires online and had them delivered to this tire center. Costco.com cancelled ONE of the tires because they were out of stock but I was able to order the fourth tire a week later. When I called the tire center to confirm that the tires were at the tire center they told me entire original order had been cancelled and they only had the 4th tire. They didn't read the order details and gave tires that I paid to someone else and claimed no responsibility for the fact that they had made a mistake. After 5 weeks of waiting I will be going somewhere else to purchase tires. read more

Once you're a member, you'll wonder what took so long to become fascinated with jumbo-sized packages of EVERYTHING, haha. Paper towel and toilet paper are the best deals; for about $17, you get premium quality mega-packs of both, but at half the cost of those overpriced brands. Costco's Kirkland brand really is amazing. Also, their snack packages are the bomb (one is always on sale) and same goes for yogurt: each individual container is HALF the price of any regular grocer! So you have to buy in bulk?- no big deal, as you're going to use it anyway, so why overpay somewhere else?! Finally, their gas station alone pays for the $60 annual fee (if you get their Citibank credit card). Gas is about $.05-.10 less per gallon than other stations and the credit card gives an extra 4% off, so that adds up FAST. read more

Really disappointed by Costco today. We have really liked coming here in general, but then we bought $50 worth of halibut today. I don't personally buy fish to cook at home, but my wife has lots of times. And this is the first time she opened it and worms started crawling out. It was disgusting and fairly scary. Googling revealed it to probably be round worm. We called customer service as soon as we realized and asked what to do. He said to take a picture, but said he wanted me to talk to returns to verify. He forwarded me to returns and they gave me the same instructions. I took a picture as well as a video with the worm moving and we drove back to Costco with our recepit. Ania K, met us at the counter, and said we should have brought the product in. That is not really my problem that their department doesn't have consistent training. Then she tried to tell us that fresh ocean fish SHOULD have those. Really impressed at the customer service at this location. I called ahead of time to see if they had a specific "hard to find" item in stock. Eddie personally did an initial check for me then said he would send someone out on the floor to do a more extensive search and call me back with information. I didn't expect a call back but, much to my surprise, Eddie reached out to follow up. Turns out that they didn't have what I was looking for, but they did have one and it sold almost instantly. A couple months ago, I caved in and let my husband to get a Costco membership. For years, I resisted because the kind of foods I eat aren't really things you can buy in bulk (fruits and veggies) and our living spaces have been so small. Without space to store the extra food or a big family or repetitive meals (heck, we even make two separate meals at the same time), I didn't see a point in going to Costco. Shopping once or twice a week to get just the next few days' essentials is the best way for me to grocery shop without wasting food or over-stuffing our cabinets. So... yeah.... a Costco membership was not an option for me. But then.... I don't know. One day, we were talking about checking out Costco and the next day, a Costco representative was at my husband's place of employment and all of a sudden we had a membership. Later that night, we came here to see what they really had to offer -- huge amounts of everything! And electronics. And basic clothing items. And toys. And so much more. They also have an eyeglasses center and a little food court (with very cheap food!) and tons of services for Costco members. You can pretty much live your entire life through Costco. My husband was in love with everything and found all he needed here. Me? I liked it, but still prefer to pick up many of my essentials elsewhere. We live between the Bloomingdale and Schaumburg Costco locations (yay, flexibility!) but we come here more. The selection seems better here -- stocked with certain beers and foods that aren't at the Schaumburg location -- and the employees are very nice. I even had three employees come together once to help me find something and several of them have remembered me later on. As everyone else has noticed, the best time to go to Costco is on a weekday afternoon or later at night after the after-work crowd has disappeared. The gas pumps are the same way -- they're crazy crowded on the weekends and during rush hour, but when you find the right time, you're in and out quick. I'm usually here at the 'right' time so I don't have to deal with the Costco craziness. While my husband benefits from Costco more than I do, it's good to know I can stock up on grains and pasta and Tazo Chai Tea concentrates and Amy's vegan soups here. And those darn peanut butter-filled pretzels that I love so much! Oh, and those boot socks I bought are very cozy. I might have to get more. So... I guess Costco ain't all that bad. This is probably one of my favorite stores to shop. They are very well organized, well staffed and clean. I have always had a great experience and not too much trouble finding anything. I love their seasonal items, such as the sea salt and chocolate covered caramels they offered this past winter. Keep an eye out for your coupon book monthly once you sign up to be a member, you can really save!! But pay attention, they sometimes will jack up a price, offer a coupon discount and you aren't really saving as much as you thought you were. They are great for alcohol, snacks, meats, bakery items, special occasion cakes, beverages, and produce. Be careful not to buy large quantities of items you are not going to use, because you will be throwing away money if you do not pay attention. Bottled water is one of my every day item's I purchase here. Stacy's pita chips, Mission tortilla strips for less than $3.50 per 3 lb. bag, vitamins and Perdue chicken breast or tenders packed in air tight 1 lb packages great to freeze, and delicious rotisserie chickens for $5. Don't forget their awesome pizzas for $10-$12 baked fresh in their snack area. They guarantee everything you buy, and will accept returns if you are not happy with an item for any reason. Similar to many members at Costco I am satisfied with their customer service. With my most recent visit at this particular location I was shockingly impress with how the manager handle my request. One year ago I purchased a Google Chromebook. Along with the product was a warranty (either one year or two). Overtime I noticed three white marks under the screen and the mouse pad not working properly. I called Costco Technical Support twice to resolve the issues. Twice I was on hold of more than 30 minutes without speaking to a representative. My mother suggested we visit Costco for assistance. After speaking with a staff member we were directed to speak with the manager Dave'yon. Even though he was very busy he was patient with listening to my problems. With my membership card he was able to find my purchase and any additional information he needed. We left the store very pleased! Thank you Dave'yon for your patience, kindness, and professionalism.
