Been here a few times and each time it's been pretty good. Their creations are tasty and well presented. Think of them as a kind of fusion Tapas place. They have interesting salad that include yam and deep fried onions. Their cold tapas is predominately raw proteins of fish and beef. My particular favourite was the beef tataki. In the hot tapas area, the corn and chicken karaage are on my personal list of favs. They also have rice dishes but the noodles are their signature items. Tsunami is a tidal wave or large tide. MeNami means little tide. Which they modelled their signature noodles - little tides of goodness. They start with their own masterful Sanuki Udon and dress it up in dozens of hot and cold dishes. My fav - the Salmon Cream Sauce Udon...so tasty but so bad for the spare tire. The dishes average around $13. If you are a big eater, bring your platinum card; especially if you like to drink too. - Beef tataki - great, the sauce was sweet and complimented well with the garnishes - Corn kaki-age - good, it's nothing too special and it's a good snack - oven baked udon - 2 large shrimps with bacon this dish was creamy, cheesy and larger than expected. It's on the heavier side and I didn't end up finishing the dish. Maybe it's a good dish to share - Thai black tea - different than regular Thai tea because they use coconut milk instead of condensed and evaporated milk. The coconut flavour is really strong so if you're not looking for a coconut drink, I advise not to order Price was pretty decent. Service was excellent, the servers were all friendly and attentive. Super convenient location for all those who live in the Yonge/Finch area. I saw some parking spots nearby but I'm sure those go quickly. We were seated inside behind the entrances to the restaurant and patio. It was quite hot yesterday (sweltering, really) so it was a bit stifling inside the restaurant with no AC and the doors wide open. Our dishes came out quickly. The fries were too crisp for me but I liked the ricotta and teriyaki sauce. The pickled onions were a good way to kind of cleanse your palate when eating the pork belly. The chicken kara-age was nicely fried and smoking hot when you bit into it and the shiso mayo was a nice accompaniment. We were pleasantly surprised with the udons. They were a lot larger than I thought that they would be. The greens in the veggie udon were somewhat overcooked but did not take away from dish overall. If there's one thing this place gets right, it's the seafood. I was most surprised by how none of the seafood I ordered was over cooked, a small feat that is unfortunately rare to see at restaurants these days. I came here on a Friday evening with a friend. The restaurant does not take reservations on the weekends but we took advantage of the waitlist function on yelp and put ourselves on the waitlist. There were not a lot of people at the restaurant when we arrived at around 5:30 so maybe it wasn't even necessary for us to put our names down on the waitlist. We were immediately seated. We started off with the Tako Wasa, which was seasoned raw octopus that you eat by putting on pieces of seafood and wrapping the seaweed over the octopus. It was amazing (but a little pricey). The octopus was seasoned just right and not chewy at all. We then had the chicken karage, which was moist and crunchy but a bit too gingery for my liking. We also had some fried ika which was fried just right, the squid was not over cooked and still tender despite being fried. Amazing. I had the creamy salmon udon and I liked how the salmon was cooked to perfection. I recently had an encounter at a supposedly upscale French restaurant where I ordered the Atlantic salmon and it was over cooked. The fact that MeNami did this so well was a very very pleasant surprise. However, I wish they had balanced the creamy udon out with some chili flakes or pepper to lighten the concoction a little. I've been to MeNami on numerous occasions and the quality of the food is consistently good. Prices are reasonable for dinner and portions are adequate. The menu has variety but it doesn't consist of too many choices that would make you indecisive. I actually prefer the appetizers over the mains. The Salmon Cream Sauce Udon was good, not too salty, but definitely heavy (as any of the cream dishes are). I also forgot I was lactose intolerant so this probably wasn't a good choice for me to begin with (my bad!) The Okonomiyaki Pancake was delicious and a larger size than I expected. I kept picking at this dish throughout the meal. It tasted good even when it was cold! I would recommend this and the Smoked Salmon Tataki for sure. The Corn Kaki-age was unique! I think I would just come here and order all appetizers! They have quite the selection for drinks and the cocktails are beautifully made. My friend and I sat at the bar on two separate occasions (I love watching people make drinks). I remember the bartender made a drink 2 or 3 times. Came here for dinner and I will say this... This place is solid. The entrance was this really big older style wooden door (I don't have much art sense, please bear with me). However, I was the noob and saw the "normal" door and tried to pull it open. Of course, being the noob the door was locked. So I went through the REAL doors... silly me. And thanks to other Yelpers, I can see what are the recommendations. On to the food: Corn kaki-age is a 5/5, should of gotten more. This reminded me of fritters with corn. Not too sweet. Must dip into the sauce. Okonomiyaki is a 3.5/5, lots of filling within the pancake. However, the sauce gotten a bit sweet? Black sesame sauce beef udon is a 3.5/5, the reason being the sauce gotten too thick. I like the udon's texture and the beef. Spicy pork udon is a 4/5, quite spicy after mixing up the sauce/soup. Atmosphere is a 5/5 for sure. I love the fact they got decent music, but not too loud and the mood is great for chat. From a guy's point of view, bring a girl will be good. Service is a 5/5 for sure. I got the potato cream curry udon this time after seeing it all over Instagram. What a visual! In this dish there is curry udon topped with a fluffy layer of potato cream sauce. It's very innovative and unique, I don't think I've seen anything similar at other restaurants. The potato cream was really light and fluffy and was not to heavy in terms of flavour. To be honest, I am not sure how I feel about this dish. That may be because while eating this dish I realized that I am not a huge fan of japanese curry. However, the flavours and ingredients did go well together rather than clash, so if you like japanese curry then give it a go! Menami also has a ton of other options for pastas/udon and tapas, so you will definitely find something that is worth trying here. read more

Actually really liked this place. But the only reason is because we had 10 people on our table. I'll tell you why you must have lots of people to come to this place. I don't believe it's a place to bring your date. All the dishes are tapas and they are meant for sharing. The portions are great! So you'll see the name lit up in glowing bulbs on the corner of the street on Yonge. If going south, it's on your right side and you can't really miss it. Walking in, you'll feel like you're in a dark room but it's actually pretty well lit. (At least my pictures turned out well haha) we first ordered the sake because there was a holiday deal where you can get an appetizer for half off. So we got the okonomiyaki for $6.50. Then we proceeded to order apps like pork cutlet and seaweed salad (must order. So fresh ! ). We then ordered a couple udons to share: potato whip (curry underneath), creamy udon (MUST HAVE; but I must earn you, you're going to have to share), salmon creamy udon, black sesame udon, and 2 cold udons which were absolutely light and easy to have. Food: - Corn kaki-age $5 (we had 2, tasty and cripsy with the mayo sauce) - Salmon Cream Sauce Udon $13 (good, filling and would recommend. Very creamy and salmon was tender) - Oven Roasted Pork Belly $11 (okay but not outstanding, not substantial so prob wouldn't recommend) Drinks - 1 Fruili beer - 2 bottles of grapefruit soju, which is surprisingly sweet and good! Never tried before and now my new fav. Service was nice, the servers checked up on us a few times, when my friend asked for hot sauce for pork belly dish they asked if the dish was not to their liking, refilled waters without asking. Attentive but not annoyingly so, didnt interrupt us while we were chatting. As the night wore on, I noticed the lights dimmed, the music got louder and it became more about the drinks. Used to come here quite often when the store first opened but stopped because the quality of the food degraded. Finally decided to give it another shot after about a year and was pleasantly surprised! My go-to dish was the salmon cream sauce udon, but this time I decided to go for something new - the tsuke udon with tempura. The noodles were a bit chewier which I heavily prefer, and the shrimp tempura was perfectly crispy but slightly on the bland side. I would recommend getting an appetizer or coming here if you want a lighter meal - the portions are pretty small and will probably not leave you full. read more

I'm here to talk about their grapefruit shochu drink, which for the life of me, I can't remember the name of. Anyways, they advertised this drink of being fresh grapefruit in an alcoholic beverage. What I didn't know was that the grapefruit was really fresh, like still in its skin fresh. They basically gave me half a grapefruit and a manual juicer and expected me to basically make my own drink. I get that this is a gimick and they're trying to make this drink into an experience, but I don't want to juice my own grapefruit. I didn't pay 8 dollars to juice my own fruit. Got the oven baked udon ($15 before tax and tip). It's a good portion for one person! The bowls are big but not a lot of noodles, so you don't need to share between two people. I'm impressed with the quality of food. The presentation looks amazing and just like the menu, the sauce isn't salty and the ingredients are fresh! The shrimp (although there's just 2), was crunchy and the udon had nice chew to it. The plates are also so unique! They have cool designs at the bottom that you can see when you finish your meal. Service is excellent! The staff are so polite and attentive. Vibes are great though the look and feel throws me off. I'm a little confused by the decor, it seems like they were going for modern with some random accents. I. love. udon. I love udon so naturally I love MeNami's selection of udon and taste as well. Environment: dimly lit, fairly small and not good for big groups. There is bar seating and table seating as well. Appetizer: I ordered the corn kaki-age which is tempura corn balls with a side of honey butter mayo. The waitress also offered to refill our mayo when she saw that we were running low which is very nice of her. The corn kaki-age is unbelievably delicious. I love corn so it's hard for me to find anything wrong with this sweet, yet savoury dish. Main Course: I ordered the Spicy Pork Udon. This dish comes with spicy pork, kimchi, onion, thinly cut seaweed, and sesame seeds. The udon was the perfect texture: it was chewy yet soft. The dish was fairly spicy for someone who can't handle spice, but I'm sure if you usually eat spicy foods, this will be nothing for you. The broth is well seasoned, not too salty, yet flavourful with a good kick to it. Conclusion: If you're an udon lover like me, you will live MeNami. MeNami is a very convenient restaurant near Finch Station to grab lunch with your friends. I typically get the oven baked udon but instead I tried the salmon cream sauce udon. I personally prefer the oven baked udon as the noodles and cheese were more rich. While the salmon was a very moist and delicious salmon, the sauce was simply cream and had no additional flavours. For $14, I would have rather gotten the oven baked udon. Unfortunately, the meal took a little longer than expected as we waited approximately 30 minutes to receive our meals. We did not come at a busy time, it was on a Sunday at 2. Personally, I would come here once to just experience the ambience. read more

MeNami has been a consistent staple in my North York to-go restaurants since I came back earlier in 2019. The service is still great and the ambiance is amazing (except for some big ass flies that seem to live there). My family ordered: 1. Corn Kaki-Age: Still my absolute fave thing to eat here. This is so crispy and delicious with the sauce. 2. Fresh Fried Okra: This was too salty for me and I didn't enjoy it as much as last time 3. Nagasaki Udon: My go-to every time. I love how peppery the soup is to give it a kick. The udon is soft and chewy (yay) but I didn't like the clams as much as before - they were stringy and I crunched into something hard when chewing. 4. Oven Baked Udon: my sister really liked this. She just said it was a little too cheesy at the end and there was only 1 shrimp for the whole dish 5. Black Sesame Puree Udon w/ Beef: My brother-in-law said the udon was good and the beef was good but the black sesame sauce was too sweet and didn't make a good impression. I heard about this place on Insider, before I was even considering coming up north to Toronto. But on the video I saw, everything looked so so good. So when the opportunity came for me to travel up here, MeNami was almost a guaranteed "need to visit" I ended up coming up on my last day. And this was the perfect place to come for my last meal in Canada. I got the Oven Baked Udon. It was really good. It was just as creamy and cheesy as in the videos. It was bacony-seafoody goodness. There was a good bit of shrimp in there, which was surprising. It was served super hot, idk why but everything tastes better when it's so hot that you almost can't eat it lol. But the flavor was really great and the dish was rich and heavy. A Lot of people might not be able to finish this. As soon as I walked in we were greeted and seated quickly. Order was taken pretty quick as well. However the food took a long time to come out. That could be because of the preparation of the dish I had. I'm not sure. I def will come back here and try other dishes in my future trips to the city.They lived up to the hype. It's ok. It's definitely not 4 stars. My bf and I got the seared tuna tataki, snack Katsu, and the oven baked udon. The protein is definitely not their forte. The tuna tasted not too fresh, and I've definitely had better Katsu before. I really did enjoy the oven baked udon, which basically tasted like mac and cheese. Now that I've tasted udon and cheese, I could just make it at home for half the price. Was recommended this spot by a friend, and looking at all the photos the udon dishes definitely look nice. Visited on a Sunday at 12:30 pm - I had made a reservation for 3 in case but it was not actually that busy during lunch hours (around half to 3/4 full our entire visit). There is paid parking along Yonge and the side streets, but I ended up parking at Finch Station (free on weekends) and walked less that 5 mins. As for food, ordered the Roasted Pork Belly to share along with an Oven Baked Udon for myself. The pork belly came with onions and vegetables, and tasted nice - not too chewy/fatty and the ending taste with the cumin was good but a bit too much in my opinion. The oven baked udon looked like a lot of cheese, but the taste was not heavy at all. Had a decent mix of shrimps, scallops (a bit chewy), and bacon. The udon noodles were a good size and tasted decent for the most part. Value wise it was not too bad - $11 for the pork belly (we split it across 3) and $14 for the udon. If anything I wish the portion was a bit bigger (afterwards I didn't feel hungry, but not particularly full either). Service was alright, although I found it weird that they had run out of the beef sashimi appetizer despite it being the lunch hour. Always wanted to try this place out and I finally got the chance last week! First off, I love the vibe here - there's something about the interior design and genuineness of the staff that makes it really home-sy and comfortable. From the second we stepped in, we were met with smiles and warm greetings up until the moment we left. My boyfriend and I ordered the oven roasted pork belly, tempura udon, and seafood yaki udon. Everything was pretty good, though I may suggest that the pork belly is a fairly expensive appetizer considering it doesn't fill you up (still yummy though with the pickled daikon and salad green pairing). The tempura udon came out fresh and the battered shrimp was nice and crisp - only criticism is that they only give 2 pieces and would be nice if the gave more. The seafood yaki udon was very generously loaded with calamari and squid tentacles (with fewer shrimp and mussels) and drenched in a delicious teriyaki-mayo sauce. This dish was my favorite.
