Actually;y, Larry advised me against replacing my fabric upholstery, he said I could probably get it cleaned...it was stained very badly, with paraffin was and other stains of undetermined origin (I just bought the Truck, a Toyota Tacoma, regular cab, 4 cylinder, 5 speed standard transmission). He suggested that I go see Bob at San Leandro Car Wash at 550 MacArthur Blvd. Long story short, Bob did an outstanding job bringing the interior back to showroom condition. So you know when you go to a restaurant and order a meal and the owner brings out a special dish for you and it makes you feel special? Well, getting work done with Larry is a similar experience. I needed to get my bimini top done on my boat. I called several different shops in the area and everyone told me that I could not patch it but needed to put a new one on. I took it to another shop and the guy told me that he could fix it but without zippers. (And his price was higher than at San Leandro Auto Upholstery's shop). Anyway, I picked up my bimini top today. It is like new - new snaps, new window, reinforced corners, the whole 9 yards. I had taken it in to be patched and it came back with so much more!!! If you need upholstery work done, save your time calling around to other shops, save your money by getting the job done by Larry, and save stress knowing it will be a job well done. I met and worked with Larry a few years ago. He helped with the interior of my car, reupholstering the rear seat, installing carpet and installing new front seats. I was disappointed with the service because the car sat for over a year on his lot. I called and get status updates, but was always 'promised' it would be finished soon. In the time it was at his shop, he managed to lose an interior panel (hard to find, and expensive) and because the car sat for a year, the engine needed attention afterwards. What I expected to take about a month, sidetracked my project for a year. He did state he'd take it back in to finish the work, but I'm reluctant to leave the car, fearing he'll keep it for another year. Excellent, prompt service! Took my Suzuki to Larry to fix a rear seat that would no longer recline. Larry looked at it immediately, disassembled the seat mount and had it working again in a half hour. Just want to say this would've been a 5 Star review. As mentioned In prior reviews Larry is a committed artist to this craft. He's also very colorful and a great chat if you have the time. He is meticulous in his work and takes the time to explain what he's planning on doing and gives you options if there are multiple ways to complete a project. He was referred by a fellow bmw owner and he worked on my e34 M5 door panels that are notorious for delaminating due to age. We went for oem look and it's hard to tell which material is new and which was original. The quality was spot on! Now I deducted a star because the work took probably close to 9 months compared to the original quoted 1.5 month. As a one man shop I can see how it's hard to manage the projects but his workmanship and personality will keep him in business. I would go back but with projects that I'm in no rush to get back... I see all these reviews of Larry doing such a "great job" on other vehicles, but he didn't do that great on my 86 Mustang convertible top. I approached Larry, brought him my new top kit so he could make sure everything he needed was there. Then we talked about scheduling, I told him how important it was that I have it back after the weekend (he told me it would take only 2 days) so I could go to an event on Dec 31 (2014). Then we talked about price. Larry took over a week to return my car, so I missed my event. Thanks, Larry. When he returned my car, he told me that the wrinkles in the back would go away after a couple of days, and if not to bring it back. Well, the wrinkles did not go away and I did take it back. I went back after 3-4 weeks. Larry said he'd need the car for a week because he was busy, to fix the wrinkles. But, he had my car for almost a month. And, I still have wrinkles. Just 2 weeks ago I took to another shop to see if they could get the wrinkles out. They said it had been too long, most likely won't come out. And, turns out Larry did not install a couple of needed pads either. Cost me another $350 to get SOME of the wrinkles out that Larry left (two times). I'm really bitter about this, spent a total of $1400 for the top and the install overall, and it's not perfect. I should have gone somewhere else....anywhere else. And to see everyone here with such great work really makes me feel that much worse. Screw Larry. He didn't keep his word on schedule, or the finished product. He talked about this and that, but he didn't do anything he promised. I asked if he would paint the back railing, and he did a really poor job on that too. Screw Larry. read more

Larry is the man! I brought in my 1991 Volvo 940 Turbo Wagon because the headliner was falling down and droopy. Orange foam was starting to get everywhere and I needed to do something. I use the vehicle to transport dogs for my business. Larry gave me a few options: 1)Replace headliner with a sturdier rubber material that would have been about half the cost of replacing the headliner to stock. 2)Replace the headliner to stock. 3)Remove headliner and leave it out permanently. I use the car for dogs and do not really need a headliner. But I needed it to be clean without a drooping headliner and foam getting all over the place. I decided to go with Larry's recommendation and just remove the headliner. He did this for me free of charge. It took about 30 minutes. He was careful to remove all the foam and was careful with the moon-roof. I remounted my dome light and I was on my way. I can't believe he did this service for me free of charge. There really are good people out there and Larry is one of them! If I ever needed anything done related to upholstery, he is my man. Thanks Larry! I hope to see you again soon. read more

I heard about San Leandro Upholstery from BumperDoc next door. At the time (last week) they had no reviews. I rarely use a company without reviews, but Jeff at Bumperdoc said they did good work. So I got a very good estimate from Larry at San Leandro Upholstery. Decided to use him as I could get his interior work while Bumperdoc was doing my exterior job. Turns out that Larry did a fantastic job of replacing the left side of my driver's leather seat at the price he quoted. And at no charge he fixed my convertible top, my floor mat, and improved my driver side arm rest. I was initially worried because his estimate was a single number on his business card. But he really came though for me. He's been in business for a long time. Most of his customers are older San Leandro citizens that apparently don't use the internet much. Mr.Larry is the best! He fixed the interior of my driver door of my mustang in less than 15 minutes like he said he would. I went to another place earlier and they told me "I would have to leave the car for an entire day because they were gonna do at least 8 hours of labor which would cost me $150" that was obviously a lie since Mr.Larry only took 15 min and to put the cherry on top he didn't charge me a dime! Then reupholstered the bench seat with material that made it look like the factory did it. He also extended my seat belts 4 inches with not extra charge. Larry did a great job on my 1990 convertible top, which had never been replaced. Ordered one online from Robbins Auto and had him install it. Larry was easy-going and nice to deal with, and even fixed my dangling glove box from a break-in as a bonus. Price was reasonable for the job, if you know what you're doing, these tops can be installed in 2 to 3 hours. I highly recommend Larry, and he's just a plain cool guy! I have a 13 year old Toyota 4-Runner. It's in excellent condition. Well, I have a dog that loves to travel everywhere with me. She did a number with her claws on my front leather seats. I wanted to lower the seat in my KTM 350 EXC-F so rather than cut the old foam I bought new foam with a seat cover. In the past I recovered a seat myself but swore I wouldn't do it again, tedious and frustrating. I called Larry based on the excellent yelp reviews and was not disappointed.
