After - Repaired cane back by The Chairman
    Mr Kitty K.

Lamar replaced & stained the cane back of a 50 year old Ethan Allen dining chair. He did an excellent job at a reasonable price. He is a real craftsman, Hard to find these days.

I bought 2 antique chairs that are really beautiful, but they needed some TLC. I was going to take them to a place in Emeryville, but it was no longer there. I think this is a slowly disappearing craft. I looked on-line through several reviews and decided on "The Chairman " I sent some pictures and he said he could help. I took the chairs in and they were done very quickly. I thought it would be at least a month, but it was probably a couple weeks? I was super impressed by the workmanship. He repaired, and Im guessing , polished the chairs too; they look amazing. Mr. Spaulding and Thuy were so very nice and I wouldn't hesitate to take any piece of furniture there.

I had this rocking chair I bought over 20 years ago during my visit to Costa Rica. I liked it enough that I did not throw away when it was broken, hoping to fix it someday. My attempt to fix went unsuccessful and finally, after 20 years, I sought out for a professional service! Check out the pic of before and after! The repair cost me 3 times more than the original chair, but nothing can replace the sentiment that comes with certain pieces of furniture! thanks!

Hi, I have a teak chest of drawers that now (unfortunately) has a water ring/stain on it. Do you do teak refinishing repairs?

Yes sometimes I can remove the water stain without having to refinish the entire top but I can refinish the entire top if need be. Either way I’m confident the chess will look like new when I am finished.

On the blue section, and there was some over-spray and it has a yellowish green tint. It took him a few quick minutes to mix some dye and he didn't really spot check for match. I asked if he could match it better but he said it could make it worse. There was also over-spray. Frankie just blocks off the untouched spot by holding a piece of cardboard. It wasn't precision and care. Also, deep scratches could be sanded, smoothed and polished to match, but he doesn't go to this level of service. He just applies putty over it and lets you know it will leave a lump. However, the match on black was very good, almost perfect. But it felt rough due to the over-spray. Overall, I had expected a more precise hand polishing process and care for matching, but it was just quick spray paint. Deep scratches really didn't get resolved. The car is now a collectors item. I was hoping for a level of quality that matches the prestige. EDIT In response to the owner; I do not use Yelp much and do not write many reviews. But they are bad experiences that are memorable enough to share and I provided evidence (invoices and pictures) to support it. The owner's lack of accountability in his response should be a concern. I've had someone asking about his work the past few weeks (2025: 9 years later) and it prompted me to help this person and update the review and even tone it down a tad for the owner's benefit. 1 and 2. The pictures uploaded appear the same quality as the original but resized. Don't believe otherwise as the owner leads you to believe. Many of you have uploaded pictures and know this is is a lie. I believe Yelp will also dispute the owner on the quality of their site. 3. As for repairing scratches, I had no issues and mearly shared the level of service ($350 - in 2016 dollars) for the community, but the owner has a problem with me sharing it. 4. The car was just as pristine in 2016 as today 2025, 1,500 miles later. I have the invoices on the work, dated before Frankie's job. In fact, I should probably write a review on it since the owner seems to have a problem with me not writing good reviews, especially if it is redundant to many other good reviews. 5. The owner is lying about the date of the job and timing of my review. The job was done on 2/6/2016. My review was dated 5/7/2016. I moved away from the area June 2016 and was very busy with preparing for the move and finishing up my life there. 6. The owner claimed he could make it right, but as he mentioned during the job, he did not want to fix the mismatch. I had no reason to contact him further. I moved to a different area a few months later and had more important concerns than the owner's job and was fine with just writing a review. The owner needs to own it.

Lucky for us because 15 years ago he was 1-1/2 times more expensive than what we paid recently at a different shop for better quality material and similar craftsmanship. We found Tri-Valley Upholstery (TVU) in Pleasanton after searching and doing some research. My wife reached out via e-mail to inquire about the work we needed and later followed up with pictures. Tri-Valley gave us an estimate and we scheduled an appointment to bring in one chair for evaluation and finalized specifics. We met with Eduardo who was very helpful, energic and enthusiastic. We picked out the material, received a sample, approved the material and scheduled the project. TVU did a beautiful job on reupholstering 6 chairs with a really nice piece of leather. Seats are taunt, tucked perfectly around the chair backs and the bead is spot on. There was a real minor tweak on 3 chairs that TVU took care of quickly. Dropped the chairs off and the next morning they were completed. Eduardo and his team are talented, very responsive, knowledgeable and produce quality work to make customers happy. If you need something reupholstered, give Tri-Valley Upholstery a try. You won't be disappointed and they are priced well.

It was about 11pm so I didn't expect a response until the next morning but I got rapid fire responses and was able to schedule an appointment the following week after confirming a few details (namely, insurance to cover the table if it is damaged) I wanted to re-finish an epoxy resin waterfall table that I messed up on and wanted to restore its matte finish. The table was picked up and I was told to expect it to be done within 1 week. About a week went by, I checked in for any updates and pictures and was told they just put on the first coat. Another week went by and the second coat was applied but was told the issue prior to the work is still visible. I was then upsold to switch to CV (previous was using rubio/osmo to finish). Being fairly unknowledgable about finishes, I asked a few questions and was just told it was better. I did some basic research (chatgpt, reddit, youtube, etc.) and was fine with it. It cost an extra $100 but the labor to re-sand the surface to remove the rubio applied was covered. All in all, about 3 weeks went by and I received the refinished product. Overall, I it looks as I wanted it to. Mauricio handled the initial pickup and subsequent re-delivery so the process is very convenient if you are busy and don't want to plan how to transport heavy furniture. Some notes: - Its best to reach out via text message to Mauricio and to do so at some regular cadence if you want updates. Perhaps calling would be more expedient if you have the time. - There's a lot of promises or statements that were not followed through (e.g. I'll send an invoice by end of day, I'll send updated pictures by end of day, etc.). See first point. - Estimate may be over-exaggerated. The project went from 1 week to 3 weeks. - It would be nice to do a pros/cons breakdown or simply spend a few sentence educating clients on the trade off of finishes (e.g. Rubio vs Osmo, Rubio vs CV, etc.).
