I've been over-charged, bait and switched, wildly underwhelmed, and still, my car's lights didn't work after paying out far too much money. When i brought my car in to these folks, they listened. They were kind. They had a specialist in San Jose who drove up to check on my car, for which they didn't charge extra. They spent extra time making sure they knew exactly what was going on before they even came up with the estimate. They got a good price on the part and didn't throw a huge up-charge on it. On top of all that, and all the time and effort they put into this, they only charged me for an hour of labor. Even better, they got the job done perfectly. Honesty. Integrity. Amazing skills. They may not have the fanciest shop in Castro Valley, but they have the best crew in Castro Valley. I won't be taking my car anywhere else from now on.

Where do I begin? I genuinely wanted to like this place because I had read several positive…read morereviews, and my initial experience with the staff and customer service was pleasant. I brought my car in because it wasn't driving the way it normally does. They kept the vehicle for a day and contacted me the following day to recommend replacing the transmission. The estimate was approximately $9,800, which was far beyond what I expected--and, quite frankly, extremely concerning. My vehicle is not yet six years old, and I have consistently kept up with routine maintenance, including regular oil changes. Naturally, I was very disappointed to be told that I needed a replacement transmission, especially at that cost. I decided to get a second opinion from another repair shop, and I'm very glad I did. They diagnosed the issue as spark plugs and ignition coils--not a transmission problem. After replacing those components, my car is now running beautifully. I appreciate the customer service I received, but unfortunately, I cannot justify returning to a shop that would recommend a repair of nearly $10,000 when the actual issue turned out to be something significantly less expensive. I understand that diagnostics can sometimes be complicated and that different shops may reach different conclusions. However, an estimate of $9,800 is a substantial amount of money, and I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before committing to a repair of that magnitude. Thank you for your time and for the service you provided. I sincerely wish you the best, but based on this experience, I will likely may not return.

I was looking for the best place to take my car for engine work and Nakayama MS got many more recommendations for my car than any other shop, and Yelp reviews were solid-so that was where I was going! I understood very quickly why Yelp and the FB car community recommends Nakayama MS- they are truly car experts, and they also specialize in performance cars. The owner, John Nakayama, has the perfect balance of being extremely knowledgeable and savvy, trustworthy, and he is also a very kind person. Cost for repairs was neither cheap nor expensive-I found the costs were reasonable for the high quality of work, and peace of mind. John was very patient with me-answering all of my questions, and he was very thorough and concise with his explanations. My car is now running beautifully! I highly recommend John and his amazing team at Nakayama Motorsports!

It bothers me that I must write this, but the time has come. As one can tell from my previous…read morereview, I was really high on this place, but the bloom is off the rose. I took my Lexus there 2 days ago for a routine oil change, and to repair a coolant leak that I had diagnosed. The leak was indisputably the result of the lower radiator hose rubbing against the alternator drive pulley. This hose was installed by them when they did my timing belt service. Because I provided the hose, they disclaimed warranty coverage. The problem is that it was not a part failure; it was an installation error. I wasn't crazy about it, even after Paige began/attempted to tell me that if that were the case, it would have failed months ago. That is patently false. It was a tight installation, and the contact between the two parts was very slight. A blind man could see it. I explained to her that I am a 50+year veteran of the automotive repair industry, and that this was an installation error; not a part failure. She even claimed that they did not install it. I invited her to look up the repair sequence for the timing belt job in Alldata. She should have taken notice that I even knew what Alldata was. I advised her that one of the early steps in the process is to remove the radiator. Since they did acknowledge the timing belt/water pump job, they really don't have a leg to stand on. She was not about to be swayed, even when I told her that That would be the last of me they would ever see. Ever hear the term "penny wise and pound foolish"? So beware- their warranty means nothing. Had I not picked up on the leak in time, things would be very different. A $20K engine's destruction would have shown them a much more animated and dissatisfied customer. Bill Adams would have never allowed this to happen, but alas, Bill couldn't be involved, and many of you know why. But he understood the importance of keeping their clientele happy and returning. Unfortunately, he had to distance himself from the business, and hand it down to the kids. They are woefully under prepared, in my humble estimation. They wanted to charge me for a repair that was clearly caused by their error. Imagine that...chasing away any customer over a simple and relatively inexpensive issue like this. But a customer who has a history of thousands of dollars with your company??? They will learn a hard lesson, and it won't involve me any longer. All the people that older reviewers are raving about are gone. So are some of the perks. They have discontinued UBER service for customers, even though their sign out front brags of it. I'm voting with my feet and my wallet....Good luck; you're going to need it.

I usually supply my own OEM parts for repair but decided to let Mangale order a fan clutch for my overheating F150. I asked about brands like Hayden and Four Seasons but was told they have had problems with these so I let the shop order whatever they recommended that works best. The Hayden, Four Seasons and Metrix (API) fan clutches are all under $60 on Parts Geek. My issue is I was charged $261 for a Metrix 1604-328141. The same clutch is on Parts Geek for $59. That is a 444% mark up on this same part by the same manufacturer. My advice is to supply your own OEM parts. You will $ave in the long run. My second complaint is a bolt broke off on the thermostat housing while replacing the thermostat (corrosion). It happens and I get it. What I do not understand is how can extracting one bolt cost $750. I was charged 3.5 hours to remove one bolt. I feel like the problem was exaggerated to me verses buying a new manifold. I overpaid the clutch fan by $200. Then the bolt extraction should be 1-2 hours tops so I was overcharged $450 for that as well. I should have gone to the Ford dealer
