My friend had the seafood yaki udon which was prepared with so much flavour! The sauce was perfect proportion to the noodles. For my curry noodle I asked for an extra kick to which they did without compromising the taste of the curry! I am a huge udon lover so I was super excited to try Menami, especially after seeing all the pictures! My friend and I decided to finally give this place a try on a Sunday night at around 8 PM. We were seated promptly at the bar, which we didn't mind at all since it was just the two of us. I'd for sure keep in mind to make reservations for bigger groups. I went with the curry udon with shrimp tempura & my friend got the salmon cream sauce udon with cheese. I loved my curry udon - the right amount of sauce, noodles and tempura. Portion-wise was also perfect, I didn't feel too bloated but was still full. I wish there was something else added in there though - not SURE WHAT.. its just missing something that I think would make this dish THE bomb dot com. I love variety so just udon and tempura is a little boring for my taste buds :P Still delicious af tho. I got to try a bit of my friend's salmon cream sauce udon and WOW it was HELLA CREAMY LOL. I think it would've been a lot better if she didn't add the cheese as the sauce was heavy on its own already. Tbh its really based on personal preference at the end of the day. The salmon was very tender and helped balance out the creaminess! This is a really cute spot for hanging out and grabbing a couple of drinks. The drinks are usually made well and taste good. In terms of the food its okay. I most recently went and got the potato curry udon and it was really watery. There wasn't alot of udon noodles and the portion was pretty small for $13 (regular). I really like this place! I've been here once at night for tapas and drinks and the ambiance is completely different from the time I came for lunch. At night it was very lively and the music was very loud. They have lights going and it's almost like a bar/club atmosphere. Food was amazing. Love their chicken karage and deep fried corn. For many years I passed by this place and each time it twinkled in the corner of my eye. Its ambient lights can be seen from the outside and are hard to miss. It's big castle-like doors are even harder to open. If you can open these doors, like I did, the atmosphere feels welcoming. You will see their ambient lights look like upside down trees which makes this place feel like home. The Asian staff are effecient like most Asians I know. It wasn't long until the Udon noodles arrived. The creamy menu tastes like a combination of Udon and Alfredo sauce. It's quite interesting and offers a unique Asian fusion experience. Unlike the soup based Udon noodles which are nothing special. They say when in Rome do as the Romans do. I say when at an Asian fusion place take risks; get the creamy Udon noodles. In the end, I paid the bill which was quite over priced given the location and food quality. As I left the establishment, I told the waitress "I am Groot". (Roasted Pork Belly) Definitely the worst thing we've ordered. It was seasoned wayyyyy too much. Maybe other like it like that.. not for me. (Seafood Taki Udon) Just by looking at the photos you can kind of guess already how it might taste. I loved it. After intimidatingly opening those large doors, I realized that there was a smaller door on the side and the large doors are simply for deco.. oops! Definitely a unique spot with delicious food and drinks. I'd come back again! Everything was delicious. Went here with 2 friends one night to celebrate a belated birthday, though parking was a bit tough to find (it always is in this area) it was a great night. We tried the Salmon Cream Sauce Udon, the baked udon with shrimp, scallops and tex mex cheese, spicy pork udon, Chicken karage, and tako wasa. For drinks we tried the Thai Iced Tea and the Yuzu Mojito. The noodles all had lots of flavour and were great sizes to fill you. Be aware, the baked udon and salmon cream are extra creamy. I personally love cream sauce and it had great flavour but for you lactose intolerant people, you might want to just try it and skip eating a whole bowl. The Spicy pork udon had a nice kick to it. Appetizers were great, chicken karage was big, juicy and crispy and came with a great dipping sauce. The tako wasa had a wasabi kick to it. I'm not one to usually eat raw octopus but I tried it and I didn't mind it. The drinks were great, both distinctive flavours and tasty. The thai Iced tea was really really good and had a strong tea taste. Ambiance was a casual place with cowboy bar-like feel with an asian fusion twist. We were sat by the door which happened to be open that day. It got chilly as the night went on but we just asked the waiter to close the door and they gladly obliged. Service was good, we had no complaints. They did ask us to wrap up towards the end of our stay but we had been there for over 3 hours before they did so. Went on a Tuesday night and it was packed! My friends and I had to sit at the bar (until a table was free, but by the time it was free we were already eating so..). We were sorta squished against each other but that wasn't a tremendous problem. We got curry udon with tempura (x2), tempura udon (x1) and chicken kara-age (x1). Now, I really dislike meat that is pinkish, rubbery or chew-y and for some reason, all of the karaage I've had for awhile have been like that. But, MeNami's kara-age? Divine. The tartar sauce for it was amazing too! Moving on - the curry udons were apparently really nice and my tempura udon was amazing! The broth was especially good. However, I wish they had a udon set with just shrimp tempura (because with the tempura udon, you only get (1) shrimp tempura and (2) huge sweet potato ones). And this isn't really their fault, but I didn't take my tempura out (of my bowl) in time so they got soaked and became very mushy. Uh.. yeah let's just end it there then. Oh, but the server + bartender were super nice! I would definitely come back here for the kama udon (which was sold out that night). The pricing is decent too. I came here with two of my friends to get udon for lunch. I was a little disappointed! I ordered the Mentaiko Cream Sauce Udon ($14), and my friends ordered the Oven Baked Udon ($15) and Yaki Niku Udon ($13). I found my Mentaiko Cream Sauce Udon to be alright. Udon noodles were covered in a cream sauce and topped with mentaiko, chopped green onion, sesame seeds, and seemingly a cumin flavoured oil(?). The taste and texture of the sauce was great, just a smooth cream sauce. Noodles weren't over or under cooked. The toppings tasted great mixed in too. What I found strange was the cumin flavoured oil... I'm not even sure that was what it was. In the first couple of bites I took of my udon, I tasted cumin, and I noticed there being a couple of drops of oil on top of the cream sauce, so I figured that was what it was. While strange and unnecessary, the noodles still tasted alright. I just wasn't particularly impressed. I think this is one of the more unique/uncommon dishes here though, so I would recommend ordering it if you come here. The friend who ordered the Oven Baked Udon was okay with his meal. He described his dish as macaroni and cheese but with udon noodles. There wasn't anything especially impressive about this dish either. He found the sauce to be average, and it wasn't as cheesy as he expected it to be. Factoring in the price too, $15 seems quite pricey. The friend who ordered the Yaki Niku Udon felt her meal was unsatisfactory as well. There was very little beef compared to udon noodles. She did find the broth nicely flavoured, though. $13 was a little steep for what she got. I will say, I appreciate that MeNami has an accessible washroom in addition to typical downstairs washrooms. I've visited MeNami quite a few times now! From afternoon lunch, dinner, to late night snack. Every time I visit, there's always great service! My favourite dishes here are always going to be the Salmon Cream Sauce Udon and Ricota Fries. It's also a convenient place to access with plenty of street parking around the area. I will definitely be back over and over again! This review is based on 2 visits to MeNami. Both on a weekday Tuesday, one during the hype when you need a reservation to get in anyday and one when you can drop by as a walk in on a weekday. I like the simple menu of MeNami. An unique menu that differs from all the Izakaya/restaurant in the area.: Their star is the housemade udon. I like the freshness of non frozen udon. Yes there is a difference. A subtle different. But if one is paying the same price for a bowl of packaged/frozen udon at other restaurants, why not go for the fresh one with no preservatives? I tried the Original Kama Udon ($7.95) and Tsuke Udon with Shrimp Tempura ($10) both which I really enjoyed. I would say just skip the Tempura as the udon is really the star of the dish. For Tapas, I tried the Corn Kaki-age, Roasted Hamachi Gama, Tako-Wasa all really solid dish. For drinks I would suggest to stick with beer (they have Delirium on tap) or Sake. Their cocktails is sweet and weak. Service though was exceptional during my most recent visit. Both waiters were nice and went out of their way to make sure I have a good time. I would be back for some more fresh udon. I think this is the only restaurant that offers freshly made noodle in GTA. read more

My friend recommended I check out this place. This place is one of the few that serve cream udons so I wanted to try it out. The menu does not have the variety that other restaurants have but the selection was definitely quite unique. For the appetizer, we split the Albacore Tuna Tataki. The tuna pieces were fresh and quite chewy. The side pieces that came with the appetizer also complemented well the tuna pieces. For the cream udons, there were two options that you could choose from: salmon cream udon (which my friend got) and mentaiko cream udon (which I got). I was a bit skeptical because I never had mentaiko before and I am not a fan of cooked salmon. However, I am glad I got the mentaiko - it was smooth and melted right in your mouth. The cream complemented well with the mentaiko and there definitely was enough. My friend liked her salmon cream udon too. The service itself was amazing - the servers never forgot to check in on us and refill our water. One thing that I would recommend is to not eat cream udon when it's hot outside. There were no spots inside so we were seated outside on the patio when it was so hot that there was a heat warning. Yes, the cream udon was good but very hot and made us feel even hotter in the sweltering heat. Definitely, I feel as though I would have enjoyed it better when it was either cold outside and/or not so hot. But the weather and our choice of food were not management's fault in any way. This was one of my favourite place to eat. The menu provided a vast food selections to choose from. I was here a few weeks ago and was disappointed they didn't have the potato cream curry udon. My friends and I ordered a couple dishes to share. Their Okonomiyakki is a great dish to share. The ingredients were pretty much the same. The Ricotta Fries was probably my least favourite. Everything doesn't seems to mix in together. Besides the sauce on the fries, everything else I kind of ate separately. Since the ricotta cheese isn't melted, it kept falling off from the fries. I personally prefer the old traditional type of poutine. If you're a cheese lover, you got to try their Oven Baked Udon! It's EXTREMELY creamy and CHEESY. An awesome sharing dish! I'd die if I eat this alone. It's way too filling and heavy to consume all by myself. Mini Stone Rice taste very dry and bland to me. It was a very small dish more like a sample size. My husband loves udon everything and MeNami happens to be known for its extensive udon selections! We started off with their corn fritters with honey mayo and chicken karege. But MeNami's were meaty, juicy, yet managed to preserve the crunchy exterior! Couldn't get enough! Onto our mains! As part of their lunch special, all udon and rice dishes were served with either a side salad or soft drink. The side salad was a simple salad (some lettuce and some cherry tomatoes). Baked seafood udon - creamy, cheesy, pure indulgence (aka a definite calorie bomb lol). Chopped bacon, scallops, shrimp beautifully folded within. Although it was beyond delicious, it was a very heavy dish. Unless you don't want to save stomach to try anything else on the menu, I recommend splitting this dish. Tempera udon - served with two shrimp, one pepper, one sweet potato tempera all were perfectly battered and fried. Another solid classic dish. I've been here quite a few times and they're always very busy. Better come here on an empty stomach because everything is very filling! Every time I come here, I always have leftovers to take home. My favourites are the salmon cream udon and the oven baked udon. It's super creamy and cheesy. For appetizers, I really enjoyed the crispy king prawn, albacore tuna tataki, beef tataki, beef sashimi, spicy salmon tartare, and ricota fries. I've also tried the tako wasa, fresh fried okra, chicken karage, mentaiko cream sauce udon and the black sesame puree udon w/ beef which were just okay. The black sesame one was kinda weird in my opinion, since it reminds me of asian desserts. The chicken karage wasn't bad, but guu/kinka izakaya does it sooooo much better. The ambience here is pretty nice, it's filled with a bunch of young adults grabbing drinks and socializing or digging into the delicious udon and tapas dishes. It is definitely a place to try if you love pasta and noodles, especially cream sauces such as Alfredo. BEST DISHES: Mentaiko and/or Salmon Cream Sauce Udon (pretty much the same), Crispy King Prawns and Spicy Salmon Tartare. The udon compared to the other "thick sauced" dishes is lighter and is very creamy with good flavour. The prawns were delicious and not over cooked which is a big thumbs up! Last but not least, the tartare is just a nice starter while waiting for the main dishes. The Oven Baker Cheese Udon was a little bit heavy, especially when it starts to cool down because it thickens, but still good. It may be best to get it to share with others. Heard about this place through a friend and who told me it was opened by the same owner of Han ba tang. The restaurant had good service with some of the same staff that used to be at hbt, including the chef would did come over and chat with us about his inspiration behind the menu. The food included a mix of udons, dons and izakaya type dishes. We tried the black sesame udon, sukiyaki, pork belly, okra and a few other tapa dishes. Everything tasted great and I wasn't disappointed. I would specifically visit again to try the rest of the udon dishes as I thought they were really unique. They also had a good drinks menu which I didn't get to try but my friends enjoyed. I think like most people i came out of curiosity from a blogto video because cheESE?? with UDON??? I didnt try that dish because it has shrimp and i don't eat any seafood whatsoever but I had the potato cream curry udon (i think thats what its called??). It was good... but it was kinda plain. The curry was that japanese curry taste which I love but the only thing other than the potato cream, curry, and udon were a couple small pieces of broccoli and i wish there was more (consider carrots and peas too?). So like, it was good but its just over hyped OR it has lots of room to make it more memorable. Venue: its kind of a bar, so it looks like a bar. Nothing fancy shmancy and i came early after opening so it was clean when i was there. Service: Server was kind and friendly and checked in every now and then so its quite standard and satisfactory. Food came at a reasonable time too. So yeah its okay, give it a try if you want but i dont think its the game changing udon dish like the blogto video made it out to be. read more

This restaurant has been on my list to check out and I finally had the chance to visit on a Sunday afternoon. MeNami has a rustic feel to it - loved the cute furniture and decor! We ordered the tapas tonkatsu as an appetizer and for our mains we opted for the salmon cream sauce udon and the spicy tsuke udon with shrimp tempura. Personally, would not order the tonkatsu again as I found it quite dry but the udons were delicious - the noodles were bouncy. The spicy tsuke udon was so refreshing on a hot summer day - perfect way to satisfy your udon cravings without getting the broth. Service was also excellent - water was always filled to the rim!
