Once again I get sabotaged. Family seems to have no issues. Got another meatball grinder and mentioned at counter how the cheese sticks to the paper and completely stays on paper. They opened when I was paying and saw exactly what I explained.. they put in a pizza box and got home and cheese was stuck to inside of box. The other issue is how they cut the grinder roll. You CANNOT hold it properly to eat. They cut it like the subway used to do when they first opened - cut from the top. This is ridiculous. Cut roll from the side, add the cheese and sauce and then cut meatballs and place in roll. Problem solved. I cannot order from here anymore until this quality control is improved. I would encourage Josephine whom I spoke with to order some of her own products anonymously and see first hand what their customers are getting. It's too bad because the meatballs and sauce are very good. My wife order a small sausage and onion and got a small sausage and pepper. I double checked my receipt and it had sausage and onion Lastly the pricing for a small pizza and 2 items and large meatball was $45.... That is absolutely crazy!!!! I write this not for punitive reasons but to make the owners aware, AGAIN of several quality issues and challenges. I do my best to continue to support you but each time there is an issue. Food is great and reminds me of Franklin Ave where I grew up!!

Gluten Free Italian Combo Wrap
Allie K.

My husband mentioned he had some awesome subs catered for work, and a few months later, we've been to Melilli's a couple of times! Service is always prompt and friendly. We've tried multiple menu items. For gluten free options, pizzas are available, and all grinders can be made on gluten free wraps. At first, this was a turn off for me, but it was actually quite delicious. We've tried the Italian Combo and the Melilli Steak this way. They're great at allergen modifications, and there's plenty of delicious food to eat, no matter what you order. Other menu hits as mentioned by the friends we brought along the last visit include the chicken parm and the chicken fingers- high praise from a little one! We'll definitely continue to return to Melilli's.

Mushroom Ricotta and Mozzarella Calzone

Okay y'all I FINALLY tried this place after a year of telling myself I'd circle back and OMG I'm so glad I did. This is probably the best calzone I've had to date since moving to this great state of pizza and it's all about the dough. The flavor and fluffiness of their crust is everything. The sauce is amazing, lots of flavor, and the cheese isn't overwhelming. I'm not a fan of the enormous amounts of ricotta in my calzones so for me the balance was perfect! And I swear even the mushrooms had flavor. And they weren't cut too thick like a lot of places do, so it was just the cherry on top. It's also as big as my thigh which is insane LOL The team was friendly and the atmosphere inside definitely feels like a small town bakery, which I love. I will absolutely be back and highly recommend y'all treat yo'selves on the way home on one of these frigid windy days!

I don't know what the negative reviews are about. My husband and I have been going to Melilli's since they were in Cromwell. We have never had a bad meal or heard an untoward word from anyone. After living in two cities with very strong pizza opinions, NYC and Chicago, I can honestly say, Melilli's pizza is my favorite pizza on the east coast outside of New York. Pepe's is great, but it's a different experience. Tonight we had an antipasto salad with a large pizza in the dining room. It was way too much food, but we planned to have leftovers for the Patriots game at home. Service was very welcoming and accommodating. When people called in, I could hear them immediately tell the callers there was a 40 minute or an hour wait for pizza. They make everything to order, even the salads. They make their own crust and it's a crispy on the bottom, very well developed crust. I have found that reviews for pizza places are very polarizing. EVERYONE thinks their favorite kind of pizza is the perfect pizza. If it's not your bag, move on to another place. There's a million of them out there. But if you want to sit back and have a nice meal cooked by a family who are bringing their Italian traditions to your plate, then come here.

Would you pay $40 for this?

The breakfast I had took twice as long to cook and yet still tasted somewhat cold. The food overall was just okay.

Food is mediocre at best. Service not as good. Staff is generally indifferent or even snarky if you ask to may questions.

The sandwich was very good, crispy and flavorful. The bacon pizza was just crispy enough with flavorful sauce. The garlic knots were made fresh with a very nice aromatic herbal garlic infusion. The cannolis were chocolate dipped and share size **we did have to go back because the pizza was made without bacon and we were over charged for the garlic knots. Brought it to the owners attention but they corrected it right away. He also added the cannolis for the inconvenience. Mistake fixed right away and will definitely come back again for just that reason

There is no parking lot, but street parking in this area isn't too bad. It is a take out place so the inside is set up like a deli. Everything in the case from brownies and cannolis to pasta salad and squid salad is homemade. They offer a large variety of sandwiches, pizza, and more, but I knew I had to get. Teflon Don because of how delicious it looked in the pictures on Yelp. The Teflon Don did NOT disappoint. I got a 12" grinder, and it was massive. It was stuffed with meat and satiated my sandwich craving. I also tried apricot nectar for the first time, and I'm hooked. The workers were also super sweet and even let my friend go into their kitchen and see the fresh sauce they had on the stove for his chicken parm! Great people.

We are not often in Middletown, but we will definitely be back. This is a great place to stop, and I 10000% recommend it. Of course, I had the gluten-free veggie pizza, and I added pineapple because I am a pineapple-on-pizza person. Sue me, I am an islander. My partner had the shrimp pizza, not gluten-free, and ordered a medium. The size was honestly obscene for a medium. He kept asking to drive back down there every day after because he wanted it again. Definitely returning.

Our neighbor raves about Mondo, so we thought it was high time we paid a visit…read more Mondo is fairly easy to find; our only error was accidentally pulling into the wrong parking lot. They do offer a free lot in the back, but judging by all the cars, Mondo is very popular on a Friday evening. Sure enough, there was a big line of people picking up orders, but we walked right in and were seated immediately. We started off with a beet salad, which was surprisingly delicious, combining candied walnuts and sweet orange and green apple slices with salty feta and tangy balsamic over a mountain of mixed greens. We then moved on to paninis, generous portions of meat and toppings on freshly baked, crispy bread. One of us chose more mixed greens tossed with dressing while the other chose crunchy French fries. We also ordered a third panini to go, the Mondo combo. We asked for fries; the kitchen accidentally gave us a salad. Our server, Heather N., saved the day by noticing the error and giving us both side orders. Mondo is family friendly, and there were plenty of children during our visit. As such, the volume was a tad loud and boisterous, but nothing obnoxious that would prevent us from returning.

If you prominently post a sign in your restaurant that says "This isn't Burger King. You don't get…read moreit your way. You take it my way or you don't get the damn thing", you better be freaking phenomenal at what you do. Because you're announcing to the world that you don't really care about providing good service. Yeah. Yeah. It's meant to be a joke. But really, it's not. The person who would post that sign, really thinks they know better than you do. I basically get a slice of pizza from any restaurant I haven't been to that has a Slices sign. I was in the plaza for Giulia's Pizza and saw that slice sign. So I went in. I am only evaluating Giulia's based upon their Slice Selection and my slice of pepperoni. People who order a whole pizza may have a completely different experience. I have recently been to 4 other places that also feature pizza slices in the Newington, Berlin and Rocky Hill area and those visits establish a baseline for this review. Of the five places, Giulia's has the fewest choices. Cheese. Pepperoni. Veggie. In terms of display, Giulia's displayed the slices in the least appealing way. They were just kind of sitting there. No heated case. The cheese pizza seemed the most recently cooked, but the Veggie and Pepperoni had been sitting for a while. The tops were solid and the crust looked thicker than I would expect for a non-Greek Style pizza. I decided to try the pepperoni. It was brought to me more quickly than I would have expected after I ordered it. Not surprisingly, it was undercooked. It was OK, but the cheese was a bit of a mess texture-wise. The sauce didn't pop for me. The pepperoni could have been cooked more. The crust was chewy in a way that I didn't particularly enjoy. Of the places where I have recently had a slice, this was my least favorite. I've seen and heard this Burger King saying before. I don't think a business does itself any favors when it posts a sign like that. It's hard to root for the person who posts that sign. But you can get away with it . . . if you're great. At least with respect to the slice part of Giulia's business, Giulia's is not great. Two Stars
