I first reached out to Rick on Yelp and he actually responded even though the shop was closed and it was his day off. He told me to stop by for a quote, and when I came in he took the time to look over everything carefully and explain my options. My Honda S2000 convertible top is shrinking and the rear glass had fallen off, which is not an easy job. Rick offered to glue the glass back in at a very fair price, but he was very honest and said he couldn't guarantee it would hold because the top is shrinking. What really impressed me was that he said if the glue repair doesn't work, he would credit the cost of that repair toward a full top replacement. That level of honesty and fairness is hard to find. He also looked at my seats and told me that if I bring in seat covers, he can wrap them for me, and he gave me a fantastic quote for that work as well. Rick was extremely patient and let me ask a ton of questions without ever making me feel rushed. You can tell he really knows his craft and cares about doing things the right way. I also saw some of the other cars he was working on and the quality of his work looked excellent. He is busy (for good reason), but he was still able to fit me into his schedule about two weeks out. I put custom seat covers on my car once. It was the worst day(s) of my life and I'm convinced it single-handedly gave me carpal tunnel. And I'm a hand doctor so you can trust me. Rick gave me a good price and put them on in a few hours at his shop. Nice guy. Apparently he drives race cars too which is pretty neat. Seat covers are a get-what-you-pay-for item. (Zero stars if I could) After speaking with Rick, he assured me he could handle my boat seat upholstery. He even pulled out what he claimed was marine-grade material to color match. The seats came out looking good and the color match was close enough. Unfortunately, just over a year later, the material started splitting and cracking badly. I contacted Rick and sent photos, and he asked me to bring the seats in so he could take a look. Before doing that, I went to several other upholstery shops for a second opinion. Every one of them said the same thing: the material had clearly failed, and the shop that did the work should stand behind it and redo the job at no cost. When I brought the seats back, Rick told me he didn't know what material to use and suggested that I find and buy the material myself, and he'd redo the work. I did some research and found a reputable supplier, Keyston Brothers in San Francisco, who even offered to send him free color samples and could provide the proper marine-grade material at a great price. After I shared that with Rick, his tone completely changed. He said it wasn't his fault and refused to redo the job unless I paid full price again. I even told him I was willing to split or share in the cost of the redo just to get it done right, but Rick said he wasn't going to "eat" any of the cost. That told me everything I needed to know about how he stands behind his work. I've attached a photo showing the results. The material that's splitting is what Rick's shop used, while the other sections in the picture are my original material from over 30 years ago, still in great shape. That says everything you need to know about the quality and integrity of the work. It really looks like he used old stock just to increase his profit margin. If you're considering this shop, save yourself the frustration. You'd be better off throwing your money away; at least then you'd know what to expect. There are many other upholstery shops out there that actually stand behind their work and care about their customers. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. read more

I would like to praise Rick for being an absolute wonderful man. Very responsive, found him on yelp through asking quotes for the carpet replacement. My husband and I had brought our Lexus SUV to have our carpet replaced and he did fantastic job and for a reasonable price. I brought in the car on a Wednesday and by Friday it was finished and he works alone in the shop. I noticed as I was driving home that the airbag and SRS was lit up on the dashboard so I called him back and since he was already closed told me to come back on Monday and he will take a look at it. I came back Monday, he looked at it but it still wouldn't turn off and said he'll call the dealership to see if it needed to be reset there and will let me know. He eventually sends my husband the following day to take our car to his friends shop to have it reset for free and he even gave my husband money to pay for the Uber he took there to the shop to pick up our car. If you need Upholstery and Convertible top done. This is the place to take it. Brought My Convertible Mustang Cobra here just today and I am very happy with the service. It's a minor fix. He applied adhesive on back window to convertible top that leaks a little water when it rains. Rick was very honest about it. My car is a 99, so he gave me a year warranty on his work. If it's still leaks then he recommended a new back window. Which make sense to me because anything that gets old certainly gets worn out. 5 star! Awesome and honest. Thanks Rick. read more

Rick's place is by far the best shop in the Bay. Excellent customer service, very communicative with what to expect, how long it will take, care instructions, etc. I priced a new top for my 91 Camaro at close to 12 different shops, and he was on average $500 less than all the rest!! Besides cost, he's actually honest, was willing to work with my schedule, and provided excellent quality. The top looks fantastic. I must begin by saying it hurts to give Rick less than 5 stars. He is professional and polite, his price was fair, he completed the work in a timely manner, and I'm very pleased with the quality of work. I even chatted with Rick when picking up my car, and he seems a genuinely nice guy. The reason I'm rating 4 stars rather than 5, is because he left a grease smudge on my light colored sliding panel beneath the sunroof. No problem, I thought, I'll just clean that up when I get home. I generously sprayed the area with a car shampoo diluted with water, and gently wiped it with a microfiber towel in two directions, and all the grease was gone - great! Just let that dry, and it will be as good as new. Well, this morning, apparently the water affected the foam beneath the fabric, as now there is a slight indention around the area I sprayed/wiped, creating a shadow around the perimeter, that looks as bad as the initial grease! It would have been very easy to NOT touch light colored fabric with greasy hands, especially when the panel in question has a plastic handle. Additionally, there are just too many greasy hand/finger prints all over the car, both on the paint, and windows. He could have taken a bit more care with a customer's car. I'm a professional-quality auto detailer, and this car just turned 17 years this week (Jan '95), and is exceptionally clean. This is the first time the sliding panel beneath the sunroof has ever been soiled. Still, I'm a fan, and would return, and would recommend his business - I just can't give 5 stars. read more
