I brought my 1990 Mustang GT in to help finish my stroker motor build. Matt and his team diagnosed and fixed four problems with the car: i) intake manifold leak, ii) bad distributor, iii) lousy internet purchased chip, and iv) and fine-tuned the electric fans, installed a better thermostat housing and lower temperature thermostat. The car went from barely running to running like a champ in a very short time and for a very reasonable price. This is my 2nd time to Nextgen, I brought my 86 mustang in for a dyno tune and smog check after replacing my intake (no thanks to Edelbrock!). The main goal was to have it pass smog so I can complete my registration, and it did not pass on a previous attempt somewhere else due to running rich. Although the smog machine was broken for a few days (just my luck), I got my car back with a smog certificate. My HP # was a little lower than I expected, but higher than it ever has been and runs great. They even cleaned up a few things for me: I had installed an electric fan, but didn't have time to run the overflow hose to the tank, so they ran the hose and made it look real nice. A week later, I noticed that they cleaned up my hanging O2 sensor harness (I had it for long tube headers, then switched to shorties). And, they didn't even charge me for any of that extra work. I came here to get an exhaust installed on my Mustang after coming across them on a forum and was not disappointed. I scheduled an appointment and sure enough, they had me in immediately and got the job done quickly. For insurance purposes, you can't usually stand in the area they were working but they were cool enough to at least let me watch and voice any concerns I had during the install. These guys work pretty fast and efficiently despite it being a relatively small shop. Once the job was finished, the price was adjusted to reflect the actual labor time. Very cool! They seem like a more Mustang-focused shop but I will definitely go back to these guys for anything automotive-related in the future. Needless to say, I left a happy camper. read more

So I had an appointment for over a month with these guys and I get to the shop the day of the appointment for them to tell me their tuner is out of town for two weeks. I even called three times last week on wed, Thur, and Friday to confirm my appointment and nobody answered the phone. This is extremely unprofessional I had to pay $200 for a tow and take the day off of work then I had to drive my untuned car home an hour away because I didn't want this day to cost me $1000. Honestly, I don't know why everyone is giving them 5 stars. I already lost count of how many times I had to take my husband's Cobra to them. My husband would always go or call when he would have a chance to, and tell the Asian guy what he wanted him to do. But because he would open at 9am, I would have to go and drop it off. I would go in and tell him every single time, I'm dropping the car off you spoke to my husband and give him his name and still would not remember what he would talk about with my husband. There was a point the car was just up on the jack for roughly 2 -3 weeks. My husband was pissed. He would always go in there and ask, "are you guys done" all they would say is call us back tomorrow. We were soo tired of it, finally when he got his car back it had the check engine light on. WTF!! The car prior never had it on, now it's stuck like that and we don't want to take it back to him. Nice to find a mustang specific shop in the east bay. The owner Matt was great to deal with. Gave me a fair quote on some LCAs and install over the phone. When I brought my car in for the scheduled appt he got my car in right away. Knowing I was concerned about possible squeaks from the new bushings, Matt instructed his guys to use Energy Suspension lubricant. Got my car back quickly as promised for the price quoted. Appreciated Matt's suspension input (he saved me money by reassuring me of my pinion seal concern rather than selling me a $350 piece I didn't need). I now have a more stable well planted rear suspension, minimal increase in chassis/drivetrain noise, and remain squeak free. I'll be calling on Matt again in the future! Also for anyone looking for a dyno, I spotted one in one of their bays. read more

I've only taken my Mustang here once before but I would definitely do so again. Communication on the progress was excellent and the job was completed on time and perfectly. Matt really got my cobra going for me. It was throwing a camshaft position sensor code and no other shop could figure out why. I had my engine fully rebuilt and apparently it had the wrong cam gear installed causing the car to barely run. For months I tried to figure it out and it was really frustrating. I took my car to Matt and he did some serious detective work and spent the time to find out the correct gear. He also dyno tuned my vehicle all for a very great price. Very happy with the results. Plenty fast. Anyway be sure to take your cobra to Matt because he knows them well. He even drew me up on a white board the old and new cam signal and explained in detail what was wrong with the car. Had an appointment March 18 to get a engine plus a tune and new clutch. Was told it would take around a week. The install took over 2 weeks which is completely fine. Matt was supposed to tune my car the following Monday but instead tuned other cars for 3 weeks because he's only there one day a week while my car sat. While I was looking in the window I noticed a huge scratch on my otherwise perfect condition factory steering wheel. After expressing my frustration to him he said he would have it replaced or repaired. Well my only choice was to repair it since a NOS steering wheels for a 1991 mustang don't exist. After 3 weeks of it sitting Matt finally got around to tuning my car only to call and ask if my transmission ever popped out of gear(which it never did). After further inspection I was told the transmission would have to be removed and sent to a transmission shop. Well after talking to the shop I found out Nextgen installed my transmission bearing retainer incorrectly and damaged half of my transmission. At that point I decided to pay half to rebuild the other half Nextgen wasn't responsible for. After picking the transmission up myself just so I can get my car back in a timely manner I brought it to them. I finally got my car back but had to break in the clutch for the tune. Set up an appointment and when I showed up Matt told me they didn't have any chips in stock. Completely irresponsible. After expressing my frustration about him knowing I was coming for a tune today and what I've went through already they were somehow able to get a chip for my car. Got my car back only to realize after several different trips back to the shop that they didn't put in my air box bolts, I was missing my clutch fork cover and clutch cable clip. I also was missing a plastic cover under the hood. I'm not sure if they were trying to keep my extra spark plug wires because when they weren't in my extra parts box I went to get them and they were on another car they were working on. So after having the car back and driving it I noticed a very noticeable click in the clutch pedal that wasn't there before and a noise coming from the bellhousing, as well as a engine stumble. After bringing it back to diagnose the clicking in the pedal Matt told me it was my clutch cable even though another cable that they put on was doing the same thing. So I ordered the cable($110) and $40 labor to put it. Go to get my car and instantly feel the clicking I brought it in for. Then I noticed they installed the cable incorrectly there should be a spacer on the quadrant side of the cable.so when I got home I had to install it myself. Asked Matt to feel it and he told me it was "normal", which it obviously isn't. After explaining to him I want my car fixed whether it's something not installed right or something different(meaning I pay) he told me he cannot diagnose it and he will not work on my car in the future. This has honestly been the worst experience I've had in dealing with a "shop". Nobody communicates they don't call with any updates or even answer the phone. Very bad business practices. I'm now stuck having to take my car somewhere else to get it fixed or be told something wasn't installed correctly. I'm still waiting on my tune issue to be resolved. read more
