Came for lunch on a Sunday, wasn't too busy and had no wait for seating. We sat on the patio and it took 15 minutes for a server to come to our table only after we asked the hostess if we were going to get taken care of. We ordered our iced teas and two salads as soon as the waiter came out. Then proceeded to wait for an hour for our salads, asked the hostess twice about our food (as our waiter didn't come out to check on us) and waited another 10 minutes before we just decided to walk out. The one star is because they at least didn't make us pay for the iced teas, otherwise it would definitely be a zero star experience. read more

I love Mellow mushroom pizza! I can't say this enough but their crust is so perfect, soft in the inside and crispy on the outside. If you check in on Yelp, you get a free order of pretzel bites which was so good! First time at this location and no complaints here. I even forgot my iPhone at the table leaving the restaurant and one of the employee ran out and handed it to me, that was so nice of her. Thank you! read more

Waiting over an hour for One order of wings to go. Also a bummer they don't offer half off wings anymore, which was a plus when ordering drinks throughout the night. Not any more. read more

It was my first time at this location. Their prices were great for food and drinks. We ordered 10 piece wings, artichoke dip and I think it was their house medium pizza(supreme) and 2 cocktails. We split it between 3 people and there were pizza left over. It came out to be around 60 dollars which was insane. I know they have a great happy hour menu too. read more

The food was really good, me and my friend chose the great white and I chose a cider beer and I really loved both! We pigged out! However our server wasn't the best. As soon as we walked in, it was completely dead, maybe one customer at the bar. We had to see her for service and a table and she just seemed not welcoming. I get it you don't wanna work when it's dead but the least you can do is be welcoming and warm especially if you work in customer service. She didn't check up on us once and she seemed very judgmental towards me and my friend? It wasn't even busy so maybe she had a bad day? But the overall service wasn't the best. 3 stars for the food! read more

Disappointing. Crust is inexplicably wheat. Just so you know. Toppings mediocre. I got a simple cheese and it was coagulated and not impressive. Sauce left no lasting impression. Crust session would have been nice if it wasn't wheat. Nobody wants a pizza on toast. read more

So underrated? This is the place for pizza... and Cocktails. Pizza is phenomenal, I've been to so many pizza places and this has become one of my favorites. I will say though, the toppings can be expensive, depending what you consider expensive! For 2 medium pizzas(4 toppings each pizza) with 2 cocktails total was about 120 with tip included. The most expensive thing was of course the pizza so be prepared. We just added toppings with out knowing. but definitely the place to spend your money on pizza. The margarita was great and the sunset in paradise was a bit too sweet for me. read more

We just got take out from this location and could not be more disappointed. We waited an hour to get our food only for the soup to be cold, potatoes undercooked, and missing our sides. I ordered a hoagie, which I wish I took a picture of, it was a literal slice of bread with avocado and sliced cheese- not even toasted. No heaters in the outside area, waitress did the bare minimum. And look at the picture of the Mac and cheese kids meal! The kids pizza was a slice of bread with melted cheese. The meal ended up being very expensive for a horrible experience. read more

Our last two visits at this location have been enough for us to not return. We overheard the who we learned was the bar manager brag about being 'blacked' to the men that were sitting next to us for I shit you not a good 20 minutes. Not a good look. We asked her male counterpart if this woman hated her job due to her complete lack of interaction with us. His response was 'she's our bar manager and only likes to wait on dudes'. The employee's also don't realize as paying customers, we don't want to hear the disgusting sexual comments amongst your peers. We should not hear who is doing what with who. I get it, it's a restaurant and that stuff happens but it's gross and totally unprofessional. Poor service and complete lack of interaction was finally enough for us to decide to go elsewhere for bar food and happy hour. read more

Came in right at 12. Waited about 4o minutes after ordering for our food. Asked the hostess for our server who never showed up. Left a few bucks for our drinks and just left. Would never go back and recommend you all stay away. read more

Nailed the gluten free pizza! Thin crust, but just as good. Having celiac disease sucks, but the build your own gf pizza was amazing!

Popped in for "we're still hungry" late night bite. The patio is perfect at night with Mill Street buzzing at most times. The pizza was average, which is perfect (beats bad). Our waitress was new and very kind. Nothing groundbreaking happening here from a foodie or pizza aficionado perspective, but good enough! read more

After hearing about Mellow Mushroom for years, I finally came here before a show at Gammage. The calzone I ordered was probably the worst calzone I have ever had. It was pizza dough folded over a thick goo of mozzarella cheese. I never had a calzone that didn't also have ricotta cheese inside. I could have ordered a cheese pizza if I would have known. The crust was barely cooked. read more

We came in late after going to the piano bar across the street. Loved the wings and all the pizza was hot and perfect!

Mellow is a great place to go for food, drinks, and service!! Reverse happy hour 7 nights a week which is hard to find anywhere and the best part is being served by lead bartender Alyssa!!! Always greeted with a smile and always takes good care of the customers. She is awesome! read more

I would do 0 stars but Yelp wouldn't let me. I was just trying to sit down and eat with my friends and family but they carded us and took my sisters and friends ID and claimed it was fake. They then threatened to call the cops afterwards and asked if we wanted to sit anyways and obviously we were not after that interaction. For the amount of people actually paying to eat there, it seemed alarming how concerned they were about identification when it was simply just a pizza place. I definitely would not go back to this place just because of the suspicion per individual for absolutely no reason. I probably won't be back soon because it was just weird for no reason. There are plenty more places to go in the area that will make you far more comfortable. read more

I was looking for a place to cool off and have a light meal in the hot Tempe afternoon when I was walking/touring around the area. This place is conveniently located across from the Westin hotel & was EXACTLY what I was looking for. The atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed. There was chill music playing at a nice volume, not too loud, which I appreciate. The seating is very spacious and I felt very comfortable in the clean and roomy booth I dined at. The staff were friendly and gave me a perfect amount of time and space between ordering, serving, and checking in to see if I needed anything. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Tempe! read more

Don't come here for the PIZZA. Nothing was really cooked, the dough was still raw. Bell peppers and onions weren't really spread throughout the pizza and not cooked either. Hummus, Kids pizza, house salad with grilled chicken, house salad, and a BBQ chicken pizza. Food was good, especially the pizza and the service was outstanding from a young lady training a guy in his first day. They both were attentive and gave great service. Only drawback was due to our seats on the patio. It was on the Mill St side I believe and the homeless accosting many passers by and smoking non stop. Once we left we were asked for money and we offered our leftover pizza instead. read more

Just decided to try this place out because I had seen it on Instagram and I went through the take out entrance none of the 3 employees acknowledged that I was there and I read the sign that said "to goes needed to go the end of the bar" and so I had to go inside the regular way. Place was nearly deserted. They had one person working in the bar he was grabbing drinks, taking a phone call, and then helping me. Service was okay, not good. Wouldn't recommend this place during the day maybe at night if they have more staff to actually help and make you feel welcomed. Pretzel bites were very bland so the beer cheese is necessary but even then the cheese doesn't have much flavor either. Pizza was nothing special. Waste of money. The service was as disappointing as the food and I wouldn't consider coming back. read more

Came here after a day party. Lit, hungry, and tired. This place was our saving grace and we ordered some of the most basic items and left happy as clams. My date and I shared a medium cheese pizza with an order of Thai chili wings. I asked for garlic to put on pizza in which our server gave us garlic aioli. Dipped our pizza in that and it was bangin. Pizza was delicious on its own but the garlic aioli put it one step above. Loved this place, great food, great service. Definitely coming back, may try something new, but thoroughly enjoyed our simple yet very tasty meal. read more

The most screwed up business. Ordered online and arrived at my pick up time and the pizzas had not been started. Asked for something to be comped and the manager said, I don't think so". Hope she is fired what a horrible manager. Why order ahead if this is what you get. read more

People that were working were nice enough. 30 bucks for a pizza is a bit outrageous for students. Plenty of space to eat and good specials

The pizza was bland until we added salt and pepper which is strange, because we never did that before. The vegan salad with the champagne vinaigrette was immaculate. They asked if we wanted wanted our salad and pretzels to come out before our food, and we said yes but it showed up relatively close together. The pretzels were soft and good, but I will say the service was slow considering it was almost dead there on Wednesday night 11/23. Overall the vibe just gave lazy, We are willing to try again. Maybe on a better night? read more

Great energetic service and good for big groups! Menu was diverse and food portions were substantial.

Working in a restaurant is a tough gig. Understandably, some employees, including managers, pay lip service to helping customers. Then, there are employees like Jaylen, at Mellow Mushroom in downtown Tempe, who are genuinely willing to service customers. Wrong toppings were used for my pizza takeout order. Of course, an honest mistake. The next day, I returned pizza to store hoping to get a replacement. Of the two people I spoke to, it was Jaylen who stepped up with sincerity to rectify the situation. He promptly made a new pizza with correct toppings. He came over multiple times to seek details about how I prefer my pizza prepared, seasoned, baked and cut. In short, he went above and beyond. Jaylen, if he wants the position, seems like a good candidate for a managerial position. The best indicator of a person's character is what they do when no one else is looking. On a Thursday late afternoon, during slow business, at the takeout window with no other customers in line or any supervisors at his side, Jaylen conducted himself as a model employee. So much that I was compelled to write this review to sing his praises. read more

pizza was great but the server had horrible attitude when we asked basic questions. For example, we asked for the "whole" pretzel appetizer. The Waitress rolled her eyes multiple times for not clarifying even though the options were "whole" or "half". Afterwards, she told us the price of our food while we were talking so I asked her to repeat herself and again she rolled her eyes and responded with annoyance. read more

I used to love this restaurant. The vibes were so on point every time I went there, with the music, the atmosphere, etc. However, the last couple times I've been here, it's just been so off. The first most recent time, our waiter wasn't rude... just unprofessional and disingenuous. Not too bad just weird, and then it took a very long time to get the check, and so we asked, and our waiter said that he was sorry and that he had told another waitress to handle the check... even though it wasn't her responsibility... and that she must have forgotten... hmm. The second most recent time, was even weirder. My family and I were basically rushed to leave, we were served like abnormally fast, and while we still were eating, we were brought the check, not even asked if we wanted the check or dessert, or anything like that. Slight complaint, both times there was something wrong with my salad, something missing, and next time the dressing was absolutely disgusting and I have no idea why, it's the same dressing I get each time. Another slight complaint about recently, the music is so bad. I understand that everyone has different tastes, but the whole ambience of the restaurant is supposed to be all 70's and groovy, with the decor, etc. It's literally called MELLOW mushrooms. But recently, the music has just been trashy, like 2000's sports bar vibes. Anyways, take these criticisms lightly because again it's just been the last two times, so maybe every other day the experience is completely different, these are just my observations. read more

When I first thought of Mellow Mushroom I thought it would be the Cheba Hut of pizza. Unfortunately, I did not feel the same vibes. This was also on a Sunday night so I expected a little more honestly. We tried pretzel bites with beer cheese, pesto garlic cheese bread, and cosmic karma pizza. True rating: 3/5 The beer cheese was eh. The garlic bread was good! The cosmic pizza was good but needed to be cooked a little longer as the bottom of the crust was soft and not crispy. You gotta have that crisp!! I liked their menu design but I was expecting that same vibe throughout the entire restaurant. We had good customer service but being my first time there I expected a little more. It also took a little long for our food to arrive and to receive our bill. We had to walk up to the counter to pay. read more

The most outstanding part about Mellow Mushroom was the great service. A group of friends and I went here for happy hour, and was unfamiliar with some of the drinks - Mello Mushroom carries a huge list of beers. The waiter made some awesome recommendations, and let us sample drinks. He seemed to really enjoy working at the restaurant, which made all of us happy. I had the grasshopper cider - it had a very unique taste to it, and was pretty strong. I liked it a lot. By the way, if you go during happy hour, it's half off of the drinks. The restaurant was clean and had a relaxed atmosphere. Great staff, great drinks, and great atmosphere - highly recommended. read more

Didn't even get a chance to experience the food because the service was absolutely Racist and TERRIBLE! We were sat by the bar, between two other tables. The restaurant was almost empty. The bartender was our server and instead of bringing us drinks or greeting us properly. He sat and gave a free throw drink tasting to friends at the bar. He then came and took out order. After 50 mins in the restaurant we still had no food in that time .. He talked to our table 2 times to drop water and to take order. But was very active at the tables around us, ensure they have food and great service. Another couple walked in after us and we're immediately served and brought beers. As the ONLY black people in the restaurant i feel this was extremely racially motivated and disrespectful. After an hour, no food and poor service we just decided to leave. read more
