I decided to get my engine looked at on my big block 1970 El Camino, my rockers were loose and my lifters were making ticking noises. Getting sick of doing the valve lash in my garage, I wanted a simple cam swap and retrofit to Hydraulic roller cam/ lifters. Unfortunately, due to neglected maintenance or build from the prior owner, the simple swap became almost a complete rebuild. Daniel and Pat kept me informed on the project throughout and kept pricing in check. When all was said and done, I got a perfectly running lumpy cam big block retrofitted with hydraulic roller cam/ lifters. Daniel is a great engine builder and meticulous to detail and perfection. I just recently brought it in to get my break in oil changed and chassis lubed, (first one after a rebuild) Absolutely no leaks or seeps anywhere! I was able to get the oil change done same day while I waited. Ive been into cars all my life and had my share of shops I trusted and the work Precision Motive did hits the highest mark with me. I went to Pat to have some rather extensive electrical work done aclfter I gave up. I had a Mast Motorsports LS3 driven by a 4L80 transmission in my 71 Chevelle/major restomod project. Let's just say I had no idea how to make the two "talk" to each other or how to wire it. What started as an electrical job morphed into much more. I ended up having them change out/plumb my brake system, cooling system, fuel system, some other things and basically get my car running/drivable. Long story short, while this is not a cheap shop, they can do or figure out just about anything. I had not realized how complicated my build was and definitely wouldn't have figured out or come up with some of the items they did. Loved working with the owner/Pat. I would recommend him for anything above and beyond with your car. read more

I got treated fairly. My car was fixed correctly. I was not teased for putting a plug with 0 gap into my motor, despite richly deserving it. Fee was reasonable and results made me smile. As a first time corvette (95 LT1) owner with limited automotive knowledge, Pat is exactly the kind of mechanic I needed. His knowledge and honesty are unrivaled. Coming from a 2008 Subaru Outback, every unusual (for me) noise was cause for worry. When my rear differential began to whine, I took it to another specialty shop which quoted me $2400 for a rebuild. I brought it to Pat two times to check out the noise. Not only did he assure me that no repairs were needed, but also took the time to run me through his analysis in layman friendly terms so that I would understand the diagnosis. He saved me $2400 for a rebuild and didn't charge me for taking a look at it. Truly a class act. I bought my dream car, a '72 Corvette back in 1994. My boss, who owns a '67, introduced me to Pat Hendrix of Precision Motive. Since 1995 Pat has redone the electrical, replaced the tired stock engine with a ZZ4 350/355 H.O. GM crate motor and a Holley 750, with MSD ingnition. He had the T400 rebuilt with a street fighter shift kit and rebuilt my rear end and suspension. I've taken to Sac Raceway and bracket raced it every year since. I've experienced HPDE at Infineon Raceway. I've auto crossed it on several occassions. Another great thing I really like about Pat is he gives you a head's up about other things that may or may not be critical, which I believe is the reason we've gone so many years without a hitch. I also like how Pat will take his time and explain everything to me related to how things work. This takes alot of patience because I know very little about the mechanics of automotive science. Pat's quality and expertise is second to none. He also takes care of my wife, Barbara's SS '68 Camaro. He dropped in a 330 hp GM crate motor and replaced the 350 xmission with a 700R4. He also put in vintage air to keep the wife nice and comfy. When mama's happy, everybody's happy. My boss told me that Pat is an honest man and stands behind his work. I have had the honor to experience this truth. This in itself is priceless. Another truth is, you get what you pay for and I don't let anyone other than Pat and his team touch my Vette and Barb's Camaro. With Pat Hendrix Precision Motive, its worth very penny. These guys do great work. I needed to have the valve seals done on my iroc-z and they were one of the few shops that could do it without taking the heads off. (gotta float the valves up). Anyways After having the everything done, the same day I noticed the car was still burning some oil. Took it back the following Monday and found a few of the seals were crushed. Long story short, I had them re-do the valve seals this time I provided the part number because I've read others experiencing the same issue on the forums. Pat ended up charging me.... After some negotiations he ended up charging me half the price. Overall I'm glad I know how to work on my own cars, just wish I knew how to do internal work. I feel like I paid way too much. So if it's not a special repair on an ultra rare car, take it somewhere else and save some major bucks. Ps. If you plan on dropping your car off make sure you have over a 1/4 tank of gas because they will charge you a butt load. read more

Wrapping up a long term project hotrodded '57 Chevy. I had a some issues with wiring and front suspension. So glad I went to Pat Hendrix at Precision Motive! They promptly set at work and sorted the problems I had gone in for, plus a couple issues they discovered along the way. He oil-primed the engine and even waited till I showed up before we woke the neighborhood with a fresh engine's initial start. The whole team was personable and professional. Zero Stars. Do not recommend coming to the place. I thought I was getting quality service based on other reviews. Spent lots of money to get my truck going. It still doesn't work, all I asked was to install an Edelbrock Carburetor on my 71 GMC, Pat told me to junk my truck that it wasn't worth it. Drove the truck home after leaving the shop without checking the quality of the work, shortly after leaving the shop the truck died out. Finally got home, looked under the hood, spark plugs & wires were loose. Distributor cap was loose. I had gotten out of hospital recently and was not feeling so good and probably didn't seem like I was in my right mind, they took my disadvantage as an advantage to get over on me at least that is how I feel. I don't want ANYBODY touching it. I brought it in for an AC problem and knew they would have the dash apart and some of the carpet out. I was freaked out. I got the car back today. I feel I got a fair shake on the price and the car was well cared for and buttoned up so well even I couldn't tell that someone had worked on it. If you like scratches on your Classic 70 Cutlass with a CANDY PAINT? They can take care of that too! These Ladies scratched my car, denied doing it, said they would pay for it, & didnt do shit! Said I needed a original invoice to show there were no marks on my car. I wax my car once a week so let's just say I know every inch of my car. These COWARDS know they scratched my Cutlass! That's why BOB said they would pay for it originally! Then I called to speak to the suppose boss (PAT) who's got his head between his legs & needs to man up! Tells me I need an original invoice. So one day your shop says we didn't do it, another day don't worry we'll take care of it, & then the final outcome. I originally thought this was an upscale business that took care of their customers but as you can see just another bunch of snakes in the automotive business! I think i finally found out what the meaning of their name is, Precision Motive = they have a precise motive to rip off their customers to they can have their big fancy shop and these old cagey mechanics can fatten their wallets. While Precision Motive has a reputation to do good work on Corvettes and are capable of souping up classic cars they also greatly overcharge for the minor repair. I unwittingly paid them $520 to remove and replace a computer on my '81 Vette. A task that I've since done by myself since the new computer was giving me some problems and I had to send it to have it looked at since it was still under warranty. Removing it required the disconnection of the battery, removal of the battery, removing three screws and two wire harness connection for the computer. This task took a whooping 15 minutes at the most, and since it was my first time most of that time was devoted to finding the correct socket size. Yet Precision charged me $520 for this. While Precision's rep may make it the place where people with a lot of money want to take their classic cars to get tuned up I think one should consider other options. This place clearly over charges the naive customer. Never again will I take my car to Precision. read more

They've taken expert care of our cars over the years; specifically they've looked after our '65 fuelie, our '69 427/435, and our '58 convertible. They've helped troubleshoot and fix quite a few problems with the cars over the years. Aside from their skill and expertise, they are all very nice people and are a pleasure to work with. For some reason my previous post is not shown as a review. Pat Hendrix was recommended to me 8 years ago as "the most honest and knowledgeable Corvette expert" in the Bay Area. I have used Pat consistently with 5 vintage '66-'69 Corvettes as well as a '65 GTO and a '65 Nova. All work was professionally done to my complete satisfaction. All of my cars were high end collectable cars and Pat and his team handled the work with care and competence. My '68 Corvette Owens Corning car recently sold for over $1m. Pat diagnosed a carburetor problem on the L-88 engine and had the car starting like a new car--just amazing. Pat is a car guy at heart. His wife and daughter also love the hobby and could not be more delightful and courteous to me as a customer. The bad review from 2011 must be a "poser" as Pat's customers are loyal and supportive. My advice, is to totally ignore the "noise" from this rater. Whatever his motivation, his comments are NOT descriptive of this highly competent shop that charges reasonable market rates for highly skilled work. read more

I have been bringing my personal cars to Precision Motive for years and I have never seen any "old cagey mechanics" working there. Yes the shop is big and clean but not necessarily fancy, unless you consider tool chests fancy. They always have nice collector type of cars in their shop which is probably why they keep it so clean and neat. I have not owned a Corvette in years yet I still bring my family cars to them for small and major types of repairs. They have been in business for over 30 years and you don't stay around that long by over charging your customers. They are not cheap but I always felt that I received a good value for the work that was done on my vehicles. If you are looking for good quality work done by knowledgeable experienced mechanics then I would highly recommend Precision Motive. I have had brake jobs, tune ups, rear end replacement, engine code diagnostics, shock absorber replacements, wheel bearing repairs, battery and alternator replacements, front end alignments, engine rebuild, and numerous other repairs over the years on at least seven different vehicles including my children's and my mothers cars. I could have done a lot of this work myself but I chose to have it done by a professional especially when it comes to my family's safety. read more

I've known Pat (he's the owner) for almost 30 years now and have spent plenty of time at his shop watching him and his mechanics work on my vehicles as well as others. There was no other shop I would take my vehicles to until I moved to Los Angeles several months ago. I came here to write a review after experiencing what Los Angeles had to offer for car repair. Clearly I was spoiled, to put it lightly. I called Pat a few days ago as a last resort to get some advise on an issue I was having with my Camaro. He took time out of his day to help walk me through it and steer me to a more honest mechanic. He didn't have to do this since I wasn't a paying client any more, but he did and saved me thousands of dollars. I was looking to buy a 1969 Corvette. I found 6 around the country all with different combination of options. I called Pat and Bob alt east 6 times with a whole series of questions about how much things would cost to do. They were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Keep in mind at this time they were not making any money, they clearly enjoyed doing what they do. I bought a car in Dallas and had it inspected there and had some repairs priced by Corvette world of Dallas, when the car got here I had Bob check it out and his prices were very similar if not little less (keep in mind I am not interested in the lowest bid, just a fair price). I also did some for research with local corvette clubs and they all had Precision on their short list of places for classic american muscle car work. Going to their shop was amazing. I saw 8 classic cars being worked on when I was there, from concourse condition to daily driver. He was able to show me an example of the work I wanted on my car with one the cars they were working on. They were very friendly, took a lot of time explaining items to me, certainly did not get a sense they were trying to over sell me. I am dropping the car off next week. Recently, I took my 87 Corvette in to Precisionmotive for a upgrade from the factory TPI intake system to a after market Lingenfelter Super Ram that meets the states rigid emission standards. Because it is a complicated system, few would even consider touching it. A friend suggested I contact Pat at Precisionmotive stating that Pat has a lot of experience with this system and was someone I could trust. What I really liked about Pat was his ability to keep me informed while he was doing the work plus pointing out things that I knew in advance that the car needed repairing though they were minor in nature. Gave him the OK to fix what was needed and glad that I did. When I picked up the car yesterday, I couldn't believe how well it sounded and ran, it was like a new world. As stated earlier, Pat is a great communicator and at no time was I ever left in the dark of what was going on. His pre work quote for the job was actually a bit cheaper when I went and picked the car up yesterday which really put a smile on my face. Would I recommend Pat and Precisionmotive to my family and friends...you bet I would without hesitation!
