This is a really cute shop, I've brought in some leather Boulet's before to get rubber soles and they did a fantastic job. No issues - The receptionist is so lovely, I adore her. However - I did bring some Maison Margiela tabi ballerinas and tabi loafer mules in and I can't say that the workmanship was just as phenomenal. They were fairly new shoes -- only worn a few times prior to bringing in. Some of the leather towards the bottom of the shoe where it meets the sole had been rubbed/sanded off (painful) I had to cut a piece to smooth it out. The rubber sole was cut unevenly and black marks inside the shoes. Overall, a very sloppy job on these IMO. Heartbroken. If you care about your designer shoes maybe reconsider.

It was my first time trying this place and I haven't been to a shoe repair shop for years. I was told when I picked up my pair of Gucci shoes that I was under charged for the kind of repair that was needed. Both attendants were pleasant and professional. I was happy with the service. Please was very organizing clean. I definitely will continue to support this local business..

Brought in my birks to get resolved. Greg, who's been a cobbler for more than 40 years, did a great job to not just resole (opted for vibram) but also reseal the cork and clean the suede leather. Feels great and better than new!

Great job sealing the bottom of my Christian Louboutins with sturdy material from Italia so they don't scuff!

Great business with lovely owners, a truly talented cobbler! I have had my Christian Louboutins and their red bottoms sealed every near pair I get so they don't scuff, unfortunately the prior cobbler I went to in SF has closed down business. I brought a new pair of Louboutins & a pair of Jimmy Choos in to get their bottoms sealed. 100/10 job, excellent work and my red bottoms look amazing! I will be coming here for all my future designer shoe and bag repairs/ when I buy more red bottoms to have sealed this is the place to go! He buys the material from Italia, the same red material but stronger so that it doesn't scuff the bottoms. The prices are fantastic, I'm so glad I stumbled upon this hidden gem!

After trying to find a nearby cobbler to fix my red bottoms I am super happy I found Mel's! I came by on a Saturday and dropped them off easily. I mentioned I needed my heel stems replaced due to wear down. You could hear me walking from a mile away from the metal part clanking on the ground. I dropped off my heels and was given a tag. Mel's was so accommodating and easy to work with. They really cater to their customers. He asked when I needed them and he would have it done. Since I was in the area I called just to see if my heels were ready and they were a day early! Woo! Parking can be tough since there's tons of shops and eateries. Pricing is affordable and they do an awesome job. I tried to fix them myself using YouTube and totally failed. Don't be a hero and let the professionals do it.

Great job on getting my house running again. A bit steep on price but I just can't put a price on comfortable shoes.

Excellent service. Greg fixed my backpack while I waited and it only took a few minutes. It cost a very reasonable $10.

Greg was able to glue the lining back on my purse after it had come apart due to wear and tear. He was so sweet and helpful. Thank you!

I have been Willy's customer working on my shoes and bags for years when they were in Hayward, and now they are right on Hesperian and I couldn't be happier. I've had heels redone, shoe scratches fixed, bag straps cleaned up and repaired. Dee has done alterations and resewn a few blouses and a heavy sherpa winter coat for me and I would never go anywhere else to care for my leather goods and alterations. Thank you and lots of love to Willy, Joy, and Dee.

A Once-Exceptional Shoe Repair Shop -- Completely Unacceptable Workmanship Under New Ownership…read more I was a loyal customer of this shop for years under its previous owner, whose craftsmanship was exceptional. My shoes always came back beautifully restored, with their original quality and integrity preserved. I was saddened to learn of his passing when I recently returned, but trusted that the same standards would continue under new ownership. I could not have been more wrong. I entrusted the new owner with four pairs of expensive shoes and was required to pay nearly $300 upfront, before any work was performed. Based on my previous experiences, I had no reason to question it. Unfortunately, that trust was entirely misplaced. My shoes were ready several days later than promised, and the workmanship was appalling. Without any discussion or disclosure about materials, my shoes were returned with cheap, plastic-like material glued onto the soles. They now look cheap, feel cheap, and even sound cheap when walking. The finishing is sloppy, with uneven edges and visibly poor workmanship. Worse yet, the shoes are now slippery to walk in and do not feel safe. What should have been a routine professional repair has left me with footwear I no longer feel comfortable wearing. This goes well beyond an aesthetic complaint. I entrusted a professional to maintain my shoes, not to return them in a condition that makes me concerned about slipping or falling. The heel repairs are particularly egregious. Rather than properly fitting replacement heel tips, he appears to have shaved down the original heel material to accommodate ill-fitting replacements. The results include rough edges, uneven transitions, and visibly crude finishing. I cannot understand how this was considered acceptable work to return to a customer. Even more upsetting is the condition of the original designer emblems. Every shoe was brought in with its original emblems completely intact and matching. They were returned with mismatched plaques and missing decorative inserts. These are not insignificant details. They are part of the shoes' original design, and I trusted a professional to preserve them. These were expensive, well-made shoes brought in for maintenance, not to have their original detailing compromised and their appearance diminished. And because payment was collected upfront, I had no opportunity to inspect the finished work before paying nearly $300. Had I seen the results first, I would not have paid even five dollars for this workmanship. The missed completion date only adds insult to injury. After waiting several days beyond the promised date, I would have expected careful, meticulous work. Instead, I am now faced with the inconvenience and additional expense of taking these shoes to another professional to correct the repairs and determine whether they can be properly restored. What makes this especially disappointing is the legacy of the previous owner. He was a true craftsman who earned his customers' trust through years of exceptional work. It is genuinely sad to see that reputation associated with such a dramatic decline in quality. I am a firm believer in supporting small businesses, particularly those built on genuine skill, craftsmanship, and pride in their work. I understand how much independent businesses depend on the loyalty of their customers, and I make a conscious effort to support them. But that loyalty should never come at the expense of quality, professionalism, or basic safety. Supporting a small business does not mean accepting substandard work, especially when valuable possessions are entrusted to its care. Nearly $300 paid upfront. Four pairs of expensive shoes. A missed deadline. Cheap-looking materials. Poorly fitted heel tips. Original designer emblems returned incomplete or mismatched. Shoes that now feel unsafe to walk in. And the prospect of paying someone else to undo the damage. My advice is simple: Avoid this place at all costs. Whether your shoes are expensive designer pieces or everyday favorites, they deserve to be treated with care and respect. Based on my experience, I would not trust this establishment with either. The name may be the same, but the craftsmanship certainly isn't. I will never return, and I deeply regret trusting the new ownership with my shoes.

I first reached out to Rick on Yelp and he actually responded even though the shop was closed and it was his day off. He told me to stop by for a quote, and when I came in he took the time to look over everything carefully and explain my options. My Honda S2000 convertible top is shrinking and the rear glass had fallen off, which is not an easy job. Rick offered to glue the glass back in at a very fair price, but he was very honest and said he couldn't guarantee it would hold because the top is shrinking. What really impressed me was that he said if the glue repair doesn't work, he would credit the cost of that repair toward a full top replacement. That level of honesty and fairness is hard to find. He also looked at my seats and told me that if I bring in seat covers, he can wrap them for me, and he gave me a fantastic quote for that work as well. Rick was extremely patient and let me ask a ton of questions without ever making me feel rushed. You can tell he really knows his craft and cares about doing things the right way. I also saw some of the other cars he was working on and the quality of his work looked excellent. He is busy (for good reason), but he was still able to fit me into his schedule about two weeks out. I'm really excited to have him work on my S2000 and get the car looking brand new again. It's not easy to find honest shops anymore, but Rick is definitely one of the good ones.

Lucky for us because 15 years ago he was 1-1/2 times more expensive than what we paid recently at a different shop for better quality material and similar craftsmanship. We found Tri-Valley Upholstery (TVU) in Pleasanton after searching and doing some research. My wife reached out via e-mail to inquire about the work we needed and later followed up with pictures. Tri-Valley gave us an estimate and we scheduled an appointment to bring in one chair for evaluation and finalized specifics. We met with Eduardo who was very helpful, energic and enthusiastic. We picked out the material, received a sample, approved the material and scheduled the project. TVU did a beautiful job on reupholstering 6 chairs with a really nice piece of leather. Seats are taunt, tucked perfectly around the chair backs and the bead is spot on. There was a real minor tweak on 3 chairs that TVU took care of quickly. Dropped the chairs off and the next morning they were completed. Eduardo and his team are talented, very responsive, knowledgeable and produce quality work to make customers happy. If you need something reupholstered, give Tri-Valley Upholstery a try. You won't be disappointed and they are priced well.

I take great pride in caring for my shoes and have spent thousands of dollars with Nick over the years on maintenance and repairs for both my shoes and those of my family. Unfortunately, my experience with the business changed dramatically. On one occasion, I stopped by simply to have a pair of shoes shined. Nick was not there, and his assistant was handling the shop. For the first five minutes, he was occupied with a personal phone conversation in Spanish and made no effort to acknowledge me. When he finally did, I asked whether he could shine my shoes and have them ready within 90 minutes, as I had a flight to catch. He immediately told me he was too busy and could not make time for them. I explained that I had been a loyal customer for many years and politely asked whether he could accommodate me. Rather than simply saying no, he became confrontational, started yelling, and used vulgar and inappropriate language toward me. At that point, I left. A few weeks later, I returned hoping to speak with Nick directly and resolve the situation. Unfortunately, that conversation was even more disappointing. Rather than listening to what had happened, he was dismissive and proceeded to lecture me about how I needed to listen to him--ironically, while making no effort to hear my side of the story. Being the only game in town does not give a business license to treat its customers with arrogance or contempt. Customer loyalty should mean something, particularly when someone has supported a business for more than a decade and spent thousands of dollars there. The workmanship may be perfectly adequate, but good craftsmanship does not compensate for a complete lack of courtesy, professionalism, or appreciation for long-standing customers. If you have no alternative and are desperate, perhaps you will tolerate the experience. Otherwise, I would take my business elsewhere.
