We ate here our first night and thought, "Wow, food here is amazing and so affordable!". How wrong we we're as we tried several other places that offered low quality food and service at prices suited to much higher quality and service. We have returned and are happy again. Service is great meaning they treat you as valued guests going above and beyond. The food quality is excellent for the price. We had steak and while they were a bit chewy they were nonetheless delicious and we'll cooked, a solid score of 8 out of 10. The goat cheese salad is an 11 out of 10 and wine is abundant at 3 Euro for a generous cup. This is on a side street just down from 3 Gats and we highly recommend it. Much thanks to the restaurant to accommodating our party of 10 people last night. The food was wonderful, and we started the dinner with very friendly and attending wait staff. However, as the rest of our dinner party arrived, we got a different waitress for the rest of the evening. Our new waitress soured an otherwise lovely dinner. Since service plays a very large role in the dinner experience, I cannot give more than 3 starts at a restaurant that continues to allow bad service. She was not attentive, and she did not bring me a plate for the tapas (after she gave one to everyone else) nor did she bring me a steak knife for the brisket. We were made to feel that we were an inconvenience to her. At the end of the dinner, she practically threw the check at one of our diners. And on top of the service charge, where was another charge that was not explained to us. read more

Visiting Barcelona in Sept 19 we came across this fabulous restaurant The steak was cooked to perfection the staff were terrific and the price was very reasonable. We found this little gem by following our noses! Having just arrived in Barcelona, we set off on a leisurely walk in el Barri Gotic. We quickly came across the smell of meat "a la brasa" (ember) and we knew that was our lunch destination. So, we followed our noses and they led us to Melic del Gotic. Once my husband saw the size of the steaks they were putting on the grill, I knew we found his heaven. It seemed the place had just opened for lunch. The owner/manager was very attentive and gave us a great welcome to Barcelona. We started off with beer, cured ham, chorizo and pan con tomate (my new favorite). He personally showed us how to prepare it and we now make it at home almost every day. We then had their biggest steak and the pineapple & chicken skewers, with a side of potatoes. For dessert, crema catalan, what else? Everything was cooked to perfection and the chef himself showed my husband "his steak" just before putting it on the grill. Drinks: the bottled water was fantastic and so was the red sparkling sangria. 7 Stars Food: I tasted gas in the burger beef from the grill. Then sent it back to get med well thinking it might taste better. No. No. No. pure gas. I was so hungry I ate half of it cooked at med rare but it had Gouda, Brie and mozzarella so I couldn't tell where the gassiness/smokiness was coming from because of my impatience. One star. Flank steak was ok on the more med - med well part of it...the med rare part was difficult to eat, had a bad taste - 2 Star On another note, the corn was probably the best corn I've ever had and would give it 7stars, the artichoke was tasty, and the tortellini with jamón was 4 star with plenty of Parmesan cheese and a fairly creamy sauce, but we took out the ham (each individual price). Not coming back. Maybe for the corn. Save me a piece of that corn for later. :) adios ps there's plenty flying fruit flies. read more

First of all, this was with out a doubt some of the best service we received in Barcelona. The food was top notch and the atmosphere was truly unique so a 'WIN' across the board. We had the fixed menu with salad, octopus, and desert. The salad had avocado and three types of cheeses, each of them special in their own little way. ;) The octopus was cooked with peppers and spices, reminiscent of a Cajun dish actually. I'm originally from NOLA so I was very happy with the spice level. Perfect. The menu came with wine, desert and both were delish. I highly recommend this spot if you are looking for a nice, affordable place to eat and enjoy yourself in Barri Gotic. read more

Warm and efficient service, nice wine, and most importantly, truly amazing food. The eating experience I'd describe as INTENSE! Best: the ham, very simple but very high quality, every bite had a creamy quality that just melts in your mouth. The mushroom garnish, smoked and salted to perfection. The catalonia toast, rubbed with fresh garlic and tomato, goes with everything. The cream brûlée, was gone in two seconds. The semi best: assorted grilled meat, beef, sausage, chicken. Can't go wrong with a 3 course meal that includes wine, beer or a bottle of water for 12 Euros. The portions were decent sized, delicious and very filling! The service was good and they were very quick. As soon as I ordered, the food came out hot and tasted very fresh. Would definitely recommend this place and would definitely go back if I visit Barcelona again! read more

Staff seem very impatient at every request/questions, service was very bare minimum. I've only ordered from the set lunch menu options (paella, catalan sausage, greek yogurt, coke) but turned out to be a completely waste of stomach space in a place like Barcelona. Price was reasonable, but really, don't waste your stomach to eat at a place that's not good. There are better options. read more

Been here before, 3 yeas ago, on the recommendation of a friend who did his studies abroad here for a semester. Came back again on a Tuesday this November and it's still outstanding. Tucked away in an alley in the gothic quarter, this spot still manages to pack it in every night. Great prices allow for you to sample a lot of bites and share between friends. The staff is incredibly accommodating. There was only one table available when we entered and we didn't love the location, but knew we wanted to stay. Once we were seated and ordered the waitress offered to move us to a table where guests had just left. Incredibly nice, but we were settled in! The waitress offered to show us how to make the Catalan tomato bread that we love! Great wine prices starting around 10€ a bottle. Great food, great prices, friendly staff, pretty outstanding. I got the picaya cut because it was lean. The cut was amazing, soft, flavorful and just as I wanted. I got the seasoned fries with it, they had an interesting flavor. I think the fries were seasoned with powdered cumin so if you find the flavor too strong, don't get them seasoned. The place has a cool old style look to it with arches and a rustic kind of feel. It was pretty casual in there and I went around 4 so it wasn't annoyingly busy. read more

We had a very early dinner by Spanish culture...6pm. There was one other table in this intimate, all stone restaurant. But the wait staff doted on us the whole time. The food was amazing for the price! The moment we sat down, a plate of shaved cheese was on the table. For an appetizer, we started with Catalan bread. The server prepared it at the table, teaching us how to do it ourselves. Main dishes were served quickly and were great. Ordered the absolutely cheapest bottle of house red on the wine list and they acted like we ordered the most expensive. Treated us very well! Can't wait to go back!!!! read more

We were disrespected as tourists. We were ignored for 20 minutes while locals came in and were attended too. The food was terrible tourist food - hard flavorless chorizo, cold mushrooms, and expensive. This was the worst place that we ate at in Barcelona! read more

Had a really nice meal here. The tomato bread was the best we experienced in Barcelona, particularly because it was assembled at the table and the waiter encouraged us to make the second batch ourselves (great fun and we did a pretty good job) We enjoyed watching the chef in the kitchen cook our entire meal over the open grill. Everything, especially the steaks,was well cooked and very tasty, the draft beer was fresh and smooth and the house wine very acceptable. GO HERE!!! It was excellent in every way! Good, service, price. Perfect!! We started out having to wait for about 30 minutes but it was a Saturday evening at 8pm so that was our fault. But the other people ahead of us said it was worth the wait, it was their second time there on their trip! When we got seated we didn't get any starters(but the bread and tomato looked amazing). I ordered the chicken burger, corn and salsa Bravas. My boyfriend ordered rump steak, potatoes and aioli. We both agreed that it was the best new in Barcelona. The salsa of mine was made perfectly, the chicken was rich and juicy and grilled on a stove that you can view from your table. By boyfriend said his steak was beautifully cooked rare, and if he had gotten this back home in the US, the size and quality would have been $50(it was only 10€!!!). It was perfectly filling and wonderful. The atmosphere was awesome, original old building and well decorated and organized. And the service is the best we've had all over Europe. They truly care about their customers! We had an amazing evening here for our last night. If there even are any bad reviews for this place, IGNORE THEM. They had a one in a million chance mistake which won't happen to you. Every person here left happy, and it was the busiest night of the week. read more

Went in may 2015 after seeing those nice pictures and reviews on yelp, even if the restaurant was empty when we got there. First off, tomatoes con mozzarella di bufala. It had absolutely nothing to do with the very nice pictures on yelp. The mozzarella was this kind of very dry and hard matter used strickly for lasagne usually, not to eat directly like that, covered in olive oil and lyophilized herbs to hide it. Then, at 10€ the bottle I wasn't expecting a great wine, but this one was pure vinegar, no jokes . We had to change it for a 16€ one, less disgusting but we still had to trash it down the sink when we got home. Then they give you 2 slices of bread that the waitress proudly rubs with raw garlic and tomatoes, covers with olive oil and expects you to eat like that, as if it was typical snack. Usually the bread with the garlic are toasted together so that you don't eat raw garlic, raw garlic being very spicy and barely digestable. Not there. Then the entrecotte, (I really wish I took pictures) , like the rest, very disappointing, hard chewy with very few actual meat. The sides (that you pay separately) were mushrooms in their bath of olive oil and a baked potato sliced in two (covered in olive oil as well of course). At the end we paid 78$ for 2 without any desserts. I wouldn't have written this review if me and my girlfriend didn't feel so sick this morning with pretty bad stomach ache both of us, the raw garlic? The disgusting wine? The fact that everything is covered with olive oil? Who knows. My guess is that this restaurant was very good in 2013, but now it's just relying on its reputation to rip tourists off. This place is a disgrace to this beautiful city, and a shame to spanish cuisine and culture. Simply don't go there... read more
