The location off Gessener and Westheimer was closed and our Dr. is at this location now, so I made an appointment online for what looked like the last Saturday appointment the Dr. was offerring. A few days later, found out my cousin was having a day party nearby but around the same time. Decided to reschedule the appointment for an earlier time but there were no more Saturday appointments available. I called the office to make sure this was the case, which it was, so informed the host that we would be running late. First off, there is no signage off Westheimer to let you know this location is here. I ride across the entire shopping center to get to it. The parking is tight and very sparse. Don't let anyone double park and take up precious space. The inside is very tiny. Not much of a waiting room at all, so if you're taking someone here and waiting for them, you might as well go somewhere else because its limited. I however, was working remotely, so I didn't have time to travel somewhere else to setup my station but in hindsight, I think I should have because there was no WiFi available so setting up my hotspot to work and making space on the available table to work was probably the same amount of time to go somewhere else. Although they finished examinng my Mom in record time, I really think they were rushing to leave because how you going to dilate someone and forget to give them the glasses??? I think my Mom was taken by surprise from them telling her she hadn't met her deductible and would be paying more to go through her insurance but still I think they rushed us out the door. The keys were even in the door as we left but maybe that was because I still was working about 10 minutes after they closed out her payment. I had work to do, so go disinfect rooms before you close, but while I was working, I noticed the nauseting smell of disinfectant fumigating a room. If that's the only disinfecting you're doing, we're in trouble. This Dr. my Mom went to was mine as well, but Ive been feeling like she may be leaving soon or the company is changing that is reducing her hours, so I'll be looking for a new Optician this summer. Memorial Eye is expensive and just not what they use to be, which was friendly and cost effecient a decade ago when I found them. I can pay less and go down the street near my home and probably get the same service. read more

I've been a patient at this location for years. Even after I moved and it became less convenient, I eventually returned to the Wilcrest office because the staff and doctors had always been professional and efficient. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was a completely different experience. In the past, wait times were minimal. This time, I waited over 30 minutes in an extremely cold exam room. The temperature was unbearable, it felt like a refrigerator. I had a sweater on and was still uncomfortable. Later, the doctor mentioned that the AC was broken and moved us to a different room with a space heater. If the AC issue was known, patients should not have been left sitting in those conditions for that long. The doctor I saw was new to me, and the interaction was disappointing. During the vision test, when asked which image was clearer, I explained that both appeared blurry and I couldn't see the letter well enough to determine which was better. Instead of working with that feedback, she repeatedly insisted I choose one based on brightness. Since neither looked clearer, I eventually gave a random answer just to move forward. It did not feel like my input was being heard or taken seriously. That was how the whole exam went. When I asked questions, they were brushed aside. The overall tone felt dismissive and condescending, which made me uncomfortable. As a result, I did not feel confident filling my prescription there. I have valued this location for years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Based on this visit, I will not be returning. read more

I had a less than stellar experience at this location. I was less than 10 minutes late to the appointment, which was completely my fault, but I called ahead of time to let them know that I would be late. I'm grateful they did not reschedule me, but that was one of the few bright spot from my appointment. The technician working the front desk was maybe the rudest person I have ever met. As soon as I walked through the front door, she passsively-aggressively informed me that guests are given a 10-minute grace period if they're late to their appointment. Thanks for the information; I was still within that 10-minute window, so I'm not sure why she felt the need to convey this to me. And as much as she complained about my tardiness, I was in the waiting room for well over 30 minutes before I went through the initial screenings. So I doubt I impacted their tight schedule. Unfortunately for me, that same technician would be performing these tests. I have never had such an unpleasant experience as the retinal imaging test. I had a hard time keeping my eyes open for the bright flash, so instead of waiting for me to get in the proper position and guide me, her approach was to yell at me for not keeping my eyes open and continuing to blind me with the camera without any warning. That was a stressful and pretty awful experience. If the owner of this business reads this review, I really hope they fire that technician. She is rude, condescending, and has zero customer service skills. After that, I waited at least another 30 minutes before my optometrist examined me. Dr. Kong was very nice and thorough, so I appreciate her care. However, that technician and the wait time alone are the causes of this one star review. read more

Timing is terrible. Had an appt for 4:15pm, left work early to make sure I'd get here on time. Just for them to be running over an hour behind. Rescheduled for the following morning for the first appointment of the day, 9am. They didn't open until 9. Literally not unlocking the door until 9. How are you going to have opening duties done by the time my appointment starts if no one gets there until 9? My appointment itself took an hour. Entirely too long. Then they skip patients on the sign in sheet. And started taking 10:30 am patients before their 9:15am patients. Unacceptable. People's entire days are not done around their appointments. They same way you'll tell a person they're late for they're appointment. Yall need to be on time and fair and take people as they are showing up signing in. Nothing else is acceptable. Office was clean. Attitudes were decent from personnel. Professionalism is at a 0. Update.... It's just about 12pm. And we are still here. Unacceptable. Unsatisfactory. Employ more people. read more

If my Memorial serves me correctly, Eye Care about a lot of things. This is one of the better optometrists in Houston, and believe me we've tried a lot because Barbi has a lot of eye problems, and it's hard when we don't have any kind of insurance or coverage. I had an amazing experience with Sandra Bui at Memorial Eye Center - Wilcrest. I woke up on a Saturday with pain, blurry vision, redness, and light sensitivity in my left eye. I was concerned that nothing would be open, but found this place on Google. I called and asked if they take walk-ins. The person on the phone was very accommodating and got me an appointment within the hour. I had little to no wait and was greeted by Dr. Bui. She could tell me exactly what was wrong and how I could fix it. She was so kind and explained everything thoroughly. I appreciated how she explained everything to my family members and included them in the discussions. Dr. Bui even followed up on Monday to make sure I was doing better with a personal phone call. This was an easy and great experience for a not-so-fun situation. I highly recommend her. read more

I really miss going here for my vision exam and being seen by Dr. Enciso. If I hadn't moved to Missouri for work, I would have definitely continued to come here. I was reminded of their great customer service yesterday when I called to request my medical history. I've always had my contacts covered as medically necessary due to my diagnoses. However, my new optometrist office is claiming I'm not eligible. It made no sense to me since neither my insurance/prescription had changed since I've been eligible. I explained the situation to Memorial Eye's office manager, and not only did he email me my medical records, he also contacted my new office to get a fax number to send my records over, and ask them why they were refusing to bill my contacts as medically necessary. This office always treats their patients with respect, and I'm really grateful that the staff go out of their way to make sure I get the best care, even when I'm no longer their patient. If I ever move back to Houston, there's no question on where I'd go for my eye exams! read more

I've been going to this establishment for at least 10 years, and for the last maybe 5, it's changed. I walked in today and was greeted with negative energy. Thank goodness I did see a familiar face. Long story short, I knew my Eyewear would be expensive because of health issues, and normally, I am able to put half or more down and pay the remaining when I pick up my glasses. I was told this was no longer an option, but a managers approval would be possible. After being a customer for almost 10 years, I received a no, which was no surprise. What I can say is that this establishment has lost me as a customer, and I will be taking my business elsewhere. It wasn't the fact I didn't have the money it was the fact I wasn't notified as a customer of changes that impacted me. If they no longer accepted my insurance, I would have been notified, but changes in your policy after my eye exam was complete, frames chosen, then a bomb shell. Anyway very helpful staff at picking out frames and the best was glasses came in a week before. Plus it was Saturday we went to pick it up and they just locked the door. I use to come here some years ago, but stopped for about 4 years....my how things can change! My eye exam was on March 10, 2017 and I decided to go back to contacts, so they were suppose to order a trial pair and my order. A week later they called to tell me they were there, but somebody didn't order the trial pair so I had to wait another week. When they came in, I could tell immediately that they weren't going to work, so they had me come back the following week to try them on in front of them, which makes no sense. So, they ordered me a different brand this time so that was another week, oh and let me mention it's ALWAYS an extremely long wait every single time you go in...and when those came in they didn't fit either, so I had to go back again for them to see me with them in my eyes. Mind you, at this point it's been a month of waiting and going back and forth there. So the last time I went, I told the doctor I wanted to try on all the brands they had at one time so I could get this over with. He obliged and so I had to wait another week...never got that phone call they were in... So I decided I had enough and went back today for a refund and my prescription. Well, they refused to give me the contact prescription because he didn't see me in the new pair, but mind you, he saw me in a pair that just wasn't my prescription. Even trying to get my refund was an ordeal. I would most certainly not recommend this place or ever go back. read more

The eye doctors at the Wilcrest location are at the top notch. Their front office staff leaves alot to be desired. Rude and lack customer service skills. Not to mention unaccepting of their errors. If your package is not complete it would only make sense and common courtesy to advise of it before you go there to pick up your purchase and since it was their error and not the customer the best resolve would be to mail you the less than a few ounces to mail and not charge the customer $25.00 to mail to you. Since it was THIER error. I will never go back to this location and I will advise any of my fellow associates to never go there as I know many. read more

Doctors are good but front desk gauntlet to get to see one or after seeing one can seem like an insurmountable roadblock. The good news if you have enough patience and can schedule an appointment or place an order for contacts or glasses is that you will feel like you really accomplished something like a marathon! I needed to order some contacts but didn't have my prescription. I must have lost it when we moved from Chicago. This place is super close to my place and it looked nice so I figured I would give them a try. I actually went to another eye place in the same complex but the girl that I spoke with was really rude. I walked in the office and was immediately greeted by a staff person from the desk. I let them know my situation and they asked/suggested I call the office directly so that we didn't have to fill out paperwork to release my info. She also said it would be faster if I called myself. They were helpful in getting my prescription from my previous doctor. She explained everything to me and was really nice about it. The other place was rude and didn't tell me why I had to call the doctor myself. I let them know that I was going to be in need of an eye doctor later this year so she had me fill out some paperwork to start a file. Since the other office didn't send my information right away she said she would call me and let me know when they got it so I didn't have to wait around there. I got a call about an hour or two and we had a little hiccup but we got it all worked out. They ordered my contacts and said I could pay for them when I picked them up. It was about 3 business days and I got a call saying my contacts were ready for pick up. I went in and again everyone was really nice. I'm looking forward to my eye appointment later this year and hope the doctors are as nice and through as the staff. read more

The staff is super friendly, but their products are not up to par. I've been wearing glasses for 12 years and I have NEVER had glasses fall apart as quickly as these have. I've bought 2 regular glasses and 2 prescription sunglasses in the past 2.5 years and every single pair has fallen apart. Literally. One pair actually fell apart, then a week after I took it to them to get fixed, then a week after I took it BACK to get fixed. They refused to pay for a new pair. It's not like I put my glasses through the washer and dryer every night. Anyway, staff is awesome, it's beautiful inside, but their glasses are crap. read more

I had a 4:45 appointment here today and of course this Houston traffic refused to let me be great! Nonetheless, I was 20 min late and rushed inside, fully expecting to be met with these faces . Instead, I was met with warm greetings and friendly smiles, in addition to genuine remarks of my tardiness being okay. I was more worried about it than they were. There were two ladies working the front that were extremely nice and friendly when I entered. Rosalina, the assistant that prepped me for my doctor, was very nice and accommodating from start to finish! Dr. Jena Nguyen was very thorough with my eye exam, answering all of my questions and offering suggestions on products to use for my vision. I didn't get the impression that my tardiness bothered her either...clearly I have baggage issues. Dr. Tavares is an awesome Dr, BUT the front office staff....Geeze...are rude. I arrived early and was not greeted right away-instead I greeted the front desk associate, whom dryly replied with a hello. Btw they did not seem busy. Anyways, I brushed it off and told myself maybe she's just having a bad day. *shrugs* I came in for the usual eye exam, however my eyes were not in good health to be prescribing contacts or glasses so Dr. Tavares had me schedule a f/u after giving me these eyedrops for my eyes. Which I didn't mind at all because it was my fault for not caring more for my eyes. Unfortunately, I ended up canceling my f/u because I was ill. When I called back to reschedule-again no friendliness tone or anything- she advised that there wasn't any appts available and didn't do anything to assist me with another date so I just told her "Nevermind, I'll just call back." I went in on Tuesday 8/23/2016 as a walk-in. Needed new contacts,eye exam and glasses. Was able to get all three that same day. Price for everything was reasonable. The staff and doc. were great. I have no problems w/ them unlike everyone who posted 1-2 star reviews. oh well. read more

I've called twice in the last two days. Each day I spoke with someone. I was told they only accept traditional medicaid in which I have. I let them know that I received their info directly from my insurance site. Each day I was told that they would verify and call back. Each day no one called back. Each day I called back. The first day I called back I was told they couldn't find my insurance under the plan. OKAY COOL ( insurance was not actually active until next day, my fault), but no one bothered to call and tell me. The next day after I called and scheduled two appts, and was told I would receive a call back and I didn't, i called back and was told they didn't accept my insurance AT ALL, and then told they do but they have no way to basically check my insurance because of there system and that I could try another location. It seems like the workers need to be trained a bit more on changes that are made in office and what you offer. I wasted alot of time calling, scheduling, and waiting when the FIRST person I talked to should have been able to relay that you guys ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT MY INSURANCE AT THIS TIME. IT WAS NO NEED TO CHECK EITHER DAY BECAUSE YOUR SYSTEM WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO VERIFY MY INSURANCE. Lastly, follow through if you tell someone you will call them back. They would have notified us or should not have given us the appointment. They even not felt sorry about it. Disgusting and horrible experience.
