The service was very good. I've been to Mel's many times over the years. My House Salad was excellent. I felt that the Turkey Dinner that I ordered was not as good as in previous visits. The diner was less than half full, so you had to wonder how long the wait would be if it were filled. The menu has a variety of options, along with a drink menu and ice cream treats. Hubs ordered the classic diner fare, a pot roast sandwich, with fries and slaw. I decided on the chicken, strawberry and quinoa salad. The chicken was dry and half of it went home to the yorkies, although the greens were fresh and the vinaigrette dressing was good. Hubs was enjoying his pot roast sandwich, when he asked for the check and our server grabbed his plate without asking if he was finished. He was looking at the check and didn't notice his plate had disappeared. He wasn't happy about that, since he was still eating. Portions are generous and parking is good, but less of a wait and more attention to details would be a nice improvement. We may visit Mel's again. read more

I don't even wanna give you a litany of things that were so wrong, but get ready, I will anyhow... from the sour smelling coleslaw to the twice over-fried haddock to the most ridiculous macaroni cheese I've ever seen -- or tasted -- in my life. Looks like they dumped cheese whiz on top of overcooked noodles and then didn't even have the sense to stir it in. The fries were OK and actually the cream of broccoli soup was tasty, but the saltine crackers in the package were so stale, I had to spit it out. The food took some time to come out, but nothing concerning. I went the real big country fried steak ($10.59). It was topped with homemade sausage gravy and served with 2 eggs, and an option of breakfast potatoes or hash browns, and buttered toast or a biscuit. I opted for scrambled eggs with breakfast potatoes and a biscuit. The name of the dish was true as the steak was "real big." The gravy was thick and delicious while the steak was cooked appropriately. My only issue was the lack of flavor in the eggs, too plain. We walk out of the Naples Mel's Diner location. It was horrible. We had been to the Fort Myers location, which was great. But I was so surprised to find this place looked so run down. They were understaffed and those that worked there had really poor attitudes and looked unprofessional. Many items in the breakfast menu were unavailable, no bananas, no oranges, no oatmeal, no grits. Overall, it smelled, the plastic menus were sticky and the atmosphere was just completely unwelcoming. I've been to Mel's Diner many times. This time we went on Sat for breakfast, we ordered biscuits and gravy, eggs over med, and breakfast potatoes and buckwheat pancakes. Normally this would be a non-event. Pretty standard fare. However, the potatoes where way over cooked (burnt) and the biscuits where inedible. Truly inedible. So hard where they, that when I took a bite, I immediately spit it out. My guess is that the biscuits where a day old. You could barely cut them. Even though I have been to Mel's many times, I doubt if I will trust them again for a breakfast. read more

It's a nice diner, they truly do try. It just seems like everything needs to be one step more. I think the servers need to work on being a little more attentive, I think the kitchen needs to make sure the food goes out, hot and fresh, and I think the overall flavor and everything with the food to be one step better for the money they're charging. read more

Me and my boyfriend and our 2 yr old son ate here last night. Everything was great. Restaurant was super clean, and very festively decorated! We had kids Mac n cheese, bacon cheeseburger, corned beef and a pork quesadilla. All were super hot/fresh and as ordered. French fries were golden and hot. Service was fantastic! Our young server (I will get her name) was so sweet and attentive. Our son is special needs and is just starting to eat on his own. So while he is the cutest and most even mannered kid ever, his table manners are lacking. I kept picking up his discarded fries and they kept reassuring me that they understood, all with a smile. I've been to the other location more than this one. We were quickly greeted and met up with another family who really enjoys this location. For a Saturday night it was pretty full. They have 4 main areas to eat 1 was a dinning bar with stools. We sat in the back area which had two large flat screens. The entrees was all around $9-15 range. I had the open faced meat loaf sandwich very tasty. The flavor comes from good chunks of garlic. The gravy tasted like generic beef gravy a little high on the sodium. The mashed potatoes were plenty hot and had a very good taste and texture. I was hoping the Texas toast to be a little toasted my guess it was done way earlier. So it was not a warm or crisp at all. We went to the Collier Blvd. location. We almost did not go in because we saw a huge cable hanging of the a/c splitter right above the entrance. Once inside, we sat in a booth that was sticky all over, including the table surface. Food was of low quality and the $7 fruit bowl was not as pictured or described in the menu. Went there yesterday for a soccer team dinner, we were about 45 ppl (20 kids), so it sounded like 100 ppl. Our group was not an easy group I know, but the servers did a great job, they were very nice and efficient, the food took some time (but with the amount of tickets going to the kitchen at once) if it didn't I would think the food was not fresh . I've lived in Naples for close to 12 years now and Mel's has been a staple for me for most of it. My son and I have a tradition to go by and have breakfast any Saturday my wife is out of town, the service is always fantastic, the value is always very good, and my son can't get enough of their awesome sausage gravy. There aren't a lot of breakfast choices around here and we chose Mel's. The building looks kind of condemned from the outside with a tarp on the roof and our server smelled like a cigarette. The staff was friendly and the decor was tacky. The breakfast was so so. They offer martinis or bloody Mary's with breakfast if you desire, I think $3.00. They brought plenty of creamer and plenty of butter with our food. No jelly was offered with the biscuits so I didn't ask. My omelette had American cheese which I knew when I ordered, but it is kind of rare to have that as a topping in a decent restaurant. The omelette was alright and cooked as I ordered and it was a filling portion but I wouldn't say the portions are oversized for those who are wondering. read more

I started going to Mel's diner on Collier about 12 years ago. I was always impressed with the selection, the portion size, and the price. When I first started going there, they had standing lines outside the restaurant, usually during the evening hours. I must say that I am somewhat disappointed with them at this point. The last couple visits were less than desirable. The quality of the food has gone down. The prices have gone up significantly. In fact, with the prices they charge now, I have started going to other restaurants with better atmosphere and food quality. I certainly hope they take some sort of corrective action. I should also mention that the last couple of times, I was there, the restaurant was very empty, and they're definitely was not a standing line. read more
