It's been a while since I've been to mellow mushroom. I met my long time, friend there for a little lunch date. I love the pizza crust here! It's definitely the best around. It was decent. It's been a few years since we've been to a Mellow Mushroom and this Friday night was our first Texas Mellow Mushroom. We ordered draft beers, a small Greek salad and a small Holy Shitake Pizza plus Sausage Our server, Cara was pleasant and helpful. She took our drink orders right away. The beers were cold and tasty. I while later, we ordered our food. - Small Greek Salad: it was just okay. Not special - Holy Shitake Pizza plus Sausage: I really like it. My wife thought the bottom crust at the outer edge was a bit burnt on 2 of the 4 slices. It was darker for sure but I was good with it. All in all, a good meal with good service. My husband and I went for a late lunch on a week day (130ish) and the place was empty - like zero other customers. We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted. We got the pretzels as an appetizer and enjoyed them and had 3 to take home that were reheated and enjoyed later. For pizza we got the Veg Out and added pepperoni. When we arrived there was a large spill on the floor and the waitress told us to "be careful ." Throughout our meal no one came to clean it up. The only waitress eventually brought out rags to clean up the water and half cleaned up the spill then took the rags to the side of the kitchen but did not wash her hands n brought rags back and placed them on top of a table. The spill is a liability issue and the waitress not washing hands is a health risk. We have been coming to this location many years and seeing this type of things is very disappointing. This was my first time at this particular Mellow Mushroom; we used to go to the one in Southlake when it was still there. I like the theming a bit more at this location than I did at the southlake one ... though I do miss the bus with the table in it. Staff was on top of everything and the food came out in a reasonable time. Our pizza was on the crispier side and didn't taste how we had remembered it being but not bad. This Mellow is Mellow Mushroom #4 on my quest to go to all the Mellow Mushrooms-- and also the first I've been to outside the state of Georgia. I've got to say, I think Texas has lost the sauce on what it means to be a Mellow. Mellow Mushrooms should be ECLECTIC, ENERGETIC, and UNIQUE. Each needs to have at least one decor item that wasn't at other another Mellow, and this one was tragically unoriginal. The interior is basically just an open dining room + a lava lamp chandelier, so -1 star for not meeting Mellow decor standards. Food was amazing as always though. Pizza is as phenomenal as all other Mellows, and the pretzel bites were the best little dough balls in the Metroplex. However, I had to -1 more star because our server wasn't matching the Mellow energy. Mellow normally has a great habit of hiring eager-to-please high schoolers and happy ex-felons, but our server was an unhappy middle-aged women. Not the personality that I like to see in my Mellows. My husband and I have been to Mellow Mushroom for my years, in multiple locations. This location was very busy when we came on a Saturday night. The service was a little slow because of this. We were sat on the patio and ordered an appetizer. I think it was garlic knots maybe. They were good and plenty for our table to share. It is said to always give a place a second change; well this was the third. We were welcomed cordially and seated promptly. The previous times, as well as this, friends at the table were not pizza eaters and wanted to order one of the burgers on the menu. After about 15 minutes (on this last visit) history repeated itself and no burgers (well they actually had enough for one of the two ordered.) Unreal, the most popular ordered food and they are out. Once we resolved who was going to get the burger, the other ordered a philly cheesesteak calzone. Yep, you guessed it, they were out of that as well. I am not sure why this occurs but it did. Service was good but slow and refills slow in coming as well. The bills were not as slow. Speaking of the bill, there was a FOOD SERVICE TAX added to each of the bills. No one in my party had ever heard of that. We did not make a fuss, paid it, did some research and the only thing we were able to determine was it was because we asked for forks/knives with the pizza. The additional charge was known, no one described it and can not determine how it is calculated etc. Also, this place has really been a major disappointment.
